You were told wrong, those are very useful on battles, one grenade stuns, the other makes the fish weak, also EX Grenades regardless of their type will remove the tar coat on the BT when you throw it at them, leaving them exposed to more damaging attacks.They are not only for ghost dispersal. :D
@@AndyMillz How do I refill the used hematic grenades?! I have 4 full blood bags and equiped one. When my hematic grenades (5) are all thrown, it doesn't refill it automatically. It doesn't use the blood bags nor does it take from Sam's blood. How do they refill?!
@@holamoco So I'm about 80% sure that Hematic grenades do not refill after you have used them. The blood bags are used to just supplement your blood bar while using the Hematic grenades. After you get to a certain point in the game you unlock grenade pouches and that leads me to believe that you must carry multiple grenades due to the fact that they don't refill.
@@donatotusi9140 You get it after the whole subplot with he junk collector. follow the main story missions and it should be right after the farm mission.
If you hold R2 you will overhand throw to get a direct hit instead of underhand throw. How are you going to showcase what they can do and not get a direct hit dude?

If i just made videos of me stealthing everything and not finding creative ways to help people then why make videos at all? If the game developer adds mechanics into the game then why not use said mechanics? The game clearly emphasizes numerous stealth mechanics but part of the fun for me is trying to find "exploits" to approach situations in ways other than most may choose. I just enjoy fighting the creatures, clearing the area, and collecting my fair share of Chiral Crystals. I think it's a testament to the game that it can be approached in more than one way.
@@AndyMillz I considered this as well as there are some spots on your normal routes that just get annoying to have to go through slowly. Getting aggrod and killing the big BT also stops the timefall in that area and I may have discovered a further short cut to this method. I got aggro unintentionally to wear I'm fighting the big BT. I happened to pull up my map an noticed I was in the middle of black circle with a red outline, so rather than try to fight the BT I scrambled to get out of the circle. When I did the BT disappeared and the timefall stopped, so just escaping the zone seems to possibly have the same effect as killing the BT.
I noticed that too, I do believe the BR respawn faster if you escape using that method tho... plus you miss out on all that sweet sweet Chiral crystal. Lol
I've got to the same conclusion that Ex grenades are not super valuable, however, there is one use that I found pretty interesting. You sometimes find multiple groups of BTs standing next to each other, the EX grenade can be used in those case to bring them all to one specific spot, allowing you to score a strike with one hematic grenade afterwards.

@@AndyMillz Well, it's definitely an argument but it depends how you see it. I could also say that because you have so many room for grenades you can spare just one for EX grenade when the opportunity shows up. That's my game plan personaly and I've never had any reason to regret it, at least so far but they're not like a must have or anything, your point of saying that you can just use hematic grenades and forget about EX all together makes complete sense as well. The same stands for Smoke grenades and stun bombs (or the smoke vs vog emitting decoy), btw. Once you get stun bombs, there is no more use for smoke grenades really (unless I'm missing something I don't see why you would distract your enemies for a few seconds if you can just stun them). I think the developpers though about the cost of those items to make the cut but since ressources aren't a problem (up to chapter 5, at the very least, since I haven't gone further because I love to take my sweet time) I think the idea is to always go for the most expensive option (kinda the opposite of real life when you think about it lol).
That’s very true, I think I’ll try to discuss that point in a future video. I tried to show off the useful ness of the decoys but they don’t really work against the tier 2 MULE enemy type. You’ll understand why when you get there but they don’t care for it lol
@@AndyMillz If you're talking about terrorists, I encountered some despite not being technically authorized to do so. I was exploring the map and found myself behind the mountains (I followed the alternative road at the Craftman), I saw a camp and was like "Okay, my entire equipment is dead because of timefall but I've beaten MULEs before, there's nothing to be worry about". Then tried to sneak in, got caught and realized they were no MULEs at all, they went all blasting at me and I died in a matter of seconds lol If those are the enemies you're refering to I haven't tried the decoy against them yet because my equipment were completely dead and I wasn't prepared for that anyway. But I'm intrigued, I'll try them and see what you mean by that.
GenLiu spoiler... they don’t give af about the decoys haha die hard man will explain their back story when you get there in the story and explain their motivations and backstory but maybe you can discover something I haven’t. The game is super complex and has no many interactions with things
I was expecting to receive tips and tricks for Death Stranding from someone who knew the function and uses of Ex. Grenades in Death Stranding, and could explain them in a straightforward & concise manner.
Tip: you can aim grenade directly into BT by holding right trigger and seeing when reticle becomes red, Holding right trigger also makes the trajectory of the grenade much more straight. When you are ready to throw, just release the trigger. If you want to cancel the throw, release the *left* trigger.

