Good day I’m seeking advice, hope u can respond.. I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with fraternal twins, my second visit few days ago indicates they are behind on weight, the doc said they are at 6%.. What I want to know is what percentage they r suppose to b at this stage n what I can do to help boost their weight gain.. thank you
I just found out I’m positive for gestational diabetes! I was so stressed out especially since this is my first pregnancy and I had no clue where to begin with changing my diet. But seeing that my favourite nurse has a video on it makes me feel a lot better! Thank you nurse Zabe 🙌🏽
Try keto diet. I did same. Beat insulin and only take lowest dose of glyburide at bedtime for the fasting blood sugars. I eat very nutritious meals with low carb keto style recipes. Baby is doing great at week 38. All the best to you.
Thank you so much for doing this video! I recently delivered my baby boy and had Gestational Diabetes during my pregnancy. I think this video will be very helpful for those who get diagnosed. I did not know anything about it until I was diagnosed and it can be very overwhelming at first. I was very lucky and was diet controlled with no complications. For those diagnosed with GD, you got this! 😊
Can you talk about all the things that happen right after baby is born- tests, injections for baby etc. and the reason behind each of these? I would love to hear your perspective on being informed on each of these and deciding if all of them are right for you and your baby.
Where I work if Mom has gestational diabetes we need to check baby blood sugar for 12hrs (check every 2-3hrs). If baby fail the test we can give sugary gel to baby, but we can only give the gel twice, then if the sugar level is still low baby needs to go to Nicu. But most of the time if mom do frequent breastfeeding (or formular if mom agree) and skin to skin will do the trick.
Really appreciate the the quality of your videos: content, clarity and the lovely smile. I’m attributing 25% of my confidence about being pregnant to your great videos
May 2020 I was diagnosed with GD at 30 weeks (1st pregnancy with zero risk factors) - turned out to be a blessing in disguise for my baby, my husband and me because the additional ultrasounds revealed an abdominal wall defect that went undetected at our 20 week scan! That aside, I was diet controlled and scheduled to be induced at 39 weeks but ended up going into labor on my own the morning of. Baby was born healthy! 7 lbs 10 oz. :) If you are diagnosed with GD I recommend joining the gestational diabetes support group on Facebook; very friendly and supportive group! I also struggled with the home sugar tests (finger pokes) and ended up using a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) -device that sticks to the back of your arm or stomach and gives you continuous readings without having to poke yourself. They're *technically* not approved for gestational diabetes as the readings can vary slightly but worth asking your doctor if you struggle like I did, because for me it worked great and was a godsend!
Im in my 1st pregnancy and was diagnosed a few weeks ago with gestational diabetes. Videos like these help. :) so far I've kept it in control without being put on any meds.
I got gestational diabetes with my current pregnancy. But literally right before getting pregnant I lost over 30 pounds! 😫 but even with all the weight loss I was still considered “over weight” 😭
I would love to watch a video about PCOS from you. I suffer from PCOS and i know so many girls out there have the same problem. I love your videos and always watch them here in Switzerland 🤗
Thanks for spreading awareness/information!!❤ im over a month into my GD diagnosis & so far I've been completely diet controlled! Hoping to keep it up for the rest of my pregnancy (7 or less weeks)! 🤞🏻
I found out at 28 weeks I have GD. At 30 weeks I was put on insulin (4x a day). I’m 35 weeks now and I’m struggling every single day. My OB has been very vague with me about delivery with GD. This video made me feel more at ease. Thank you!
Make sure you’re fasting. My dr said I could eat a light meal and after I did that I was borderline. Did 3 hour test and passed with flying colors. That test was miserable, so just fast.
