I can't thank you enough for this, Ben, I started with Eagle 18 days ago and have just sent my Gerber files off to Seeed today! The presentation is snappy, precise and fast. I use the pause button or rewind if I miss something(!) Your excellent, concise editing makes the whole thing short which means it's easy to find the bit I want. Again, thanks - and keep up the great work.
New episode! Get an intro on the design software program EAGLE for your next project. Putting together industry-standard design files isn't too tricky after all
I recently discovered your show (love it, btw). You've covered everything! It seems like every time I search for a tutorial video, The Ben Heck Show shows up! Thanks so much for everything you do!
I seriously do not know how to thank you enough, I've been stressing about learning pcb development for a new job that may require basic board designs as part of product development stages and this was the perfect tutorial to get me started.. Thank you!
One word about him "Amazing" I purchased a xbox 360 one handed controller (left/right) that he developed. It was the best purchase I ever made. He also will try to help you & has great customer service. I had a brain tumor removed & since then I can't use my right hand. I was so bored & felt left out. This product gave me part of my life back so many take for granted. THANK YOU Ben for all your help!! I recommend this product to any in need.10/10
I have watched like 10 different videos all like 30 mins long and this is the best and most informative one. You hit all the topics i want in a timely and effective manner. Much appreciated.
Great video, Ben! When introducing the schematics view, you mention that when connecting schematic components, you MUST use wires and can't simply drop the components next to each other for them to connect. In fact you can just drop a component next to another and if one or more of their connections "touch", they will be connected by wire automatically.
This is a unimaginably brilliant tutorial, I can't possibly tell you how thankful I am. I would love to see you elaborate more on some design principles some time.
If you want to continue a wire from the other side of the PCB you don't have to place a via manually. You can just use the Route-Tool and do a mousewheel-click and it will automatically place the via for you :)
itead/ seeed studio. One of the best value oriented manufacturing houses out there. I can attest to them having pretty decent quality products, especially awesome for the price!
Fantastic tutorial. It touches on all of the important parts of working with Eagle to get a product created. I like how you showed the ERC but have to say, in one screen we see the trace, in the next it's missing ;) . ERC will show airwires :) Thank you.
That's exactly what I wanted to learn, but I don't know sh*t about electronics, I just got into this world a couple weeks ago. I guess I just have to study a lot about to first learn how to create my own PCB. I want to create a portable game based on a orange pi, to be as cheap as possible, and I guess the most I do myself, the less I'll spend, and making a mother board with all the modules on it would not just make it more organized, but original and practical, even would help improve the design. Also, I guess i wouldn't need to wait half an eternity for all the stuff I need arrive from China (yeah, I live in Brazil then definitely doesn't worth buying a single module here cause it'll cost 3x or 4x it value). Btw, thanks for this channel, you guys are being a great help, also a great inspiration
FYI If you contact them, Express PCB will provide you with Gerber files for a reasonable fee as long as you've ordered the board from them at least once. It's an easy way to go from prototype to production for simpler boards.
Well, order custom boards with ARM chips already soldered on. And you're right, I'm not sure where I'd get one (would likely make a somewhat larger, more powerful version of the Pi, just to make things like arcade cabinets with)
I know this is an old video, but I've struggled with Eagle all the time I've used it, so any hint helps. After you make the schematic, and switch to the board, all the components are lying in a lump. Rather than move them onto the board piecemeal, and risk getting an error message if you drop one, "that feature not available in the free version", grab the group tool, surround the bundle of components, right click "move group" and re-place the bundle within the boards boundaries
How about you make an episode on the cheapest/best way to create your own PCB. Like the ones that you print your template on the PCB. Then you certain types of acid etc.... Either way never knew you could send a board to a company to get it easily made.
When a new video file is uploaded to UA-cam it's processes and made available when the processing is done. UA-cam makes the lower quality files available first as they are faster to process.
Never use autorouters. They are notoriously inefficient with layout and add way more vias than you'll ever need. Placing components inside first works fine for simple board like that. But when you have a couple dozen components, it makes more sense to cut the circuit into sub-circuits and run the traces (excluding power and ground) and then drag and position that sub-circuit inside the pcb walls. That should help keep your traces shorter and avoid you wanting to pull your hair out.
Do you have videos where you explain all the basic terminology of electromechanics? Because, I'm fairly new to this, I know a little coding, but I only had like one year technical education (and only 2h a week). I seriously hate myself for not doing something more technical :p anyways thnks! (Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Belgium)
this might be silly question, but, when dealing with analog portion of your board, why did you choose to use pull up resistor more than voltage regulator? just wondering.
Ben, I think it would be cool for you to mod an iphone to run android, use a micro usb and have a slot for a micro sd card. im just curious if this can be done or not.
when a vid is up loaded and youtube says it is available to the public. but that is only in 360p. it takes time for youtube to process the HD video. just try refresh your browser. XD
Hello. I use Eagle CAD for a while and have a question. Why they don't include standard enclosures instead of all the parts in the world. I would like to use DIP, SOIC, TO, instead of this I have to search for every component. Sorry for my English.
Hey Ben can you make a wearable computer using the rasberry pi and have it be able to play DVDs my little brother has always been interested in them but I haven't been able to make him one.
Giving the same name does not work for me. I created one ground symbol and named it GND. Then when I create yet another ground symbol and try to name it GND I get the error "Name GND already exists!". Eagle does not ask me to connect the two.
I'm completely new to arduino. if I were to convert a breadboard prototype to pcb, and solder everything, would i need to program the controller or w.e before i solder it onto the pcb?
Henry The Unicorn I'd recommend an IC socket if you're using standalone microcontrollers, so you can replace them/change the program more easily and also reducing the risk of heating the IC itself up too much.
The best tutorial so far. I watched a couple of others but this one is right to the point without a lot of other talk.

