I must say a lot of the albums mentioned, I had not even heard of. Sadly, Glass Hammer for some reason does not come out in the Netherlands, but i am one for the old school Glass Hammer. I did not like the last two albums a lot If i am correct none of my top 5 albums have been mentioned, though in my top 10, some have been mentioned. So, here is my top 10 for 2023. 1. Mostly Autumn, Studio 2 2. Unitopia, Seven Chambers 3. Pattern Seeking Animals, Spooky action at a Distance 4. Karnataka, Requiem for a Dwan 5. Forod Lad, Chapter Prologue - And then Came the Silence 6. Crown Lands, Fearless 7. K'Mono, Mind out of Mind 8. Ekyrian, Cuentos Junto a la Hoguera (classified as folk metal, but i think it fits in a prog. list) 9. Land of Chocolate, Your Finest Hour 10. Angra, Cycles of Pain Honorable mentions Too many to put them all here. So i will restrict it to 5 1. Fields, Contrasts: Urban Roar to Country Peace 2. Gong, Unending Ascending 3. Michael-John Anderson, Life of the Day Dreamer 4. Southern Empire, Another World 5. Jethro Tull, RöckFlöte Finally, i want to mention the latest Uriah Heep album, though it is not in my top 10 or honorable mentions here. That was probably the best album Uriah Heep has done in decades, as far as i am concerned.
1. Moon Safari - Himlabacken Vol. 2 2. Subsignal - A Poetry of Rain 3. Chronicles of Father Robin - The Songs & Tales of Airoea 4. Southern Empire - Another World
Moon Safari was a mind blower for me. First album of theirs I've heard, too. I was surprised to see that it didn't make it onto more of the panel's top 5s, other than Pete's.
As always an enjoyable episode of my favourite show on the channel. My top 5 consists of the albums I really listened to most. 1. LALU - The fish who wanted to be king 2. Trevor Rabin - Rio 3. Riverside - ID - Entity 4. SUBSIGNAL - A poetry of rain 5. FISH ON FRIDAY - 8mm My honorable mentions are very good to perfect albums. Oblivion Protocol - The fall of the shires. Moon Safari - Himlabacken 2 Haken - Fauna Chronicles of Father Robin - Book 1 Pattern Seeking Animals - Spooky action at a distance Jordsjo - Salighet Mayfire - Cloudscapes and silhouettes Mystery - Redemption Ice Age - Waves of loss and power Voyager - Fearless in love Steven Wilson - The harmony codex Earthside - Let the truth speak Peter Gabriel - i/o I am the Manic Whale - Bumper book of mystery stories Agusa - Prima materia Crown Lands - Fearless Nospun - Opus Lars Fredrik Froislle- Fire foretellinger HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I tend to stay in the shallow waters of prog but always watch and have discovered a lot of new,to me, prog through the show. Top 5 1 Oblivion Protocol - Fall of the shires 2 Mystery - Redemption 3 Pattern seeking animals- Spooky action at a distance 4 Ice Age - Waves of loss and power 5 Lalu - The fish who wanted to be king
My top prog albums; 1. Riverside - "I.D. Entity" 2. Neal Morse - "The Dreamer - Joseph: Part One" 3. Enslaved - "Heimdal" 4. The Flower Kings - "Look at You Now"
As what often happens when I sit down to listen to a full episode, I get distracted by a recommendation. Happy to hear the A7X love. I was into them earlier in their more traditional metal phase (think "City of Evil" / s.t. / etc.), and I heard they got proggier with "The Stage" but what I've heard of their new one so far is at least really interesting.
Thanks Pete and all the contributors for their time and effort to make this such a great experience. Lots of follow up listening for this EOY 2023 vid. I'm sure I speak for many in saying this channel helps this world to be a more enjoyable place. Tony from Australia.
Thank you George and Steven for introducing me to the Avenged Sevenfold album. You sold it to me and you are spot on … amazing album. That’s why it’s always important and beneficial to watch SOT.
I saw when one of guys mentioned Avenged Sevenfold’s new album the others gave him the side-eye. I just listened to it and it is insane but quite incredible. It is a must hear.