I found out at 28 weeks that I had GD. 😑 it was a train wreck for me. I met with my dietitian and diabetes councilor. After 2 weeks of monitoring my sugar levels I was put on insulin. Everything seemed to be going well then my fasting numbers jumped again and my insulin was increased. I was 36 weeks when I went into spontaneous early labor. I was sent into the hospital and given steroid shot for the lungs and the shot in my arm to stop contractions. (That shot is no joke. Worst. Feeling. Ever.!) After a couple more hours of monitoring I was checked again contractions didn’t stop and I dilated to a 7. Baby time! My daughter was born and she spent 8 days in the NICU for breathing problems and jaundice. We finally got to take our peanut home at a whopping 5lbs even! She is now a healthy 6 month old and is meeting all of her goals. I was never told if GD had anything to do with my early labor. My previous pregnancies went to past 41 weeks so this was very new to me. Is there correlation between GD and preterm labor?
My mum had GD with all of her pregnancies (and had recently been diagnosed with T2), and I have PCOS (without insulin resistance, my blood sugars are normally on the lower end), so this is definitely a big concern for me if I can ever get/stay pregnant. I just keep reminding myself that I already eat fairly healthily and exercise regularly, so it shouldn't be too much of a dietary shift for me if it does happen, and if I need medication, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I was tested early on (12 weeks) due to being overweight, and have been diet controlled so far (currently 28 weeks) with no high readings, have lost weight, continued my workouts, and have SO much more energy. Just hoping I'm able to stay diet controlled for the duration. Fingers crossed!
I wish this existed in October when I was diagnosed. I was so scared the whole time. Everything worked out but people are way helpful with what to do and risks to baby.
I love this!! My A1C was a bit higher prior to my 8 week OB appointment. I also have PCOS. My OB had me start testing my BS from that appointment. Then around 12 weeks, I was put on insulin. My BS are truly not high! I had only 2-3 readings in a week at 170-175 in a week, so my OB put me on insulin. I am currently 31w3d pregnant, and while I am still on insulin, my BS stay between 100-140. Thank you for bringing light to all of this!!
Thank you so much for this video! I had my 1-hour test at 27 weeks and failed, but doing the test made me so sick that my midwife opted to have me test my sugar at home rather than have me suffer the 3-hour test. My numbers look pretty good so far but it seems like when I try to follow their recommended diet, my sugar spikes. But eating sweets right before bed keeps my fasting numbers low and helps my sugar stay low throughout the day lol. You provided so much information on what will happen if I do have GD though, so thank you for that!
I had GD with my first pregnancy and it was diet controlled. I had no issues with it at all, I was already eating well because I had super limited cravings for savoury meals. My sugars went over when I had 2 bowls of oats for breakfast and once after having 2 slices of toast with soup. My problem was after I gave birth, the constant thought about what I was eating and the fact my blood sugars could fluctuate from 'healthy' food like oats, bananas and such. I had formed an eating disorder mindset and it sent me down a path of anorexia because I had a warped sense of healthy food choices and struggled to get out of it. It's been 3.5 years and I am still prone to having unhealthy thoughts about food. There should be a better follow up with people with GD.
I'm so sorry you had this experience. As someone who had GD, I can definitely understand how this could happen. I agree there needs to be more follow up.
I just had my baby last month and during my pregnancy I had to do the 3 hour test because the hour one wasn’t accurate. I had to do the carb diet 3 days prior to getting tested. It turned out I didn’t have diabetes thank goodness but the 3 hour test exhausted me.
I'm really happy that I went to the dietitian. I had a pretty good understanding of the effects food has on our bodies before but she gave me so many tips and told me things I didn't know, I'm sure I would have much worse results if I didn't go see her. My blood sugar levels are stable now and I'm 37 weeks pregnant.
I was just tested positive for gestational diabetes. I have severe fruit allergies so I couldn't do the glucose drink. I had to monitor my blood sugar levels for a few weeks and then my OBGYN looked at my levels and decided from there. My after meal sugars were mostly good as long as I didn't have too much carbs but my resting sugar levels are always elevated. What's hard for me is I was recommended to have 30 grams of carbs for breakfast, 15-20 grams for snacks and 45-60 grams for lunch and dinner. However, my body seems to do better with lower carbs at dinner time. I also don't snack the recommended amount of times because I'm never that hungry. I tried to lessen the fasting time but that didn't seem to work for the fasting sugar in the morning it's still above what she wants it to be at. So, I have a feeling at my next follow up with high risk doctor she will probably want to put me on medicine or insulin.
