    We have logged long road trips in both the out-going etron 55 and the new Q8 eTron 55. Our bio-breaks generally take long enough that the car is almost done or done charging when we return to the car. The general population is not racing when on a road trip. In otherwords there is a charging speed where performing faster doesn't matter for most road-trippers.

    Anyone else find it interesting that Kris has never tested a BMW product. He continually ignores the IX which is an better vehicle than the Fat Etron/Q8 and easily a match for the EQE!

    I think these range test should be taken with a grain of salt. With my Volvo C40 I have seen 164Wh/km - 200 Wh/km during summer driving the same route of 66,5km. EV's are very sensitive to temperature and you have to drive the same route several times to establish a baseline of consumption. As a rule you drive most economical if outside temperature match the cabin temperature. That's where AC draw the least current from system.

      That’s true. Lots
      of factors affect
      the result. These are always mentioned. Ideally you would need a reference car that always follows the car that’s tested. Even then, the settings, wheels/tires, charging strategy etc. might not be optimal. I still think it’s still interesting to see how the cars perform. 🙂 And the genius thing about this test, is that Kris ranks the cars by charging time. Not total time.

    Although I am biased towards what Audi and BMW are doing with their interfaces, I feel Mercedes missed a chance to revamp their user interface with the EQ-series. It still feels like a mess, even though their cars might be excellent.

      MBUX easily beats the old fashioned Audi interface that hasn’t been updated in almost a decade.

      @@fmsantoscar The fact that you are pointing toward a 10-year-old interface at Audi clearly indicates you missed what I meant by my statement. I never said the old BMW/Audi interfaces were terrible/good/excellent, but they have worked on it in their latest cars (especially EV). I feel Mercedes could have done better based on the video above.

    Every time I watch one of these EV review videos it puts me off!! The range thing.. I don’t need that stress in my life.. and an hour to charge.. I mean it’s a joke, why would anyone buy one of these!!??? It’s def not cos they are cheaper.. they are more expensive and far worse… ok the planet thing.. but really…

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  2 місяці тому

      An hour? What the hell are you talking about? It took less than a fraction of that to charge on this 610km trip. If you are one of those super humans who never eat, never drink or never have to go to the toilet and insist on being able to drive for 8+ hours without stopping, well then this EV isn't for you. Then get en EQS or a Lucid, or get a diesel. But for the rest of us, this works perfectly fine. 97% of all new cars in Norway are fully electric. If it good enough for us, it's good enough for most.

    • @markedington7171
      @markedington7171 2 місяці тому

      You said it an hour and 5 mins to charge… it was on the screen… I drove 3 times a year to the alps from the uk and I stop for gas 2-3 times max 15-20 mins plus 45mins for train under channel (which has no charging on board) EVs are only useful for short journeys.. that’s why cars like the one you reviewed depreciate by 50% in first year…

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  2 місяці тому +1

      @@markedington7171 when did I say this? Time stamp please.... 97% of Norwegians seem to disagree... and they're isn't a single EV that depreciates close to 50% in the first, alone first three years here in Noway. London to Leogang in Austria is a little less than 1300km, so a little more than twice the length of this test. Base of the results of this test this car could easily drive from London to Leogang only stopping 20 minutes three times. But this isn't anywhere close the best EV for cross continental traveling. A Taycan RWD would easily do that trip with one stop charging for only 18 minutes.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  2 місяці тому +1

      at 12:25 I say "it's gonna take an hour and two minutes to go to 100%". Lesson 101 with EVs is that you never go to 100% on a fast charger while on route. You can start from home with 100%, but going above 80% in most EVs is VERY slow, hence the "one hour and two minutes". While going on a trip use only use 80% (or 90% in some EVs) down to 5% before stopping to charge. A Taycan will only take about 18 minutes to go from 10-80%. Going to 100% in this test is just wasting time. You charge enough to get to your destination. Once you get there, you connect to an AC charger and let the car charge over night, starting the next day with 100%. Like everything new, it takes some getting use to. But once you're used to it, it becomes second nature.
