Those are probably people who are jealous of you owning more than one horse that you just use all the time because they can't imagine or don't want to imagine someone owning a horse that just lives a nice lazy horse in a pasture. Or someone just owning a horse for company instead of training. Personally, I'm jealous of anyone who is able to own a horse or is able to at least afford to take regular lessons. But I don't go out complaining to those people who are able to do such things...

I had an amazing experience with Claire and my sale horse Theo, as many of you probably have seen him on her channel previously. She does an incredible job with the horses she trains, she listens to them and helps them be the absolute best they can be. I would never have sent her another training horse (Leon) if I didn’t trust her 100% completely with my horses care and their ability to learn and compete. As a horse owner and lover myself I completely support Claire’s decision with Owen even if it is ultimately none of my business. If Claire were to call me up today and tell me that jumping/eventing/dressage doesn’t fit Leon then I would respect her for doing so. There is a big difference between training and using discipline when necessary and training and your horse just hating their job. You have to do what is best for your horse and Claire put in great time and effort and is now ultimately listening to her horse. That’s a true equestrian. Ok... soap box over. Thank you for taking such great care of Leon, Claire!

It is SO beyond important to do what’s best for your horse. Claire it sounds like you doing what he loves to do. It doesn’t mean that you’ll never event again, you’re just taking some time which makes Owen a happier, more enjoyable horse in the long run. With my horses I never have had showing goals, they’re just pleasure horses. We trail ride, do liberty and tricks and just have fun. It’s the best and it’s so so invaluable for the horses well being. Having a super diverse schedule with your horse is so good for you both. Doing stuff like trail riding and bareback will make the times when you do the hard core stuff more enjoyable😊love what you’re doing

I'm so glad to hear that you are listening to what your horse needs. And not having any agenda for Owen, makes it much more enjoyable for the two of you. With having Owen in the same field as Oakley, will teach Oakley horse behavior. And always having a project horse, is a great thing. As riding many horses will always help any rider ride better. Because every horse is different and can teach the rider something, if they are willing to listen to the horse and learn. Best Regards from Ontario, Canada, Jenn.

Taking a break is okay and it’s totally your decision because you own him and take care of him pay for his vet bills, boarding fees, etc. so do what you want and don’t listen to anything anyone else says because it’s probably the right choice since you know your horse better than anyone else🥰🥺🤗

We took on trail riding and that switched to endurance and we've had a few 100 mile rides under our belt now. Everyone else rides Arabs or Arab crosses, and I've got this big goofy warmblood who loves to climb mountains and go on big adventures.
But put him in a show ring or ask him to jump in an arena and he goes full panic attack mode. But the difference between Owen and my horse is that he absolutely does not want to do arena work. He gets too anxious.

My dad bought my horse 12 years ago to do hunters. However, I wasn't comfortable with high jumps and wanted to do dressage. My horse HATES dressage (hes such a beautiful dressage horse too! :( ). Anyways, I tried barrels for fun and OMG I can feel his excitement! Hes not the best barrel racer but he looovvveeess it. Also enjoys pole bending (dressage helped here hahah). But I adapted to what he wanted and our relationship got soo much stronger and now hes my big baby who loves to run and trail ride. I never ended up really competing but i have no regrets. I'm proud to be following a horse lover like you. :)

I’d love to see one of the trail/fun/bareback rides with Owen though he’s so gorgeous. You don’t have to push him to jump for videos or anything I’d just like to see what he is doing instead? Xx

Doing whats best for your horse is really important for a horse human relationship. If Owen isn't enjoying his work then I think that taking some time off is the right thing to do.

And like you said maybe once you just focus on one discipline like show jumping he'll like it better and if nothing else he'll forever just be your big pasture puppy 🥰

You should try positive reinforcement training, that will make things more enjoyable for horses. Plus it's a fantastic way to train.

That’s so bad, I’m sorry. Same with the showing thing a little bit, my old horse’s Trainer brought him to training and then when we bought him he was a train wreck with trust issues. Resulting in me only showing 2 times in the year that I’ve owned him. Kinda the same in a different way. But I love Owen and your horses so much, you’re so lucky

Has owen been scoped for ulcers? Warm bloods are prone not only to regular ulcers ( squamous ulcers, treatable with gastrogaurd and caused by inconsistent feeding, stress etc), but also glandular ulcers which have no known cause and are treated with a different medicine called Sulcralfate. Because owen is in less work, probably in a field more, etc, it would make sense why he is happier not working! Up to 75 percent of show horses have ulcers!!! And 90 percent of horses on the track! The only way to determine if he has glandular ulcers is by a scope. We scoped my horse this summer because insurance covered it and be as a little girthy (no huge unwillingness to work though), and he did have some ulcers of both kinds! We treated it for 6 weeks (it’s a pain in the ass, you have to give medications an hour before morning grain) but he IS A DIFFERENT HORSE!!!! He is sooooo happy and loves to work now, even tho he was not upset about work before, sort of just average. Highly recommend! Most insurance cover the scope and medication! If you get him insured (don’t mention to vet anything about ulcers when doing physical exam for insurance), and then get the insurance, and then ask to get him scoped, they prob will cover it
