4Kids love or hate em were pretty iconic in some regards. Thankful they got me into One Piece so early! Loved this game so much Kuro, Vivi, Crocodile Mihawk, & Eneru's were my favorites when I played this on GameCube !!
@@NewLegendXxX Oh yes I remember you can literally spam that El Thor (Volt Bolt by 4Kids' terms) with him, and it can break the game in half as long as you aren't too close or if your opponent knows the trick.
Okay, but, I love the way this game handles super attacks like this, ya know? I like how theres build up to what is typically an end-of-the-match attack in any form of fighting game, and theres a shot to avoid it for the enemy. I also like how theres even a failure clip that plays for added amusement if the enemy chooses the right option. Better yet, special ending cinematics if you actually finish the enemy off with the super attack, making it worthwhile to wait a bit longer to lower the enemy's HP enough just for that! I just...find it satisfying either way :)
Honestly speaking, to me it wasn't just the censoring, it was the voice direction. Some of these characters are downright screeching doing their voice lines or doing them like they have a monotone.
@@Tatsuoshinada12 yeah, his voice sucked but i liked the accent, i liked most of the accents they did and some of the voice effects(like arlong, he sounded less human and i liked it)
I used to love this game so much, it actually got me into watching the show. I'm noticing some stuff wasn't censored in the game, like the Japanese text on the back bon clays coat, don kreig's pistols that he pulls out (in the 4kids dub they were green), and it looks like Smoker (sorry, chaser) has his cigars on part of his jacket.
4kids really didnt want to put all those censors in. They wanted to make Uncut One Piece dvds. Its just that the difficulty of making merchandise for a plot heavy show like One Piece (compared to legends like Pokemon or YuGiOh) and the extremely stern TV guidelines to make a more pg show like One Piece ok for Saturday Mornings completely screwed them over, and basically became for 4kids what ET the Videogame was for Atari: A huge target for criticism that became the scapegoat for a company's controversial downfall.
Love or hate 4Kids, this game and One Piece: Grand Battle struck my nostalgia and gave birth to my love for One Piece! I've played both of these games tons upon tons when I had them, enjoying all the charm that they had to offer! One feature I wish Grand Adventure kept was the "System Voice" setting from Grand Battle, where you could unlock other system voices for other characters when battles start to give things more flavor. Outside of that, I really love both games! And funnily enough, some 4Kids voices are ironically more fitting for some characters, like Marc Thompson as Don Krieg! He really nails that gruff tone for someone that relies on overwhelming strength and immeasurable power.
Just beat Luffys story, but there’s still a few maps left plus the other characters stories too! I’m gettin all the characters fasho this is gonna be my new fighting game!
I like the 4kids voices more than the funimation voices. I've always believed this and I feel like its a shame funimation couldn't hire some of the same voice actors for their dub
Man I loved this game, even the voices were not as bad as the horrible 4kids dub on TV. But this would be great with Funimation VA's and modern characters!
So, from what I'm seeing here. The only character to make it from the Japanese version of One Piece: Grand Battle (Grand Battle Rush) to Grand Adventure (English release) was Enel. I'm guessing by the time Grand Adventure was out, the anime in its 4Kids dub must not have reached the arcs that Foxy and Aokiji (Who were playable in the Japanese version of Grand Battle Rush) appeared in. Maybe someone can fill me in a bit on this. My only exposure to One Piece was playing the Americanized version of Grand Battle Rush which had the 4Kids dubbed actors. I played a crap ton of the game as a kid and pretty much unlocked everything from it. But that was pretty much all I have to go in in terms of the anime. Seeing what One Piece is now, it seems a got a TON of catching up to do ^^! Also, seeing the gameplay here for the game, it looks pulled straight from Grand Battle, so they probably didn't have to do much in terms of making too many new assets. In fact, the new characters final moves lack that oomph that the others do, so it was probably rushed to meet a deadline.
Yea, the game was an English only sequel to grand battle released exclusively for North America, Europe, Australia and Korea. The 4kids dub ended when the ship fell from the sky so it's a weird that they added Enel.
So I don't know if anyone has noticed this- but when Ohm used his Observation Haki he called it Mantra- It really does make me wonder what they would've done with Haki if they got that far.
I think the memory of Vivi using 14 peacock slashers at the same time in the most made up attack I’ve ever seen is a memory that I will never forget for the rest of my life.
The Usopp Pound secret attack…normally when you win with it you get Usopp spinning the hammer & saying “Captain Usopp!” but how do you get the hammer to break in the victory is it just random or do you have to do something for it to happen?
Many great memories with this game, but holy crap are the voices dreadfully bad. Only a select few even fit the character, and even fewer still are well-acted. Zoro is certainly the standout. Marc Deraison is a legitimately good actor and lends a lot of credibility to Zoro, especially in this sea of awful costars. Luffy, Ace, and Bon Clay are at least appropriate, but it sounds like they were recorded in different booths. Ace is mixed too quietly, which is emphasized further by his loud antics as "Fire Fist" Ace. There are so many issues that I could go on, but I won't. I had a lot of fun with this growing up, even though I had no idea who the characters from Skypeia were lol.
i actually like it, but 4kids dub made me dislike some of the funimation voices, like zolo, robin, arlong, wapol, chopper(kind of, i liked they made his heavy point have a deeper voice), i like sanji's accent(but not the voice), buggy also sounded better

I love how 4kids workaround for Mr 2 being so fruity was to make him as Texan as possible.
HERE I COME TIPTOE KICK
I wouldn't say Texan, I'd say they gave him a bit of an ebonic accent. And I honestly love it.

Makes me wonder how 4kids wouldve mangled the definition of Haki.
Oh god, the memories... they're coming back....

4kids: let's censor all the guns in the anime, that's too violent

Silver lining: This proves 4kids could make a decent dub if they werent censored all to hell.

sanjis voice tho

I still get a kick out of Bon Clay's secret attack, all these years later.
I ain't gonna lie, maybe because I grew up with these voices, I prefer this to the Funimation ones for most, ESPECIALLY ZORO
Zoro, Usopp, Buggy, Kuro, Zeff, Mr. 2, Wapol, and Arlong have great 4kids voices.
