As a New Yorker, who grew up in Flushing for most of my life, i can 100% understand how Rocker or anyone (not from the area) would think those things about riding the 7 train, or walking through Times Square. Riding the 7 train isn't something New Yorkers would "show off" to a tourist. Its not very clean, and some riders, well some are sketch to say the least. And Lord knows rhe city has gotten worse on all levels since then. But what Rocker thought of New York was based on his impressions and assumptions, some of which were right, some wrong. As a New Yorker, who grew up in Flushing for most of my life, i can 100% understand how Rocker or anyone (not from the area) would think those things about riding the 7 train, or walking through Times Square. Riding the 7 train isn't something New Yorkers would "show off" to a tourist. Its not very clean, and some riders, well some are sketch to say the least. And Lord knows rhe city has gotten worse on all levels since then. But what Rocker thought of New York was based on his impressions and assumptions, some of which were right, some wrong. But his only mistake was saying them out loud.
