    What really needs to happen is for Bailey, Lutz, Larson, Schroeder, Goldstone, and any other heavy hitters to attend DragWeek in the same year and settle it once and for all. I'd pay double to see that before going to any nhra event.

    Conversion of Red Victor 3 from street to track...
    -Fill the tank with methanol
    -Swap the street rear tyres for slicks
    -Fit wheelie bar
    That's it - all the coolant stays in, rad stays, no panel changes, cup holders stay, electric windows stay, passenger seat stays

      @Norm Macdonald Show he could have done, if he hadn't retired. But Frosty was never interested in the whole Endurance Event thing - nobody runs their best numbers at Drag Week and Frosty always wanted to run the very best numbers which he, the car and the team were capable of. There are some plans in place to create a "UK Drag Week" type event, and it'll be interesting to see what cars attend and what numbers get run - but I'd wager it'll be a long time before anyone in the UK (or Europe) runs street legal numbers close to what RV3 achieved

    What we do in sweden is that you build a car, u register it and go to car inspection with a slow motor or The power turned down and after you switch motor or turn it up again. If The car inspection is sus they might ask for dyno papers so u go dyno it on a really low rev with engine turned down and its done then and If The car is 50 yrs old or older no future inspection is needed after the one u do to register it as a custom vehicle.
    We got a lot of insane Street cars everywhere here that ppl actually use outside sthlm open and our drag week called Street week.

    I wholeheartedly agree with the "everyone has an opinion" comment and of course, someone will complain no matter what is said or done as usual. You can't make everyone happy. For me, a street driveable 5-second car, with plates and insurance that gets a few miles put on it on the public roads qualifies. However, completing the virtual hell week that these track-to-track torture tests/events can be, lends a great deal of credence or credibility (read Respect there) to any claim ET or MPH. Everybody on the list should be happy to be on it, and appreciate Tom's consideration in his making of a list. Having made Drag Week multiple times and heading to Rocky Mountain Race Week this year as a spectator I'm always amazed at the effort it takes just to complete any of these events and everyone should be applauded for what is a very serious achievement. Looking forward to watching the Nomad, and Alex Taylor in her '55. You guys have a good week!!!

    Been following Larry Larson for years and the S10 was to prove the absurdity of what was going on. He was the first into all of the benchmark averages and the one that normally did it without a trailer. The Nova is still the ultimate true street car. And truth be told, would be still be dominant on Drag Week if he still ran it.

    • @crazylarryjr
      @crazylarryjr 3 роки тому

      The Nova would run in real steel (same class as the javelin), so there would be some stiff competition. Other than weight I think, the truck could have as well, steel cab and possibly bed

    • @xXxSelnixxXx
      @xXxSelnixxXx 3 роки тому +12

      The Nova felt like the essence of what Drag Week was about. The S10 always seemed more like a statement about the direction that Drag Week was headed and the ludicrous lengths people were going to to 'win'. The times I've run across Larry at the drag strip and at a cruise in he seemed like just another dude that loves the sport.

    • @crazylarryjr
      @crazylarryjr 3 роки тому +3

      @@xXxSelnixxXx, I completely agree, matter of fact real steel is the top class in my opinion. I get race cars can be tagged and insured, but they were never what they represented. At least the Nova and S10 had a true vin # and were once a real vehicle that drove actual miles. Yes the truck needed massive changes from street to strip, but at least it was once stock. But I do agree the Nova and the ones like it (Javelin and the gold 67 chevelle that ran the last Drag week 2019)) were what the whole thing was about. This is why I'd love to see more of them, but realize most people could not ever build something like that. I know i could never, most i could do, if i were lucky would be a mayyyyyyybe 10 second car that'd survive DW

  • @crazylarryjr
    @crazylarryjr 3 роки тому +1

    I agree with your assessment, where I live it's like you, no emissions or inspections. However if you are running loud piped without cats, you can get ticketed. So my philosophy, is If you got it tagged and can actually street drive it, cool. Hearing Larson might be bringing the truck out again, made my year. I also heard Lutz might bring something (rather see the 57 than the promod), but would love to see you guys run again. Look forward to seeing any of you, that do show up.

    Thanks Tom for explaining what you see as a street car as where i live there is no way you could even drive that out of your drive way lol. You put a turbo, supercharger, nos or even put different brakes or c notch a frame you have to apply for a cert and will often be declined. You guys in the USA are very lucky.

    It’s crazy how everybody has a different opinion of what a true street car is

    • @crazylarryjr
      @crazylarryjr 3 роки тому

      A lot of it, I assume, is the restrictions in the particular city/state. For example in my state (Ga.), out of all the counties, there are only 13 that have inspections or emissions testing. My county (Bulloch), isn't one of them. So technically, I could tag and insure anything that I have a vin # on. However there is a few restrictions, that even I have to follow. State law says, if the car has cats, they have to stay, or be replaced if necessary. Anything before the application of cats don't need them of course. But if you keep the exhaust quiet enough, they rarely ever inspect, so rarely ever gets caught. That is my state and my county, others may be much more restrictive, or even looser

    • @crazylarryjr
      @crazylarryjr 3 роки тому

      @A Man In A Hat These organizations can't run one set of rules, that would exclude so many people and this is strictly fun. if this were NASCAR or NHRA yes a set set of rules would work, because there's money to be made. But for these type things it's dependent on the tagging state. If Cali then you have laws to follow, In my county in GA the only thing i got to worry about is noise (no emission checks). I could fix that with electric cutouts or long enough pipes off turbos to dissipate the noise. It's all about the state you live in and the specific county in my case (13 have checks and also pull over checks). the only solution if you want to run tags without checks is move where they don't do checks, or vote the motorheads in

    First off, I love all of this stuff! I just wanted to throw my opinion out there. I think to be a "street car" should be a steel cab, roof, quarters, with a factory assigned vin tag, and stock wheelbase for that production car. I think that pushes the capabilities of a builder/driver. That makes it more interesting to watch, instead of someone calling a promod a street car. Again nothing but respect, this is only my opinion.

    I love going back and watching older shows to see how things progress and most people make the mistake thinking just because you can't register it in California means you can't drive it there as long as it's legal to drive where it's registered it can drive on any U.S. street

    i also believe steel roof and quarters and minimal changes btwn street and track. i notice larson and lutz dont drive these new cars (larsons pickup has been on outlaws and no prep) but not the car. yea you can drive the pro mod on the street with a fake vin, but keep it the same for the track.

    It is very hard to compare considering how strict it is over here in Australia, we simply cannot have the "promod" cars on the road. But Definitely Frank Marchese from Dandy Engines should be on that list. 6.90's at over 200mph, in a street driven, all steel, glass windows, factory floor pan, factory wheel tubs, leaf sprung, 275 radials, four door XW falcon with a world block (steel) twin turbo windsor.

    Basically what I can for the whole mph with a slower et or faster et with less mph is how hard it's accelerating and where. It also has to do with how long you have to accelerate too I believe. A car on the track longer might have more time to go vroom vs a car on the track less time? Shit gets complicated when you get going that fast. Top fuel physics are nuts and that's what I'm loosely basing this on with what I probably don't know... Lol

    sweden is very strict, none of the cars that come to america are allowed on the street as they are.. we go around the rules by swiching engines etc for the yearly inspections or just drive them illegaly on the street.
    some cars from way back have papers called t31ax that say that they can run whatever they want but its very hard to do today as you are only allowed a certain power to weight ratio etc.