5. Seven Impale Summit 4. Hackberry Breathing Space 3. Zopp Dominion 2. T.A.P. Paradigms 1. Aurora Clara Dreams. Aurora Clara I thought was underwhelming on1st listen. But over time it sunk in, I love it.
1. Yes - Mirror to the Sky 2. Jethro Tull - Rokflote 3. The Flower Kings - Look At You Now 4. Eloy - Echoes From the Past 5. Voivod - Morgoth Tales 6. Halen - Fauna
great show. Thank you all for exposing me / us to so many new artists. Will be busy the next couple of weeks. I am surprised though that Riverside was not mentioned at all in the best of 2023. I thought Steven would have them listed for sure.

Oh WOW!!! I just listened to Ok Goodnight - The Fox And The Bird, I absolutely love it! I'm on my third listen and I have to own this! I only wish I heard this sooner! It looks like they have an EP and three singles to check out. I feel like I did when I heard about District 97! Fantastic album! Thanks guys!!!
Only one of these made my top 31 (District 97) because I haven't sat with them as long as the others on my main list. And to honest, I don't reach for Prog as much as I do with Hard Rock and Metal. as I said earlier, I wish I hears Ok Goodnight sooner! It would definitely in my list! 5. Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream 4. Arabs In Aspic - The Magic Of Sin 3. Glass Hammer - Arise 2. Uriah Heep - Clours And Chaos 1. District 97 - Stay For The Ending
Great stuff guys. Lots of new names to discover. I received the Steven Wilson curated box set "Intrigue" for Christmas. Enjoying it very much so far. Cheers to all on the panel.
Best panel on the channel and always a wonderful watch. I love how each of you bring something different to the table. You share common ground and interests, sure - but any one of you on any given night can throw some obscure treasures into the discussion. And for this episode, every single one of you do! These favorite album of the year episodes always feature surprises, and you get the impression that you guys are learning as much from each other as we are from you. Two funny moments: George's face when Ken calls the Crown Lands album "secretly the album Rush fans wish that Rush would make", and then the fact that no one mentioned wanting to give the new Avenged Sevenfold a listen (or second chance) when Steven had it on his list, but when it popped up on George's list, several of the guys said they wanted to give it a go. Haha! I agree with both of you - that one was an unexpected and very pleasant surprise for me this year.
Pete. I'm glad you finally heard Moon Safari...I've only heard the first 2 tracks but it's already my favourite of the year. I heard the first song on the album on UA-cam being played live at the Cruise to the Edge Tour years ago and I wanted to know where the song came from as it was still unreleased. Killer vocals, harmonies and songs and this is closer to classic Yes and Starcastle than it is to AOR.
As usual, great entertainment and great knowledge across this brilliant bunch. At least half a dozen albums to check out or revisit and I'm pretty damn comprehensive myself, nevertheless the SOT Prog Seat still brings it! Special shout out to Chris, surely has to be a permanent addition to the show moving forward, superb picks, eclectic taste and funny as hell, make sure that dude stays firmly in the 'seat' and the 'squares' as a regular. Thanks to Pete and all at SOT for another action packed, musically educational year with lots of laughs! Fave shows: In The Prog Seat, Hudson Valley Squares, Album Studies and Professor's Picks + tie ins with Scott!..all essential! Happy New Year, one and all from Syd (deepest darkest south east UK) 🖤 🧙🏼♂️ 🤘
1. Chronicles of Father Robin - Songs and Tales of Airoea 2. Comedy of Errors - Threnody for a Dead Queen 3. Lars Fredrik Froislie - Fire Fortellinger 4. Haken - Fauna 5. Tusmorke - Hestehoven. A very good year.
My favorites: 1. Alkaloid - Numen (progressive death metal) 2. Riverside - ID.Entity 3. Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream 4. Steven Wilson - The Harmony Codex 5. Scaphoid - Echoes of the Rift (instrumental prog-metal).
Pleasantly surprised to see two honorable mentions for Nuclear Power Trio. The guitar player is Greg Burgess from Allegaeon. Their latest album called Damnum is a great slice of technical progressive death metal.
Great number 5 pick Anthony Ferraro! Although Crown Lands is a lot further up the list for me, possibly numero uno for me, has been in heavy rotation since coming out. Just a great fun album. Mr cut and paste be damned, balls to him😉. With the usual suspects rounding out the rest.2) Chronicles of Father Robin 3)Jordsjö 4) Agusa 5)Moon Safari. What a great year for prog.HM's Arabs In Aspic, Ice Age and Monarch Trail.
Great lists! fantastic variety also. However, I'm surprised nobody mentioned the newTrevor Rabin album, Rio or Subsignal's newest, A Poetry Of Rain which were definitely standouts to me this year! My list would be: 5. Fish On Friday- 8MM 4. Trevor Rabin- Rio 3. Subsignal- Poetry Of Rain 2. Moon Safari- Himlabacken Vol 2. 1. Temic- Terror Management
Just got the new one from Kraan called Zoup - came out in late Nov. Wow! A MUST for this list! Every single track's a winner. I download music a la carte & don't buy every single track from any given album that often but I did with this one...Wonder how many panelists have heard it?🤷♂
I'm completely with Steven on that Avenged Sevenfold album. Never been able to get into AS. I like a few songs by the band but they've never truly been able to win me over. But this new album was fantastic. I definitely want to see them embrace this proggy sound.
@@ericporter344 happy new year to you too Eric. Ordered the Sherinian Phillips live album, after you recommended it a few months back, waiting for it to arrive.
So many good prog albums in 2023 to choose from. My top five favorite 2023 prog albums are: 5. La Boca Della Verita - Unconnected 4. HUGE year for new prog. There are some 'obvious' choices like Sherinian/Phillips, D'Virgilio/Morse/Jennings, Flower Kings, Neal Morse, Peter Gabriel, Riverside, Transatlantic & Yes. As usual I'll focus on the lesser-known bands. Some of my top albums of 2023: Dave Kerzner/Heart Land Mines Vol. 1 Djabe & Steve Hackett/Live In Györ Fish On Friday/8MM The Forty Days/Beyond The Air The Foundation/Mask Franck Carducci & The Fantastic Squad/The Answer Live Frost*/Island Live Lalu/The Fish Who Wanted To Be King (REALLY strong) Legacy Pilots/Helix Moon Safari/Himlabacken Vol. 2 Mystery/Redemption (great band) Paskinel/Maraude Automnale Pattern-Seeking Animals/Spooky Action At A Distance Rain/Radio Silence Randy George/Beyond Words The Samurai Of Prog/The Iron Mask (Feat. 1.) Peter Gabriel - i/o (OK, he’s not as prog as he used to be) 2.) Trevor Rabin - Rio 3.) Silent Skies - Dormant 4.) Riverside - ID.Entity 5.) Ice Age - Waves Of Power And Loss
Agree with you Louis exactly. Haken "Fauna" was the album from them for me that "clicked". My favorite of the year. Thank you all for the recommendations, I have LOTS of great '23 releases that I did not hear yet. Happy 2024 guys!
Here's my Top 10: 10. Pattern-Seeking Animals - Spooky Action at a Distance 9. Great Wide Nothing - Hymns for Hungry Spirits, Part II 8. Comedy of Errors - Threnody for a Dead Queen 7. Moon Safari - Himlabaken, Vol. 2 1. Peter Gabriel - i/o
George....great to see some Diacritic 97 love. I thought Stay for the Ending was excellent. Definitely top 3 for me. I just think they're unique....no one quite sounds like them. The female lead isn't the typical prog/rock lead. Just damn good!
Fantastic show guys and loved hearing everyone's favourite albums from 2023. My favourite albums from 2023 1. Karnataka: Requiem For A Dream 2. Mystery: Redemption 3. Steven Wilson: The Harmony Codex 4. Riverside: ID Entity 5. Kamelot: The Awakening

