George Lucas said it himself. Anakin is the Chosen One, and the Star Wars saga was always about him. His life, rising to be the Jedi hero of the Republic, falling to the dark side and being the Empire's symbol of fear as a Dark Lord of the Sith, and finally gaining redemption by saving the his son from his master.
Albert The Peacock he said it could potentially end at an episode 9, NOT what these new movies are, as they threw away his story ideas, so I would say it’s not really a crossroads. (The villain for his sequel trilogy would have been a higher power, not a dark side user)
The "Sand" nonsense thru all these years is like an inside joke you didn't get. Jakku isn't any different than Tatooine. Rey just hadn't been anyplace. Anakin was training and in the Clone Wars. Rey wasn't making robots nor was a Slave stuck at Jakku. Plus George Lucas wrote the story, so bashing characters that are handed a script to read it for a big budget film 🎥 P.S. I hate sand too. It gets into everything & yes will ruin electronics.
If Padmè was the chosen one, you wouldn't hate the prequels. Reverse her to Anakin's role. She's got more screen appeal than Rey. Padmes Midochlorian count carrying Anakin's kids exceeded his high number. Another movie.
Pisses me off how in a 12 and a half minute video you came up with a better, more satisfying ending to a movie made by a multi-billionaire company with nigh infinite resources. Just sad.
The people who made the sequel trilogy are not Fans of Star Wars. It takes a FAN of Star Wars to be able to make up a proper ending. Ill add to it Voice of Anakin: "We're with you Rey" Anakin appears with lightsaber (Because... like Thor said.. Fuck It) More force ghosts begin appearing Rey: "...How!?" Obi Wan Kenobi(Ewan McGregor) appears right next to Anakin Obi Wan: "We can only be here, because you're here Rey." Either Kenobi, or another popular Jedi, maybeee Luke: "You're Strength is our strength" The rest could have went on as Thor said. Fuck it Ill add Yoda being the one to explain how Anakin has forsaken being a force ghost.
JJ should not be making big screen movie franchises. His expertise is small screen series. There's a skill set he seems to lack for coordinating on this scale.
This Disney trilogy was an absolute waste of time. It added nothing to the saga. If anything, it took away from Episodes 1-6 by diminishing the accomplishments of our heroes. Everyone involved with it should be ashamed.
@@christopherhanley507 Did Rogue One achieve anything? The underwritten characters achieved a predetermined goal. If the sequel trilogy is a failure to add anything new to the saga, then Rogue One did not even attempt to add anything new to the saga (other than canonizing Vader's Mustafar Castle, which is an interesting character detail that the Disney-EU has explored).
I would not blame everyone involved. That's like blaming Jake Lloyd for Lucas' terrible direction of actors (Watch the Making of Episode I on the official Star Wars UA-cam channel. He is visibly stressed under Lucas' directions only for George to ignore his own responsibility and treat him like a problem child.) And Abrams and Johnson did not have full access to George's ideas and notes. Only Kennedy, Iger, Horn, and two others had full access to what was sold to them. While Terrio, Abrams, Johnson, Arndt, and even Kasdan made mistakes, to put the blame on "everyone" is ludicrous. (By everyone I assume you mean everyone, including best boys and caterers. If you were exaggerating that's on me.)

Alexandra Markovic exactly. That’s generally why people say it’s the best Disney Star Wars movie. Same with Solo, Fallen Order, and The Mandalorian. They succeed with fans because they generally don’t muddy the lore, despite issues with character development, nostalgia pandering, and some disappointing missed opportunities in the storylines. Unfortunately, they have yet to succeed in a well written female lead, but Laeta Kalogridis might pull it off with Bastila Shan as long as she has some understanding of the existing character.
For most of the kids today, she did. But my children will know the republic had one hero, and the First order was simply a drunk Idea someone had for a fanfic.
It only hurts anakin's legacy because they brought back palpatine. Had it been another threat, it'd be fine. Having the EXACT same threat is the problem.

Lucasfilm saying the Sith are now all destroyed forever makes no sense. There will always be force sensitive people born in the Star Wars galaxy. Some of these people will fall to the Dark Side. The Sith ruled most of the galaxy at one time. There are still Sith temples, artifacts and literature in the galaxy. Hack a droid that can translate the Ruling language of the Sith or any other Sith dialect and there you go. Not one thing about the Disney Wars movies matter. They did not sit down and say "what story is there to tell about the Skywalkers?" They did not make a three-part cohesive story that does anything but trash the past. They should never have chosen to do 7, 8, & 9 as they did. They said Let's do a money grab and throw in identity politics and we'll get rich bull shiting people. I will not sit here and accept any of these movies. Because they fucked up everything about Star Wars. They mad Han a dead beat dad and a horrible husband who would rather rip people off then give a shit about his family. They made Leia a doddering old grandma instead of the strong leader she was. They made Luke a complete failure who wanted to take his ball and go home. They made everything that happened in the original trilogy pointless. They brought back a person who blew up. Palpatine was on the death star that went boom. How did his body survive? They decided to make the new characters pointless. They made a set of movies that were written by people who don't understand the force, that doesn't understand the prophecy and what balance is, that think nostalgia is all that is needed to tell a story when taking pieces of what happened and rehashing it. So, while I like that you care about Star Wars, but I think it is time you accept this is not Star Wars and stop trying to make sense of what they did. I know you don't like it. But It can't be tweaked to make it acceptable. Anakin is the chosen one, not Rey. Palpatine died and no way in hell could he have been able to put himself back together again. And no one person could be the embodiment of all the Sith cause they would never unite. Hell, they killed each other.