What do you think about altium designer? Is it better or worse than the CadSoft EAGLE?
*****
It's too expensive for a hobbyist.
*****
They are in two different worlds, Altium is decades in front, far more complex end to end and also high cost for a pro market.

Depends on what you want to mod first, ben has a video on what equipment you need to get started with electronics (modding included).
WOW!!! This is GREAT. I remember using EXPRESSpcb in 1998, and you draw everything like MS paint.
@12:05"Lets name it GROUND" XD
Intentional or not, that Douglas Adams quote made me smile.
i have no clue what all this is about... watched it all.... love the knowledge this man has. lol.
THE best "get off the ground" rundown on a PCB design tool on youtube bare none.

I did this last semester at university. Man would this have eased the pain I endured.

Awesome video, I really want to get into designing my own PCB's and this video I think is going to really help me get started. Thanks for making it!
Quick, positive, and informative. Thanks!

Eagle is a great cad program, when I was a student we used eagle in school.
I know this is an old video, but I've struggled with Eagle all the time I've used it, so any hint helps. After you make the schematic, and switch to the board, all the components are lying in a lump. This is the best one yet

A perfect tutorial Ben, thanks :)
Thanks Ben, make more eagle tutorials, they are very helpfull...
This is not about this episode but, If you were new to modding, What equipment would you need. Soldering iron, Solder, LED's, ETC... ??? Thanks
Might you do a z80 or similer computer some day, that would be a nice touch for this channel imho.
Hi Ben,are you ready for a new episode? Please give us some lessons if you find some time about commands etch..
thanks Kostas
"This book is awesome!" Priceless! XD

Boy that was informative! Thanks!
this is awesome. Now figure out what to do with it! namely wher I'd order ARM cpus.

Very useful tutorial for a beginner to became an export.
Well done, Sir.
Great video Ben, has given me some ideas :)
i love this channel its very very usefull
Can't play video on IOS5 iPad using the default UA-cam app. Works fine in Google's own app.
this might be silly question, but, when dealing with analog portion of your board, why did you choose to use pull up resistor more than voltage regulator? just wondering.
Super work!
Thanks, this really helped me out.
So true, I tried it my first time and it forgot like 5 pins, so I just routed manually.
Cool thank you i needed a program like this
Ben, I think it would be cool for you to mod an iphone to run android, use a micro usb and have a slot for a micro sd card. im just curious if this can be done or not.
Thank you, this was very helpful!
There's a length.ulp script that shows length of routed/unrouted traces.
Hello. And where do you have the position frame - that is, the boundary of the work area, the size of the work space? For example, A4L-LOC?
What is ground and how do components connect to it and is it important to have ground on your pcb?
Wow, that ad read after the 9:00 mark, was suuuuper muddy.
It works fine for me, I'm using a Galaxy S2.
You might have seen it right when it came out
when a vid is up loaded and youtube says it is available to the public. but that is only in 360p. it takes time for youtube to process the HD video. just try refresh your browser. XD
12:50 connection throw the pcb (from bottom to top)we using via tool
Im guessing you made that 10 pin header called SV2?
Ben can you build a automatic soda can defuser combined with the soda can chiller
The video's pretty great but, where can I see a piece's design and download it to eagle??

was that camera audio on the commercial?
Thanks sir
Confused why you used net connections for power and ground and used lines for the other connections from the microcontroller and the capacitor.
No more PCB design rules file on the Element 14 website it seems. Can't find one on any website actually.
its amazing sir
can you make a Video about shift Registers like the 74HC595
Thanks Ben, ur awesome.,
i wonder if there was any bias going into reviewing jeramy's book..
Also how do I find out which layer my airwire is on, the bottom blue or top red?
Nice. I failed miserably at trying this out on my own
Thank you..
you could have put a link in the description part of the page to the Libraries...
Sir Please Show How Can we Etch P.C.B Manually After Designing PCB in Eagle.
Ah, ratsnest. Probably the most useful button in the world :D
When i route my pcbs, i hit it like every 10 seconds ;)
Do a video on basic coding
Why only in 360p ? or is it an issue with UA-cam? -.-
Wait, how did you add symbols for the screw holes?
This certainly isn't a "getting started" video as much as it is an abbreviated version of a "getting started" video.
how do you deal with very tiny smd components, having trouble with routing LTC3225
Giving the same name does not work for me. I created one ground symbol and named it GND. Then when I create yet another ground symbol and try to name it GND I get the error "Name GND already exists!". Eagle does not ask me to connect the two.
Hey ben, can you please do a tutorial on autocad? thanks!
Hello. I'm a beginner in Eagle CAD, though I have some experience in PCB layout. I would like to cooperate with someone to master the program.
The ad must have worked because everyone is talking about it lol :)
I find the eagle difficult to use. part searching is also pretty hard and slow. they should improve it
Nice
How to make tpa3122d2 in eagle softCAD ?
What is the website of the board house in China where I can send my boards. It sounded like seebs Studio. Please reply back.
Is this one better than OrCad? and is it compatible with mac?
I'm completely new to arduino.
if I were to convert a breadboard prototype to pcb, and solder everything, would i need to program the controller or w.e before i solder it onto the pcb?

Nice video !!! bit way too fast though, could you please explain it bit slowly?
Why not 1080p?
who is the suplier?
Build the a lighting up laptop something like alienware but makes yours better more lights the ultimate laptop
can you make a propeller clock
thank u sir
hiii,,, can i print the pcb layout using printer that use at work office?
I can't find C-US CAPACITOR, American Symbol or the C0805 capacitor in Eagle 9.6.2 and a simple web search doesn't seem to help me find the library.
Nevermind C-US is under rcl now