The Magic of Sin - Arabs in Aspic 7. i/o - Peter Gabriel 8. Assemblage - Weite 9. Fearless - Crown Lands 10. Through the Hourglass - Mondo Drag
Great episode gentlemen. Always appreciate your expertise and tastes. I’ve got about a dozen new albums to check out now. But Haken is the undisputed champion of the year for me. Fauna is in a class of its own.
1. Jordsjo - Salighet 2. Father Robin - Book I 3. DROTT - TROLL 4. Aurora Clara - Dreams 5. MOHINI DEY - s/n HM: Agusa - Prima Materia (I have them in my folk list, this is a folk record to my ears)
My top 5 in no particular order: Riverside - I.D. Entity, Neal Morse - Joseph the Dreamer pt.1, Avenged Sevenfold - Life is But a Dream, Steven Wilson - The Harmony Codex, Lars Frederik Froisley - Fire Fortelligner. Honorable mention - Peter Gabriel i/o, Crown Lands - Fearless, Monarch Trail - Four Sides. Special mention (not prog but still) - Sufjan Stevens - Javelin
Thanks for the recommendations, gentlemen. I’ve run across Casey Lee Williams on the RWBY soundtracks, but I never imagined I’d hear her mentioned here.
Always love watching in the prog seat 😁. If you guys want to know how to pronounce the Norwegian and Swedish words there is a thing called google translate 😅.
Lot of surprises and tons of albums I will have to check out. Will refrain from posting any picks. Leaving that for Pete's daily best of 2023. @GeorgeLamie, you always keep me guessing. -->> 1. Avenged Sevenfold - Life is But a Dream 😬
1. Lars Fredrik Frøislie - Fire Fortellinger 2. John Lönnmyr - Aftonland 3. Weite - Assemblage 4. Trees Speak - Mind Maze 5. Cobra Kraft - The Baptism of Pedro del Zorro
Phenomenal show gentlemen. Thanks for sharing these reviews and insights. Tons of great sounds out there. Going to check out Arabs in Aspic, Squeaky Feet. Love Agusa, thanks Ken and Pete your intro to this spacey band. My choices : Agusa- Prima Material, This Winter Machine- A tower of clocks, Big Big Train - Ingenious Devices, Karnataka-Requiem for a Dream, Hawkwind-Future Never Waits. Honorable mentions -Pineapple Thief - -how di we find our way ( box set),
Another one I just came across from September: Indrek Patte/In. I have a few tracks from their prior 3 albums but this one's a lot more appealing (to me). Not enough time with it yet to call it an album-of-the-year contender or anything like that but it's good, and the band's I think pretty much under the radar too...
Sea of Tranquility. Thank you. 🙂 I have the problem that I can't hear the name of the groups and the name of the album. It's completely black. Is it possible with a list? Happy New Year 😃 🎉
Great Year for Prog! 1a. Small Leaks Sink Ships - Low Tide 1b. Hotel of the Laughing Tree - Faraway Friends 3. East of the Wall - A Neutral Second 4. Giant Sky - Giant Sky II 5. Team Me - Return to the Riverside
i am with Steven aswell but the only difference is i am a fan of Avenged sevenfold and i love this album and i have seen the hate towards it aswell as the love. i am going to see them at next years Download festival so looking forward to that. Another one of Stevens picks i am a fan of is tesseract and again i am going to see them at rock city in Nottingham in February. Another great show guys