When Palpatine’s said he is all the Sith, all the Sith should have appeared as some form of force ghosts. When Rey said she is all the Jedi, all the Jedi should have appeared as some form of force ghosts. What comes next would have been the greatest lightsaber battle of all time, as all the Sith and Jedi clash around Rey and Palpatine. Still will have broken the lore but it would have been a lot cooler than what we ended up getting
Hell yes. This one scene in The Old Republic where the Sith ship crashes into the temple, the door opens and out of the darknes a metric crapton of red blades are ignited, steeping the shadowy figures of a huge number of Sith in red light...That is probably the coolest thing I have ever seen. And a massive clash like this would have been, as you said, infinietly cooler, though still messing up the established lore.
I think it'd be better if Rey struck down Palpatine and he possesses her, leading Ben to fighting the Empress and sacrificing himself to defeat the ghost of Palpatine with Anakin dealing the final blow, Rey dies but Ben saves her by sacrificing himself, ending with Rey attempting to come to terms with her identity as Palpatine's granddaughter but decides she can't and takes the Skywalker name. At least it'd be more interesting that way.
Yeah, Ben has to kill Rey, and he's mortally wounded in the process, but Rey manages to be free of Palpatine, then they both die and that loser Finn gets a final visit from Luke skywalker. And he starts telling him how Finn has to reform the jedi order and that Luke will be there to guide him. Then JUST before the movie ends he says something like; "oh and one more thing, there's someone I'd like you meet" Then Rey materializes as a force ghost. Cut to credits.
I turned to my wife and said the exact thing right after the movie. We could've had an epic duel as well between Empress and Kylo. Would've been insanely cool. But, it also would've made some sense and that's not something Disney does.
If Palpatine being vaporized didn't kill him then he can't be killed, period. Disney turned a great story about the Skywalkers into the Palpatine saga. In the end the last person standing is a Palpatine, Rey taking the name Skywalker means nothing, she's a Palpatine, Leia never used the name Skywalker, proving bloodline not name matters. So for those who are Palpatine fans congrats your boy destroyed the Skywalkers and their legacy in the galaxy far far away
I'm a Palpatine fan (not Rey) and a Skywalker fan yet I still feel they did my boy Sheev dirty by bringing him back only to get defeated by basically a Padawan.
@ Douglas Almon Has anyone ever commented that Anakin's force ghost in RoTJ looks evil? I know Lucas changed it in the SE's, but he could have just brought in HC for new photography. Rey takes the Skywalker Name and is No Doubt fulfilling " THE FINAL ORDER " That's why Anakin FG looked like he was still under the influence of the Dark Side! Because HE WAS! Lucas consulted on the script for rIsE! So I agree, this whole saga was about Palpi! I remember Lucas saying that he became the very thing he Despised , That He was Vader now! LOL
@American Paisa nah, she is a Skywalker. Not cuz of the name, but cuz of the essence. Anakin is the only Jedi able to form force ghost and didn't do in the Sequel trilogy, that's because he can't anymore. He reincarnated as Rey... or at least returned in the fragments of the diad. That's the only way the prophecy of the chosen one is not broken, and the whole 9 movie makes sense as a saga
So... if you want serious, coherent and sustainable world building perhaps you need someone who takes world building seriously. Perhaps someone like Tolkien who spent years thinking about his world. Someone who if so inclined may have spent those years also thinking about how to create a world which is internally consistent and thus makes sense. And perhaps less of the casual approach, like "Dude, we need a movie to leverage this massive brand investment we just made. In like, six months would be really nice. Do this you can..?!!"
I could not agree more. I’m a little surprised no one has responded negatively to your comment yet, given some ‘defend Lucas as a genius on all points’ views that I’ve seen online. But Tolkien a straight up world builder was far more invested than Lucas ever was. Lucas is a great, even visionary, film technician and visually clean director, though, for which I am glad to give him credit.
Telorchid Yeah but there’s plenty of world building in Star Wars legends that Series spans like over 380 books. Turd Furgesin I’m aware world-building happened in both Legends & in post-Disney novels. The issue is that there was never a singular vision for world-building for Star Wars the way there was for Lord of the Rings. Lucas is not the careful custodian Tolkien was. He was a good curator of design aesthetics, both visually and sonically (particularly in collaborating with McQuarrie, Burtt, and Williams) and a groundbreaking effects filmmaker, but he never did anything like invent multiple languages for his fictional world or write oceans of backstory (including a creation story) before setting down his 1st major narrative. Star Wars was very much was and is crated piecemeal and that’s OK, but it cannot be consistent in the same way as LotR.
They should have had Luke return by explaining his disappearing at the end of TLJ was him cutting himself off from the force again so that palpatine couldnt sense he was still alive. So everyone sensed he died so he could find palpatine undetected and take him by surprise. I would have also had anakin join his force ghost with luke and fulfill the prophecy... Giving an epic final lightsabre battle when all seemed lost and giving the character and mark hamill the send off they deserved.
That's how it is in my mind... these movies did not justify their existence after how ep6 ended... you can literally end your star wars marathons with ROTJ and the overall story would not be effected in the least
There are dozens of events that broke the lore in an irreversible fashion and other dozens of events of lesser importance that created dissonance. The lore become so broken with these 3 movies that one may wonder what is even the point so discuss all this? Lets leave it to "these movies are for children who liked the special effects very much". Force ghosts that interact with the physical world, force healing and force reviving when Anakin got insane for not being able to save his mother and his wife etc, etc, etc. Instead of stories based on humanity's legends and myths like in OG or world building, wondrous technologies, stories about corrupt democracies becoming dictatorship and heroes of good turning monsters like in the prequels, the sequels represent a Frankenstein like story which only brings regrets for the destruction of the greatest adventure in the history of Hollywood.