I was given the diagnosis at the start of my pregnancy because of my advanced maternal age (37) then had my 1st test i was 132, (they said I failed 😒) did the 3 hour and failed the 2 hour(by 5 points) passed the rest, they refused to say I didn't have it, even when I explained that I have always failed the 2 hour before. I followed the diet (which I was already pretty much doing since I have PCOS)and took the metformin throughout just as I had before for my PCOS. I worked with our dietician at work at she helped me more than anyone did but all my sugars were good when testing despite it all, none of those really changed with anything I did but after all my miscarriages I was afraid of losing my son so did all I could
Thank you for this video. I didn’t have GD with my first, but I did fail my 1 hour quite badly, and then my blood sugar crashed before the third hour on my 3 hour one and I almost fainted before getting my blood drawn. It is such an important message to pregnant people to let them know that having GD says something about your pancreas, not you or your eating habits. I suspect I failed my first one because I had a big bowl of oats with vegan protein powder and berries pretty much right before the appointment.
This was a really great video - thank you!! Would love to see a video on Vulvodynia/Vaginismus and Pregnancy/Labour...I'm currently 20 weeks with my first pregnancy and was diagnosed with LPV about a year ago. It's not something that is widely talked about or researched and it has such a huge impact on the whole experience!
In addition to seeing a registered dietician, I strongly recommend Mamas see an Endocrinologist to help manage GDM. Even if the OB office offers an “in-house” prenatal diabetic staff member, please investigate a referral to an Endo.
It sucked having it with my 3rd baby (didn't have it with the other 2) but I was so glad they found it in time because if i hadn't needed to be induced due to GD then I probably would have had a 9 or 10 lb. baby. All my babies were over 8 lbs. If you do get diagnosed with GD please take it as serious as it is because it will make all the difference in you and your babies health. I was so glad I kept my sugars under control with just my diet but you cant always control what happens. This video was awesome. I wish i had seen something like this when i was pregnant.
I'm doing an alternative to the glucose drink since last time when I drank the glucola drink I had debilitating stomach cramps all day. 2 boxes of the R.W. Knudsen grape juice is apparently a perfect replacement as it has 50g of sugar just like glucola!
With my first pregnancy I had to have the three hour test done and I ended up so sick that night that I ended up having to go into the hospital because I couldn't keep anything down and was getting dehydrated. Of course my midwife swore up and down it wasn't the test drink that caused it, that I must have had the flu however I had no other flu like symptoms, it was just vomiting anytime I tried to even take a sip of water.
I have my 1 hour glucose test tomorrow, this video is perfect timing to prepare myself for potentially having GD! I didn't have it with my first baby so hopefully I don't need to worry about it this time too.
I'm off to my two hour test (the only one done where I am in Australia,) in an hour, so this is excellent timing. It'll be the second time I've done the test in six weeks; I passed the first time, but the second test is mandatory, as I have a high BMI. Even though I didn't have GD during my first pregnancy, I'm still super nervous. Thanks for another wonderful video!
I have always heard about how horrible the glucola test was, but I thought the worst part of it was the waiting around for an hour. I am so grateful that my numbers came out normal. I was really afraid of getting it with my weight and age combo, plus I had polyhydramnios. They never did discover the cause for it in my case, and baby is a healthy little 5 month old now.
I just received a call that i didnt pass my 1 hr glucose test so I have to do thr 3 hour one, with my first pregnancy no complications at all, with this is been awful, i am a bit scare, I have PCOS plus i was in a fertility treatment that doctor said women who uses that treatment to get pregnant most likely get GD. Just praying for my baby to come healthy 🙏
I have a couple of those risk factors such as my weight, I’m over the age of 25, type 2 diabetes runs in my family, I’ve had protein and glucose at times in my urine during my pregnancy. And yet 4 babies so far no gestational diabetes, we will see about this baby. I think because of my risk factors my Dr always expects me to develop it and seems so shocked when I don’t lol.