Loving the avant-garde metal on your list, something I wish we saw a lot more of on this channel since I think some of the guys on SoT could be into it. Blut aus Nord and Imperial Triumphant have been in heavy rotation for me this year with Disharmonium: Nahab being my #2 album of the year.
@@CloseToTheEdge83 Yeah the Reto-Prog they blown up on this channel and the few pedestrian metal releases mentioned aren't even really progressive... those albums have no EVOLUTION (safe choices)... If i want to listen to music that is stuck in the pass... I will go to the source/origins when it was unique... King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Frank Zappa, Jeff Beck, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Allan Holdsworth, Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Yes, Santana, Joni Mitchell, Comus, etc... (Stravinsky, Schoenberg, Bartok, etc)... None of these newer Retro-Prog bands come even close (do anything new/exciting) to the originals... Metal is the true EVOLUTION of Prog/Fusion... Their list (very few exceptions) are the prog equivalent of the common metal fans list where Modern Metallica, Slipknot, favor of the month... Tops them... It that works 4 them, Cool... but it bores me to death... The BAN album could be in my Top 5 (some days)... its great Imperial Triumphant' studio albums are usually on my Top 3 end of year list
@@kingIgor There are so few 21st century prog albums of the traditional style that have left a very strong impression on me, but I'm always eager to learn about more which is why I watch the channel. I just wish there was more discussion here about bands like black midi, Kayo Dot, Deathspell Omega, Thantifaxath, many of the artists in your list, etc...bands that to me have the spirit or energy of prog but express that in a very different way. I think multiple SoT guests and viewers like extreme metal too, so it's always a bummer to me that bands like this don't get discussed much here when I think they'd fit in perfectly on a channel like this.