Dear Thor, I've been a real lurker on your videos for the last three years. I've listened to practically every single one of your videos (including your fan fictions) but never considered myself a hardcore enough of a fan to engage in the conversation. In some ways your commentary is what turned me from a casual Star Wars fan into a someone who really loves this franchise far beyond any other pop-culture reference I grew up with. One of my favourite thinkers I encountered as an undergraduate was Joseph Campbell, who himself was a great fan of Star Wars and the mythological lineage of hero figures throughout human civilisation. That being said, its been an interesting journey over the last two years since the Last Jedi. I guess I belong to the group of people who actually really liked The Last Jedi. I am cognisant of all of its flaws in terms of lore but ultimately as a film - judged on its own - I am of the opinion that it is a better composed film than the Rise of Skywalker. I wholeheartedly agree with you that RoS is a messy, messy film with pacing that, while never having studied film, would most likely be what they teach you NOT to do. I understand the arguments that JJ was stuck with cleaning up what he was left with but I think what happened with Episode 8 and 9 demonstrates how certain sections of the fanbase were at cross purposes. I thought Episode 7 was hamstrung by writing as poor as many of the lines in the prequels, whereas Episode 8 (ignoring flying space Leia) was a well crafted (albeit self-contained) film. Regardless, I think I agree with the majority of the Star Wars fanbase that the sequel trilogy was poorly handled and I think we will all be scratching our heads for many years to come wondering what these last three films have actually brought (or taken away) from the Star Wars of the Lucas era. Anyways, thanks for your channel. It's really great.
I think Disney/Lucasfilm have a fundamental misunderstanding of the issues fans have with the prequels. Many of the fans love the story of the prequels and (most of) the characters, it’s just that the film experience of the prequels is inferior to that of the OT (be it because of acting, dialog, some cringe moments, whatever). It’s really unfortunate (to me) how much the sequels have tiptoed around the prequels to the point where it didn’t seem like the prequels were even a part of the story.
That's the thing. Fans may dislike the prequels compared to OT but we still cheerish the characters, the story, the expanded lore, the action, and force Powers we see. But to completely remove them from star wars lore, Disney F you, Kathleen Kennedy F you. I rather have all the flaws of Lucas prequels then this sequel garbage. At least the prequels gave us goosebumps filled scenes, emotional ride, a CONSISTENT AND COHESIVE STORY, brilliant character development, music so iconic I can just hear it and picture the exact scenes and quotes. The prequels never destroyed any character arc but only built them better so by the time we do see the OT we have more admiration for obiwan, we feel pity for Vader, we realize that Luke truly is the last hope, we understand the wisdom yet nativity of Yoda and see how he has grown since exile, and just how fucking brilliant and genius palpatine truly is. Because if the prequels palpatine is easily one if pop cultures greatest villians of all time. Damn I miss you Lucas and take back all the hate, I never realized what I missed until it was taken away and stomped on the ground then put in a grave. Not just the prequels but the OT. What a damn shame how Luke arc was destroyed, and how Obiwan is just refered to as a Jedi master who led to the training and creation of Darth Vader. Fuck you disney, like Luke told ham Solo in a new hope "[How dare you], BEN IS A GREAT MAN"
They did that to avoid mentioning midichlorians because directors and executives preferred the force to be seen as this mystical power as it was treated in the original trilogy. They really didn't like mentioning the science behind the force because they think kids are that dumb and will think it's too complicated for a general audience. They ultimately want profit and will explain as little as possible while explaining just enough to continue the plot. That's how Disney works.
@@Aerex12 The midiclorians are a result of the whills implanting them into life, to allow a connection between them. The whills are supposedly the beings that allowed shmi to become pregnant with Anakin. Lucas was going to explore this in a much greater and detailed level in his version of 7-9. It would have turned out that the reason star wars begins with "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" is because it was the whills reading what they considered the greatest story and chain of events in the universe, the Skywalker story and how the force was brought into ultimate balance. So I wish I could read a full script or see even a movie of how it would have been done.
Be quiet, the farther the House Of Mouse stays away from my beloved Prequels the better. I can pretend that Episode 1 through 6 take place in an alternate universe.