@@Nurse_zabe it was mentally super hard giving up all my holiday baking:( but thank you! I’ll take any encouragement I can get-pandemic pregnancy is no joke!
I had Gestational Diabetes in both my pregnancies. I'm now thinking I may just get it again if I have another baby. My GD was controlled all with diet both pregnancies.
Does anyone know the likelihood of having type 2 diabetes if you have diet controlled GD? Also May I ask what the likelihood of needing to be induced or have a c section are with controlled GD? Thanks!
I had gestational diabetes, I was not over weight, I was 26 year old and I had to use insuline. But diabetes was just im my family, so now I have to be very careful in my daily life, I hope I won't have it in my next pregnancy.
I had quite the adventure with GD with my second pregnancy. 1st 1 hour, I was given 100g instead of 50g, second test for the 3 hour my doc forgot to send the lab order in so I had driven 30 minutes to the lab for nothing (it was 6am so my doc wasn’t available), then I asked to do the 1 hour again, failed and took the 3 hour finally and big surprise: I failed that too! Lol. After all that, I kept it under control with diet but unfortunately I had to be induced at 39 weeks. Ultimately things went fine so I’m grateful me and baby were healthy.
@@allisonishuman131 yes I did! I had a med free birth aside from the pitocin of course. Not the birth I wanted but it was still a great experience, especially compared to my first birth 😬
@@tayberjk2559 hey thanks for your reply, did you doc ever mention what the likelihood of have diabetes is after deliver for those who are diet controlled? Online it seems that 50 plus percent of women develop type two within ten years if they had GD.
@@allisonishuman131 the doctor didn’t discuss that with me but I am aware that I’m now more likely to develop type 2. I’m a year postpartum now and I’m working on my weight and diet so I will do what I can to prevent it.
@@allisonishuman131 honestly looking at my test results, only 1 reading was high and another was 2 points over the threshold so I don’t really think it was right to diagnose me with GD and it definitely wasn’t necessary to induce me. But I didn’t know better so I followed the doctors orders.
I'm 38 weeks and 3 days along I'm going to be induced literally 3 days before my actual due date , I assumed I'd be induced earlier having GD , I'm dialated to 4 already and was sent home since I am going to be a C-section , the perinatal dr has only made me feel as if I'm carrying the hugest baby ever . I'm so ready to have my baby 😩 ( I'm on insulin)
I've just had my baby nearly 4 weeks ago I was 36+2 when I had her she was big and the insulin wasn't working my blood sugar was constantly high they took me in to give me steroids to build her lungs up and steroids normally push up your blood sugar levels but after I got them I was having hypos constantly for a week even after my section I passed out because my blood sugar was so low
Thanks for sharing this info! I have type 1 diabetes, I wish there was more information out there about t1d and pregnancy (especially updated and recent information-treating t1d has changed so so much since I was first diagnosed 20 years ago), it’s sometimes frustrating to look for resources and only find info about GDM.
Thank you for your video- love them. I just found out tonight that I didn’t pass the 3 hr one- so feeling defeated. I had no issues with my previous 2 pregnancies. When I look at sample meal plans I get highly discouraged since I’m already a picky eater. I don’t eat seafood and the fruits that I do like are considered high carb. I know I’m already having a csection since my daughter and son were both csection. My question is after the baby is born and they monitor my blood sugar and everything is fine- will I have to have a restricted diet while in the hospital (which is hard when it’s not food that you are used to). Thank you again! Thank you also for your csection video.
