    Can you (or do you) sell the extra fittings in a kit stand alone?
    I own a 4 stage, will likely upgrade it over time, and would love to have those permanent connection fittings.

      We do sell the fittings separately on our website if you need them. They're all listed on this page in the link below 🙂

    Hi Ryan why can you not plum the waist pipe to the mains in to your home thus cutting out waist water I am on a water metre here in the UK I get my water from a company ( spotlesswater) I would love toget a rodi system but it would be to expensive thanks love your video's keep up the good work 😀👍

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому +1

      Interesting thought. You may want to consult a plumber on that one as I'm unsure of how that would work from a functional standpoint. The main water supply line to homes is usually under pressure (somewhere in the 40-80 psi range). Given that the waste line isn't pressurized, it would be hard for the system to function without some sort of pressure release feature.

      For drinking water, you'll want to skip systems with the DI stage and go with an RO only system. We have a few different drinking water RO systems available, but the link below is by far our most popular one and will get the job done in a vast majority of cases.
      www.bulkreefsupply.com/brs-5-stage-drinking-water-ro-system-75gpd-bundle.html

  • @NinjaSushi2

    What is considered an acceptable amount of TDS coming out of the membrane and into the DI filter? I average 2-4 TDS. 4 at start after flushing, then it balances down to 2 TDS.
    Absolutely loving the 5 stage plus system!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому +1

      At peak efficiency, most RO membranes have a rejection rate of somewhere between 95-99%. That means if your source water has 100 TDS, the water leaving your RO membrane should be about 1-5 TDS. Then the DI resin should take that to zero.
      2 TDS out of the membrane into the DI is a good place to be.

    I bought a 4 stage and accidentally left in on a slow trickle while on a 3 day trip! Luckily I notice that with only 6 weeks of use the last filter was over 3/4 orange, so I ordered refills before I left! I decided to check the tds in my last 5 gallon jug I filled right before I left and it was about the same tds as my tap water! Super scary so I think I have been putting bad water in my tanks all a long! I called and spoke with Cody and he said not to trust my meter! Truthfully I am not sure that I trust these rodi units now! Headed to the lfs and check hers. Its always zero with that same meter so I bet it will be again! Whats up with that? I also have a huge batch of frags coming in today and wanted to do a fresh water change the night b4 arrival but that out because I idnt discover it until LFS was closed and my hubby was sick in bed and I was to overwhelmed to try myself after the crazy high readings! I am not starting my frags off with questionable water! I have frags in one tank not looking great and one just died so more then likely its from high tds water! I always checked it first but just tricked the water over the meter when I should have filled a test cup up first! I am going to buy an add on meter before I ever use it again! I sure hope like hell I get more then 6 weeks use with a 36 gallon and a 20! Oh I didi fill a 20 g frag tank which I am now worried about! I dont even see add on meters on website!

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      As a general rule of thumb, we usually tell reefers not to bother testing the TDS of the water once it leaves the RO system. 0 TDS can pull things out of the air and make it look like the water in your storage container is just as bad as your tap water. TDS doesn't tell us what is in the water. You could have 50 TDS water super high in copper, while another sample of 50 TDS water could be completely free of copper.
      If you have an in-line TDS meter on your RODI system, that is what you're best off using to monitor your product water. In line meters are (generally speaking) much more reliable than their hand-held counterparts.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому +2

      If you use the water saver configuration (two membranes) and have good pressure (or use a booster pump), you can get pretty close to 1.5 gallons waste to 1 gallon of good product water.

    Question. If my water is 300 TDS going in and 0 TDS going out, is the waste water 300 TDS? I thought of using the run off to fill my pool but I don't have a system yet to test it.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      Your waste water will have a higher TDS than your tab water as it's more concentrated in terms of contaminants. Probably not an issue for a pool, but we're by no means pool experts 😅

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      The BRS RODI systems are the only ones that we offer. That said, if you have to pick a different brand due to availability, just try to pick one with standard filter sizes. Not sure what it is in the UK, but we normally use canisters designed for 2.5" x 10" cartridges.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому +1

      If you're on city water, go with the 5 stage system. The two carbon blocks will be great for removing chlorine or chloramines, which are the two disinfectants commonly used.
      The great thing about these RODI systems is that you can always add on additional stages down the road if you see fit. They're super modular.

  • @Botzz28
    @Botzz28 2 роки тому

    Quick question. Jus changed the filters on my RODI unit. I turned it on and the lines just like started popping and exploding especially the waste line. . For some reason it seems like the flow is being restricted somehow. Any thoughts ? I can’t afford another RO system I’m screwed. All I did was change my sediment and carbon filters. The waste line seems like it’s going nuts idk what happened and when I turn it on I keep hearing a pop after a few seconds. 😩

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      Most likely just air being purged from the system. Let it run for a few minutes and that should eventually stop.

    If I have a softener on the house, which model would you recommend?

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      Water softeners won't have much impact on the system that we pick. It's more about your source water and if your city uses chlorine or chloramines. If they use chloramines (or if you just don't want to look into it any further), go with a 5 stage or larger system. These systems all have two carbon blocks, which will help with chloramine removal.

    I thought that the water saver was not series connected, I thought it took the waste water from the first membrane an fed that into the second membrane.
    Now Series connected tells me that the output of the first membrane feeds directly into the second which would not produce water faster and most likely slower.
    Well it is y'alls equipment so you know how it is connected and works.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому +3

      Don't worry, we haven't changed anything when it comes to running the membranes in series (meaning the second membrane is fed from the waste water of the first). Parallel would mean that both membranes are fed source water (faucet) separately and the waste lines were connected together to the drain.

    Wat do I need for my 8g reef

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  2 роки тому

      This is the system that we suggest for most reefers:
      www.bulkreefsupply.com/5-stage-premium-plus-75-gpd-ro-di-system-bulk-reef-supply-bundle.html
      The RODI system you go with is less about your aquarium and more about the type of water that you're starting with at the tap. If you're on city water, go with a system with at least two carbon blocks. This way, you'll be covered against the two common disinfectants used, which are chlorine and chloramines.
      From there, you just have to pick the membrane size. Given that you have a small reef, a single 75 GPD membrane will be more than sufficient. Since you'll be producing very little water each week, you won't have much waste water.

And I'm not sure what kind of filter, light, wavemaker, etc. Would work best for it. It's not a big tank, but it's my first and I don't have a big budget. How much waste?????

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  Рік тому

      The amount of waste water depends greatly on your water pressure and the source water temperature. Generally speaking, you should expect about a 3:1 waste to product ratio for single membrane systems and a 1.5:1 waste to product ratio for water saver systems. Your exact ratio may be better or worse if you have higher or lower water pressure, respectively.

    • @BRStv
      @BRStv  3 роки тому +3

      The 4 stage system will give you 0 TDS water, but not everything gets picked up on a TDS meter. For example, if you're on city water and your city uses chloramines as a disinfectant, you'll want a minimum of two membranes (5 stage or larger) to ensure that you don't end up with an ammonia issue in your freshly made RODI water.