I don’t think it had to do with gender in TFA and TROS, just TLJ which is Rian’s doing. I do feel like they wanted to get rid of the original characters however, and not involving the real Chosen One is ridiculous. Plus the protagonist should have been Anakin’s descendant if it is truly the Skywalker Saga. Now it is obvious that this trilogy is just a soft reboot and not a part of the Skywalker Saga.
@@cornonjacob18 i think he means that different from Luke and Han, Leia was more or less still the same character we knew and loved from the OT, while Han went back to be the same Han from the start of A New Hope, killing his character development, and Luke, well, everyone saw what they did to Luke
WTF, I wish you people stop trying to blame this in feminism because is not. The original Leia was a feminist character, in a time when all the princess were defenceless flowers waiting to be rescued, Leia fought back to back with the heroes, she takes charge of her own rescue, she participates in the plan to save Han, she was a foot soldier in the war, that was femnism. Now Leia is a shitty wife and mother who passed from being respected as a war hero to be treated as the crazy old lady who scream "The end is near", never really defeated the empire and the republic she helped to create is as corrupt and useful as the old one, or even worse, she did nothing relevant in the first two movies buth stay sit in her ass letting other do the hard job something that the old Leia never had allowed, she was transformed from the fiery soldier princess to a lazy old grandma. Rey is NOT a feminist character, she is just a mary sue who get all thrown all at her and never had to do anything to earn it, that's not a positive message, that a lazy one a "big women had all easier so they don't have to effort" that's not feminist.
When someone's involved in a prophecy and regarded as the "chosen one" it should mean their achievements are BIG and long lasting. That's what those words mean to me anyway. Im sure their were lots of times the jedi got rid of the sith for a bit, in phantom menace it said they had been extinct. Whats the point of a prophecy about someone who saves the day for like 5 minutes before some one else comes in and saves it permanently? And if palpatine was alive the whole time then he didn't bring balance at all, sure he wasn't "active" but hes still a member of the dark side. The prophecy was kind of a dumb thing anyway but these film poke more holes in it. So yes the lore is completely broken and Anakins story, pretty much the core of star wars since the first 6 films are about his redemption, is meaningless now.
"The prophecy was kind of a dumb thing anyway" - You should've started with these words, and also ended with them. The prophecies are bullshit. Destiny is a trick to manipulate the gullible fools. Jedi were idiots for believing in it and they got exterminated for that. And I bet you anything, when Anakin WAS SAVING HIS SON, he was thinking of no stupid prophecies. Partially because it didn't exist in the OT and was made up for the prequels, and even then they NEVER spell it out. Not. Once. Don't pretend that it matters now. You are the ones doing disservise to Anakin's deed, you and others who treat it like a video game achievement (Name: "You get the shaft". Condition: Kill Palpatine). As if Anakin somehow cheated to receive it, so RotS revoked it and gave it to Rey. It didn't and it couldn't. Because, "No greater love hath a man, than he lay down his life for his brother. Not for millions, not for glory, not for fame - for one person. In the dark. Where no one will ever know, or see." Anakin was an immature idiot, who's made a terrible mistake, suffered for it, but in the very end did the right thing. That's all there is to it, and all there needs to be. Life doesn't flow in accordance with some grand designs. There's no "balance" and no "final" victories. Every man answers for himself only.
@@Alknix I kinda like this. You know there's a theory that the "Chosen One" wasn't really about restoring the Balance or destroying the Sith but about teaching the Jedi that love and attachments were not something dangerous or something that should be eschewed, but one of the most beneficial forces in the universe. Anakin was redeemed though love, and by his love for his son which resulted in him making the ultimate sacrifice. He was the vehicle for destroying the old Jedi who eschewed love, rejected attachments, and taught their members that adherence to the rules was more important than doing right by their friends and paved the way for a new Jedi Order that was meant to based on familial love. Heck, in Legends Luke himself gets married and has a son. ua-cam.com/video/TZ4aZhCm6ew/v-deo.html
Yes, the lore is broken. They made Rey the chosen one by making her achieve what Anakin couldn’t (defeat Sidious for good and destroy the Sith) Also, too bad that Anakin didn’t have this OP force heal Rey has, otherwise he could have saved his mother and Padme (and he wouldn’t even turn to the dark side because the only reason he did so was to try and save Padme) For me this shitty fanfic Disney calls the sequel trilogy is not canon, the story ended with Return of the Jedi and Anakin is still the chosen one
Bradyn Lawrence I’m talking about canon here. All these post-empire sith you mentioned aren’t canon. Plus I know force heal is a thing, but the way it is used in Rise of Skywalker is bullshit (I mean Kylo revived Rey after she died wtf)
Pedro Silva Pedro Silva the lore isn’t broken. Anakin brought peace and balance to the force for 30 years. He wasn’t mean to bring balance for the rest of all life. And the force heal ability is new, no Jedi probably knew about it, and if Yoda or any high council new, they wouldn’t of taught Anakin because he didn’t ask for help or guidance. And whether you like it or not Star Wars 7 and 9 are cannon. You don’t have to include episode 8 because that was true garbage. But try to think that the Skywalker saga did end after episode 6. This trilogy is more like the children of Skywalker and palpatine.
Force healing in the Mandalorian, closes a flesh wound that untreated would have become infected and killed him. Force healing in this recent movie, revives someone from the dead with what appears to be little effort except when the healer is already almost dead also.
Red ram This is from “Master and Apprentice”, an official Disney canon book. Here is the prophecy: “A Chosen One shall come, born of no father, and through him will ultimate balance in the Force be restored.”
@The Warrchitect No, I remember seeing an interview where Rian actually praised the Prequels and didn't mock Jar Jar Binks. Luke talks about " Darth Sidious " and the narrow view of the Jedi from the Prequels too in The Last Jedi. Abrams said in the past that he even loves the Plinkett reviews of The Prequels. He mocked Jar Jar and the Midichlorians plenty of times too. He hates The Prequels.
@@AlexYBITW I can confirm this. Multiple interviews with Rian recorded him demonstrating his knowledge of the OG 6 films, and how he took visual and stylistic influences from the PT. JJ has mocked many aspects of the PT, even during the TROS press when he said George "loves his midichlorians", and kept on going back to practical effects and real location shoots as if the last 10 years of SW were made on a computer...when in actuality TPM utilized multiple location shoots without much green/bluescreen. And the irony? JJ used a green/bluescreen in the desert.
@@rayo146-x8x This is exactly what I am talking about. The Prequels used more practical effects and set pieces, miniatures etc than the Original Trilogy. But these people live under a rock. Johnson made a piece of shit and is an asshole to people on Twitter, but he respects the creator of Star Wars and his work. Abrams took so many dumps on Lucas and The Prequels these past few years it's ridiculous.