I have my glucose test beginning of February im in the UK and the only test I've been asked to do i believe is the 3hour test so I have to fast and im not even allowed any intergestion medication which is rubbish so I have to go in early have a blood test wait 2 hours I think then drink a glucose drink then have more bloods x
My second pregnancy but first time with gestational diabetes...due date Jan 26th but possibly getting induced Jan 14th because my fasting numbers are out of range
Love your videos. Would you be able to do one with tips for labor? I’ve seen some videos about ways to speed up your labor but I’m skeptical 🤨. I’d love to know from a reliable source! ❤️
Hi Nurse Zabe! A great informative video. Quick question: you mentioned PCOS as a risk factor of GD. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS, but am lean (almost even underweight) and not insulin resistant. I'm having trouble finding suggestions and information for management and treatment both when trying to conceive and when pregnant with this particular category of PCOS. I'll be talking to an endocrinologist next month as well as my OBGYN for a preconception appointment for information as well, but figured I would ask (about tips for PCOS management/reduced risk of GD and increased chances of a healthy pregnancy) in case you have seen a case like mine. I've heard, for example, that metformin may be prescribed to reduce risk of miscarriage for PCOS patients who are pregnant even if they were not insulin resistant prior to becoming pregnant. Have you seen situations like that? Thank you! Love your videos!
I had GD and IUGR. Tricky because I needed to gain weight but restrict carbs at the same time. Anyone looking for meal ideas for GD, chipotle bowl( light rice & light beans) worked for me. Use the nutrition calculator on the site.
That’s so tricky! I’m sure you were followed closely to make sure you and baby remained healthy and safe. Love the idea to look up carbs for restaurant meals. Definitely makes things way less overwhelming!
@@Nurse_zabe yes i had frequent scans. Eventually I landed up admitted to the hospital due to hypertension( resolved then released). Admitted again due to NST not being reactive. All this for my miracle IVF baby.. it was all worth it! I have a happy healthy 9 month old now
Just want to say Thank You 💕 for making the subject easily understandable. There are a lot of pregnant ladies and partners out there that need to understand this topic better. I feel this video will ease the anxiety of many nervous people. I really encourage reaching out to a professional dietitian in the case of diagnosis. They will be a huge support for you in understanding how you can manage your baby's and your health. The dietitians have the resources, education, and work with others that can relate.
I read that the threshold for the 1hr test is intentionally low to make sure no one falls through the cracks (?). That said, any idea what percentage (give or take) of women fail the 1 hr test but pass the 3hr? Or more generally is it fairly common to fail the 1hr?
Do you know why it is safe for our blood sugar level to be under 140 an hour after a meal but dangerous if it's over 95 when fasted? For e.g if my level is 120 after a meal that's good but if it's before a meal it's not. Are high fasting levels (over 95 but under 140) dangerous to the baby?
Dear Nurse Zabe, thank you very much for your informative video! I have GD and my OB is suggesting a CS. The baby is rather small though, just 2.700 at 38 weeks. OB is afraid of the baby getting hypoglycemia during or after birth (25 - 30% chance she says), this is why she is suggesting the CS. My blood sugars are pretty well regulated and I was planning for a natural birth. Are her concerns correct or should I insist on trying to be induced for a natural birth? I am really confused, sad and don't know what to do...
I am borderline for it. I tried to do a better gestational diabetes diet and then began fainting again. Fainting I fixed by eating more sugar in my 1st trimester. I literally died the last time I had a VV syncope faint, and I am really worried now to mess with my sugary natural diet at all. What can I do? What can I do while borderline and it swaying? I tried replacing with carbs (whole grains, yogurt, ect.,) but long lasting carbs, and not sugars is what makes me sick. HELP.
My husband and I are going to try in the next few months for our first child. I'm insulin resistant and I've lost weight and changed diet so I'm going to probably get it. I'm nervous.
I am 21 weeks and my ob asked me to take readings at home...more than half of which were within normal limits...now she has asked me to start oral medicine?should i avoid that and try to do it with lifestyle changes or start the medication right away
I was told to fast for my 1 hour and got diagnosed with GD. I fasted for about 10-12 hours. I’m giving birth very soon but I’m starting to wonder if I wasn’t meant to fast for the 1 hour????
I was told to fast as well for the 1 hour and I failed by 8 points at 148. OB wants me to redo the 1 hour in 2 weeks and the staff once again told me to fast but I’m second guessing it and thinking of eating before I go in.
