1995 Brixton at night, shops, streets
I used to drive buses through there in the 90s, 159 and 109 mainly. Absolute chaos at times.
The 109 goes past the camera at about 50secs that might be you haha
Still is, especially in the morning

Are you for real?? Brixton was a jungle these days. Don’t let a little video clip fool you

Was he touriing in Brixton?.
lil dave knows he has opps now 😭
I remember travelling through Brixton the day after the riots in December 1995 to go and watch Spurs away at Selhurst Park to play Wimbledon, and you couldn’t tell that they were riots the day before!
David where are you
Does anybody remember the West Indian man who sold incense at the station? He had such a loud and great voice just repeating "IIIIN-CENSE!!!" and the old West Indian woman who sold pictures and played the kazoo and shaking her piggy bank to play rhythm. I had just moved to England and lived in Brixton the best years of my early adult life.
Wow, a year before I was born. It's almost as if after 2004-5 a lot of these old cars were taken off the road. I still have memories of jumping on the old style buses down near the Oval. I lived just up the road from this in Streatham hill at number 10 Wray house. My mother passed away in the flat in 2000 when I was 3 and a half and I have only been back a handful of times ever since. A lot has changed from what vast memories I have
I’m sorry to hear about your Mother. The 1990’s were good memories for me. I was 11 that year. Samuel Andrew Byrne
@@gentlemendontspit7831 By no means in a sombre way to I look back at it but it just evokes great and inquisitive emotions seeing people who were kids before I even existed. I used to live at number 10 Wray House opposite the Crown or Rose and Crown at the big crossroads where you can go left to Clapham or straight to Brixton.
Her name was Jane Oliver, got in touch with a few of her old friends too. She got heavy on the crack and heroine again in about 97 or 98 and by 2000 she packed it in completely. It's all changed now. The flat where I used to live has now been divided up I to THREE tiny flats.
I live at Chipstead house just over the road from you
@@UNITDW Ever remember a Jane? Slim girl, brown hair, brown eyes? Used to live on the Carmichaerl estate
Like going back in time. Love the flip of the bird to the camera, typical... Mc e deees how you have changed!
Wow. How cool. Spot one single person on a mobile phone at 3.06 damn!!!
Yeah I noticed her too. She was brave boy, walking through Brixton at night on her phone. I was shocked had to rewind to make sure. Mobiles were not that common in 1995.

28 years later and brixton still has the gang reputation
Everybody knew to not go to those ends. As teens we were literally taught to avoid that area lol
When I see a Ford Fiesta in these 90s videos I always think of Justine Frischmann, great times!
Thanks for sharing this ❤
Everyone of us teenagers back in the day, knew to avoid Brixton at some point of our lives lol
Now times have changed so much with Instagram and people showing off holidaying in Dubai etc...
Loool I started secondary school in 2006 and even then we avoided Brixton but things changed around 2010 I think
I’d love to hear the tough guys in this video talk. The teens spoke with a cockney accent back then.
@@Fatfrogsrock Sir I have seen videos from 2001 where black kids speak like cockney geezers.
The rails by McDonald's are long gone. It still looks the same. The only difference is the cars and perhaps a few different shops. I'm in Brixton at least once a week...
Thank God for cameras and the uploader
Went to london in 99 Brixton still had that gangster reputation
Still has its gang problems just now people seem to think shoving up a few overpriced flats up and cleaning the place up in areas makes it posh now. It just has yuppies living along side gangs.
Yes. But anywhere that has a high minority population is always demonised and crime more highlighted. There were many MANY worse places.

Four years down the line, they would be a bomb scare around Electric Avenue and Iceland
Brixton wasn’t easy them times. Not to say that it was a no go area but a lot of gang names rang bells around s London.
Hell, speaking as someone who grew up around there in the early 2000s, even to this day I still feel I have to look over my shoulder if and when I ever go around there. The place just carries bad vibes, even despite whatever levels of gentrification may have taken place.
@@zufgh You can just feel the bad energy at certain hours of the day in Brixton. Dont think thats going to change anytime soon
Heard gang wars were crazy back in these days

@@mattysykes2121 no, bro. U ain't from London then. There were riots in 95 smh
@@mattysykes2121 I can confirm there was a riot in 1995 after Wayne Douglas died in police custody. Nothing on scale of 81' riots or more recent tottenham riots which filtered to different parts of London, but a riot nonetheless.

I'm not familiar with London, is Brixton a black neighborhood?
Yeah it’s multicultural in a sense but its similar to chicago in a sense , there’s a lot of blacks in Brixton
@@blazin2880 ty
It was a white neighbourhood that black people moved in to... theres a big difference.
@@Brock-Lesnar-WWE lmao not at all .. Brixton was a place for carribean migrants .. so stop lying. Brixton ceased to exist so how could it be a white neighbourhood when it was destroyed years prior because of war? Homes and buildings wasn’t even a thing, so stop lying. Then Africans and West Indians started arriving and it became a place for black people to keep there culture in a new environment. there’s many predominantly black countries than whites moved into too , nobody is worried about that stop trying to make this a race issue and get a hobby you must be bored broski..
@@Brock-Lesnar-WWE it wasn’t. it was a carribean & african neighbourhood. Brixton didn’t exist.
erm Its London
Game Freak, Brixton is a district in London.
Grew up in southall, in the 2000's as a sikh, a lot of crime and gang warfare there too. The tooti nungs, holy smokes and the shere punjab who were a faith defending militancy.
All had authorities and descendants
I remember hearing about the Holy Smokes back then
@@tompearce6312 yea they were something too, tooti nungs got wiped out, however, the leader of tooti nungs HAS a relative called Injection, widely known as Injection Singh, he is an ex criminal who still alive, today he is changing lives and is a bodybuilder! You should check out his yt, his old videos tell us about the holy smokes, and the tooti nungs when he was a teenager in london.
Lmao indian gangsters😂 Sorry no offense but they would never have gotten taken seriously here in south london back in 2000s, and especially still wouldn’t today neither. Most of them nowadays are just cringy battyman tiktokers showing off their eyebrows thinking they’re bad and tough, and even back in early 2000s the crime rate in southall was quite minor compared to the warzones in Brixton, peckham, lewisham, catford, woolwich ETC. many parts of south London were notoriously the most dangerous parts of London or even UK as thats where a lot of multiculturalism and rise in diversity (specifically nigerian and jamaican immigrants) ORIGINALLY gave birth to much higher rates of gang/violent crime as they were more likely to grow up with lower opportunities of employment, mental frustration as a result of stronger racial discrimination compared to other ethnic groups and many other factors aswell. Indian GM’s from southall aint on it like that mate🤣
