S.O.S. Emergency Food Ration Review & Taste Test

- I've had this SOS emergency food bar in my bag for a few years and I decided to try it out before it expires. Apparently this package of bars would provide enough calories for a person to survive for three days. As dry and crumbly as it is, I might be just as likely to choke to death on it as I am to survive on it.

It’s meant to keep you alive... calories for survival , not enjoyment
These bars are insurance.
I own some, and I hope to never actually eat one.
Thats why Ive been telling people to try several brands, live on each for at least 3 days and then see how you feel. Recover with normal diet 3 days and try the next brand. That will tell you which one you should be stocking.
Still have energy for labor like hiking? got headaches? feeling normal?
Ok karen
@@ExploreAnywhere Not Karen, just stating facts.
These are very much the option of last resort. If you have access to any other food use that instead. Also these are not designed for long term use which may cause serious health issues.
They taste better than many grocery store energy bars. The dried coconut flavor comes through just enough. A very good product to have in vehicles for use in the field.
I would bring oatmeal and add these bar to it, so you can get bulk and calories with the meal. Other than that starvation is the best spice and makes everything taist better.
That is 100% correct. After 2-3 days no food you'd eat dang near anything with pleasure lol
Survival food gives you the taste of survival. Keep you alive, plain and simple.
add a "fast food" jelly and/or honey packet or two per cookie.
They're safe for longer than what they say. The date is your typical "for best taste, eat before or on this date".
How much longer?
@@yuiopoli9601 maybe 20 years, they wont go bad, they just wont taste well.
They also put an expiration with the idea that these will be used in awful conditions. Think 120 degree heat inside of a backpack. Sitting in your pantry these will last much longer.
It's common that on such mre things they don't put expiration date but manufacture date and "next inspection" date, if it's stored in hot place it will degrade soon but if you fridge it then it should last years
your evaluation taken with a grain of salt. you said near expiration. should it still taste good? can you live on it if needed? remember the intended purpose!!!
I personally prefer bland and/or sweet food, so these bars actually sound perfect for my palate. Dense, dry, greasy shortbread cookies with a hint of lemon peel? Yes, please!
I used to sell these to people calling to order food storage. I only recommend them to households with teenagers. They tend to need considerably higher amounts of calories per day, especially boys aged 11-19.
it is basically a short bread cookie. the excessive oil is where the calories come from. the word you seemed to be looking for is "mild flavored".
It’s a high calorie emergency food bar. I bet if you’re starving or death, you will find this biscuit to be god damn delicious until you can figure out what’s the next thing to eat.
I actually really appreciate the link, it was super interesting
I've a batch that expire in May 21; been eating for breakfast. Not as bad as one might think.
*Paimon?*
EHE YE NANDAYO
Maybe eat them with tea
I’ve been eating the ones my college gave me as they expire soon.. it’s just a very dense sugary short bread cookie. I kinda like it tbh and def will be glad to have them in case of an emergency!
It makes sense that these fortified vitamin cookies are oily. It's because not all vitamins, minerals, nutrients are water soluble. Some of these are fat soluble, so you need a fat or oil for your body to properly absorb and digest them. 😉
I got 6 "expired" packages since 2014, they're all still perfectly sealed
Have you eaten any of them since. My thought is similar to canned food, if it’s seal is in tact then it’s probably safe.
@@visamedic I too want to know the answer to your question.
I've watched a lot of Townsends.
I'd say if you have a metal canteen cup in your ruck, consider putting a couple cups of water in it, heating, and adding the bar.
I haven't tried this yet, but Townsends has shown what they did in 19th century with hardtack, pemmican, etc. Basically above.
I'm in land o' curds n cranberries and picked up a couple of these (2x for ruck, 1x for 3day bag) just for the dense caloric intake.
My packs (as I can stand to lose some #s) is light on food, but lot of beverage items:
- 2-3x MRE fruit punch mixes, or other commercial ones
- enough dry coffee for 3cups/day
- 2x MRE choc bev drinks
- couple packs of metamucil (just in case needed)
Optionals (depending on how long and time of year):
