Ice cave is a somewhat mid cave imo. Just cuss you can´t really place proper outside defences (ground is very un-even). I lived for 2 and 1/2 years with lost crouch as my main base, on a no-wipe. Stupidly strong. No real reason to spam vaults (you didn´t have a wall, so i get it), typically, you can just sit in the crouch and wait for them to come in and then free grapple, into turrets.
