Having owned both , i still have the xt and sold the wr . The xt is simple to work on , air cooled , no oil cooler , easy to adjust the valves , no shims etc . Does 60 mph all day long , no premium gas , fast enough off road and easy to handle . A great bike
For those of us that are vertically challenged we wish a shorter 250 and 450 were available. You're worried about the mini bike look! I'm trying to reach the ground.
I’ve ridden them both, and preferred the XT. Knowing what I know about them, I’d vastly rather own it, too, due to simplicity, maintenance frequency/ease, and lack of making me want to ride like an idiot, haha! I would’ve stiffened up the suspension and put a little taller seat on an XT had I settled on one. I ride TWs, though, so I’m insane and shouldn’t be listened to anyway, haha!
I had a XT225 that I put 10k miles on, mostly commuting in Las Vegas. It was fine at 55mph all day long. Didn't like it much above that. 1st gear was so low on that bike it built my confidence off road going downhill on technical terrain. Anyone that rides off road knows going downhill brake use really needs to be careful. Not on that XT the engine braking was awesome. The air cooled was never an issue even desert riding in 100+ heat. That WR looks pretty awesome and I have heard good things about them but I could never find a used one for a reasonable price.
I have the xt250. Love it. It's the lowest of all the dual sports (not counting TW200) but still retains 11 inches of ground clearance. With my 30 inch inseam it means that I can waddle through the really hairy stuff. It has a bigger fuel tank. (That's super important for backcountry riding) I also prefer the simplicity of air cooled. (Less maintenance and you don't have to worry about breaking a coolant tank, radiator, or ripping off a hose). Other bikes have better suspension specs but you have to pay the piper somewhere for the low seat and high ground clearance. Personally I have never felt the need for any more suspension but I guess more advanced riders would. Also if you're tall the xt may not be the bike for you. I know people might hate me for saying it but I would rather see an xt300-350 than a wr300-350.
The low seat height just can't b beat for confidence building and safety. I ride with guys in pretty gnarly stuff and they mention how their 5 figure bike has to go in for some kind of service work. So far my service work consists of taking it to the car wash..
You have a real talent for these type of reviews, very well spoken, not overly opinionated or critical and a true pleasure to listen to. Thanks for taking the time to make this comparison. I have a 2019 WR and honestly couldn’t imagine any less power but I also have several bikes in the 900 -1100 CC range. Regardless I love the bike and would probably be happy with the XT, Yamaha quality makes it hard to dislike any of their bikes.
Thank you very much for the kind words! Hoping to do some more of these over the summer. If all goes well I will be reviewing a crf300 rally the minute it's in US dealers
Power is a funny thing.. I have 19 hp in the XT250 but no one knows it but me... Power is useful only when you can use it. Where we ride you simply can't use it all.. Torque is far more useful and that's where the XT250 shines..
I've owned both and the WR obviously has better suspension etc but that XT makes way better torque down low and the lower seat height is actually really nice . The WR is a better road bike for riding highway speeds though . In saying that I like them both equally and it comes down to personal preference .
I had a 1980 (?) xt250 when I lived in NM years ago. It was a great bike on the trails & state highways. But when I went up into the mountains, I had an awful time getting it started after I shut it off.
I have a 2022 xt250. I got an indicated 93mph going down a slight downgrade with a tailwind one time. It might have gone a little faster but it seemed like the engine was bumping up against the rev limiter. I have ridden the bike mostly on highways since I bought it. Riding at highway speeds reminds me of those old underpowered VW vans where you had to drive with your foot on the floor most of the time - on the XT you’ll have the throttle to the stop a lot, but the engine seems to shrug off the abuse, and the bike is quick enough that you won’t get run over. It’s not a WR by any means, but it’s an honest, tough little bike that will get you where you want to go.
Very well done. I've got about 500 miles seat time on my XT at this point as an off-road newbie, and nearly all my riding has been done with a father/son team who ride WRs. They've got way more experience than me and leave me in the dust all the time. I'm just happy to be able to ride the same trails they ride, and the XT gives me a lot of confidence with the low seat height and tractor-like gearing. I do think the WR would be a great step-up option for me, and I wish they were still being manufactured. Used ones are going for high dollars in my market, equal to or greater than the new price you're quoting here. If I had loads of cash and storage, I'd snatch one up just to grow into. As things stand, I'll keep enjoying my XT.