Lore isn’t broken. And she didn’t do what palpatine wanted. Palpatine wanted her to strick him down in anger. But Rey simply defended herself with the help of all the Jedi.
@@HankJ666 Didn't change the story at all, you say... oh, certainly, the CG edits to the OT didn't much change the original story. The prequels did, though. By a lot.
There is *lore contradictions everywhere!* Rey using force lightning, Rey and kylos force visions being able to alter time and space, Rey’s op healing, Kylo vanishing upon death even tho he never learned how to become one with the force and ascend into the beyond like Qui gon taught Yoda and Obi wan, The defeat of palpatine is insane with how much lore it breaks lol
Technically, any Force-user can use lightning. For example, Jaden Korr once unintentionally used Force lightning because he thought he was about to die and tapped into the dark side out of fear.
@Salmon The legends are none canon and the actual canon only explains what Rey did. Either way, it's a learnt skill from what legends showed at least. Where in the movies, it just appears as something Rey and Kylo can do out of nowhere.
@@emberfist8347 Yes. Balance does not necessarily mean that there should be equal amounts of Jedi and Sith, especially in regards to how George Lucas interpreted the Force. The Force does not operate on a Yin-Yang dichotomy, at least not in the corporeal sense. There cannot be equal amounts of light side and dark side users because that’s not balance. That’s just continuing the Jedi-Sith conflict. George Lucas has explained, and canon material such as The Ghosts of Mortis has backed it up, that the Sith are a cancer in the Force. They subvert and twist the Dark Side in such a way that it ends up corrupting the entire dark side. Kill the Sith, and you kill the cancer, and that brings both sides in balance. The Dark side in of itself is not a bad thing, but it's easy to be overwhelmed by its power. It was only the Sith that perverted its uses. The Chosen One is meant to embody the best of both worlds. To take in the light without rejecting the dark, and to set an example for all future Jedi. The Prequels were showing that the light side was also just as corruptible; The Jedi being the only ones around is good, but once they started misconstruing their philosophies and becoming more suppressive of emotion, they began playing into the corrupted dark side. It is said that the Dark Side embodies what are basically human emotions. Passion, fear, anger, sadness; these all lead to the shadow of greed, but are also sources of power. But the point that the Originals ultimately made wasn't for there to be two sides in equal ability (that’s Mortis’s job). The point of the Original Trilogy in the Saga is that the Dark Side has to be redeemed and adopted by the Jedi. It can’t be suppressed or destroyed. It exists in all of us, but it’s about how we use it in the end. That’s the whole point of Luke’s declaration as a Jedi despite proudly professing what the typical Jedi Order member would consider a Dark Side trait. He proudly professes his connection to Anakin and his love for his family, something that his father could never show. Luke has become a pure version of what the Jedi SHOULD be. “I always tell my students that they should be monsters...Be a monster because then you can learn how to control it.” - Jordan Peterson Granted, the “monstrous” things the Dark side occupies basic human feelings, but the idea is to control it. The idea is to embrace emotion and passion without succumbing to it completely. Luke had every reason to follow the Windu path and reject Vader as his father, but he didn’t. He had reason to become the next Darth Vader, but he didn’t. He realized the path of good, but he loved his father. The thing that the Jedi of the PT actively discouraged was familial love and relationships, and the Sith took advantage of that to kill the Light Side. Luke was near to fall to the same problem, but by holding himself back without rejecting his love and passion…he embraced both the light side and the dark side. He became a monster, and he knew how to control it. And in teaching that to Vader, in teaching him that he could do the same without losing his way…he brought the Chosen One to balance the Light and the Dark, exterminating the Sith Cancer and bringing both sides of the force to the name of good. And he did it to embrace love, the last symbol of his love after she died, and the chance to save his family. They became the truest form of Jedi. Their sacrifices saved the galaxy and redefined an entire religion. This is the ultimate question the Complete Saga asks and answers: how can we maintain our good will without falling to evil? How do we embrace the truest parts of ourselves when they can lead to horrible excesses? The answer is that you bear through it. You embrace yourself. You embrace your legacy and your humanity to recognize the wrongs and make good on the rights, and you light the way for others to do the same. That is the will of the Light, the Dark, and the Force. So ultimately, that was what brought balance: an adoption of the dark to justify the light without any dim shades of grey, or in this case “dim shades of darkness”; the dark needs to be in spades across a light background, rather than an equal pattern between both. The balance ultimately acts to preserve good in the galaxy through a new generation and idea of the Jedi.
Not having Anakin is so insanely ridiculous that there are no words! Why disney cuz it would cost you a few more dollars? Or do you really just have no idea what you have in the amazing characters Lucas “ wrongly “ gave you!
Alexandra Markovic I love “strong female characters”. Leia and Ashoka were amazing and Mara Jade and Mirax Terik are my favorite EU female characters. But they were awesome characters that happened to also be female. Trying to make a character a hero and awesome because she is a female is a slap in the face of the great women that achieved great things in this world. Telling them they are awesome and heroes just because they are female and not because of what they have worked hard to achieve is a terrible message to send girls. That’s why I don’t like Rey’s forced character
The lore was messed up so bad that I almost walked out several times. Shit I mean the Rebels show gave me more emotional Jedi moments with the proper feel than anything in any of these movies. Force ghosts and anakins arc are some of my biggest problems. Regarding force ghosts, if everyone becomes one so easily then it takes away what’s special about it and also the training and discipline to be able to do it. It’s almost like if you trained to become a Jedi for 5 minutes then you get a participation award. Regarding anakin I’m pissed because his arc was deep. It was comparable to people in real life. You could understand a life long struggle but nope that’s gone for something way more lame. I also have a problem with force healing. Well more like Ben force healing. I think it’s an okay power as long as it’s something rare like the force echos Cal uses in the video game, but when you got someone who has been worthless the whole trilogy instantly learn how to force heal then that’s a problem. Also if they kept it as a Rey thing only then it didn’t contradict the past movies but with Ben being able to do it everything is fucked
Lol... yeah think about it. They (Disney) was like "we certainly don't want that type of backlash" and then decided to make 3 movies couldn't DREEM of being as good as the PT DISNEY SUCKS
