I just thought of an excellent use for unwanted a 380s why not convert them to waterbombers aircraft that they can carry a huge amount of water to dump right on a forest fire
It's probably a daft question, but why can't the A380 be modified for two engine operation, ie. replacing the four Trent 900s for a couple of Trent 7000s! You'd then have A380 capacity, and two engine economy! The assumption being that two 7000s could haul the beast into the air...
That assumption is wrong. Even if you slapped a couple GE9X there, it would still fall short of the current power and would be just barely enough to get off the ground. Comercial aircraft need to have spare power to fly on a single engine at least for a while (the A350 can fly for 3 hours on a single engine) in case of engine failure, and this hypothetical aircraft would have nothing of it. @@ultra_01 You mean for the MAX? That's an unofficial name some airlines are using to deceive passengers to take the plane. Kinda stupid if you ask me.
It's a beautiful plane and engineering marvel, to be sure. However, it appears that it is not convertible to be operated as a freighter version. This makes the 747's design and engineering look that much more impressive, innovative, and forward thinking, considering it was developed in the late 1960's.
The 747 was in fact mostly designed as a freighter from ground up, the raised cockpit on the hump is exactly for the rising nose of the 747-F versions, and funny enough, the reason it was so much of a freighter comes from a failed bet, that the future of passenger aviation would be supersonic, so the project could still succeed in other areas. A failed bet that turned into a winning bet, pretty funny to think about. The A380 being not convertible is mostly due to it not being super easy, not that it's impossible. Most of the reason for not having an A380-F was due to Airbus not being able to keep up with the A380 passenger version since the start, it's biggest issue with Airbus was always producing it not selling it (heck, it sold more than the MD-11 and about as much as the L-1011), even if it did sell little in the end, producing it was just too expensive having to bring such huge parts all around Europe. People that say it's "impossible" to convert just parrot stuff someone once said about the floor not handling it (as if it was impossible to reinforce as well) and not having enough payload, even tho it would still be a tad higher than a 747-8F... But it not being an available choice is true indeed. With a very low acquisition price in 2nd hand, it might turn out viable later on tho.
@@Kalvinjj The one viable option for AIRBUS or any other concern out there who would take into pocession numerous examples of A380s being disposed of by AIRLINES, is to look into the possibility of a Firefighting Arerial watertanker. Already in the U.S. there's a 747-400 doing that job and so far doing it well. Case study is needed for the A380 to give it a promising, if limited, future. "No fighter jet motions, just straight line approaches."

@@midknight1978 Still though, Etihad are an airline I want to fly with but with the global pandemic and other issues, some personal, I won't see that happening for years. Sad to see the A380 being retired from their fleet, as its not common from my local airport Emirates are the only ones now operating daily A380 flights from where I live.
The A380 not being a freighter had more to do with Airbus having production difficulties ever since the beginning of the program, rather than not wanting to make one or much less about it being impossible. It's not about it being hard to make a freighter, it's about it being hard to make in general.
At the present, Emirates, British Airways, Singapore, China Southern, ANA, Korean Air/Asiana are either currently operating the A380, or have stated intentions to return the A380. The unknowns are Qantas, QATAR, and Malaysia. And I believe Qantas will eventually return their super jumbo's. In other words, the type is not dead yet!
It was nice hanging at the business class bar on Emirates and Qatar Airways A380's, but the plane will always be remembered as a failure. On the other hand, the 747 will absolutely be remembered as the greatest plane of all time.
It funny how, way back in he 60s, the designers of the 747 realized its potential for failure as a passenger aircraft, and so added the versatility for cargo, yet the a380 people completely skipped over that part...
I know the concept of hub airports are notionally dead but if those are the slots you have what do the fuel prices work out like if you can buy the aircraft for cents on the dollar and fill it?
Remember that the DC-3 derived from the DST, the Douglas Sleeper Transport, a modified wider version of the DC-2. The DST was the original version of The Residence on smallish scale. Changing aviation world takes it´s toll.
Czech Airlines hasn't completely collapsed yet. The final call will be made in June when creditors and stakeholders will meet to decide whether to continue with the airline or to sell off all assets and liquidate the airline entirely. It's sad that years of mismanagement crippled the airline and subsequently, the COVID-19 pandemic hit the airline especially hard. It's also sad that here in the Czech Republic, we have a dysfunctional corrupt government, that doesn't do anything except talk when it comes to serious issues like saving the national carrier which also happens to be the fifth oldest airline in the world.
South African, FlyBe, Air Namibi and now Czech airlines. The least few years have been rough for airlines and I dont imagine this will be the last bankruptcy caused by the pandemic

That Embraer is an Air Bulgaria E190. Fun fact is that one of the 4 they have used to fly for the now defunct Air Italy when it had to ground the 737MAXs and so needed a substitute for the domestic network, and so they wet lease one Air Bulgaria's E190
737 -8*
@@ultra_01 You mean for the MAX? That's an unofficial name some airlines are using to deceive passengers to take the plane. Kinda stupid if you ask me.
