  • The year 2024 will change everything. Robots are not going anywhere and soon Figure 1 and Optimus, and possibly Atlas, will replace humans or stand alongside them in factories and begin to perform tasks that were previously considered humanly possible.
    Interesting fact - Pepper's humanoid robots boast about 40 successful integrations in Germany. They are actively and successfully used in hospitals and nursing homes.
    And Canadian startup X1 recently showed off an entire army of EVE robots training to perform everyday tasks. So you could say that the quiet revolution of humanoid robots is already happening.
    But while Pepper's functions are limited to fitness, moral support and entertainment, robots like EVE, Figure 1 and Optimus are tagging much higher. How advanced is the Tesla Bot as of today? What is Tesla doing in robotics and artificial intelligence right now? Where does Optimus outperform its competitors, and what will the world be like with thousands of intelligent humanoid robots all around us? Watch this video!
    0:00 Are humanoid robots dangerous?
    2:16 Why are the intelligent humanoids getting close?
    4:03 Ilon Musk's "Star Power"
    6:07 What can the Tesla robot do?
    10:28 Optimus Robot Competitors
    Did you know that the concept of intelligent robots was first predicted by Aristotle in 350 B.C.? Since then, the development of our civilization in terms of automation has been a topic of great interest. However, despite the advancements, the idea of robots replacing humans can be daunting.
    Movies and TV shows like Terminator and Black Mirror, along with warnings from scientists and tech leaders about the dangers of artificial intelligence, have instilled fear in many. The thought of AI-controlled robots wielding weapons adds to this apprehension.
    Nevertheless, robots have already become an integral part of our reality, working alongside humans in various fields such as factories, warehouses, and restaurants. In 2024, humanoid robots like Figure 1, Optimus, and possibly Atlas will become even more prevalent, performing tasks previously reserved for humans.
    Pepper humanoid robots, with around 40 successful integrations in Germany, are actively employed in hospitals and nursing homes. Canadian startup X1 has showcased an army of EVE robots trained to perform everyday tasks, marking the quiet revolution of humanoid robots.
    While Pepper focuses on fitness, emotional support, and entertainment, robots like EVE, Figure 1, and Optimus aim for more advanced functions. The Tesla Bot, developed by Tesla, is a notable example. Elon Musk believes that filling shops and warehouses with robots is essential to address future staffing shortages.
    Industrial and warehouse bots are already widespread, but they don't fulfill all industry needs. Musk sees Tesla's future in humanoid robots with artificial intelligence, as they can perform tasks beyond the capabilities of traditional robots.
    The dream of robots dates back to the Renaissance, with examples like Leonardo da Vinci's mechanical knight. Today, companies like Tesla, Amazon, Walmart, and BMW are investing heavily in robotics to tackle future workforce challenges.

    Forget picking up eggs, which are actually fairly tough. Show me a humanoid robot that can take muffins out of a muffin tin, pick them up cut them across and butter them and put them on a plate. Without crushing them when they're nice and soft. Of course it would be nice if it could mix the muffins batter and put them in the oven, set the dial on the stove, or push the buttons, get them out hot and prepare them to serve at the table.

    A robot makes sense especially if you are wheelchair bound, unsighted, suffer from palsey etc what a cool pal to have 24/7 looking after you. Maybe something to teach you stuff like a new language or help with your knowledge of various subjects no need to keep nagging another human for help just ask your robo-pal to help anytime you want!. With FSD the car can take you from A to B safely opening up a whole new world for the disabled, literally these units could set many people free, able to interact with society again without feeling like they are a burden on their family and friends, powerful stuff !

      He's got a great track record in turning "impossible" into just "late". I doubt your estimate of 5-10 years is accurate, though. He said in 2019 that the Model 3 would hit production and sales targets for that year and he was correct. When he announced the Model Y he said he thought it would eventually be the best selling vehicle in the World and it achieved that within 2 years. He sets VERY challenging time limits on his engineers but that's how they drive themselves to such massive achievements. His 2018 pay package (the one that was just annulled by a biassed judge) had a target for him to grow Tesla's value from $50 billion to $650 billion - a so-called "impossible" target. He hit that target within 2.5 years. Don't write Optimus off. I think it will be in use in Tesla factories within 12 months and it will be fundamental to the next-gen "unboxed" production methodology.

