Whalen's Speed: EP10 | 300WHP+ Stock Can Am X3 Engine Tear Down

- Nothing to crazy here. For the ones who are interested. We had the opportunity to tear and check out some of the vitals of our engine. This is the original engine we from our 2019 XRC. This engine has plenty of dyno pulls, 40 psi of boost and still ran great until we pulled it! But, John explains some of the things going on inside. If you never seen what's inside a 900 ACE Can Am engine, this is great video to watch. THANKS!

100% transparency, if you don't go to whalenspeed for your X3 needs you're only settling for second best 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We appreciate that, Kessler! Thank you!
Although you did this video 3 years ago, I had to comment just how useful it is in 2023. Such a great learning video. Thank you so much!
Thank you for what you do for this community John, and the whole crew at whalen speed.. great video as always
Thanks, Bubba!
Nice video very descriptive. you guys are progressing the game!
Thank you, Jace.
Four years later now.. Have you broke a crank yet? Awesome video as always!
No OEM cranks yet.
Great job on the video well done and to the point. I'm glad to see what a well built engine I have in my x3
Hands down I will be getting your setup tune for my 2020 x3 rr
Good job, you are the Michael Jackson of the X3 engine
Just found your video. My X 3 is at the dealer for a timing chain tensioner and whatever else it took out. Warranty or it would be at your shop like my clutches. Great service both visits. 👍🏼
Awesome vid, per the usual
Thank you!
Thanks for the vid. I wonder the Pistons has no teflon (coated) pistonskirts like other high performance engines. Greetz from germany.
I’m thinking you might be able to put it in a small hot rod, like an Austin 7, Fiat Topolino, Hillman Imp, Crosley, Ford Pop or something similar. The question is what transmission would you use?
Awesome video
Thank you, Joshua!
John have you done a tear down on a YXZ engine? I'm curious about the crankshaft firing order between it and the X3. I have an X3 and the only thing I'm jealous of on the YXZ is the exhaust note. The X3 sounds more like my little Kubota where the Yammi is more musical (go figure they also make instruments). Are the firing orders different between these 2 mills? Awesome video btw, when I turn the wick up on mine you'll be getting a call.
Thank you! You can give Dylan a call in the sales office anytime if you have any further questions about what will suit your machine best. As far as the question about the YXZ stuff, we haven't really dabbled into that market much. We have tuned a couple NA machines but other than that, we have not torn one down or built an engine.
I'm curious about how / why the yxz sounds like that too, definitely the best sounding one of the bunch at the moment
What, my x3 sounds like a hayabusa or an R1 lol
195 horse x3 with 91 octane tune and clutch kit for trail. What is max performance rpm.? 8,000?
Great video. Thank you.
Gracias por traducirlo
This is awesome
Thank you!
Hey there 👋
Need some solid answers please before making my purchase
I'm planning on buying a 2020 X3 xrc turbo rr with the ace 900 triple. My concern before hand is the life expectancy of the engine.
In your experience if I were to take really good care of the maintenance and not drive like a mad man
( I plan on doing 75% of driving on road a little trials)
Question is 50k miles realistic with not going near the engine or rebuilds stock? Can a rotax engine live that long with not burning oil and issues in general.
Should have done a liquid test on those valves before removing...
Friend, can you help me on how to put on time crankshaft and camshafts of a maverik x3 2018
We have a whole video on wow to time an 900ACE engine.
Gotta question if you think could hlep me sunk my canam turbo rr xmr and the snorkel kit wasn’t hooked up properly water had got sucked up into the motor changed oil about six times and it was still mixing water with coilant chnaged head gasket everything didn’t fix issue so removed the motor and the stator case was full antifreeze and to mention this is brand new motor any suggestions what could be the issue .
How long will a stock engine last that’s being serviced regularly?
A long time at moderate levels with proper fuel and tune
@@JohnWSRD long time like what? 1000 hours?
The crank will bend at around 400 ish HP under boost
We're not seeing that.
@@whalensspeed realstreetperformance is breaking into the same exact engine. That particular one had 400 ish HP. Boosted of course,a ringed block and that crank was bent🤟
@JD TV... Interesting for sure! But, we've been past 400hp for a long time now. Crazy things do happen when making power, though.
@@whalensspeed fifteen years ago if you told me you were getting 400 horsepower I wouldn't believe. Crazy how things have advanced, I love it...
Would a honda k20 fit in their with a type of conversion plate.
oh, i'm sure it could be done!
Big takeaway.... stay away from Leakage
You guys need a better or new camera the focus is tairabile
No, its pretty good for what is. Auto focus isn't the best in lower light.
It's "terrible". I appreciate it though.
Im wondering if internally the head and block is the same as the can am ryker 900s and seadoos and ski doo 900s. If so that opens alot of potential to this ryker i have 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Great video.
Thanks, Rick!
