Thank you people of Oosterbeek for taking into your arms my cousin Sgt Glider Pilot Arnie Phillips. He died here 25 September 1944. I visited in 2011. Such a beautiful place

How beautifully kept this cemetery is, the Dutch people never have forgotten the fallen who came to liberate them. God bless the fallen and those that remember them.

We will ever be grateful for what they sacrifice to liberate our country and ensure freedom in the western part of Europe till today! Thank God for them and may He comfort all mourning families from those who served and died, because of what is so precious: Freedom! 🌷 Love from Holland

The war needed to be ended and risks had to be taken to end it earlier than otherwise would have been. It was a gamble, and it didn't go off as hoped. C'est la guerre.

Went there two days ago. Just knowing I stood where so many died fighting for a better future.
That’s why I love the EU, it has prevented war since, it’s harmony and peace, never again, but the UK don’t see it like that

No we don’t see it like that. The freedoms that were being fought for by these lads in the cemetery are a different set of freedoms we seek today. If any of these lads laying in this cemetery we’re to come back today, what do you think they’d make of England today? They’d probably tell you they’re better off where they lay. The England of today is a shambles compared to the England they left behind.

MrTubbymarshall whos we? England is a shithole right now, terrible politics, not a great place to live, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t fight for a better future? We live in peace for the most part, most of Europe is united. We have avoided such a war since, we aren’t under Nazi rule. I don’t see your point

C’mon folks, this is not the place for a political slanging match. Regardless of your feelings on the EU, UK, Brexit etc surely we can all agree on at least on thing, that the people who lie in this cemetery need to be remembered and the great work the CWGC do to ensure that.
As for the rest, save it for another place, this is something we surely can agree on

@@andrewburke9390 I agree completely, but unfortunately to avoid such tragedies again, it must be that we also take into consideration, the current political stature of the world. We have a growing amount of nationalism, especially in the UK, and western european nations, this is what divides us. So much hate for each other for no reason, politicians such as nigel farage have led us to hate each other.

It is NATO that has preserved the peace and the UK is part of NATO