@@airplanewhat5316 interesting. imma correct dat. thanks for the info.
@@chesterwang3070 ok no problem thank you!
@@johnhenry6762 Damn that would put out quite the fire, I would love to see one of those for sure.
@@Kalvinjj Shame to see it go away too soon. Hoping something is done soon to keep it plying the skies for decades to come. And I agree, a sight to behold doing firefighting duties at low levels.
I live in Abu Dhabi but and i'm aussie and it's so sad to see them go as they were very big over here. It's also what they used to advertise with!! This is huge for Etihad........ I just went past the Etihad HQ the other day and there is no 1:50 massive A380 model outside only the 787 now... which further backs it up.
a380 is too big, especially during pandemic with drastically reduced travel. Etihad should not operate the plane knowing they'll lose more than gain
Hi mate, I'm a cabin crew for EY. Got my license on A380 just before corona started. I had only 2 flights on the type, I still hope I'll fly them again one day. They're great to work in
Great stuff as always DJ. Been here since 500 subscribers and never miss a video.
Keep up the excellent work. I for 1 really enjoys and appreciates it.
Have a great weekend ✈️😁
Thankfully I got a chance to be in their A380. I have flown their Economy and Business Class and it's really good. But it hurts to see that such a young aircraft is retiring
rip etihad if they went bankrupt
2003-2021
Nope Czech airlines
i fly for the company and flights are expected to increase from june. but still no guarantees. as per your remark, its highly unlikely that etihad will file bankruptcy as its supported by the government. hope this helps :)
@@midknight1978 ok thanks i said if tho but thanks for the info
@@midknight1978 Still though, Etihad are an airline I want to fly with but with the global pandemic and other issues, some personal, I won't see that happening for years. Sad to see the A380 being retired from their fleet, as its not common from my local airport Emirates are the only ones now operating daily A380 flights from where I live.
747s still have a bright future among cargo carriers, something the A380 can’t do.
All those who got to experience the residence are lucky. Can't get such an experience from now sadly.
R.I.P Czech airlines, you will be missed !
Sad for all the employees and families
My favorite airline 😭
@@dragoner3211 Ikr its so sad to see an airline go 😭
It’s not actually gone yet, just filed for bankruptcy.
Other airlines that have already done this are Aeroméxico and LATAM.
@@user-ot4wm2fh8g True, I hope they will survive then
Airbus should have seen this coming and made the a380 easier for a freighter . I will be so sad to see the 380 disappear!
They knew it wouldn't last, It was only made to beat the 747 in size
@@ethansaviation2672 Sad tho.. Such a beautiful air frame..
@@ethansaviation2672 I agree. It was a good publicity stunt and really put them on the map.
@@Mag0Lag Very True! What's also interesting is that the 747 wasn't even Boeing's idea. It was Pan Am's idea being driven by Juan Trippe.
I know the concept of hub airports are notionally dead but if those are the slots you have what do the fuel prices work out like if you can buy the aircraft for cents on the dollar and fill it?
Chech will most likely be replaced by Wizz
Gosh. There was a lot in this video. Nice work... yeap! I'm enjoying them.
The Etihad livery on the A380 was always so unique and memorable. It'll be really sad to see it go. 😢😭
Remember that the DC-3 derived from the DST, the Douglas Sleeper Transport, a modified wider version of the DC-2. The DST was the original version of The Residence on smallish scale. Changing aviation world takes it´s toll.
@@gerardpully762 Yeah
I still find it stunning that man can build these things and they actually work. Stunning plane! It is so beautiful.
The A380 was a dinosaur, when it came into service, even at that time the twin engine long haul aircraft were the preferred for economic reasons.
Yet another amazing video. Just one thing. The audio is soft compared to when ads play. Other than that great quality.
I wonder which type has had a similar short life span as the A380.
Comet? Caravelle? Trident? VC-10?
I would equate it more to the Boeing Stratocruiser.
It sucks that Etihad is not bringing the A380 back considering I never got to see it!
I honestly think that the B777-10X, B787-10, and A350-1000 will be the future for long range, high capacity flight.
I am sad
according to planestoppers all Etihad a380s have been retired it seems
It will be very sad if Etihad decided to retired the luxurious A380 because of lack of the products they had on there A380 fleet.
Interesting clip thanks
I think the dream line extra long fusarlarg be more fuel economic
The a380s seem too young to go
South African, FlyBe, Air Namibi and now Czech airlines. The least few years have been rough for airlines and I dont imagine this will be the last bankruptcy caused by the pandemic
slovakia losing ACG global cargo, go2sky and TSA in the same year (last one rebranded and moved) am i a joke to you?
