Do you have any sheet music in front of you? I've been transcribing some Jamerson note-by-note and it seems impossible to actually remember it all, I guess I would if I spent weeks on each track but that doesn't seem too efficient, I might as well be transcribing new tracks. In terms of complexity (and FUNK), this is very Jamerson-esque, so I was wondering if you were writing it down and reading while performing.
Yes, on a screen. Studying by heart is better (I tend to remember music longer that way) but the muscle memory is at least as important to me. Do you know the “Standing in the shadows of Motown” book? Super interesting Jamerson stuff
@@HerwigScheck Yeah, my dad told me about Standing in the Shadows of Motown but I'm not really a book guy (y'know, Gen Z). I'll look into it though. Other than that, do you mean you usually memorize the music you transcribe so that it'll really stick in your muscle memory? Like, if you remember every single note it actually affects the your playing more in the long run (you remember licks and patterns more etc.)?
@@gailukatch402 when I was in music college I used to memorize everything. I van still (almost 20 years later) play those transcriptions. The stuff I write down & read tends to "stick" less. I should re-check the Daft Punk "Giorgo by Moroder" to see how much I can remember or how fast that comes back. Hope this helps ;-)
I miss Sam Wilkes in new songs of Scary Pockets. New bassist is great but Sam is insane, he's from other world
This is master class...representation of the original. Hot damn, dude. So glad glad I found it.
Great transcription thanks for posting, and great playing on this track! I absolutely LOVE Sam Wilkes's bass playing.
Effortlessly RAW! I LOVE IT!
Bloody great. A favorite composition on bass. Nicely performed.
I agree.
Thanks so much for the transcription. Great playing 🙌
u rock
You and Wilkes are some amazing bass players!
amazing, thanks! I'm not sure if I can learn it faster by hearing and looking or by finally learning to read notation
Very good, thx!
Killer! So smooth
I’ve been working at this for 10 hours and have barely got down the main bass line part
👍
