    if it doesn't have the abilities, attacks, and defenses of a minf flayer, then it isn't a mind flayer...

      It'll probably have some mind flayer characteristic, like the previous summon aberration where the beholder form had an eye ray and a fly speed and the slaad form had regeneration

    You can summon a mindflare not one from the monster manual or a good one but a highly nerfed one because we don't want you to accidentally have fun

    There is a spell that is an abstraction of spider sense. A ninth level spell called foresight.
    You touch a willing creature and bestow a limited ability to see into the immediate future. For the duration, the target can't be surprised and has advantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. Additionally, other creatures have disadvantage on attack rolls against the target for the duration.
    It's clear that spiderman has this on at all times

    The new mechanics make the game easier to play, but make the options feel samey. Whats the point in summoning one option over the other when it only changes the damage type?

    The summon spells are balanced way better then the conjure spells or animate objects

    Sounds easier to use than flipping to the MM; as long as we get what’s most distinctive about it in the spell stats. Not all mind flayers need the same stats in the same way that not every guard or bard needs to use the same MM NPC stats. Similarly, my beastmaster’s bird is better served by the feature stats than the MM stats.

      You have any idea how easy it is to find a monster with DND beyond like two buttons

    But SHOULD you summon a mind flayer?

    I don't know if this a hot take or whatever. But I actually hate the Summon spells and I hate that the Conjure spells have just been made into the Summon spells.
    I think it's really lame that you just essentially summon a Play-Doh version of the creature that is not the same as the actual creature in universe.

    • @Crabappol
      @Crabappol 3 дні тому +3

      Yeah, but it does align with how people actually play the game. When's the last time you summoned an imp or a blink dog or whatever and showed up to their cookout or spent 30 minutes trying to convince them to set off a trap for you? Typically summons end up being used for the stat block and the thematic overtones, not for all that comes with it.

    • @Ewafingmyth
      @Ewafingmyth 3 дні тому +3

      @@Crabappol Sure, I'm fine with the Summon spells as is. I don't like that they're removing player access to monsters. If I create a monster summoner, I want to summon the monsters that I see. I don't want to Conjure Generic Swarm of Animals, I want a Raccoon or a badger for their specific traits. Additionally spells like Planar Binding are almost useless if I can only bind a Generic Demon of Wrath or Celestial of Peace.

      It just feels samey. Old summoning let you try out unique monsters with unique abilities and mechanics, new summoning just lets you choose the damage type and whether it can fly.
      Summoning an Invisible Stalker to assassinate someone from miles away is MUCH more interesting than summoning some generic elemental that can only hit people.

      @TerminalDevastation 2 дні тому +1

      This is less an issue with having a templated version for the summon, and more an issue of them not putting iconic abilities of the creatures on the template.
      It doesn't have to be the exact same mechanically, but it should have equivalents to the same tools even if weaker for balance reasons.

    • @2MeterLP
      @2MeterLP 2 дні тому

      @@TerminalDevastation true, though adding a bunch of conditional abilities would make the statblock near unusable.

    WotC is gentling the entire game. D&D is turning into a goofy caricature of itself.

      While I do very much agree with you and see that summoning a completely self serving being with a superiority complex is absurd, I believe it should be a GOO warlock only thing given that the patron could be some form of elder brain dragon.
      Things now do feel like they’re catering and coddling. I don’t care what the book says. Letting a barbarian use rage as a way to make persuasion checks with strength is absolutely ridiculous. Not losing concentration on hunters mark is too much. Rogues jumping with dex is a huge stretch. They listened to much to “I want I want” and not enough to what should be

    • @unknowncomic4107
      @unknowncomic4107 3 дні тому +2

      @@wowb1965 I definitely agree. Also in the case of a GOO-Lock summoning those creatures should be incredibly dangerous at the least.

    • @Brutalyte616
      @Brutalyte616 3 дні тому +2

      @@wowb1965No, the Barbarian being able to substitute Strength for Charisma on persuasion makes perfect sense. They're using the threat of potential violence and their obvious strength as an intimidation tactic without actually threatening someone, giving them a bit more leverage in conversation; they're being nice and the person they're talking to doesn't want to upset them. That, or they're flexing hard enough to either impress someone into agreeing with them or seducing them into agreeing with them. Burning a use of Rage is just a mechanical thing, and I'd personally rule that it'd just give the Barbarian advantage or something and anyone with sufficiently high Strength can use it as leverage in a conversation if they do so intelligently.

      Simple solution. Don't play this edition. Not that hard of a concept to grasp. If you don't like it you don't have to play it.