I owned a w.r. for years. Woods only. After de clogging it of epa junk I truly had a dirt bike that I thought was 2nd to none! Electric start, revved out and handled like a yz, handled like a dream with a kick stand to boot! But my legs got shorter as I aged so I had to let her go. I currently scoot around on a tw. Sure do miss that wr!
After job hunting for a year or so, I finally landed a good job just recently. I gotta balance priorities and all that, but a wr250r will certainly be in my garage hopefully within the year.
Have owned a XT250 and now own a XT225, The XT250 can do 65-70mph all day long, i put over 7k highway miles on mine, they're great quality bikes, the WRR has been known to have Fuel pump issues.
The issue was the pump located in the fuel tank would overheat when the tank was nearly empty. It affects only some 2008 models and is fixed for free by Yamaha. My 2008 never had the issue. Tbh it's not a very solid reason to avoid the WRR as a motorcycle model considering in all other aspects it has a strong reputation for reliability and low maintenance. It is far lower maintenance than the XT and longer lasting.
@@tosgem no doubt, its the best 250 by far, but the tall seat height was the deal breaker for me. My XT225 only weighs 238, its been great. The WRR has great re sell value too, its like the Toyota Tacoma of motorcycles. Lol
Nice review. I bought an Africa Twin and took it to places I probably shouldn't have. I continue to enjoy it as my touring bike, and have no problem on forest service roads, but if there is any chance for something even a bit more technical, then I go with the XT250. I've had so much fun on this little goat the past 2 seasons. I really like riding with confidence, knowing that is has a reasonable range (I do carry at 1L MSR bottle as well for extra insurance), is light enough to pickup (though I'm doing that less because it's so easy to handle in the ruff), super reliable and simple air cooled bike. I can load / unload with ease on my truck hitch carrier should I need to go long distances, but can carry 100Km/h with ease. The stock saddle is actually surprisingly comfy as well. I've also learned it's a hell of a lot more fun ringing the neck of a smaller lighter less powerful bike than riding tentative on a heavier more powerful machine. This review is fair and balanced - the suspension on the XT250 was not designed for high speed big hits, it's a "trail" bike that was originally influenced by a trials bike - and thus has a ridiculously good lock to lock turn. I've gotten out of some pretty steep and sticky situations with only a 2 point turn that would have have been impossible on many other machines.
Hey Sean, I really appreciate the feedback! My favorite thing about these little bikes is they will never limit where you can go, and sometimes a big bike does.
@@2wheelin Great reply. I plan to have a proper touring bike some day. But I'm also wanting to go with a hitch carrier for most road trip adventures. This really helps me dial in on the XT. Thanks!
@@2wheelin I agree. I have a KLR650 and it's a very heavy bike for a 130lb guy. I mostly ride the road with it and some forest roads that aren't too tricky. I'd sure hate to tip it over. It's a great alaska-to-argentina bike as long as it's paved and dirt roads.
in my situation I'm not comfortable at highway cruising with it because I feel like I'm really stressing the engine but a simple countershaft gear swap the front gear on the chain not the rear it performs beautifully on highway and soon I will know the difference just up one tooth and it's ready to cruise keep the other tooth and your adjustment tools at the ready and you're ready to go hit the trails not a big deal for such a swap on the fly all can fit in a little tack bag or a pouch
One advantage of the WR I will say is that it's liquid cooled so prolonged highway at the expense of stock drivetrain won't really favor the engine well in the long run
An easy answer to this is a XT350. I have been riding one of these for the last 3 years, mainly on fire roads and single tracks. It does really well most of the time. It can travel at 70 mph all day long if you want to but is nimble enough for a single track. My only complaint is that the suspension is a little soft for me, but I am 6’1” and about 250 lbs. The suspension might not be so bad for a lighter rider. The range is fantastic. Most of the time I am getting around 55 mpg. Just something else to consider.
I've always been intruiged by the 350. But, it's carbureted and generally older and harder to find parts for. That's hard to swallow. On top of that I rarely even see them for sale, so finding a good one (with a title too) is a bit of work. I'd love to test ride one and see what I think!
I don't have or plans to get either one (they're not available for me), but the XT really appeals to me and that round lights looks really nice. Might also just because I'm fond of the old enduro/trail body style akin to the original first Dakar winner bike, the XT-500 has, rather than the "hardcore dirt bike" body style that most modern light Dual Sport bikes have these days.