Obi-Wan: You were the Chosen One! It was said- Disney: Sorry. That ain't canon. Females are suppose to be a strong female protagonist and must have no character development or any training to be the Chosen One.
Disney singlehandedly made the entire first 6 movies pointless. They retconned Anakins sacrifice and gave it to an undeserving Mary Sue. It's disgusting what is happening before our very eyes.
I see the lore as being more broken because of the fact they practically retconned Mortis. The son showed us that the Force is in balance with BOTH halves, and it is the Sith themselves that are the problem. Not the darkside. It was when he embraced it, and fully committed to it by seeking to wipe out the light that it fell out of balance. The Father used both halves, as did Bendu and Anakin. Mortis showed the darkside as death and destruction, in opposition to the light's life and creation. Death, while the less preferable of the two, still keeps the universe in balance.
So Johnson didn't study for the test and just went along with his idea of "Darkness rises and light to meet it". Which means "I see it the way I want, heheheh".
I think 9 fault is that much of it should have been set up in 8. Palpatine should have been there, maybe man behind the curtain when snoke dies and their moment of victory vanishing. I think the force connection is the strongest part of the story as it can be traced through all 9 movies in some way. Would have like to see Rey the daughter of Luke and Mara jade, and Mara the daughter of palpatine. And Luke not knowing and somehow losing his Wife to Ben and every thing he worked for to restore the galaxy by Ben- and give him a real reason to be sad on the island (like he is in deep morning,) and in the same instance Han smuggled Rey away when she was young without Luke knowing to protect her from Ben and to not lead the emporer or snoke back to the girl through Luke.
I know what you're saying. Across the movies, novels, cartoons and comics we see small glimpses of a larger picture. The Darth Vader comic #25 helped put things in a much smaller and and clearer picture. Most people haven't read it and or wouldn't care to. It helped me to put the tragedy of the Skywalkers into perspective, I get it and accept it.
Yes Anakin is the chosen one. George Lucas said it himself, Star Wars is about Anakin Skywalker's story. Still don't believe me? watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Season 3, episode 15, 16 & 17.
This is my favorite video you've made. Perfect description of balance within the SW universe, and shows that Rian either doesn't know how the force works, or hated SW so much he doesn't care
The avg fan isnt gonna care about this chosen one prophecy bring balance etc. And i guarantee most new fans or watever will look at her as doing way more then Anakin did! Poll it in 5 years! But 2 all who care and kno the truth...rey can go bury herself in the sand and anakins force ghost can take a giant dump on her! Iam never watching this movie so my mind wont b corrupted by this nonsense that Anakin did his job for 30 years and wonder rey just destroyed all the frigin sith! ✌Out!
True. I was talking to a normie who has enjoyed this movie for some reason and doesn't care about the lore. There were enough flashy battles and scenes to "get the feels" For someone who has followed Star Wars their whole life, this is a betrayal worse than order 66.
@@qui-gone ya i agree its legit bs! Episode 1 the boy is the chosen one. A prophecy that goes back thousands of years and people r justifying it oh he did destroy the sith for 30 years. Yet rey just straight blew up all the sith! But its ok cus anakin spoke 2 her. Smh
Just like I love how immersive the prequels are (even If ppl say theyre bad, and some parts are weird indeed), the kids of today love this shit. Just ask some of them. They belive its good because the majority of them is a Reylo and never saw a father's sacrifice, a tragic love story (not well told, but tragic) and the fall of the Old Republic.
I can forgive Legends for undermining Anakin's sacrifice (though technically he did end the Sith's corruption on the Force) because Dark Empire came before Lucas came up with the Chosen One thing. But what's JJ's excuse?
The story of Skywalker came to a resounding and satisfying end with Return of the Jedi. The hero's journey which began with Anakin joining the Jedi and ended with his rejecting the Dark Side was brilliant. ...then along came a girl: _"No! It's about ME!"_
I HATE the movie, but, yes, Anakin is still the chosen one. The prophecy was about Anakin bringing balance to the Force, so his dialogue in The Rise of Skywalker is an indication that he did that and it’s still true that he’s the Chosen One, when we hear Hayden’s voice as Anakin saying, “Bring back the balance Rey, as I did.“ (there is a reason why JJ put this line in the movie). Something that it was stated even by Luke in TLJ :. "For many years, there was balance." By word of god commentary, Anakin explicitly was the Chosen One even as Vader, and the line in TROS indicates that his role as the Chosen One was still completed, hence it’s still true. The Sith were destroyed. Anakin fulfilled his destiny and restored balance to the Force in Return of the Jedi, when he put an end of Palpatine’s Empire. Palpatine survived, but still defeated. He tried to come back and rule the galaxy again, but he was stopped. And…the movie implies that Palpatine did not survive, actually. He says his "the darkside is a pathway to many abilities some would consider to be unnatural" quote, then mentions that he has "died before". This is more of a resurrected/recreated Palpatine.
Star Wars: The Twilight Endgame Demise of Skywalker did indeed break lore. It might be an ok standalone sci-fi action popcorn flick movie, but it does a lot to destroy the original trilogy mythology. That is why I hate it. Not because it was a complete failure as a movie, but because it failed the lore.
Finally!! Someone explains BALANCE to everyone the way it should be in the first 2 minutes. It was never about force users, force users can counter the balance but balance is the good vs evil. It seems like people never truly grasped this.
I just love how force healing is suddenly a thing someone with no training can use. Anakin turned to the dark side because he could not access the power without it, and even with some training from Sidious, he still didn’t manage to learn the power in time to save Padme. This just shows how awesome Rey is, being able to force heal, not having had any knowledge of the power or how it would work and not having any triaining in the use of dark force powers. Rey is SO MUCH better than Anakin, and is definitely a well written character!
I think Rey should not had killed Palpatine. She should have let him would enter in her body to save the ressitance and inside her soul Palpatine would discover that all Jedi were inside Rey. A big army of Jedi lead by Anakin, Obiwan and Yoda. You could do a great scene. You could show dozens of Jedi that we know even some that we didn't know yet. They would help Rey to expel Palpatine from her body that's would show why she is "all the jedi". And without a body he would just die forever.
@@radfrad5359 The ritual required Rey to kill Palpatine using the Dark Side. She didn't use the Dark Side when deflecting his lightning back at him, so she's in the clear.
It’s refreshing to see someone actually care about the prophecy with the correct interpretation of "balance of the force". The George Lucas SW saga, episodes 1-6, work pretty well as a unit. The sequel movies are tacked-on nonsense that damage the previous films and destroy the integrity of this fictional universe.
