- Follow along as I ride the Eastern Third of the Trans America Bike Trail, from Southern Illinois to Yorktown, Virginia. I crossed the Ohio River at Cave in Rock riding into western Kentucky. I crossed the Bluegrass state going through Bardstown, Berea, Hazard and Elkhorn City. I rode over the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky and Virginia. I rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway and past the Cookie Lady's house. I went through Williamsburg and finished at Yorktown.

So my wife wanted to watch a movie and I said why not watch this man on his bike....so we did. She watched every second of it with me and enjoyed it thoroughly! When you said "restless legs syndrome" both our jaws dropped because she suffers from it too! Anyway thank you for taking the time to film as you ride and for the time you spend editing. We will be watching more of you and enjoying your rides.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I don't know if I really have RLS. I'm just not comfortable sitting still for too long. Riding my bike makes my legs happy. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Thanks for the video Paul. I was one of the original 1976 Bikecentennial cross country cyclists and your presentation brought back so many great memories. I sometimes wonder how different the roads and places are now. Kentucky was so remote back in the day and we were not always welcome. The coal trucks for example did not like sharing the roads with us. I have also watched your C&O and Katy videos. All are fantastic! These days, I mostly stay away from roads so my wife and I mainly do the rail trails. Will be riding both the Katy and GAP again his year. Thanks again for sharing your adventures! You are much appreciated.
In 1976 I was in the 7th grade, so I was too young. But you guys set an example for the rest of us. When I heard about Bikecentential when I was in high school it planted a seed in my imagination that made me wonder and dream about riding my bike across the country and having my own adventure. Dreams like that are powerful! Thanks for setting an example.
Great video! Today we're actually pouring a pad to build a shelter in the Hazard/Perry County Park in a locked lot for cyclists riding the TA trail to camp. Lowes has donated the material and manpower to finish it next week.
I love the towns along the TransAm. They roll out the carpet for us bikers. Thanks for watching and thanks to Lowes!
Kenny Dunn. You are a very kind hearted individual. Back around 2009 when I decided in my 50’s to get back into dirt bike riding, you helped me around a little bit of Redbird and tried to keep me safe. I bicycle a lot now, started as rehab from motorcycle crash several years back and now I see you’re still out there helping your community and people to get out and enjoy the outdoors. World needs more people like you Kenny. Best wishes to you! Thank you!
"I love a road by a creek, but I always feel bad for the creek." Great quote! Nothing like dipping hot feet in that cool stream.
Thanks for watching! That was one of the highlights of the trip. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Another fantastic video Paul! Thanks for all the time you put in to editing. The explanations and history of your travels along the Trans America Bicycle Trail are incredible! Look forward to the next videos! Alex 🇺🇸🇨🇦
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. It probably takes more time to edit the video that it took to do the ride. LOL! But I enjoy watching them too. Thanks again!
Rim breaks...Fred Flinstone breaks..... Man you are hard core. Keep riding my friend.
Thanks for watching. No school like the old school. Ride on!
We have been waiting on this upload . Been checking everyday for the last 2 months.
Awesome, but did you like it? You might have to watch it more than once. LOL!!!
@@paulsuchecki3985 loved it. Wish I had known you were going to do the C&O-Gap. I would have hopped on the train to D.C. and rode them with you.
Man what a beautiful route. What beautiful part of the USA for bike touring. Liking your uploads very much. Thanks for that.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
I got a real kick out of the dog stories. I love dogs too and I'm not afraid of them either. The Flintstone brakes had me on the floor but I'm glad you were not hurt. You saw a lot of Real America and I hope some day I might be able to also. Very nicely made video and informative too!
When we were kids we would build bike from parts we found in the garbage. Sometimes they wouldn't have brakes, so that's how we stopped. But I love travelling at the speed of a bicycle, you see more. Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
Thank you for sharing your pictures and impressions
who wouldn't want to cycle straight through the green heart of America ;-)- thanks for the inspiration from germany
Thanks for watching! It's a classic ride with lots of international cyclists. Greetings from the USA. 😎
I'm not sure how I found your channel but it's been wonderful seeing somebody speak so easily about touring. One of my favorite places in the world is Williamsburg... but you're absolutely correct about the bumpy road.
Excellent content! I look forward to watching more of your travels.
