Why can't anything be done nowadays in a timely manner?! Especially in this case. Utility company KNEW two people thought they were trapped inside a home because of the threat of electrocution, and without power, and did absolutely nothing about it! What was more important? I've seen some of these city employees out "working ". It's like how many does it take to unscrew a light bulb with everybody standing around getting paid. I understand employees were busy with calls and cleaning up the streets, but this matter should have been put at the top of the list. And who took all the calls from the family to the utility company? Customer service reps? Supervisors? And still not one put it out for dispatch. Will ANY employee get written up? Lose their job? Just like a 911 operator all the calls from people trapped and their family were just as urgent to take. Then still after 5 days it took Utility company an hour and a half to finally get there only AFTER the News called them about it. Do these big money making companies even care about lawsuits anymore? (if ever they did). This story could have been a lot worse. Being without a power source for 5 five days can have alll kind of repercussions. How can this utility company make it up to these two people about what happened? Time for this family to lawyer up for the extreme distress and being deprived their emotional well-being due to the company's negligence. When all along it could have been determined wires on the ground were communication cables, not live wires. Just glad everyone in this story is going to be ok.

If I went out my back door I would only be in my backyard. I have thick mature vegetation on all 3 sides of my property that is full of spiders and other native wildlife as well as 6 foot tall chain link fencing in the middle of all that. Basically, without a chainsaw or machete, heavy duty leather gloves, I can't even get to the fence, then I'd need to convince my neighbors to cut down their vegetation on their side of the fence as well to finish getting over it. That's a good 2+ week project for someone like me, a total novice who hired professionals to put in the fence and vegetation in the first place.
I can see how you'd be confused if all you're used to seeing is boring picket fences with shared gates in to your neighbor's yards though, but that's not how every house is set up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Now, a high voltage cable has enough juice to arc several feet (can't just step over it), and was across the access to her home. She did the only intelligent thing she could do, avoid it!