Played this game for 115 hours and literally never used these grenades once. Only used blood grenades and later the cord cutter as they're pretty much the most powerful weapons imo
you can aim grenades at them directly which can make them bleed allowing normal ammo to be effective on them. About halfway through the video the lion bt turned red because of the grenades, this area should be damagable with normal AR, Shotgun or handgun ammo.

You might already know this from 3 years ago, but supposedly Ex grenades can wash off the tar on bosses, and make them more susceptible to damage, from stuff like the assault rifle’s blood bullets.
Yeah forget about herding them... I just use the hemo grenades for everything. Kills em good. The umbilical slicer also comes in handy when they're right on top of you.
This was extremely helpful to me as a new player. I def need to use the EX nades now. I was completely reliant on hermetic before but now I realized that I should save them for an emergency and just use the EX stuff first. Thank you

I put the hematics on the bike and got grabbed while riding and dragged far far away, so I had to fight without them. Then I threw an EX at the whale, it got so stunned that I ran off easily, and the whole area lifted, no rain, no BTs...
In video it looks like o and 1 disperse them away from the grenade but 2 attracts them to the grenade so in theory you could throw the grenade somewhere to get a BT to go there? I came here because I tried the 0 and 1 on one of the large monster BT that appear if you get caight in the tar and couldn't really notice an effect on those.
I think the Ex2's are used to lure a BT to where ever you want them to be at, but you can only do it with one per grenade. Ex1's seem to be just a stronger version of Ex0's, as you also deduced. Thanks for the vid, I'd been wondering what these grenades were for, just never got around to test them. *...................* PS. Perhaps a silly idea, but I wonder if anybody's up for making a video testing them on everything, MULEs and what have ya. :)
Hey! I might be wrong, but when I hold down the R2 button when I'm about to throw a hematic grenade, it charges and appears to be doing more damage once it hits a BT.
Yeah the grenades do more dmg as you charge it. There is a meter to the left when you are holding it that will fill up. It tells you how much blood you are using in the charge.

I noticed they kind of just get out of the way. Where is the blood grenades actually kill them. And they're probably more effective when it's not raining. Same thing if you pee when the BT is around, it disperses.

They pack more punch so less to kill Chasers but they will quickly drain your blood pouches and your own blood. I might have to invest in more ex grenades. Only on ch 3 but I have been clearing out the first area getting 5 stars on all the outpost.

you should be able to see them on your backpack if you have them. If you have them equipped but you cant use them then maybe you spent your available load and have to drop or recycle the container for more grenades.
@@doubleg281 Yes other people have informed me. Ill try it next time but I rather just enrage the BTs and clear area so i never tried doing stuff in the stealth mode. Sorry I didnt get to show that off.
@@AndyMillz As long as you can see them, the UI does a good job of letting you know when you're aiming right at them. I was able to hit one with Grenade 0 and uh... the results were me getting discovered and I had to bolt out of the area lol. From my own anecdotal evidence and your video, I'd say using them to clear out or trick BTs is the go to way of using them. But hey, you never know, I'm certainly no expert yet. You may find something out by hitting them anyway :)
The uses for each are good and the benefits of EX really is that they are free to produce unlike hemetics that need fabricating. Just need someone to see if they can painstakingly push/pull BTs into a MULE camp :p

I'm kinda early in the game but so far I haven't found a reason to use anything but hematic grenades. Blood bags haven't been hard to get and even if I have to dip into my health it's pretty easy to stay out of a fight with them after you thing them out with the blood bag ones. Plus, I'm a caretaker for a living. I deal with plenty of poop and pee for a job. No need to incorporate it into my video games too.
Did you know you can pee blood due to dehydration? Just don't drink during multiple missions and he'll say his pee is a little red and then make a ex bomb from it
@@AndyMillz yeah I got it during the beginning of because I didn't care too much about the hydrating sam🤷♂️ I thought it was part of the story but I dont know. At the time I also dont have the power exo suit as well
I'm thinking you may get another cutscene, achievement or something like that if you complete the game without killing any BT's. Most likely that's what they're for but just a guess....I just pack my backpack with pouches and hematic grenade them to get chiral cyrstals

AndyMillz Yes it is a thing. I found out by accident when I came back from a trip and had no boots on for a while and then heartman was like it came from my blood in my pee or from my feet or something. It was probably from being beat up or falling down too many times and not replenishing health or anything then going to pee. Maybe... Cause I’ve noticed 0 is shower 1 is pee and 2 is poo so 1+ is probably also pee but pissing blood from being injured.
I just finished the whole game, didnt use EX nades at all. So useful but a bit too late for me hahaha Honestly if the BT's wanted to fight me, I let them drag me, free Chiral and less headache to be honest.
@@TheI465 yes... Triangle for shower, circle to pee, and square to 💩... You have to get to a certain point in the game, then every 2nd or 3rd time you go to the bathroom they make the EXO grenades

