I thought that Maureen had a good voice but when Patricia began singing it was on a whole new level. What a beautiful voice.

Thanks for this document, whenever this was exactly. I saw Patricia Cahill in the Gaiety Theatre back in (most probably) 1977, so maybe almost 40 years ago. She was an excellent singer with semi-classical voice qualities Her Irish records (with full orchestra) are without any doubt the best and timeless. She sang already at the age of 10 and was in the National Final for Eurovision in 1965. Does anyone know when she was born? I must have 10 albums of her at least but cannot find her year of birth. She was the last of a generation that could still sing in the "classical way" , more or less later overshadowed by pop, rock, commercial stuff and flies by night. For those who don't know her (well), try the Irish songs like the Kerry Dances, where her soprano-voice matches the orchestra beatutifully She also made a brilliant album with tenor Kenneth MacKellar, who must have noticed her qualities ,resulting in this duet-album. Greetings from the Netherlands. 12 votes for Irelands Patricia!

My father used to sing this, and he also had a way of whistling through his teeth without pursing his lips.
The original gramophone instrumental was used in the dance scene in downton abbey when ANNA BATES was informed by the police that she had been proved innocent of Mr. Green's murder.

This sketch was also done on the Opening Night of RTE 2 from the Cork Opera House in 1978 that was also compared by Mike Murphy. The wording is slightly different though. And I remember seeing it on Gaels Of Laughter in the Gaiety.
