yeah not only that, if this was Atem, he would not be running silant magician. If it was, he would be running Palladium Oracole Mahad or his classic Dark magician of Chaos "not the ritual" most likely
@@rhymestyle Yea, I have to agree. The deck looks more like an atem deck than anything. Atem is more focused on getting bigger monsters and having beatdowns with them, with some strategy (and shenanigans) mixed in, like counter plays and such. Yugi's is much more combo heavy, using multiple cards to either turn the opponents strength against them, make a strong opponent weak, looping them, or just outright destroying them, or a mix of all of that. So for Yugi's variation, he'll need to run something that will pop the entire board, like gandora, or you could use abomination for destruction every turn, and also something that will raise his chances of making it to his next draw phase, and not get otked, kind of like what almost happened in DSOD against Diva. I also think Yugi would use masqurena, as it can activate on the opponents turn, which he very much likes to do. Also, for Avramax, I think Yugi would have it initially, but it feels like a card he would give to Joey eventually.
Yugi would absolutely not run any 3 ofs lol. He’d run only the most situational cards he could possibly use because they’d eventually work out for him. He’d have a witch’s strike for sure, maybe a sacky one of nibiru, definitely mirror force and swords of revealing light, and all the dark magician + luster soldier cards
In my opinion Yugi will play mainly upgraded versions of his old cards, like the upgraded Catapult Turtle with the upgraded Gaia and Curse of Dragon, upgraded Buster Blader, Dark Magician support, Slifer support etc.
Thank you for saying this. I saw that card and was immediately face palming. It also requires you to send away monsters to equal the exact level so even if rhyme had another normal monster it wouldn't work unless it was lvl 1
Swords of Revealing Light, I feel like would be one of Yugi's staples because he used it as a stall to get the cards to set up his combos. As well as the bystials but probably only Baldrake as he only ever used the least optimal cards to pull off broken combos.
Yugi would 100% be the type to use Links, especially having their inherent link arrows be used to talk about companionship. That mechanic in general could work in some season 1 episodes, like the scene with Joey and Tristan's Swamp/Lava Battleguards protecting each other could be tied to having link arrows point towards each other instead of them being two generic effect monsters.
He would absolutely run Drowning Mirror Force, in the right moment, that would still be devastating in pure Yugi fashion.. and mostly because… well, it’s mirror force.
The only thing about modern Yugi deck, is that Yugi would have cards that aren't released yet for upgraded versions of cards he used in the series. Also Yugi is definitely a person who would use Pendulums too
I think Yugi is the type of duelist to run more than 40 cards in his deck. Like 45 cards at least. A base meta 40 but then he'd have useful but mostly sentimental cards like Kuriboh.
Outside of Predaplant and Venom dragon being cards Yuri/Yuya used, they're also considered a little too evil for Atem's taste (Starving venom especially). (I actually don't think Dracostapelia was an anime card, but Predaplant was an anime archetype)
I'm very excited for this series! As someone who is 34 and played the original Yu-Gi-Oh and doesn't understand the new metas, it would be really cool to see the "OG" characters with updated decks!
And the dude still lose. He had a very strong deck, very easy combo line (Branded is notorious called Braindead because of easy combo), great recovery, heck drop a got damn Nibiru but lose because he didn't READ.
I was waiting for someone to do a series like this. I really hope you manage to a modern Yugi (non-Atem) deck with the Silent Swordsman/Magician cards. Defs some cards I would swap out of the deck tho (namely ash blossom) to make it more yugi like.
This is one of the greatest ideas of all time, seereax is doing the tablet series but this is like a whole new level. What would be really nice to see is every character that ever dueled. Maybe even a crossover like u we’re doing with Doto but once u spin for the character u guys need to build a modern day deck for that character.
Agree with the picks, but I can see them split between Yugi/Atem. In the final episodes leading to the duel with Atem, a lot of Yugis monsters worked as a group to achieve a big picture idea, or grew stronger through their progress(Silent Swordsman). I always saw those last episodes of the last season as Yugi “coming of age” and gaining the confidence to adopt his own strategy. I think it’d be cool to see your perspective on both Atem and Yugi as two separate duelists.
"If I'm using a card that the character wouldn't play, explain why" Well for one, Super Polymerization is LITERALLY Judai's card/the only one that can wield it. Well, except Yuri for some reason. Was that ever explained how he had the card of the Supreme King?
@@ZeothTheHedgehog Yeah, I know. It's just Judai is my fav protag so if someone is gonna use a card that SHOULD be exclusive to him/The Supreme King I just want a decent explanation. But that's just me bitching about nothing.
I feel like you are doing a bit of a reach with Yugi using super poly. Lore wise it wouldn't make sense because Judai obtained super poly as a result of a ritual where his friends were literally used as a sacrifice to him as is a staple of the supreme king. And character wise I'm not sure he would truly use it because he was more reliant on his main deck rather than the extra deck unlike most other protagonists, his fusion monsters usually being a one off thing unless it was chimera, he was definitely one preferred a control strategy rather than simply being a extra deck spammer. And before anyone tries to correct with another character from a subsequent series named Yuri that uses super poly. With him it does make sense because 1-he is primarily a fusion user 2- his main strategy revolves around using dark monsters of either side to summon his ace starving venom 3- being part of zarc automatically gives him a connection to the supreme king title as a reference to GX.