As I watched Rise of Skywalker, I was thinking more of the behind the scenes problems they had in the film, Kathleen Kennedy possibly getting fired soon, JJ trying to correct some things, how the actors felt about their role. I can't remember ever thinking that way in a Star Wars movie. When Luke appeared, I saw Mark Hamill the actor and not Luke. When I saw Han Solo, I thought of Harrison Ford thinking "Ok, this is the last time.". I could not get into the story like the first 6 movies.
The Skywalker saga ended with Return of the Jedi. The "sequel" trilogy is really just expanded universe in the same category as Rogue One and Solo. The sequel trilogy is the Rey saga.
I'm a minute into your vid and this just hit my mind; Vader told Luke that Palp's foresaw himself being overthrown by Luke. With that said, can we assume he had a contingency plan? Cuz Ep 9 made it seem like he didn't expect the L and had to struggle to survive. The Clone Wars episode about the Father of the Force was sooooooooooo good, now it's all ruined. Is that why he used Snoke first? Seems like we can make a lot of leaps and bounds to try to tie it all together, and now my head officially hurts. Love your vids, much gratitude and appreciation for all you do!
I find the "I’m all the sith" line really bizarre because the sith creed is very individualistic in nature. A sith only tolerates a leader as long as he doesn’t consider himself powerful enough to replace him. They aren’t really known for sacrificing themselves for a greater cause, they only act in their self interest .
You can still make an iffy argument that Anakin is the Chosen One, but the ending definitely diminishes his significance. He...brought balance to the Force for about 30 years (but not really) and then told someone else to do the same thing he did, but maybe 'better'? Right...
I too refuse to accept Disney's Star Wars films as Canon. George Lucas has said over and over that Anakin IS The Chosen One. KK, JJ & Disney are too incompetent to have created an exciting end to the Skywalker Saga that still respects SW Canon and Lore. But they DID have one! Lucas' version of TROS Finale was similar to yours, but without the Sith ghosts. Kylo & Rey kill Palp physically, then Anakin in his Force Ghost form (with Luke's assistance) destroys Palps' spirit 4ever. Hence, Anakin remains The Chosen One and the new generation get props. KK needs to go PRONTO. I don't want her destroying any more SW Canon & Lore.
Lumyia and Cadeus were still official Sith Lords and that was still approved. So Legends has Sith Force Ghosts and no one complains but if Canon does it, then it’s “Oh Disney doesn’t understand Star Wars, they are ruining it because I wasn’t a fan to begin with so I’m going to complain about it for attention”? Fuck that. When does the contradictions from fans stop?
Boudewijn Mulder I agree with you I don’t see any problem with refusing this as Canon because five years ago Disney removed 380 books from Canon making those of us that read some of those Best selling books feel like we wasted our time. But it turned out no the movies the Disney were the big waste of time. So until they show me that they can make competent decisions I don’t think the fans can allow them to make huge decisions like saying hey over 300 books are no longer a canon. Because when you give them that much power anyways hell they can come out tomorrow and say empire is no longer Canon and we have to listen to them because they own the property fuck off lmao
No, the lore isn't broken because this new trilogy isn't canon. It's the Retcon Trilogy. So, it's part of the Retcon franchise, not the Star Wars Franchise. I know it's confusing, because "Star Wars" is being used to sell this garbage. But I think we all agree that watching this trilogy is like eating horse poop.
The prophecy literally says "a chosen will come, born from no father and through him the ultimate balance in the force shall be restored". It was confirmed by Matt Martin, a member of Lucasfilm whose work is to make everything bin the canon to be connected, that Anakin Skywalker was born from and by the will of the force and Sidious didn't created him (as some people believed thanks to one of the rejected ideas of Lucas for Revenge of the Sith). Rey does have a father, Palpatine's son, that means that Rey is not the chosen. The fragment of the prophecy was taken from the novel (part of the Disney canon) "Master and apprentice" which was published around 8 months ago.
You have to twist the lore into some type of crazy knot for it to even make a tiny bit of sense. The sequel movies didnt do a single thing to improve what was already there. Or do the easy thing, accept the sequel movies as terrible EU.
@@christopherhanley507 George Lucas even gave them a summary for the sequel trilogy, and they just ignored it completely, but then they claim they had "nothing to guide them through these movies" No wonders the sequels turned out awful, Lucas offered to help out a bit and they basically told him to buzz off
@Salmon that sounds like a very subjective personal opinion, that you fail to provide any evidence to support. And im truly sorry if you cant enjoy anything less than perfect, because literally nothing is perfect, including the original trilogy
Oh the lore is definitely broken, Rey’s existence renders Anakin redundant and Luke as well, hell you can basically skip the OT since nothing in it matters anymore.
What? That’s like saying you can skip the PT because “nothing matters” The OT showed the journey of Luke, the redemption of Anakin and the downfall of the Empire.
@@ReySkywalker2 Empire grew stronger just a few decades later, Palpatine never dies and has never ending army of dark side force clones. They really accomplish nothing. The sequels ruined those movies.
- Empire come back just as strong - Palpatine survived - Luke doesn't restore the jedi - Leia is still leading a small rebel group - still rebels vs empire - Another Skywalker turns evil and copies Vader - Luke loses faith in family and tries to kill his nephew when he tried to save Vader - Han and leia break up There's literally no point to the OT anymore
So I heard they brought back Lucas to help with Rise of Skywalker, then Kathleen Kennedy decided to discard all of his ideas just like his story treatments he sold to Iger. I wonder what his thoughts were on final battle between Rey and Sidious regarding breaking the lore if we are to believe that's what happened.
I don´t know but I read somewhere that Palpatine wasn´t planned as a main villain at all. At first he was supposed to stay dead and it was only his voice from a hologram.
One rumor was that Lucas’ idea for an ending (this year, for the final film, not as part of his discarded treatments) was the appearance of a heretofore unknown secret Skywalker showing up to save or help save the day.
I like to think that maybe anikens force ghost wasn’t present at the end due to him being present in Mortis doing what was actually prophesied, bringing balance to the force. Just a thought though, and it would actually give some actual meaning behind all of the previous films and tv shows.
Exactly.
And George Lucas said that RoS was how SW was supposed to end so it appears that we've reached a crossroad
As George said, it's a saga about one family. The Disney sequels completely derail that.
Albert The Peacock he said it could potentially end at an episode 9, NOT what these new movies are, as they threw away his story ideas, so I would say it’s not really a crossroads. (The villain for his sequel trilogy would have been a higher power, not a dark side user)
Then George shouldn't have sold Lucas Film that let Disney change that story.. REY IS THE CHOSEN ONE. ANAKIN WAS A FAILURE.
Did Rey hate sand? No? Then she isn't the Chosen One. PERIOD.
is there a canon or legend source of the prophesy like written down that we can read? "the prophesy misread could have been'.