Hello Mate! great bike i am curious what kind of tires are you using since the X is more oriented for On Road, i am short so i wanted the lower x version.
I’ve ridden both. If you want to ride aggressively then the WR is your bike. If you want relaxed trail riding the XT is the way to go. Neither are good on paved roads for more than a few minutes to get to off road trails.
Amazing comparison video. My wife just bought the XT 250 2016. I rode it all weekend and actually love the bike, but I've never ridden a WR. I'm looking for a WR after watching this. Thanks for helping make the decision. Well Deserved sub from me
The xt250 will do literally anything with little skill. You put it in first and you can go 5 miles an hour up a near vertical hill climb. I love it. I originally bought it thinking that I was going to trade it when I could financially, but now I have no plans to trade it until someone puts out something new/better. I got a 2012 with the carb and have never had an issue with it like I have with every other carbureted bike I’ve had. Also the highway performance on dual sports in my experience are never as bad as people make it seem and neither is the suspension. This might just be because I have very little to compare it to.
The only bike I would consider is an XTrainer 300 but..... it's not a dual purpose, requires frequent maintenance and is a five figure bike. And I have no idea if you can go at less than walking speed and simply screw on the throttle without an issue.. I know you can with an XT250.
i am fortunate to currently own a 2014 xt250 and a 2018 wr250r used primarily around so fl at 6'0 height WITH 33 inch inseam is where the difference is noticeable i feel very cramped in my knees on the xt that is with a 1.2' Higher seat so 33 inch sh the wr ergonomics are perfect for me in both flat footing the ground with susp lag to the EXTRA 1 inch plus more room between PEGS and SEAT over the xt i enjoy them both xt cigarette runner around town at 25-50mph is her sweet spot wr more highway or 50-70mph use
Not sure what year these bikes are but the 20219 XT250 is now rated at 19Hp.. No idea where the small increase came from but its surprisingly quick in the woods.
Just bought my first bike this year and got a 2015 Xt250 and i love it i did have to change some stuff since i am 6'10" so ita kind of small but a great bike to start out
Rode a 225 last year and loved it though it felt cramped at times. I'm 6 feet. Just got a WR and can't wait to hit the trails after the snow.Great videos!
I've looked at both recently after someone mentioned the WR. Threee thousand dollars more at this time. The XT looks plenty peppy enough on videos where it wheelies with no problem. I think it comes down to being realistic with what you will do with a bike as the deciding factor. The XT looks good when compared t the TW 200 also. Enough suspension to smooth out urban roads and casual offroading. disk brakes front and rear. It would be interesting if Yamaha built an electric version of the XT. or added fat tires.
I am at a loss I am 65 years and been riding bikes for over 47 years and the one thing I have noticed mostly is in the 250 range of motorbikes specially the trail bikes as we used to call them in my days....not dual sports like today..... they seem to be losing horsepower in my day 250 four stroke air cool single could produce between 25 and 30 BHP a 125 today can reach that, a modern 125 in the UK is legal to 14 BHP other countries it is higher. that's an air cool four stroke and a 2021 Yamaha 250 can only produce 17.5 BHP with an engine twice its size it has only gained 3.5 BHP over a modern UK legal 125.. What is even stranger is that the 2011 Yamaha XT 250 could produce 29.5 BHP power......... So from 2011 to 2021 the XT 250 has lost 12 BHP......... the way this XT 250 is going a Honda 90 is going to be more powerful.............. I have a old 2009 XT 125 producing 9.65 BHP I have seen 64 MPH on it on the straight......... I love the XT 250 but in the UK for some strange reason Yamaha don't import it. and they have never given me a logical reason why.......first they try to use the emissions Euro five excuse.. but I wrote back and said well what happened when it was only Euro 3 and 4 you brought the YBR 250 into the UK in 2009 that has the same engine as the XT and I wrote and told Yamaha it would flop and it did because nobody in UK wanted a commuter they wanted the XT it was the same with the Yamaha SR 400 the made such a big deal about it having a kick start....I told them again it would flop and it did because people wanted the XT 400.....they never answered . The modern XT is let down totally by its pathetic horsepower......... the Yamaha XT 225 is going to be more powerful........... what the hell is going on with motorcycle manufacturers today ? comparison a 2012 Kawasaki 250 TR single cylinder air cool produced 25.5 BHP ... but a modern 2021 bike with the same engine configuration i.e. single cylinder 250cc air cool can only produce 17.5 BHP and I don't believe there excuse it's the emission laws.
has to do with emissions. while motorcycle aren't smogged in the states (yet), they still have to meet certain emissions requirements to be sold here. this robs power. plus detuning the engine tends to meet epa guidelines easier than adding smog equipment.