@@kingIgor I know a good few of those, but not all. I'm a huge fan of Opeth, Dream Theater, Ad Nauseam, Artificial Brain, Oranssi Pazuzu's most recent album is already one of my favorite albums of all time. Thanks for the other recommendations!
I too love Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream...HOWEVER, due to this video as well as a few other year-end recap vids, I tried Nospun - Opus. Folks, if anyone reading is a fan of Dream Theater - Scenes From A Memory and you have not heard Nospun-Opus, stop everything you are doing and go listen...NOW! Where in the world did these guys come from, and how in the world did they come up with an over the top quality album like this? It is the coolest album I have heard in years. As a 20+ year allegiant fan of DT, all I can say is thank goodness there is room in the world for both DT and Nospun. Because hey Dream Theater, Nospun just wiped you off the proverbial stage with this Opus album. OK, so you have Portnoy back...no excuses now. Nospun just served four aces. Dream Theater, its your serve. What's your next move? I can't wait to see.
That Crown Lands album is good - a band that used to sound a lot like Led Zep (and Rush/Triumph) with some OK songs but has matured into a pretty good prog band with their newest album. Maybe not quite in my top picks group but definitely worth checking out. Last year's release Discover Crown Lands also contains a few interesting tracks
I've done enough rankings this month so here's a list of my favourite prog for 2023 haha... @helenhunt5414 IKR!!! If you haven't listened to others on here, you should check them out. Obsidian Tide and Sermon you may like a lot. There's a big chunk that's on the extreme side, so depending on how extreme you like your prog metal, you may find some gems.
@@Oldy-Sepulchre From your list I also listened to Haken, Riverside, TesseracT albums (all three on my honourable mentions list) and several days ago discovered Obsidian Tide! My top three albums were Life Is But A Dream by Avenged Sevenfold, 16 by Einar Solberg, Holocene by The Ocean!! If I haven't discovered Omnerod so late, just this December and had more listening time with them I would put The Amensal Rise in top three ( I wouldn't kick out anyone of my top three but just add Omnerod either to Einar or The Ocean; The Amensal Rise IS on my AOTY list, just not in top three but they deserve to be), because the more I listen to that brilliant album of theirs the more I adore it!!! In this comment section I haven't seen The Amensal Rise on anyone's list besides yours and it's a pity as people are missing out on such an epic record!! I'll check out those I don't know on your list, maybe will find something to my liking!! In turn let me recommend you a couple of 2023 releases that aren't on your list (though maybe you listened to them and just didn't like) - Jiminy by Bear Ghost (it's a fun album), The Harmony Codex by Steven Wilson (he is usually hit or miss for me, but there are some great tracks on this record of his, Staircase for instance), the album by Crosses is while not prog but still worth listening to and Terror Management Theory by Temic!!
@helenhunt5414 I love Steven Wilson but I planned on relistening to all of his albums and ranking them before listening to it. Funnily enough, I've never been able to get into Avenged Sevenfold, and I've really tried. Then this album came out, and there was such a mixed reaction and it made me curious. It seemed like many of the long time fans hated the new album, and a lot of the people who don't like them, really loved the album. So I listened to it and absolutely loved it. I was completely shocked. Hopefully they keep doing this kinda thing
@@Oldy-Sepulchre Yes, half of the fans practically bully them for this album, but a lot of people who previously didn't like them love the album!! 😅 I love all Avenged Sevenfold albums besides the first one and I'm not crazy about Hail To The King though it does have several good songs!! Their previous album, The Stage, might appeal to you though - that's when they chose a prog path and that album is brilliant from start to finish!! Also in case you don't know Leprous - listen to their discography, their album Bilateral is the greatest record ever created and I'll die in this hill!😅
Mine are: 1. The Songs & Tales of Airoea - The Chronicles of Father Robin 2. Prima Materia - Agusa 3. Fauna - Haken 4. Salighet - Jordsjo 5. Fore Foretellinger - Lars Fredrik Frøislie
I dabble in prog but love this show. One of my SOT favorites Thanks guys for again a great year of talking prog. This year my most played new albums were from Supersonic Revolution and the latest Black Rainbows (one of their best in my opinion). Both enormously fun straight rockers. Other bands who's releases were on regular rotation: Giobia Crown Lands Vandenberg Mondo Drag King Potenaz Abanamat Fuzz Sagrado Chronicles of Father Robin (both parts) Weite Hazeshuttle Travo Sammal (late 2022) Les Big Byrd Yawning Balch (both volumes) And there were many bands whose albums i failed to give more time like Spidergawd, Ananda Mida, Agusa, Prong, Speck, Jordsjo, The Spacelords, etc. Back catalogue i listened too most (often on my bike to work): Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Mastodon, Star One
My prog metal release of the year is Stormhaven - Blindsight. Do you want the awesome progressive death metal Opeth back, and not the average prog rock band that they've become? Then this release is for you I guarantee it.