Timothy Sterling Same here. FUCK DISNEY!!!
This Disney trilogy was an absolute waste of time. It added nothing to the saga. If anything, it took away from Episodes 1-6 by diminishing the accomplishments of our heroes. Everyone involved with it should be ashamed.
JJ Lloyd I’m wondering what actually happened ? Rogue one was good because it achieved something. These 3 main movies achieved nothing

Sith is a religion and a belief system, not a species (atleast not anymore) and a dark side force user that believes in the Sith religion and practices it, is a Sith.

It's exactly my thoughts while watching
Your script is certainly much better and both characters developed.
But I hope both alive and be the lovely power couple forever!
Maybe an idea at one point but the end of GoT probably derailed that idea
If Palpatine being vaporized didn't kill him then he can't be killed, period. Disney turned a great story about the Skywalkers into the Palpatine saga. In the end the last person standing is a Palpatine, Rey taking the name Skywalker means nothing, she's a Palpatine, Leia never used the name Skywalker, proving bloodline not name matters. So for those who are Palpatine fans congrats your boy destroyed the Skywalkers and their legacy in the galaxy far far away

Rey taking the Skywalker name is a metaphor for how Disney Star Wars is Star Wars in name only.
Don’t care what Disney says, Anakin will always be the “Chosen One”.
So... if you want serious, coherent and sustainable world building perhaps you need someone who takes world building seriously.

But we're living in the dark timeline.

Right and now the Force is no difference to magic when the force is not magic. There is a *mythical* and *scientific* view of the force.

Where no one will ever know, or see."
Anakin was an immature idiot, who's made a terrible mistake, suffered for it, but in the very end did the right thing.

Anakins voice in the movie says "bring balance to the force, as I did" implying he did actually bring balance, even if it wasn't forever
@@emberfist8347 Exactly. Even without Palpatine, the Sith survived. There was no balance.
“I always tell my students that they should be monsters...Be a monster because then you can learn how to control it.” - Jordan Peterson
Granted, the “monstrous” things the Dark side occupies basic human feelings, but the idea is to control it.

What a waste of time, with a few exceptions, Disney Star Wars has been.
Finally a Star Wars youtuber that understand balance in this universe.
There is TONS of reasons I despise the Sequel Trilogy... but hands down the #1 reason for me is the how much they SHAT on the prequels.

Lol... yeah think about it. They (Disney) was like "we certainly don't want that type of backlash" and then decided to make 3 movies couldn't DREEM of being as good as the PT DISNEY SUCKS
For me disrespect of Anakin Skywalker, who is my favorite character of the entire saga
My reason to despise it is the removal of Best sellers from Canon like Star Wars Vector prime which total on much better story post return of the Jedi
Obi-Wan: You were the Chosen One! It was said-
Disney: Sorry.
She got reason in TRoS
I see the lore as being more broken because of the fact they practically retconned Mortis. The son showed us that the Force is in balance with BOTH halves, and it is the Sith themselves that are the problem. Not the darkside. It was when he embraced it, and fully committed to it by seeking to wipe out the light that it fell out of balance. The Father used both halves, as did Bendu and Anakin.
Mortis showed the darkside as death and destruction, in opposition to the light's life and creation. Death, while the less preferable of the two, still keeps the universe in balance.
Lore was broken the moment the droids attacked the wookiees.
So Johnson didn't study for the test and just went along with his idea of "Darkness rises and light to meet it". Which means "I see it the way I want, heheheh".
If becoming a force ghost grants even more abilities than being a live Jedi, it's surprising that the Jedi didn't become a suicide cult.
Alan Whelan Obi Wan in A New Hope: “hold my cloak.”
Leia, Obi Wan, Luke... are you sure about that.
But they didn't know about force ghosts until Qui Gon

Yup, perfectly sums up the situation
Force ghosts are now like the ones in LEGO Star Wars.
True
I HATE the movie, but, yes, Anakin is still the chosen one.
The prophecy was about Anakin bringing balance to the Force, so his dialogue in The Rise of Skywalker is an indication that he did that and it’s still true that he’s the Chosen One, when we hear Hayden’s voice as Anakin saying, “Bring back the balance Rey, as I did.“ (there is a reason why JJ put this line in the movie). Something that it was stated even by Luke in TLJ :. "For many years, there was balance."
By word of god commentary, Anakin explicitly was the Chosen One even as Vader, and the line in TROS indicates that his role as the Chosen One was still completed, hence it’s still true.
Exactly
Except Anakin and Luke still contributed to ending the Sith Order.

That would have been pretty meta. But it would have been cooler than what actually happened.

Obi-Wan: Anakin, you are still the chosen one, from a certain point of view.

Rogue One and Solo are canonical spin offs .
I’ll take rogue one because that’s actually good. You can feel the emotional weight in that movie unlike the sequels
"look how they massacred my boy Anakin"
I find the "I’m all the sith" line really bizarre because the sith creed is very individualistic in nature. A sith only tolerates a leader as long as he doesn’t consider himself powerful enough to replace him. They aren’t really known for sacrificing themselves for a greater cause, they only act in their self interest .
You can still make an iffy argument that Anakin is the Chosen One, but the ending definitely diminishes his significance.