Well look at automobile manufacturers switching to direct injection and often turbocharging just to get adequate power on regular cars. The solution for a lot of these low end bikes is to just water them down.
hi there i bought a xt250 serow 2005 model import from japan to uk what hp are these i assumed 17hp ? previous owner maintains he got 81mph i havent tried it yet due to winter its the anniversary model so want to avoid salty roads here in scotland
Hey thanks for the feedback! I have one video on maintenance, but that's not much. ua-cam.com/video/zyxwUWraigY/v-deo.html What kind of maintenance would you like to see?
You have it pretty much on the nose... I chose the XT250 because of the seat height and price. A 14T front sprocket made a huge difference and up that slight grade you mentioned with the XT would have been far easier while sacrificing little if any top speed. More rpms for sure but surprisingly little vibration for a thumper. Suspension for a better rider is the shortcoming on the XT.. An average rider may not notice it much and after all, that's who this bike was geared for. For a few bucks and a few hours of your time you can get it acceptable for a better rider. With the same seat height and price I would have gone the WR route but........
What’s better off road the xt250 or the TW 200 just wondering ? They both sound about the same except for the tires and of course the xt is a 250 . I’m thinking one of those 2 for me. I want which ever is better off road. I’m only going to be on the streets just to get to the trails
The xt250 is, in my opinion, better both on and off road. The TW is meant for very slow speeds, climbing, and doesn't have a ton of suspension. The XT is more versatile, more modern, and more powerful.
Those are Happy trails racks with the supplied givi cases. That's one of the few xt specific adventure mods out there and a must for any serious adv bike. They work great!
There’s a ton of universal dual sport add ons people put on the xt250. You can buy bags to put everywhere on it if you want. (Tail bag, front fender bag , side bags. Tank bag)
@@nephilymbass1 Yep, I've got a tail rack and tail bag, hard saddle bags, windshields, hand guards, tank bag, adventure mirrors, etc. Now I'll probably sell it. Looking for a good electric bike.
About the same as the 250. I'd say the xt225 is even less comfortable on the road than the xt250, but feels at home on dirt. Still about the same feel though.
Personally, I used to have a 225 and I really enjoy the upgrade to a wr. Fuel injection is fantastic, and the bike is more capable all around. That said, if you like your xt and it does all you need then just keep riding it!
The WOR is a better dirtbike a little more power though it’s heavier it still has a higher power to weight ratio. He’s got better suspension and it’s a dirt bike with turn signals on it, I’ll take the XT all day long though because it’s comfortable and simple but I’m not gonna jump or race it’s just more of a true dual sport to where the WR is a dirtbike with enough to barely make it street legal but TXT is better on the street it’s a A whole lot more comfortable and it’s just easy to get on your go you’re right around you can do the trails you can do the street and you’re good. And if that’s what you’re doing next is the better choice but if you’re really into the dirt I’m gonna be riding dirt trails and wanting to jump and go faster the WR is a better machine they’re just very different. My biggest problem is there are no metal range bikes you have a calyx and a CRF 300 which aren’t a whole lot more power than the 250 they’re both very uncomfortable kind of like the WR and that’s kind of it from there you go to the DRC 400 which again is very uncomfortable and more like a dirt bike and I don’t know why they cut it from the six speed to a five speed when they went to the 400 over the DR 350 but they made it uncomfortable and you have to get up and do a 650 like an XR 650 or a DR 650 before you get a decent comfortable simple machine again. The CRF are cool but I don’t want to rebuild my bike every 20,000 miles and tune it all the time and take the bike half apart to get to the engine to adjust valves. The XT is awesome they just need to bring back the XT 350 or a 400 or an XR L. The midsize XL 350 XT 350 even the DR 350 were loved and people ride them forever and they’re still hard to get and commanding a pretty high price. I really like the XT 250 but I weigh 256 pounds so it works it’ll get me around I can have fun but when I’ve got a steep hill or I’m