@@bigmacdoubleyouv i know this is an old comment but just in case someone else finds it useful, you have to be stood still when you scan for the BTs to show up, if you're moving when it's scanning they just won't appear.
@@cathyannis83 I figured that out a bit later. I was probably 2/3 through the game when I figured it out. And at the same time I realized you could shoot the BT ghosts with blood ammo. Would have made the first 2 thirds easier and more fun had I known that
@@brianchen3964 Yeah, after about 25 hours in the game, I find the enemies are not nearly as tough as they look. All are easy to take out once you get familiar with your options and controls.

You can throw hematic grenades then shoot regular rounds through the cloud @ BT's and it will deal damage to them.

I saw in your inventory custom hematic grenades whats the difference between the regular and custome grenades??
will Jones they can hold more blood than the standard grenades and you can get those from the craftsman
They pack more punch so less to kill Chasers but they will quickly drain your blood pouches and your own blood. I might have to invest in more ex grenades. Only on ch 3 but I have been clearing out the first area getting 5 stars on all the outpost.

How do you equip them it says I have them when I make them in the cutscenes but I can’t find them in my inventory?
you should be able to see them on your backpack if you have them. If you have them equipped but you cant use them then maybe you spent your available load and have to drop or recycle the container for more grenades.

I am not sure exactly but i do know that it is very hard to land a direct hit with the EX grenades. If you found out lmk!!!

@@AndyMillz As long as you can see them, the UI does a good job of letting you know when you're aiming right at them. I was able to hit one with Grenade 0 and uh... the results were me getting discovered and I had to bolt out of the area lol. From my own anecdotal evidence and your video, I'd say using them to clear out or trick BTs is the go to way of using them. But hey, you never know, I'm certainly no expert yet. You may find something out by hitting them anyway :)

The uses for each are good and the benefits of EX really is that they are free to produce unlike hemetics that need fabricating. Just need someone to see if they can painstakingly push/pull BTs into a MULE camp :p

If you put the grenade pouches on the back of your pack you dont have to waste space carrying them in the main rack area.

I just noticed there’s EX grenade number 1 for pee and EX Grenade number 2 for poop lol
I'm kinda early in the game but so far I haven't found a reason to use anything but hematic grenades. Blood bags haven't been hard to get and even if I have to dip into my health it's pretty easy to stay out of a fight with them after you thing them out with the blood bag ones.
Plus, I'm a caretaker for a living. I deal with plenty of poop and pee for a job. No need to incorporate it into my video games too.

Did you know you can pee blood due to dehydration? Just don't drink during multiple missions and he'll say his pee is a little red and then make a ex bomb from it

I found out by accident when I came back from a trip and had no boots on for a while and then heartman was like it came from my blood in my pee or from my feet or something. It was probably from being beat up or falling down too many times and not replenishing health or anything then going to pee. Maybe...
Cause I’ve noticed 0 is shower 1 is pee and 2 is poo so 1+ is probably also pee but pissing blood from being injured.

@@TheI465 yes... Triangle for shower, circle to pee, and square to 💩... You have to get to a certain point in the game, then every 2nd or 3rd time you go to the bathroom they make the EXO grenades

@@AndyMillz how do you stay seeing them? They constantly disappear unless I scan and even then they dont necessarily always show up on every scan from wbag I can tell.
@@bigmacdoubleyouv i know this is an old comment but just in case someone else finds it useful, you have to be stood still when you scan for the BTs to show up, if you're moving when it's scanning they just won't appear.
@@cathyannis83 I figured that out a bit later. I was probably 2/3 through the game when I figured it out. And at the same time I realized you could shoot the BT ghosts with blood ammo. Would have made the first 2 thirds easier and more fun had I known that

@@brianchen3964 Yeah, after about 25 hours in the game, I find the enemies are not nearly as tough as they look. All are easy to take out once you get familiar with your options and controls.
Brian Chen I do that too and it’s worked so far. A tip if you have precious cargo then drop if before you Aggro them and then clear the BTs
But if your trying to grab a deliver clearing them is easier then killing it cause they still creep on the ground with hermetic

I guess if you had done the research and then shown us only the results or highlights from that. This feels almost more like a let's play than an informative video. This is very subjective criticism, no doubt, but hey there it is