Does eating sugar make you more likely to have Gestational Diabetes? Does eating sugar contribute to bigger baby? My first Pregnancy with my daughter i thankfully didn't develop it and she was average weight 7 pounds 2 oz at 38 weeks 3 days. Im trying to eat like I did before I got pregnant only thing the odd time I need a mid night snack if I'm really hungry but only if I can't ignore it. I try to treat myself to my cravings for junk like chocolate on the weekends and not indulge during the week. I'm having my 1 hr glucose test in three weeks when I'm 24 weeks! :)
If you do not have issues with insulin resistance, your body should be able to handle when you eat the occasional treat and sugary dessert no problem! It only becomes an issues with your body isn’t able to regulate your blood sugar
I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with my first little one, and I have gestational diabetes. This was not exactly surprising because I also have cystic fibrosis, so I was diagnosed with "C.F.-related dysglycemia" prior to getting pregnant and was already being followed by an endocrinologist. As someone with C.F., my body already has trouble keeping on weight, so one of the things that happened when I changed my diet to accommodate the G.D. was that I actually ended up losing a bit of weight around 25-27 weeks! It was a little freaky, tbh, and now we're just trying to pack the fat into my diet - it's an interesting balance to strike, for sure - low sugar, high fat, high protein! My husband joked that we're trying to "fatten me up"! Luckily, no insulin has been needed yet, but I'm certainly open to it if it will keep my sugars stable! I'm just hoping that baby girl will be healthy when she's born! 💕 Thank you for your videos, Elizabeth! I've been finding them very helpful throughout this pregnancy!
I had GD with pregnancy #2 (diet and then a few weeks on insulin) and I did not have with #3 and #4-in fact I didnt even have to take the 3 hr with them (just had to take the 1 hr twice). I'm on pregnancy #5 and so far passed the first 1 hr at 14 weeks. I am at my heaviest this time around so we see what happens in a couple more months when I take my next 1 hr..
Hi another Elizabeth here from the UK 🤗 I was wondering if you could answer a quick question. Sorry if silly but will be a new mum in June so all new to me. I'm planning on exclusively breastfeeding, so my question, do I still need to pump?? Love your videos and been a fountain of knowledge, so thank you 😁
So that depends more on factors related to your lifestyle. Will you be away from baby at all? When will you be returning to work? Milk production works on supply and demand so you must remove milk to continue making milk. If you are away from baby and missing a breastfeeding session, you'd need to pump to replace that session to tell your body that the demand is still there. And keep in mind that newborns eat AT LEAST every 2-3 hours, but most people find their babies eat a lot more times than that in the beginning. My son averaged 17 times per day in the first month. Once you get past those first couple of months, breastfeeding becomes a lot easier for people.
Do you know of anyone who addresses how to have a life balance with GD? The first week after diagnosis, I fantasized about staying in bed and not eating every morning just so I could at least have thoughts that didn't revolve around food. My 7-month-old's nursery still isn't finished because of the schedule that doesn't allow for anything uninterrupted, all energy to be productive exercised away. I expected that when baby came-not before. We originally wanted 2 kids, but I can't imagine having to manage this and continue to parent my daughter. How does one do it?
Can GD make you feel poopy after you eat? For the last couple of weeks if I eat certain types of food I’ll start feeling “off” or unwell, so I’ve had the possibility of GD in the back of my mind. It’ll still be a few weeks before I take the 1-hr test.
I love your videos and watched your videos during my last pregnancy and am watching them again during this pregnancy. I've never commented on any of them, but I must say...."Birthing People" 🤮 Ah, political correctness 🙄
- 3 days prior limiting carbs to 150-200 grams - 12 hours fasted, no medications either - fasted blood draw, drink the glucose drink - blood draw at 1hr/2hr/3hr (This was for the extended test. Im 12 weeks now, my normal OB appointment is tomorrow so I’ll update when I know.)