In no particular order. #4: Chronicles of Father Robin - The Song & Tales of Airoea - Book 1
#5: Lalu - The Fish Who Wanted to Be King

I must say a lot of the albums mentioned, I had not even heard of. Sadly, Glass Hammer for some reason does not come out in the Netherlands, but i am one for the old school Glass Hammer. I did not like the last two albums a lot If i am correct none of my top 5 albums have been mentioned, though in my top 10, some have been mentioned.
So, here is my top 10 for 2023.
1. Mostly Autumn, Studio 2
2. Unitopia, Seven Chambers
3. Pattern Seeking Animals, Spooky action at a Distance
4. Karnataka, Requiem for a Dwan
5. Forod Lad, Chapter Prologue - And then Came the Silence
6. Crown Lands, Fearless
7. K'Mono, Mind out of Mind
8. Ekyrian, Cuentos Junto a la Hoguera (classified as folk metal, but i think it fits in a prog. list)
9. Land of Chocolate, Your Finest Hour
10. Angra, Cycles of Pain
Honorable mentions
Too many to put them all here. So i will restrict it to 5
1. Fields, Contrasts: Urban Roar to Country Peace
2. Gong, Unending Ascending
3. Michael-John Anderson, Life of the Day Dreamer
4. Southern Empire, Another World
5. Jethro Tull, RöckFlöte
Finally, i want to mention the latest Uriah Heep album, though it is not in my top 10 or honorable mentions here. That was probably the best album Uriah Heep has done in decades, as far as i am concerned.
1. Moon Safari - Himlabacken Vol. 2
2. Subsignal - A Poetry of Rain
3. Chronicles of Father Robin - The Songs & Tales of Airoea
4. Southern Empire - Another World
Moon Safari was a mind blower for me. First album of theirs I've heard, too. I was surprised to see that it didn't make it onto more of the panel's top 5s, other than Pete's.
@@soundsandvisionsHQ Agreed! I had heard their album Blomljud, but it didn't hit me like this one.

Good to see you Tony. Look for the 4Fusion Friday version of this on Jan. 5!

And to honest,
I don't reach for Prog as much as I do with Hard Rock and Metal. as I said earlier, I wish I hears Ok Goodnight sooner! It would definitely in my list!
5. Avenged Sevenfold - Life Is But A Dream
4. Arabs In Aspic - The Magic Of Sin
3. Glass Hammer - Arise
2. Uriah Heep - Clours And Chaos
Thanks Greg!

They would have made my list had I heard it, went right out and listened that night after doing the show, wow! Stunning musicians
Great number 5 pick Anthony Ferraro! Although Crown Lands is a lot further up the list for me, possibly numero uno for me, has been in heavy rotation since coming out. Just a great fun album. I'm completely with Steven on that Avenged Sevenfold album. Never been able to get into AS. I like a few songs by the band but they've never truly been able to win me over. But this new album was fantastic. I definitely want to see them embrace this proggy sound.

🙈 lol
😂
Lot of surprises and tons of albums I will have to check out. Will refrain from posting any picks.