trying to pull through some sand It’s hurting for power come on the old XT 350s were pretty awesome, give me a 1984 Honda XL 350 with an electric start upgrade and I’m good, throw a rear disc and a very simple basic fuel injection and I’m awesome but even with that weird double carburetor I’m good with it. His old 350s had all day Willy power he just twisted the throttle you could do your wheelies but it wasn’t crazy power it was very manageable they were fun they were easy they can do 100,000 miles if you keep your maintenance up he can work on them yourself they’re tough simple and easy and not amazing performance but Great performance. I drove an 85XL 600 and I loved it but it was a handful and you had to be careful you couldn’t just go out there in for around then nail the throttle like you could on a 350 or a 250 and it was a little heavier which made it harder to pick up but it was still an amazing bike. The XR 650 L is basically the same thing with a little taller suspension and a couple of little updates, I would love to see an XR 400 L maybe even do you like Suzuki does on their DR 650 where you can flip part of the rear suspension and push the bars up a little and you can drop that thing a couple of inches to lower your seat height or flip it back and have the clearance for off-road. I’m just getting older and I want something a little more easy I don’t wanna be lugging up the hills and scrambling and pushing up with my legs like a 250 and a 350s enough to do that you can do the wheelies you can get through the sand and it’s good and it’s still fairly light and isn’t going to win races but it’s awesome. Where are those made range bikes on these comfortable easy models. These XTs sell out all the time BTW sell out all the time the XR 650 L sells out all the time and the resale on them is very high, you could probably buy a used XR 650 L or an XT 250 drive it for a few months to round and sell it and lose almost nothing if you keep it clean and don’t trash it because people want them. Go buy a WR 450 drive that around for five months and see how much you get for it you’re not gonna get that whole $11,000 back. It’s been seven on an XR 650 L and you get pretty close to that buy used one that’s six years old and it’s the exact same bike pretty much drive it for six months and sell it and you might even make some money. In 40 years people big find these in garage is cleaning out the carburetors cleaning them up and driving them around and selling them for a lot, nobody’s gonna want to fix a CRF 300 or KLX or any of them with a computer, rats chew through some why are you cut it through a butt connector on there and you’re good for another 50,000 miles, computer is going to cost you three grand to fix. And a lot of those bikes the rebuild interval is ridiculous, the WR 450 is 20,000 miles I believe, I met a guy who has a 1985 Honda XL 600 with 140,000 miles on it still looks and runs great and he can still get parts for it pull it apart before the cylinder over put a new piston and rings Maybe some bearings in the engine if they’re worn out a new timing chain and it’s ready to go for another 60,000 miles. Good luck on the newer bikes with all the electronics. That’s what I’m gonna buy an XT 250 F I have to choose one of these today. I really like the DRC but it’s uncomfortable uncomfortable riding position I got to make a bunch of changes on it by ridiculously expensive sheet it’s still not gonna be that comfortable, the 86XL 650 C was awesome nice cushy I can ride around for four hours and be fine, the XT is comfortable the TW is comfortable but we have no mid range options in the comfortable simple bikes. I think part of the reason there isn’t an option for these is because they wouldn’t be selling the high tech models that are $3000 more except to the small percentage of people that are actually gonna go out there and race them I want a motocross bike, most people just want a fun street legal bike that does good all the way around come a good play bike that simple easy to maintain yourself will go forever as long as you change the oil clean the air filter and adjust the valves every couple years you’ve got a bike that will last decades with little or no repair. That alone to me is worth a little decrease in performance. Just bring back the XT 350 or do a 400 please😂
I owned a 2000 XT225 and now own a 2015 XT250 I bought new. The 2000 XT225 always needed to be tipped over to get fuel in the carb to start it if it wasn't rode in a week or more. Never had a problem with either beside that.
