    This is a more technical video on the irrigation system that I recently installed in my food forest. I am really happy how it turned out , after spending a lot of time with researching and planning . I hope there is some helpful information for anyone who is planning to build an irrigation .

    I made a mistake of the garden size conversion into acres - the garden is about 0.19 acres big (800m2)

    I cannot imagine how one girl can maintain a garden of this big. I could not maintain a 1000 sqft organic garden, every time getting tired with the weeds. Dear angel you have created a piece of heaven. May God bless you.

    Hi Saraha excellent, very informative video and for me it came just in time as right now I am in a process of building a irrigation system in my garden.
    And now after visiting your garden with ‘Krishna’ in October I can very well visualise your irrigation system
    Thanks , and please keep posting progress of you garden

    Hello dear! I was wondering before about your irrigation, as i watched almost all your videos. But seems i missed this one. So now i have a couple of questions to you!!! 😍
    First of all, great work!
    1) What fills up the tank? Source is government water, or you collect rain water, spring ? What do you do when tank is empty, if ever...
    2) Can you please put the list of names of those main devices in the shed: computer, filters (sizes), switches etc, and names of those sprinkles that flow the water. Everything xcept pipes :)
    3) how many meters of pipes is approximately in zone 1 or 2?
    3) what was approximate cost of setting everything in the shed. Though cost will vary here in mexico, but it's ok.
    4) if you happened to observe, did you notice that some plants were getting less water than others? Maybe they show it in fading o coloring..
    5) is vertical part of the tube is the same as the pipe that runs under the ground? Who veritxally stable is it? We get hurricanes and strong winds here sometimes. So i wonder what i need to make it hold.
    I am preparing myself to manage a 3 hectare land, and start from scratch. So this video is really precious, as i am looking into different ways of sourcing and storing water.
    6) does area right under the fountain get watering as well? Or does it stay dray? It seems that the water splashes all around, so i wonder what about the area at the foot of the stand.
    About your system, i like that despite you have to put effort in the beginning, it's really easy management after. Just turn it on and check its all running.
    Right now i am doing almost manually, or hose 😂😂
    I think i will have to add dripping-system as well for some of plants, as i also love growing ornamental and medicinal herbs, that might need to be grown in beds. We LL see
    ❤️

    hi sarah am living in africa tanzania can it be done also this area it has been inspired me much give a sarting point so that i can start i have 3/4 acre if i can manage to do that the problem is water haw can i have water to sustain it thanks as you going to answer me

    Hi dear ❤️ i have researched on your equipment a bit and now half of my previously asked questions are answered :) i learned that your water pump is produced in India, so i am looking for similar here in mexico, this easy to find.
    I also found the blue bird set for sifferente zones. And the only question here would be, did you choose quantity of sprinkles per one solenoid valve? Or did you choose quantity that was recommended. Mainly, what is the capacity of sprinkles for one valve.
    Can't wait to build this. But i will have a bit different system in the green house.
    Much love

    instead of burying the piping in the ground wouldn't it have been better to use flexible pvc pipe running on the ground?

    • @MyFoodForest
      @MyFoodForest  2 роки тому +6

      Yes, that would have been definitely less work, but I had my experience with having them on the ground - after a short time they will be buried superficially under the soil and easily get damaged when working in the garden.
      Also all my beds and trenches are not permanent - the soil and beds and all is constantly in movement- where there is a trench today there will be a bed after a while and I will grow in the trenches . I try to put as much organic matter into the soil as I can , to build the soil , actually to grow soil. With this irrigation I can do that without having to remover the pipes each time to digg the new trenches and make new beds.

    Hi there, thank you very much for sharing this. It's quite insightful. Love it! 😁 looks like we have to design a system ourselves based on the ground conditions here as we have slopes as well as part flatland. . Sprinkle looks promising to cover decent size areas. 👍 Many Thanks 🙏

    Why is the carbon content so low in the open soil?

  • @fleurpoo
    @fleurpoo 2 роки тому

    Thanks Sarah for all your videos. I was wondering if sprinklers are efficient and if you don't waste water in the air. Why do you choose this option compared to a system on the ground? Is it because you move the beds and thus that top ground system won't be useful while changing the set up of your garden?

    • @MyFoodForest
      @MyFoodForest  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, this was the main reason for sprinklers- like that my garden can grow wild and change its shape. Also I work with lots of mulch and I feel that it would block if I had a system on the ground. The sprinklers work really well and I do not think there is a lot of water evaporation. Still I feel nothing is as effective as giving water with a pipe by hand which is what I did for many years but now it would take me too much time. I think in the future I will need different systems in my garden, for it to work the most effective it will be a combination of watering by hand , sprinklers and drip..

    How much is the power Bill is coming for this supply.
    How much power consumption it's taking per unit and the no of sprinklers covered per unit.

      I explain in the video all the details, There are 2 times 12 sprinklers . I let them run for 10 min tree times a day -that makes an hour - so its 2.7 rupees a day!

    I can see not much weeds in your farm. How do you control / manage weeds??

    • @Adnancorner
      @Adnancorner 2 роки тому +2

      there is not such thing as weed. every plant is doing its job. if there is a cover crop there is no weed. The only thing i found in auroville difficult to understand is people against wood chipping... the more fungal the soil the higher the concentration of trees..less number of termite attacks on wood products..
      but people dont understand it there. They just simple plant without giving a thought and most of the times the tree need to artificially irrigated just to survive..

    • @MyFoodForest
      @MyFoodForest  2 роки тому +2

      I try to keep the soil covered as much as possible. Ether with dried mulch or a ground cover that acts as a living mulch.
      This saves a lot of water as well. The area where I planted the fruit trees was totally covered with sweet potatoes an I just recently removed them to plant watermelons , pumpkins and cucumbers.

    • @MyFoodForest
      @MyFoodForest  2 роки тому +2

      @@Adnancorner I agree weeds are great to have in the garden. And if you get to know them then it gets interesting. There are so many edible weeds that I started to use daily in my diet!
      I prefer to use organic matter from my garden than bringing in loads of wood chips from outside. I think a living ground cover is the best. After having this area covered with sweet potato I now grow watermelons ,pumpkins and cucumbers...