@@elissay.3288 Hello, do you know why you have it? Are you overweight do you think? Or do your parents /grandparents have diabetes? Newbie here so just wondering why you have it and I don't when I eat so terribly. thank you.
@@halloweellahere7602 It’s ok! I was just sharing my experience 💜 My weight has gone up & down but start of pregnancy I was at my highest weight (196, BMI 33 I think). Due to nausea & vomiting that started week 6, I’ve lost 15 lbs, which isn’t great. My biological dad has (or had idk) Type2 diabetes but that’s the only history I’m aware of. I had intentions of getting my weight under control again (as I’ve been able to do it before), but surprise 😅 pregnant a year or two ahead of when we planned. I don’t eat all healthy, all unhealthy.
My mom had 6 babies. I was the 6th and was 11.5 lbs and born at home. My mom didn’t even have midwives lol. It’s crazy to bring up a c section as an option because the baby is measuring at 9 lbs and these measurements aren’t even accurate. This is one of the reasons c section rates are so high

I’m getting induced today everyone! Wish me luck ☺️💕

If you are diagnosed with GD I recommend joining the gestational diabetes support group on Facebook; very friendly and supportive group!

I got gestational diabetes with my current pregnancy. But literally right before getting pregnant I lost over 30 pounds! 😫 but even with all the weight loss I was still considered “over weight” 😭
You are doing great. Sometimes your pancreas can’t keep up with the demand, even if you do everything right!
30 lbs is no small thing. Great work!
Same girl same!!!
Thank you!
This means so much to me. I have my test in a week and I've been really really nervous about it :( thanks so much for all of this info
Make sure you’re fasting. My dr said I could eat a light meal and after I did that I was borderline. Did 3 hour test and passed with flying colors. That test was miserable, so just fast.
I have to have mine next week also.
@@laurenashleysexton Mine said I could eat too, thanks for this tip!
Did you develop actual diabetes after delivery
Everything worked out but people are way helpful with what to do and risks to baby.
this came right on time 😭 just found out today I have to go on insulin and I was feeling so terrible about it.
That is my problem. Their diet makes my sugar spike, and when it falls, I faint! Did you figure out a solution?
What night sweets are you eating?
Just had my 1 hour test today and waiting for my results! This video came at the perfect time. Thank you!
I just got diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes the day you posted this
I was just tested positive for gestational diabetes.
Oh yes! Totally forgot to mention! My OB refers to an amazing endocrinologist (the one I see who manages my thyroid).
Im23 weeks into my second GD pregnancy (5th pregnancy total) this is very good! Thank you!!
Glad you found it helpful! Definitely share any tips you might have!
I’m glad you found an option that worked well for you!
Thank you for posting! I just found out this morning I didn’t pass my three hour test so I’ll be dealing with GD the last 10 weeks of my pregnancy
I just got diagnosed with GD 😩 did you get rid of it after delivery?
I would love a video about being a Type 1 Diabetic while pregnant, what to expect and so on.
Happy you were able to post a video. I hope youre doing well and out of the feeling bad stage of pregnancy.
Good luck! 💗💗
I have gestational diabetes right now and had it with my last 2 pregnancies as well. It sucks, but it is manageable. Thank you for this video!
It totally is! 💗💗
I just got the call on Christmas Eve that I failed my 1-hour test... such great timing for me! I take my 3-hour test tomorrow
Ugh, that’s rough news right around the holiday! But you’ve got this. Whatever the news! 💗💗

It is definitely more likely to have it again with your third pregnancy.
I just got diagnosed last week and all of my numbers have been great except my fasting numbers. Do you have an advice on how to lower those?
I’m in the exact same boat as you and would love any tips for the fasting portion.
Thank you for all of your videos! I am learning so much!
Hey thanks! Did you get to deliver vaginally?
How did it go? How big was baby. Having mine next week and worried of course. I'm insulin controlled
I’m glad I found this lol I have my glucose test on January 5th and I’m nervous!!!