Yes tipped over on the left side for about five seconds and then stood back up. After that it would start once the fuel went into wherever it needs to go I’m no mechanic. The guy I bought the bike from told me to do that he said it was a common issue with those ears
@@2wheelin Actually, the turning radius is quite comparable to trials bikes. The XT250 would probably do well against other dual sports in a trials setting, in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Of course if you are talking about competing with trials bikes then that's another story. If that's the case you might want to motocross it as well... with equally disastrous results. LOL
You under sold the XT250, it is more capable than this video states, but some points are valid. My 2012 XT250 does 125 km/hrs flat out, on level ground, I weigh 157lbs, (heavier riders I'm sure would be slower), holding the bike at around 90kms on the hwy for long distances does not tax the engine, and 90km/hrs in the slow lane is fast enough not to slow traffic on most hwys, and stability is acceptable at that rate of speed, however keeping up to traffic at 110kms or faster is almost the bike's limit and will be too hard on the small motor, it won't last long, and might overheat, also the bike becomes very sketchy to handle safely at that rate. Yes not a hwy bike, but can absolutely do hwy if needed. Mine has 15,000km and is flawless. Light trails no problem, heavy trails, slow down a bit and the bike will stay together, just fine.
I had a 2004 TW200, and the XT225 is what the TW grows up to be. So now I have a 2001 XT225, rated about 20hp and has that sweet 6 speed trans. Then they come out with the XT250, they loose 6th gear, loose 2HP and gain weight? I can not see the XT250 as being a better bike that the XT225. I just Bought a 2017 WR250R, gonna lower it as much as I can, make it a bike XT225 would grow up to be. What you think? The damn thing is TALL!
Having owned both , i still have the xt and sold the wr . The xt is simple to work on , air cooled , no oil cooler , easy to adjust the valves , no shims etc . Does 60 mph all day long , no premium gas , fast enough off road and easy to handle . A great bike
It's a nice bike, but I look like I'm riding a mini bike when I sit on one. Wr for me lol.
I ride TWs, though, so I’m insane and shouldn’t be listened to anyway, haha!

wats up buddy i have the WR in vegas and let me tell you, its niiiiiiiice.
Bought a used one last week. been having a lot of fun with it! hopefully will have some riding videos soon!
It’s fun to lean on the XT250. Haven’t scraped pegs yet. 11.2 gap helps.
My 2018 xt250 will do full throttle hyway all day long and feels like it could do it forever. Max 142kph down hills. 130kph on the flats.
2018 XT should have newer engine with 20 hp (That's 12% more powerful than the old!)
As things stand, I'll keep enjoying my XT.
i owned 2012 xt250! cant go wrong with that bike!

The XT 250 will easily cruise at 65 to 70 mph with a top speed of 78. Seat height is 31.9 inches. It has 1/2 gallon more fuel also.
in my situation I'm not comfortable at highway cruising with it because I feel like I'm really stressing the engine but a simple countershaft gear swap the front gear on the chain not the rear it performs beautifully on highway and soon I will know the difference just up one tooth and it's ready to cruise keep the other tooth and your adjustment tools at the ready and you're ready to go hit the trails not a big deal for such a swap on the fly all can fit in a little tack bag or a pouch
One advantage of the WR I will say is that it's liquid cooled so prolonged highway at the expense of stock drivetrain won't really favor the engine well in the long run
More oil changes..
I own the 2021 XT 250 Yamaha it's a very nice bike and I look forward to my enhanced drivetrain for highway driving
There is nothing like having your bike engine feel like it's doing 45 when you're really doing 55
WR250r is a dirt bike made street legal. XT250 is built to be a dual sport with a sunken seat and is a little bit less capable offroad.
@Jon Cornell msrp is on screen at 0:40
I don't have or plans to get either one (they're not available for me), but the XT really appeals to me and that round lights looks really nice. Might also just because I'm fond of the old enduro/trail body style akin to the original first Dakar winner bike, the XT-500 has, rather than the "hardcore dirt bike" body style that most modern light Dual Sport bikes have these days.
I have 2008 WR250X which is a factory super moto. I have 60% off road and 40% on road tires. Loving this bike. Awesome video, great content.

I’ve ridden both. If you want to ride aggressively then the WR is your bike. If you want relaxed trail riding the XT is the way to go. Neither are good on paved roads for more than a few minutes to get to off road trails.
They're great on paved roads! They just suck going really fast
Amazing comparison video. My wife just bought the XT 250 2016. I rode it all weekend and actually love the bike, but I've never ridden a WR. I'm looking for a WR after watching this. Thanks for helping make the decision. Well Deserved sub from me

Have a TTR 225 and I just got an XT 250. LOVE them both. The 250 is super smooth on the roads. I wasn't expecting that
@@AJ7- Actually the Kawasaki KLR650 might be the most popular adventure bike every built.
