My biggest beef with this doorbell, is that it does not start recording right away. All I'm getting is the back of people as they walk away. I'm really not happy with it at all.
Awesome video. Do you know what happens if the Wifi cuts out? I know recordings can't be uploaded or synced with phone because that needs wifi and internet, but are the recordings still recorded to the SD card? - if so, how are they accessed later?
THANK YOU! You are the first person I've personally seen that showed motion detection zone(s?) can be set! Mine was delivered earlier today and I plan to get it installed and tested before the coupon code expires in case I need one for my other door.
How is this a year later? I returned mine due to so many bugs (I purchased right at launch) but with Ring’s price increase I’m looking at going back to the G4
I see that I can trigger an Apple TV display of the camera with a doorbell button push. Can it do the same on an iPhone or Watch? What about motion detection?
What I like (based on my understanding) is with hard wiring, it will run a constant video into the SD card (or NAS in the future) while still running in HomeKit Secure video. Secure video gives me the notification and clip and the local full video will give me the full story if anything happens.
I have confirmed that when the G4 is wired and there is an SD card installed in the chime that the “continuous” recording option is now available in the Aqara app. I have it set to continuous recording and then in the Home app I still have the events set to record to iCloud. This setup works great. The other benefit I found with wired vs battery is that the detection time is much faster when wired.
Pretty cool doorbell cam, i use mine with a electrick strike lock on a entry gate thats connected to a shelly relay. On face recognized the shelly relay opens the gate lock
A lot of users have reported where if the G4 disconnects from the chime every 24-48h if it is wired and you have to force restart the chime for it to reconnect again. Also the size of it is so huge. I believe they should have released same one with wired only option. I will go with circle view for now.
New doorbell. Have yet been able to activate steam & record to HKSV. I've tried batteries only, hard wire power only, and both. Firmware is current at 4.04. MacOS, iOS, AppleTVOS and homepod mini OS are all current. I've removed and reset the device a few times. I've added it with the app that launches HomeKit and just the Aqara app first and then HomeKit. I've tinkered with different detection settings. I do know HKSV works for me as I have an iCloud 2TB plan and can stream a Wyze camera with RSTP through Scrypted. But I'd rather drop the server running Scrypted, so I am hoping to get this setup working. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting beyond what I have have tried? Any setting I may have missed? I also sent a support request to Aqara.
This is my first smart door bell in HomeKit. Works great so far, but the face recognition seems to be a bit slow… the door bell needs to be pressed twice every time before my homepods are able to call out the name of the person pressing the door bell. I checked the Wi-Fi connection doorbell-chime-router, the connection strength is strong and I already upgraded to the latest 4.0.1 firmware. Is it just me or this is a common problem with this G4 doorbell thx.
Can an automation be created that triggers when the Aqara doorbell is run? Or is the only option to trigger an automation when the Aqara doorbell detects motion? If only the latter is possible, then can the field be limited so only someone directly in front of the doorbell camera is detected?
I can’t stand that when somebody rings a doorbell. It does not pop up on my iPad, even though I have Apple home and the Aqara app with all notifications on. The ring doorbell automatically opens the app when somebody rings the doorbell and does a full screen video, being a live feed, of whoever rang the door doorbell. Does anyone know a fix for this?????
Hi - I have recently bought the G4, set it up for HK. I can see in the HK app and on Apple TV, but when activation/pushing the doorbell, nothing pops up - do you have a solution for that? I've tried resetting, disconnetion and so on.
Great review! Mine arrives tomorrow and I'm very excited to play with my new toy. Hoping we have the ability to disable the included chime and only use HomePods.
4:27: Choose who can stream and view recordings: where can I found that part? its missing in your great video... I want to give my wife access, but not the kids.. Thanks a lot for your advise!
Installed mine yesterday, working well. But is it possible to expose the button press in HomeKit so that it can be used to trigger automations? Am I missing something? Seems bonkers that the only trigger is the sensor in what is in essence a large button!
While I initially had high hopes for the Aqara Doorbell G4, I've unfortunately experienced significant connectivity issues. Despite troubleshooting and support assistance, the problem persisted, leading me to switch to a more reliable alternative. Regrettably, I cannot recommend this product based on my experience.
Top review
Installed mine (only) in Apple Homekit, but very limited in settings and automations
Come on Apple !

Has that been fixed down the line ? Or nah?
@@alext5602 I don't believe so.... Mine still only starts recording people walking away.
How about motion tracking like on the ring ?
Can you answer a doorbell ring from the Apple Watch? Thanks
Awesome video. Do you know what happens if the Wifi cuts out? I know recordings can't be uploaded or synced with phone because that needs wifi and internet, but are the recordings still recorded to the SD card? - if so, how are they accessed later?
Yes, these will still be saved to the SD card and can be accessed through the Aqara app or by inserting the SD card into your computer!
THANK YOU! You are the first person I've personally seen that showed motion detection zone(s?) can be set!

Why would you.wanna use a security camera that takes 6 ordinary batteries 🤔🤔🤔🤨??????

@@MichaelSeverini thank you so much, I hope Aqara expands into regular cameras that do the same thing 👍👍
Have mine out for delivery today. Looking forward to replacing my doorbells (front and rear) with these. Great review.

This might be a silly question, but can you turn the camera 90 degrees to show where a package would be? Is there a setting to rotate the camera feed?
How do you set up iCloud facial recognition for use with the G4?
Thanks man!
May I ask , where do you live? It looks awesome

The batteries take up a lot of space. I dont mind the large size though.
@@AppleInsider Hi much respect from London UK, am not getting doorbell notifications on my Apple Watch Ultra, how do I go about it.
I’m on my 3rd CircleView. Love it but it disconnects and ends up failing to ever connect. Only 1 will be replaced under warranty
@@AppleInsiderWhat is Home Kit Secure Video? Also does this doorbell need wifi to work?

Is it possible to record only when the button is pressed?
Yes
How do you make your Aqara doorbell video feed pop up on yout tv like that 3:05 ?
You need an Apple TV device
As anyone found a door mount for this. I have renters that want to add them just I have no luck finding one

@@AppleInsider great news!
Hi Andrew. Thanks for this great video. Does this device pre records video like some of the Ring devices?

Go to the Home app > Home Settings > People > Then there is an option for cameras. Just choose what permissions each person has!
I can not connect the Smart Video Doorbell G4, to the internet, or install it in HomeKit
Hey wondering if this doorbell works with matter now?
Hi AppleInsider How are you you can record video form your iPhone 14 Pro Max or Pro
Can you flip the video? I think I have to mount it upside down because of the screw on the left side..
How/where can you use the discount code? Don’t see a place to apply one at Amazon.
Bro is slow

Can this connect to a wired Doorbell chime?
no it cant
I can get all the way to add to apple home and then it just doesn’t connect
Why dose no one show it working with google
Eufy has this for years dude . . . . has a chime, rechargabe battery that holds power for over 6 months and has IR for night use.
My name is Noureddine and I am so exited for you you record video and I love it for you

Installation is easy, but stealing it is also very easy. You need to add some cage around it to protect it from being stolen.
Lyla Gateway
So that’s great but how do I install it??😂

60% = 3/4.... maybe closer to 50% :)

change batteries? FUCK NO!!! wired is better... one less crap to worry about.
People call you by your middle name, Andrew?
Bruh why record in 24 fps, video is stuttering and unenjoyable to watch. It's not movie effect lmao
First🎉
This is not true, there is the Circle-view cam that supports home-kit video
Is it battery powered?
Yuk, is that Chinese?
