the super mario wiki's naming conventions feel like the result of fans trying so hard to establish what it means for one source to be the "most canon" for a franchise that doesn't have a canon. recently the page about the piantas in mario sunshine that throw you was moved from "chuckster" to "pianta thrower" and then back to "chuckster", and the full discussion for why that happened is fascinating to read through
Not to mention how recently they have been using names from sources that have illegitimate names and errors (like the English Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia and Mario Portal).
one thing i always appreciate in a youtuber is when they can use the niche topics that im interested in or know about, and use them as a springboard for genuine philosophy and greater discussion. this video is second only to the works of the girls at transparency for me with how masterfully it utilizes such a seemingly unassuming topic.
I was not excepting this video to go this direction but honestly, good point. And ty for that point of "Listen i'm not trying to make a mountain of a mole hill here, it's ovbious just grandfathered in it tropes but like that's still where they are grandfathered from". great shit as always.
another great video from our pal indigo. i'd like to break consensus and name him pinball magikoopa (as a play on the name pinball wizard) and i'm going to edit the wiki page from my work computer so if they ban me i can edit it again from my home computer
This was in my recommended and I'm so glad it was. Pinball Land fascinates me. I really love this weird transitional 2002-2005 era of Mario games where spinoffs occasionally use stuff from the RPGs and they've modernised some designs but not everything, so some of the third-party developers come up with their own since it hasn't been standardised yet. That's potentially worth a deep dive in itself.
14:01 uhm ackshually 🤓 there's a handful of cases on the Mario Wiki where this isn't true, Nipper Dandelion and the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are examples of fan names becoming official, and interestingly enough the wiki accepted the former but mostly rejected the latter
Clicked on this video expecting something about how this character may or may not be Tutenkoopa and instead got a fascinating discussion about objectivity and what is and isn't an authoritative source and how the way in which we answer that question skews how we perceive art. Truly excellent. The brief interludes at the end and how they interact with the overall video and thesis might be my favorite part. That and the "PSA do not play ztd", true words there lmao I should play Mario Pinball Land...
2:39 I can take difficulty, but what I can’t take is a game in which losing is disencoursging. Here are some examples of what I mean; A game that is frustrating in a fun way is Doom. A game which once you care about winning starts to lose it’s fun value is Sea of Thieves.
My Egyptian Koopa hot take is that it makes sense to call him Tutankoopa. I don't care if he (they?) have a different design, mario characters and enemies get redesigned all the time. the fact is that there is a recurring theme in mario games of a koopa with a pharoah's hat being the boss of a desert level inside a pyramid, and i think putting all those together makes sense, especially if people won't be searching by different names because the pinball boss Doesn't Have One
how does the Japanese guide has less credibility than Nintendo power plus "pharaoh koopa" is just the best name for this character he is not too specific to be a specific historical pharaoh like king tut but he is clearly more than Egyptian so "pharaoh koopa" is just right

I can’t fucking believe it.
Right after this video came out, Egyptian Koopa returned in WarioWare Move It

And when the world needed him most, he returned.
Seriously the sheer excitement when I saw you've uploaded, thank you so much for your work!

i really liked your moving rorschach test at the end. i saw two horses converging to kiss each other on the lips
that was genuinely fascinating omg
woah shadok
I think they should call him "Luigi" I think it fits him

NEW INDIGO'S FINDINGS VIDEO WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

babe wake up new Indigo video!
This has got to be the best video I watched discussing a random boss from Mario Pinball Land.
This always happens. I randomly think about a youtuber that hasn’t posted in a while and then boom!
new vid yay
this is very interesting
Nothing better than watching a UA-camr do a deep dive into a super niche topic while you fried. Got my brain feelin like it’s being massaged
YOU HAVE RETURNED!
the ZTD jumpscare in this sent me. a great essay as always!
I'm so glad you're back. I need to introduce my wife to your channel, your stuff is unlike anything else being made right now

It's an English wiki. Official english sources will have more power than a translation of a Japanese guide book.
i guess but none of them are official is the point of the whole video sooooo@@calciums175
Cool video
His name is Kevin, his parents named after the main character of their favorite film, Home Alone 4
this is so fucking good
this video owns
BABE BABE!!!!!!
hi indigo kltv here
i miss ur content
THE PHARAOHS CURSE
also this video was really sick
tutan kamek
I must, whenever possible, point out that this boss's battle theme is a blatant plagiarization of the Final Fantasy 4 boss theme.
wtf did I just watch
Play ZTD. Also ignore the clip of it from this video. Purge it from your mind.