Thanks time travel. Nice to know Yamaha is still going for another 18,000 years.
Just bought my first bike this year and got a 2015 Xt250 and i love it i did have to change some stuff since i am 6'10" so ita kind of small but a great bike to start out
Congrats!
Holy crap, at 6'10 you could probably just run everywhere faster than a motorbike! 😂
Ii8iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Which would you prefer for motocamping?
I have an 01 xt225. It has 6 gears. Why would they remove a gear. It is so useful.. ?
Cool thanks, I just got the XT 250
You have it pretty much on the nose... I chose the XT250 because of the seat height and price. A 14T front sprocket made a huge difference and up that slight grade you mentioned with the XT would have been far easier while sacrificing little if any top speed. More rpms for sure but surprisingly little vibration for a thumper. Suspension for a better rider is the shortcoming on the XT.. An average rider may not notice it much and after all, that's who this bike was geared for. For a few bucks and a few hours of your time you can get it acceptable for a better rider. With the same seat height and price I would have gone the WR route but........
Now im riding 40hp lanza will it leave me unsatisfied if i buy xt 250x
What’s better off road the xt250 or the TW 200 just wondering ? They both sound about the same except for the tires and of course the xt is a 250 . I’m thinking one of those 2 for me. I want which ever is better off road. I’m only going to be on the streets just to get to the trails
The xt250 is, in my opinion, better both on and off road. The TW is meant for very slow speeds, climbing, and doesn't have a ton of suspension. The XT is more versatile, more modern, and more powerful.
@@2wheelin thank you

Those are Happy trails racks with the supplied givi cases. That's one of the few xt specific adventure mods out there and a must for any serious adv bike. They work great!
@@2wheelin thanks
I guess it depends on what options you want. Plenty of them for the XT.. Performance mods not so much.
There’s a ton of universal dual sport add ons people put on the xt250. You can buy bags to put everywhere on it if you want. (Tail bag, front fender bag , side bags. Tank bag)

What kind of horn you gots on that xt250
That's a pretty common style. I got it on eBay, and it's usually marketed for sports cars. They're on tons of Subarus.
My feet cant touch the ground at all on the WR so that settles it for me. Even better is multiple bikes, a street bike and a dirt bike.
I thought the same thing, but it squats a lot when you sit on it and they make lowering links
what's the cruise speed of XT 250
I'd say it feels comfortable at 60mph. It'll go faster but it's very happy at 60.
What website were you browsing for parts at?
Rockymountainatvmc.com is my go to place!
How does your WRR compare to your previous XT225?
About the same as the 250. I'd say the xt225 is even less comfortable on the road than the xt250, but feels at home on dirt. Still about the same feel though.
I have a 225. Just wondering if the WRR is a worthy upgrade
Personally, I used to have a 225 and I really enjoy the upgrade to a wr. Fuel injection is fantastic, and the bike is more capable all around.
That said, if you like your xt and it does all you need then just keep riding it!
I heard park police often use the xt250.
OY! I still don't know which one to get.
extra points for the XT looking better. Im not a fan of those WR banana seats
I owned a 2000 XT225 and now own a 2015 XT250 I bought new. The 2000 XT225 always needed to be tipped over to get fuel in the carb to start it if it wasn't rode in a week or more. Never had a problem with either beside that.
Tipped over on the right or left side, or lift the back wheel up?
Yes tipped over on the left side for about five seconds and then stood back up. After that it would start once the fuel went into wherever it needs to go I’m no mechanic. The guy I bought the bike from told me to do that he said it was a common issue with those ears

@@2wheelin Actually, the turning radius is quite comparable to trials bikes. The XT250 would probably do well against other dual sports in a trials setting, in fact you'd be hard pressed to find a better one. Light trails no problem, heavy trails, slow down a bit and the bike will stay together, just fine.
you shouldve used another color for the specs. nobody sees the writing

WR is more "bah bah bap"
18 year old me would take the WR, 28 year old me would take the XT.
The xc is junk compared to a wr250r
Cool opinion, but he's talking about the XT.
I have a 1998 Yamaha Xt 250, do you know of any bodysuit for her that doesn't make her look so old anymore?