Steven Reid: great pick in Avenged Sevenfold. I love much of there material, and I live this album!
geez i need to bring a note book lol
Squeaky Feet is an amazing new and completely unknown prog-rock band!!
Yes! Great band for sure
Another one I just came across from September: Indrek Patte/In. I have a few tracks from their prior 3 albums but this one's a lot more appealing (to me). Not enough time with it yet to call it an album-of-the-year contender or anything like that but it's good, and the band's I think pretty much under the radar too...
@@wolf1977 thx for recommendation!
Moon SAFARI is by far the best album of the year, it has 3 songs that are 10/10.
Perhaps there is so much great music from the Scandinavian countries because historically they are the happiest people in the world.
Sea of Tranquility.
Thank you. 🙂 I have the problem that I can't hear the name of the groups and the name of the album. It's completely black.
Is it possible with a list?
Happy New Year 😃 🎉
The selections should be posted in the comments, thanks for watching
@@ericporter344 Thank you. 🙂

Mystery is new to me. Very catchy and melodic. Love behind the mirror
Flight are on the German label Dying Victims…you will enter a world of traditional heavy metal 🎸

The BAN album could be in my Top 5 (some days)... its great
Imperial Triumphant' studio albums are usually on my Top 3 end of year list
@CloseToTheEdge83 Cool... Kayo Dot, Deathspell Omega...

Luis Asceta , Yes !
George is Nospun Opus available on CD I look around and did not find anything found digital. listen to one song and I am Exhausted.
Not yet, but very soon. Ken will have them
The Chronicles Of Father Robin - Songs & Tales Of Airoea Book 1
The best of 2023
Louis If you like DSOTMR you should check out the 2011 record Seeking Major Tom by William Shatner. It's very much the same idea.
Glad you're enjoying it.
I’m hoping Le Orme will release the new album by itself without disc 2 and 3.
Nova Cascade, for myself!
Chad Thanks , I just checked out some Gravity Fields which sounds pretty good !
5 Stick Men - Unmeda
4 Zopp - Dominion
3 Agusa - Prima Materia
2 Tu-Ner - T1-Contact Information
1 Frank Zappa -Overnite Sensation 50th
Kite parade retro was my aoty
I've done enough rankings this month so here's a list of my favourite prog for 2023 haha...
Horrendous - Ontological Mysterium
The Anchoret - It All Began With Loneliness
The Gorge - Mechanical Fiction
VoidCeremony - Threads Of Unknowing
Haken - Fauna
The Ocean - Holocene
Fleshvessel - Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed
Rannoch - Conflagrations
Riverside - ID.EntityUnfurl - Ascension
Baroness - Stone
Obsidian Tide - The Grand Crescendo
Omnerod - The Amensal Rise
Alkaloid - Numen
TesseracT - War Of Being
Enslaved - Heimdal
Nospūn - Opus
Ne Obliviscaris - Exul
Sermon - Of Golden Verse
Earthside - Let The Truth Speak
Finally a list containing Omnerod, The Ocean, Earthside, The Anchoret, Nospun albums!!🔥🔥🔥
I love all Avenged Sevenfold albums besides the first one and I'm not crazy about Hail To The King though it does have several good songs!! Their previous album, The Stage, might appeal to you though - that's when they chose a prog path and that album is brilliant from start to finish!!
Also in case you don't know Leprous - listen to their discography, their album Bilateral is the greatest record ever created and I'll die in this hill!😅
No worries Chris, STOMB is not even a french word ... no clue what it means ...
OK second time this band is mentioned and I can’t find them! Spelling? George Joe?? 😂
Jordsjo
Avenged Sevenfold got more attention than Moon Safari's superb album? Am I on the right channel?
Mine are:
1. The Songs & Tales of Airoea - The Chronicles of Father Robin
2. Prima Materia - Agusa
3. Fauna - Haken
4. Salighet - Jordsjo
5. Fore Foretellinger - Lars Fredrik Frøislie
Yeah!!!
I dabble in prog but love this show. One of my SOT favorites Thanks guys for again a great year of talking prog.
This year my most played new albums were from Supersonic Revolution and the latest Black Rainbows (one of their best in my opinion). Both enormously fun straight rockers.
Other bands who's releases were on regular rotation:
Giobia
Crown Lands
Vandenberg
Mondo Drag
King Potenaz
Abanamat
Fuzz Sagrado
Chronicles of Father Robin
(both parts)
Weite
Hazeshuttle
Travo
Sammal (late 2022)
Les Big Byrd
Yawning Balch (both volumes)
And there were many bands whose albums i failed to give more time like Spidergawd, Ananda Mida, Agusa, Prong, Speck, Jordsjo, The Spacelords, etc.
