Rules Arbiter Steve here to talk about an RPG 40 years in the making! Transformers now has a modern RPG game where you can play as a heroic Autobot under the leadership of the great and powerful Optimus Prime, fighting the evil Decepticons, and leader Megatron!
Using the Essence20 system, you can play as a variety of Autobots, using Energon to power your abilities, level up and gain more powers, and better gear to take on more challenging missions, and eventually go up against some of the most iconic Decepticons from the various shows, comics and movies!

This game is just what I am looking for. My son LOVES transformers, he is a huge fan and I have not had much luck getting him into other RPGs.

I have this RPG as a Christmas gift. I probably will never play it. I have a Rule Lite game called Tiny-D6 Mecha vs Monsters 2nd Edition.
That game is billed as Rules Lite, and it still is, but it is more complex than the 1st edition.
Don't let the title of the game make you think that Tiny-D6 Mecha vs Monsters is Pacific Rim: The knock-off game. It totally can be played that way, but the writers even mention that you can do whatever setting you want. Hell, you can even play the monsters. But, what size they are, how many there are, why they're fighting, ect, that is all up to you. In one game the robots can be the size of buildings and fight Godzilla-like monsters. In another game you can play rebels in 7 foot tall power armor fighting the government A.I. robot army to gain your planet's freedom. You make your setting you want. They do include some pre-made settings such as one where you take your customized robots to a planet full of mega-fauna monsters, kill them, but the motivation is to cut them up for meat and take that back to your home planet to feed the masses. Yup, your're a high stakes hunter in that one.
It does have rules for transformers and combiners. They're not supposed to be the norm, but nothing says you can't make it that way.
29:00 - absolutely, I've played D&D, but this is different enough that it is difficult to understand the character creation system without understanding the gameplay system.
I've been playing this game online for several sessions now and we are having a blast. I even play as a Dinobot and it was fairly easy to do despite the game not yet having full rules out to do that, only some basic guidelines.
What dinosaur did they choose?

@inosaku1984 I have our house-ruled interpretation.
You can definitely have Transformers and GI Joe mixing it up. The fiction does support it. Current comics sort of push the idea that GI Joe, Transformers, and M.A.S.K. exist in the same fictionaly universe, with a lot of crossover potential due to the reverse-engineering and proliferation of Cybertronian technology on Earth.
Vampire: the Masquerade though is under the World of Darkness umbrella and uses the Storyteller System. Its own MCU crossover potential is with the other games set in the World of Darkness like Hunter: the Reckoning, and the upcoming Werewolf: the Apocalypse.
I’d say the events of The Ultimate Doom three parter in the original show can account for the rapid increase in advanced human technology in the second season of the show and in GI Joe, MASK and The Human presence on multiple planets in the third season of the show. After the widespread destruction wrought by Cybertron being in earth’s proximity the Autobots would have helped reconstruct much of the world’s technology and infrastructure, with some Cybertronian technology being given to the humans or even illegally procured burning clean up and construction. It wasn’t long after that Dr Fujiyama created a very Cybertronian-esque robot, as well as TORQ-3 gaining sentience and Sean Burger building advanced interplanetary space craft. In a world with open, acknowledged contact with cybertonians you get an Earth Defense Force and interstellar trade within 2 decades.
The part about integrated hardpoints always tripped me up. The book is not not clear if you can change it out between missions. Another thing is the attack box on the character sheet. How do you even begin to fill that out?
I have both Power Rangers and Transformers and TF is the better written book by far.

Does the book, as it is written, allow you to play decepticons?
No, not overtly. Your GM could allow it if they were willing to house rule some of the weapons and abilities, but the book presumes that you are an Autobot. Decepticons as official player characters will be in a future supplement, according to Renegade Studios.
Decepticons? If you don’t have Maximals and Predicons running around on early 21st century earth, then what do you have?
They have more books supporting the game, theres a decepticon core rulebook out too.

I've been meaning to pick up a copy of the vampire card game as well.