Welcome aboard! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! It's a scenic road. The added texture must add to the rusticness of it all. Thanks again. Ride on!!
Great video Paul. Got me psyched to roll again. Hope we cross trails again some day.
Hey Mike. Great to hear from you. I'm glad you saw the video. Thanks. I also hope we cross paths again. I remember, they still hang bike thieves in Wyoming. If I ever bike through Wyoming again, I'm gonna use that line. Ride on, Brother!!
Really enjoyed this!
Really beautiful cycling video. Makes me want to try this route myself!
Thanks for watching. Ride on!
Nice job Paul. It was good to meet you on the C&O.
Thanks for stopping and talking with me. The pleasure was all mine. C&O video coming soon. See you then.
Absolutely awesom video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks.
You are sharing a magnificent journey. Thank you. I’m loving it.
Sorry about the slow response. Been out biking. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
Great video, great history lesson’s, love it.

Another great bike adventures. Thanks for the enjoyable music selections.
Thanks again! It's like a music video set to biking. 😎
Paul, you are the man. Great video. It was awesome!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Very nicely done. A real enjoyable video. Thank you and congratulations.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Wow this is so nice. Wonderful and enjoyable to watch. I'm glued to my couch.
Oh no! I hope you don't stay glued in one spot too long. That wasn't my intention. When you're done watching you're supposed to go ride your bike! LOL! Thank you so much!
Awesome video man! Love your stuff!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Its a great ride. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!
Awesome and inspirational video, just getting in to cycling! And really opened my eyes to the possibilities!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it!😎
Really incredible ride. Thanks for sharing!

Great vid, dude. Lot of fun to watch, thanx.

Awesome. Thanks again!
You have the best biking inspirational videos on YT. Thank you.
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!!
Great presentation. Your teaching experince shows.
I appreciate that! Thanks again. 😎
Great video as always! Your videos inspired me and my wife to "Now go ride your bike!" We started riding almost every weekend this year and absolutely love it. We even took on the Mickelson Trail up in South Dakota in June. Keep the videos coming! Looking forward to that C and O!
Thanks for watching! Part of the reason I started making and sharing videos was to motivate other people to get out and ride. It's tough, but it feels good! The Mickelson is a great trail. Ride on!! More to come. Thanks again!
Great experiences like these are so inspirational. Thanks for putting this video out, Paul. ❤🎉
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
Nice video and thank you for sharing.

Nicely done video. It makes me want to ride Trans America trail. Thank you 👍🙂
Thank you for watching! Enjoy the ride.
Paul, this might be my favorite one of yours yet. Thank you for documenting your tours. Already planning my 2026 trans-America ride!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!!
Really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the rest of your ride.
Thanks, I appreciate it. More adventure to come.
Loving this channel and the fantastic content!
I appreciate your comments! Keep 'em comin'. Thanks again for watching.
A long time ago I read a book, well began a book called Chesapeake, I can't remember the author but a Google search tells me it was James A Mitchener back in 1978 which made me 17. I had just been accepted for basic training, I had been a cadet from school and i entered the 3rd Scots Guards as they're called today, The Black Watch as did all generations before me. I had began trying to expand my mind whilst I built my body; by then I'd travelled the UK top to bottom twice and across it four times and lots of other bits in stages. We live in a beautiful set of islands.
Not seen the states much - except a place in Georgia where along under the wing of 101st we joined a mixed service jump from 30K feet. Nice guys. I hope to come over soon when I retire with my bike. I want to do the PCT and the Appalachian Trail - a place where Scots went in droves after the clearances of the Highlands of Scotland. I've a son in Banff, Canada and i plan on getting to see him and his family - he married into a First Nations family so that'll be interesting to meet them. I like your approach to riding and videos.
Thanks for watching. We live on a remarkable planet with such a wide variety of landscapes and cultures. The frustrating thing for me is that there is not enough time to see it all in one lifetime. I need to get out and see some of these places you're talking about. I want to see the Scottish Highlands. My wife is Appalachian and is probably derived from that stock. My near term goal is to ride to Alaska through Canada. Too much to do, not enough time. Thanks again!
I love your bicycle, it's quite unique. I've been peddling my whole life. Great video!!! 🚴🚴🚴🚴👍👍🐾🐾🐾🐕🐕
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. Stay safe out there.
Hello, you take us for a tour and show us wonderful places. Thanks a lot. :)
Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoy!