- small PB jar w/ matcha green tea, choc powder, and a protein powder mixed in
- More spam pouches (280cal in 3oz is light), so maybe 2x more
- protein bars (usually the most calorie dense ones I can find)
What are those that you found better?
this video is only tolerable if watched at 1.5x speed
they look like fire starters....
Thanks for the review im planning to order some emergency food soon cause the world has gone crazy!
This kind of thing really impresses me a lot, it's a good idea friends
Are they nutritionally balanced? I wonder if you can use them like you would Mountain House or Wise. I would think it is easier than the others since these don't have to be prepared and since I am lactose intolerant, they are more diet friendly compared to all the cheesy dishes or powdered milk.
A. Null Lou Bricant
I agree
millenial bars have nutrition. big survhave tons but dont last long as they have zero preservatives.
Im thinking about making my own with powdered nut butters, chorella, spirulina, honey, coconut butter andvsmall seeds and grains. The question is what combos taste good, and how much honey and rice syrup to paste them up but still dry fairly hard..
@@tbrew8222 I guess that would be similar to that tack bread they had during the civil war. They say those never expire but I doubt they were nutritionally balanced.
Mine has absolutely no lemon flavor
They taste like sugary, dry fig bar pastries. Not great but not terrible by any means.
I have some of them i have eaten several They are sweet and I find them quiet good👍🏻
I just ordered a box. They feel very dense through the packaging. I kinda Want to try one but don't want to break the seal.
Keep a small jar of peanut butter. That's an easy survival option
Well Duh it is supposed to keep you alive not be a gourmet meal, I was in the military try eating the MRE' some of them are nasty
It will taste a lot better when you are starving.
I wonder if they would be a little easier to eat if you dunked them into some type of liquid such as tea? But hey, Lena licked her lips!
This guy experimented with ration bars into porridge. ua-cam.com/video/LZPcBbB6mJs/v-deo.html
Anything tastes good if there are no choices. Hey honey, want some cooked rat tonight. Oh and tasty candy bar isn’t lasting long.
There ok nothing else to eat sure but I think the hamburger in the can will be eaten before I dig in to the sos bars
is it vegan?
Awesome video
I'm thinking of buying tons of these and storing them in some 40mm ammo cans.
I wouldn’t. I’d store mountain house food. This are disgusting after one bar. The bars are a backup to your backup.
As the bar crumbles it’s going to loosen the package
Got mine last year and they are still vacuum tight. I opened one the day i got them and they tasted pretty good, a year later and i was aching for something sweet lol so i figure its been a year so i opened another one and it tasted as good as the first one i opened i have 18 left and i will make sure i eat them all before they expired. What i find weird is that yours seems to have different shades of color unlike mine they all looked white like the one you ate.
will its not beef stew
Beef stew MRE is definitely one of the best survival foods.
Eat them with coffee!
Hope it was a joke comment. But for those who don’t know, coffee and emergency bars will make you sick. Not a good combination.
@@Mike_Hawk1 guess I’ll have to try it myself cuz lots of reviews say the combination can make you sick. Looks like a myth ready to be busted
Off gassing
Learn your food
What do you mean?
@@GreatLakesPrepping don't know
@@GreatLakesPrepping He means teach your food.... Teach your pet dog to do tricks like jumping through hoops before SHTF and you have to kill it and eat it. That way it gives you both entertainment and calories.
@@dcez1370 When I started this channel, I never would have imagined how many times I'd have to say the words "I"m not gonna eat my dog" :P
@@GreatLakesPrepping It may sound strange to Westerners but dog meat is actually the traditional national dish of Korea.
No way .
Get some thing with teast . If it's the end of the world . Fo with flavor
It's NOT grease! Grease is a thick lubricant like axel grease.
Terrible review! You do not know how to do a food review.
Taste Test? You didn't even really describe the taste! Lemony??? It says coconut right on the package...
I apologize that my video did not meet your standards. Please share the SOS Emergency Food Ration review video that you have made so that I may learn from it and hope to improve.

You do realize that 'grease' has multiple definitions? One of the definitions being oil or fat used or produced in cooking. The third ingredient in this product is palm oil. Fuck are you whining about?