Did you pass out during the c section? 😳 I'm insulin controlled but I'm worried that not eatting will cause hypoglycemia during.
@@Naturalista_i I never passed out during but my blood sugar dropped to 1.4 in recovery I passed out then and needed a drip
When I was in labor; they didn’t monitor my blood sugar at all. All they did was test my baby a few times during our stay.
Did they make you have a restrictive diet after the baby was born when you were in the hospital?
Sharon Prykowski nope, I kept asking about my blood sugar but they said if I felt fine then it was okay I guess.
I’ve had 4 kids and they have always had me fast. At least they always get me in at the earliest appointment they have available.

I am ALSO due on April 23 2021. I think its closer to May 1st but ...
Yes, dietitians play such a large and important role in managing gestational diabetes!
Hey nurse Zabe, any tips for dealing with morning sickness and GDM2?
I was told to fast for my 1hr test and failed at 153. Wednesday I go for my 3 hr test and was told to fast.
Mine is in the morning, thank you!
Just had my glucose test this morning! 🤞🏻
I’m going tomorrow morning
💗💗🤞🏻
I read that the threshold for the 1hr test is intentionally low to make sure no one falls through the cracks (?). That said, any idea what percentage (give or take) of women fail the 1 hr test but pass the 3hr? Or more generally is it fairly common to fail the 1hr?
It is! About 15% of people who take the 3 hour GTT will test positive for gestational diabetes.
With my son I had a borderline result after the 1hr test so needed the 3hr which I passed, he was 8lbs exactly and 6 days late!
Hi.. wondering if you would say many of these same things for diabetics? I am a Type 1 Diabetic and very nervous about pregnancy.
HELP.
Getting my 1 hour test next week! 🤞
💗💗🤞🏻
My husband and I are going to try in the next few months for our first child. I'm insulin resistant and I've lost weight and changed diet so I'm going to probably get it. I'm nervous.
Not necessarily! It sounds like you’ve made some good changes already to help with your insulin resistance!
I am 21 weeks and my ob asked me to take readings at home...more than half of which were within normal limits...now she has asked me to start oral medicine?should i avoid that and try to do it with lifestyle changes or start the medication right away
I’m just waiting for my GD 1 hour challenge. Thanks for the info!!!!

@@Nurse_zabe you were not kidding about the nausea... phew I had to just walk around to not vomit 😬
Do type 1 diabetic birthing people need to do a test? I would guess not, but I never know lol
Better explanation than from my midwife, thank you.
I was told to fast for my 1 hour and got diagnosed with GD. I fasted for about 10-12 hours. I’m giving birth very soon but I’m starting to wonder if I wasn’t meant to fast for the 1 hour????
You totally can, but you don't have to!
I was told to fast as well for the 1 hour and I failed by 8 points at 148. OB wants me to redo the 1 hour in 2 weeks and the staff once again told me to fast but I’m second guessing it and thinking of eating before I go in.
Is GD only diagnosed with hyperglycemia? What about hypoglycemia?
Perefect timing I have my 3 hour glucose test tomorrow (not that I think I have it)
2 things;
1. I love that you use the term “birthing people” 💚
2. Can you do a video about smoking during pregnancy?
@@Nurse_zabe thank you for clarifying, I read so many mixed things online. Google is scary and I need to stay off it 😬
I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant with my first little one, and I have gestational diabetes. 💕
Thank you for your videos, Elizabeth! I've been finding them very helpful throughout this pregnancy!
Sooooo what happens if you don’t drink all the drink? I was able to take mine at home and then go to the office for the blood draw.
You have to drink the whole drink within 5 minutes.
The 3 hr test is impossible!!
Definitely. I have GD (insulin controlled) and definitely feel my heart racing/fatigue after meals that raise my sugar.
Can a pregnant woman safely opt out of the test? 2nd pregnancy and didnt have it with the 1st pregnancy, only category I fall in is overweight.
Can you make a video talking about forceps/vacuum deliveries? I’ve heard they’re dangerous to baby and mom. Is that true?