Wow I am from Sydney Australia this was an amazing video I would absolutely love to do that ride many thanks for the great video really appreciated it ,
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. Stay safe out there and ride on!! Greetings from the USA!
Loved you trip I'm coming across from England next year to do it and much much more.
Thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy the USA. One day I would love to ride across the UK. Hope to see you down the road!
I'm a little late to the party! 😂 Just found your channel today. Great video.
Very interesting story nicely presented. This looks like a great ride.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it!
@@paulsuchecki3985 you are welcome. I see you have quite a few videos so starting to watch them. Great stuff and a real inspiration.
Yet another fantastic video, Paul. Glad you were able to get some serious miles in this year. I, along with others, can't wait to see your C&O/GAP video.
-Adam
Thanks again for watching. I appreciate the comments. It felt good to get out this summer. Last year was a bust for bike touring. But I got some new equipment, especially a new microphone, so I hope with a little practice the videos are getting better. Yeah, more to come! Thanks again!!!
I really enjoy watching your videos. So glad to see you recently posted new ones. You motivate me to, "Now go ride your bike!" I recently quoted you on my Facebook page, about the two types of fun....type one and type two. That's very true. Often times on bike trips, I've been miserable. But looking back, I've always been glad I've done them. Again, thanks for your videos!
I'm glad my videos motivate other people to get out and ride. That's one of my motivation, to promote bike touring. It's a great way to see the country. Thanks for watching! Ride on!
Fantastic video. Im heading out on the Trans Am this year and this is the best video I've seen about it yet. Cheers.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! I need to cover the western third. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!!
I put your vids on as I'm doing my winter indoor cycling on my machine. It's great because I learn about routes from America and a bit of history too, at the same time. Thanks, Paul 👍🇬🇧
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on! 😎
I just discovered your channel this afternoon. Great cycling videos. You are an excellent speaker and your editing is fantastic. I appreciate the effort you put in. Cheers
Thanks for watching. Much appreciated! New hobby, making videos and having fun on UA-cam. Thanks again!
I’ve only recently found your channel, and have enjoyed it very much. And just wanted to say hi and thank you for sharing your adventures and helpful packing information. Be safe and God bless.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. God bless you too. Stay safe and ride on!
Fantastic, thanks for sharing this wonderful experience. "Now go to ride your bike!" kkk. Hi from Brazil.
Thanks again. Hi back from southern Illinois in the USA. As soon as the weather improves I plan on doing just that, ride my bike. Happy trails!
I don't know how I missed this video when you posted it but I did. Really enjoyed watching your journey on this route. It certainly has a nice variety of scenery types with a good mix of flat land and hills! Great job of capturing the joy of riding your bike on this historic route - I thoroughly enjoyed watching your journey.
Thanks Bud. Slipped one by you. Been out riding. Still have more summer left. See you soon. 😎
your adventures are inspiring!
Thanks for watching! 😎
You're awesome and inspirational🚴♀. Stay strong.😀
Thank you so much! Ride on!😎
What a great video! Really fun to watch.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Great video capturing part of the Trans Am that I will be doing next year. I did the western half of the Bikecentennial tour in 1976, crashed in northern Colorado and came back in 2016 and finished to Pueblo, Colorado. I have waited too long to finish this incredible journey, so I have decided to finish to Yorktown, Virginia. I will be 65 years old when I take to the road. Your video gives me great insight to what the route from Illinois to Virginia looks like. I'm not looking forward to the heat and humidity, although I will be starting in September of 2023 to beat the summer heat across Kansas. I really enjoyed your casual narration of your ride, so easy going and you truly enjoyed it, I could tell. Thank you again for this peek into the route in the eastern third of the Trans Am.
Thanks for watching! I hope you get out there again soon and your journey. I hope to see you down the road. Thanks again!
Really pleased to have discovered your channel. Love the longer videos - it's nice to see a more authentic portrayal of the US. At least it seems that way to me.
Sending love, all the way from Bangladesh. 👋
Thanks for watching. Greetings from the USA. 😊
Hi Paul. Greetings from the Netherlands. Found your video last night and just want to tell you it was great to watch :) What an incredible journey. Great presentation as well. It is one of my dreams to one day, travel that same trail. Thanks for all your time and effort making these videos.