      This. Assuming there are real wealth and productivity gains to be had with AI and humanoid robotics, there is zero indication those gains will be shared outside the usual elite corporate investment class. The class war has turned into a complete rout at this point and it's plausible the entire working class will be liquidated by the oligarchs once they have intelligent robots capable of doing all labor.

    • @garyrooksby
      @garyrooksby 3 місяці тому

      Exactly. Training can also be carried out via teleoperation by a human, which would be more difficult if it weren't humanoid. The second major advantage is that they will be able to step in to take over jobs in human-centric work environments. They won't need ramps, wider doors, work surfaces that are higher or lower than existing or different temperatures or lighting, etc. The modern world is designed for humans. What better shape for bots to fit in?

      All these stupid videos are of teleoperated 'robots'.

    • @garyrooksby
      @garyrooksby 3 місяці тому +1

      Definitely. In most of these videos they are teleoperated as they are testing that the bot hardware is capable of certain tasks. When they know that they can start work on the AI training. If they hadn't done such testing they could it a "local maximum" when they realise that the bot is physically incapable of a particular task that they're trying to train and have wasted the training compute. Having to change the hardware and then have the AI start to learn again with the new hardware from scratch. That's the biggest hurdle for Tesla now they've moved to HW4 with higher-res cameras. They're having to retrain FSD on the new data feeds. The world looks different and so it needs to relearn. It's a major challenge and will be a big challenge for other car manufacturers if they license FSD. Sorry I went on a ramble!

      Optimus IS curve setter. Figure might be slightly ahead AI wise, but probably not, there is not big difference between sorting blocks and making coffee. Atlas as it is in other hand, will never be trully useful. It simply doesn't last long enough and it's expensive to mantain and as long as it uses hydraulics instead actuators that will continue be issue. (Spot using actuators btw). Boston Dynamics has enough know-how to rebuild Atlas if they try I will give them that, but so far there doesn't seem to be any effort on that front.
      As for others we don't have enough information to decide how well they fare in comparison.
      Edit: That new 1X EVE video is super impressive. It might not have proper hands or legs, but it still might be ahead of anyone else.

    Cab these robots learn from humans? I watch the Tesla robots and others and I see how they walk. They do not straighten their legs completely as humans do. Why not? Perhaps obseving these moves in humans would help them to walk better. This is something I would like to see. I like the idea of Asimov's Three Laws of robotics and would like to see them put in motion. As for AI, I would like to see it happen with AI having humanity's welfare in mind.

    The longterm consequences of robots in the world of humans is still unrealized and will be for many years until they are fully functional in society. However, if we can assume even a fraction of the possible outcomes of human vs. robots from the world of sci-fi then there is cause for major concern once integrated into society. These concerns need to be addressed now and not in the future when outcomes are less than favorable. We have many examples of possible outcomes, albeit in fictional scenarios from science fiction novels and movies and TV, these scenarios should not be dismissed or minimalized in any way. There are serious factors to be acknowledged and considered for the safe indoctrination of robotic and autonomous beings into our culture.

    • @Tinman_56

      And it's not the mindless industrial robots that I speak of. It's the humanoid, Android AI driven robots living and working side by side with humans on a daily basis. This includes autonomous vehicles serving the public on our city streets. To err on the side of caution is always prudent. 👌

    The human-mimicking form factor is far from ideal for useful industrial automation. Purpose built and configurable robots have been used in industry for decades. Tesla's talk of autonomy is mostly just that, talk. Their humanoid robot design intent is simply a promotional campaign intending to capture the current wave of excitement and investment in AI, while distracting from the company's product and management shortcomings.

    Do you think that in 2035 with the advent of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and ASI (Super Artificial Intelligence) they will introduce universal basic income!? a subsidy!? there will be free will!? an era of abundance will begin!? the intellectual and motor capabilities of robots have already surpassed the average human and before 2035 there is talk of them surpassing those of any human and then again those of any human combined! regarding both body and mind! answer me please...