I hope you make it over to ride the trail. It's the best way to explore America, on bike. I have met people from all over the world riding on the TransAmerica. I hope to see you on the trail. Ride on!
I took off work early today specifically to get in a ride. I usually train Monday Tuesday Thursday, work Friday thru Sunday. But I'm getting close to my retirement day (May 23rd) which will be the official start of my "Ride Till I Die" around-the-world bike tour so I need to get my old legs back in shape. But then I sat down after changing into my gear and just couldn't get motivated. So I finished watching one of your videos and of course you yelled at me "Now go ride your bike!"
So I did. Got in a quick 21 miles.
Thanks for another great video! Stay safe!
Makes me laugh! I used to coach high school sports. Drop and give me 20! And you went the extra mile. 21. Great job! Time to hit the showers. Thanks again. 👍
Thanks Paul. Really loved the video and your point of view. Can't wait to do some bike touring myself. Dave from Delaware.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Hope to see you down the road. Ride on!
Love your videos
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!!
Appreciate the well made dry stone wall 👌
Thanks again. Those stone walls seemed to be a common feature in that part of Kentucky.
Really enjoying your video from Canberra, Australia. I’ve done some bike tours in Europe but hadn’t considered US previously. Your travels have shown me that there are lots of pretty rides in the US to explore. Thanks mate.
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. One day I want to ride in Australia. Ride on!
Good day to you!
I am HONDA Cross Cub senior rider from Japan.

I love watching your bicycle/camping tour adventures. I have a bicycle/camping tour coming up in May, i cant wait. I tour on the Trans Canada Trail here in Ontario Canada. Happy travels :)
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! Sounds like a great trip. One day I hope to bike tour in Canada. Stay safe and ride on!!

Great video, looking forward to The Gap.
Thanks, Man! Love yer videos too!! Give me a couple of weeks and I should have the next one ready. Ride on!
I learn something from every video .Just got a touring bike haven't been on any trips yet . My butts still sore from the first day .What I learned today is to start your trip doing short trips for the first couple days .It all makes sense .
Go easy at first. Listen to your body. Thanks for watching. Stay safe out there!
Just found your channel and recently got my first road bike. I can’t wait until I’ve trained enough and prepared enough to do these tours. I loved seeing Bardstown in this video because I lived there for a few years and got married at My Old Kentucky Home State Park and now live right near the Little Miami trail! Hope you can make some more tour videos!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it! The TransAm through Kentucky is a great ride. very rural and very challenging. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
Hey Paul! Fantastic video! I met you this summer on the trail. I can't remember where, but I definitely remember you! Cheers!
Very Cool!!! Thanks for stopping and saying Hello. Thanks for watching. Happy Trails, Buddy!!
Paul, I just love your Videos. Greetings from Germany.
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching. Greetings from the USA!
Great video Paul! If I ever get across the pond that's a route I'd like to ride. I like your riding position, very sit up and beg, better than looking down at the road.
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. I hope to ride in Europe some day. It's on my list. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!!
Hi Paul, fight again Restless Legs Syndrom with ab bike tour is also my way. I enjoyed this video very well and I want to thank you for sharing this to us. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for watching! I don't need pills for my restless leg syndrome. I just go for a bike ride. That usually cures it. Ride on! Greetings from the USA.
Kudzu....'Let's import stuff from asia. What could go wrong?'
Really nice video, Paul. Crisp narration, good pace, enjoyable visuals.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it! Most people don't even notice the kudzu. They just drive right past, thinking: "what pretty vines?" Until the kudzu takes over the world. lol!
When my daughter was 12 years old, we followed the Bi-Centennial trail from our place in NC out to just over the river into Illinois. Then we took the great rivers south, and finished up in Austin Texas. Some of the scenery you show I remember, and it brings the trip back for me again. It was an unusually hot year, the summer of 2012, but through the 2200 miles we only took three hotels for a total of four nights, four campgrounds and one TeePee. The rest of that trip we wild camped. I think we would up better for that fact. I know for sure that she turned from a somewhat shy and serious girl to a confident outgoing "take charge" sort of young lady - Because of the hardships, and the kindness of stranger. One sees te United States very differently when the TV becomes silent and you deal with wonderful strangers all over this country.
Sorry about the slow response. Been out biking. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Sounds like a great trip. Sometimes real life is the best classroom. Stay safe and ride on!
Kudos on the drawings for the route. Appreciate your videos in general. I'm a non- mamil slow rider , mostly the gap.
Thanks, I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the trail. Stay safe and ride on!
Great video!! Might just have to take that route one day!!🌎🚴
It's a classic. Thanks again! Hope to see you down the road. 😎
i like your style. easy to watch.
i'm very new to bikepacking. i'm a canadian living in thailand. done just two 3 day trips so far. each trip was about 140-150 miles. i'm 63 with a bad knee so easing into it.
if you ride here in n.e. thailand you will see so many dogs it will make your head spin. been bit just once, got the rabies shots, no prob.
thnx for the videos, just subbed today, looking fwd to seeing them all. good luck.
Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!! Sorry for the slow response.😎
Great video,,,,thank you
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!! Sorry for the slow response.
This was fun to watch.
Thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
great job, I'll be out there soon...
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!!
I hit a rumble strip while not paying attention....man what a jolt! Did a 40 mile round trip to DC yesterday, today spaghetti legs. My mind starts out the ride thinking like the 25yr old, then my 60yr old body suffers. I used to be a bike messenger in NYC in the 80's. Now I've lost 50% of my leg mass. It's coming back slowly, but it hurts! Knees and thighs, caught a calf cramp and had to walk a hill. Body wants to rest, mind acts like I'm late for something. It helps to hear someone going through a bike rebirth. I'm noticing the young do not ride anymore! It's all us grey beards! Keep rolling.
I'm kind of the same way. On day 1 of a tour, I feel like I'm 25. By day 3, I'm 80. I've definitely "lost a step". But I hope to keep on chooglin' as long as I can. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
Thanks, I enjoyed your trip, be careful. ☝️
Thank you! Will do!😊
I love Miyata so much, Paul Suchecki. Warm greetings from The Special Territory of Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
I also love my Miyata. It's a great bike. Greetings from the USA. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe and ride on!
Hi. Nice job! I will watch your other videos as I would like to do the Trams AM in the near future.
Thanks for watching. Sounds like a great ride. Hope to see you down the road.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏💪 great video and adventure
Thanks 👍
I just came across this video. I sure wish I had known you would be coming through Bumpass, VA that day! We love meeting the cyclists who come through on their trips.
It was during the pandemic and lots of things were shut down. The towns along the route are always good to the cyclists. Thanks for that. And thanks for watching. I really appreciate it.
Love these videos! “Fred Flintstone brakes” 🤣
Thanks for watching.! Glad you enjoy. 😎
Inspired me to do this been fighting depression and I think this is what I need
Exercise, although tiring, always gives me a lift. Not to mention fresh air, sunshine and the wind in my face. Thanks for watching. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
I love the videos Paul, I am gearing up medically and Mentally to attack the TransAmerica Bike Trail and Natchez Trace Parkway too! Semper Fi and Can Do
Ride on!! The Natchez Trace is a great ride. Be careful around Jackson and Tupelo. Traffic can get crazy. Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Stay safe out there and ride on!!
You are so right about Restless Leg syndrome. When I get too fat, and skip the bike, by RLS comes back every time.
No need for pills. Just go ride my bike. RLS goes away! Thanks for watching. 😎
That was great, thx much
Thanks again! I appreciate it. Hope to see you down the road.
Omg! Restless legs! Ahhhhhh! I’m definitely on my way to tour cycling. I only have to take meds for the RLS. and I hate it, but hate the pain worse. I’m still deciding on my type of bicycle and trailer. I have 3 small dogs that I can’t leave behind. ❤
Keep on pedaling!! Hope to see you down the trail.
Glholley55 Thank you, I enjoy watching you on your trips.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I appreciate it.
I rode east to west and the fastest speed I hit was in the Ozarks. Hit 60 mph one of the rollers. Great video!
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. Those hills in the Ozarks are short but can be very steep. 60 mph? Cool. Hope to see you down the road. Stay safe and ride on!
nice ride
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it!
sorry, but @11:35, the Kentucky Derby is held at Churchill Downs, in Louisville, not Lexington. In related news, the Indy 500 is not in Terre Haute. Love your videos.!
You're right. I know. I got nailed on that one right away. I need to get my fact checker checked. I heard the Tour de France was going to be in Canada this year. 😁 But I'll have to check on that one! Thanks for watching!!