This is an incredible idea and I cannot wait to see what you use for future characters. I agree with the entire main deck except ash blossom! I feel like yugi would use called by the grave because he always had a bunch of screw your combo cards.
Branded Thunderdragon is insane, I mean you saw how much recursion that deck had even in the hands of someone who just button mashes. Looked like a super fun match though.
Cant wait to see Marik and Bakura. Curious what kind of fiend decks you will come up with. Also, would love to see a run back with you playing singles of everything. See if that Millennium Puzzle is just for show or not lol love the content as always man.
The key to this deck is to bring out Dark Magician the Dragon Knight to protect your ES and DMC (spells and traps in general) as well as have the field spell for dark magician that can set eternal soul when you play it and obviously just constantly reuse dark magicians (optimally with magicians rod if you’re using a good amount of dark magician specific spells and that fusion counts as dark magician on field and graveyard so he can be resummoned with ES) if your opening hand is good you should be able to do this in your first turn
Yugi is interesting, because aside from Dark Magician and its support, he played mostly Warrior cards. Celtic Guardian, Gaia, BLS, Silent Swordsman, the poker knights, the Magnet Warriors (who are Rocks but they have warrior in their name), etc. I think if you were gonna pick a single archetype, it would be the Gaia/BLS cards. But like you said, realistically he'd just play a pile of one-ofs and draw the out every time anyways.

Its a brickfest but when it goes right you feel invincible. Joey would play Branded, it's what red eyes should've been, a fusion deck that fuses with a assortment of cards that bring out the dragon's potential. It would be pretty good if dragoon was unbanned cause Branded fusion is a one card dragoon. The end board could be molded into what goes well into the opponent. Another deck Joey might play is Tear cause every mill is a gamble now and visas is a warrior. Kaiba is definitely dragon link with blue eyes which can include the retrained chaos emperor dragon and add in thunderdragon engine which is also a kaiba card. The end board would be the normal dragon deck with bystials and a set up jet.

@@hazamaunlimited8131 that is indeed the idea. Chaos Ruler already reminds me of Chaos Emperor, so I want a Warrior counterpart to complete the comparison.
when you get to Joey I hope you focus more on his warrior side with red-eyes slash dragon and gilti-gearfried. also cant wait to see bandit keith and rex raptor.
I made a modern Yugi deck too It doesn’t really have synchros But it mainly relies on getting the three Knights out, which I use to XYZ summon Utopia(Yea it’s Yuma’s main monster but I feel Yugi would use it) I have cards to get out Magi Magi which I use to get Ebon Magician. I kept Kuriboh, and it actually saved me from taking like 120k damage in a tag duel XD
he'd play master of chaos 100% since he can summon back dark magician (cuz he like finishing his opponents with it) and if it's fusion summoned using timaeus he can banish all of the opponet's monsters
Missing a Kuriboh rep and the Super Poly argument is kinda weak. Thats like saying a Jaiden deck can use the god cards since he's a protaganist like Yugi. (Super Poly is special to Jaiden)
I just saw the vid but I gotta beg and plead for a request! Can we PLEASE get a modern Bonz deck? I'm talking crazy strong zombie deck with graveyard effects and insane new meta strategies paired with the iconic character who introduced us to the zombies we know and love today. They gotta be gross and crazy but possibly include his ace monster(s) PumpKing and Castle of Darkness? I hope you consider it! Love the vids and streams and can't wait for this series to kick off greatness and nice new decks for me to try lol.
I might have added some things. Because he ran so many spell castors I’d think he would have included quintet magician. Yugi also played a lot of traps to trick or re direct attacks. Yugi would have lost a lot of duels if it wasn’t for those traps to buy him time
This can be a very fun series to see modern techs and optimzed anime decks but i think it'll be more fun focus on more of the side characters, Your bakuras and weevils and mariks and what not. God knows youtube is full of protagonist anime decks
Yami: Egyptian Gods and Spell Casters. Similar to his deck in the final duel of the anime. Yugi: Honestly probably either Modern Magnet Warriors (which are crazy good) with some spell caster hand traps. Or his level up cards like silent magician/swordsman.
It's tough to make a modern meta Atem deck that isn't based off of an archetype (unlike back in the DM and GX days where you could mix a bunch of cards together). Atem could have separate decks of Gaias, Egyptian Gods, his DSoD support with Celtic Guard of Noble Arms as an example, and even the retrains of Gazelle and Berfomet from the Phantom Beasts. Yugi could use his DSoD support as well for its own thing with the Silver, Gold, and other Gadget cards along with Gandora X.
I would make a case for yugi playing Chaos angel since it's technically related to Summoned Skull and you could argue Chaos magician and BLS envoy of chaos. In reality yugi would definitely be cycling between 3 main decks. One focused on spell casters, one on fiends and one for warriors in order to keep the element of surprise in tournament
Bond between Student and Teacher is the most Yugi card of all the Dark Magician support. Also I think he would have some random 53 card deck with the upgrades and support of his original cards, like the new Gaia cards, Jokers Straight, etc
Yugi is a hard character to translate to Modern YGO without being frustrating: His decks weren't dedicated to archetypes, only relying on those for swarm tactics to set up his Tributes or Fusions that pushed for game, one of his signature monsters is a HANDTRAP, and he had a lot of one for Spells and Traps that allowed him to stall for his big pushes. He would probably be a Control player with a small Dark Magician engine.
Don't agree with most of this list, I will say a few things. The characters would play staples to their personalities. Yugi would play Called By/Droplets/Evenly for sure. and Honestly you might not think it Rhyme, but if u build the right combination of cards, all of Yugi's Deck supports(Gaia, Chimera, Kuriboh) STILL work together weirdly flawlessly. My Personal Opinion, to replace the Chimeras, he'd use Guardian Chimera for sure. And they made it pretty clear yugi would be more Fusion/Xyz and Kaiba Synchro/Fusion. I NEED A KURIBOH TUNER DAMMIT.
In master duel I run what I call a pure blue eyes deck that I think Kaiba might use with like 2 exceptions in it. It's a 50 card deck, but it is quite effective, big focus on chaos max dragon. I can give you the deck list if your intrested
I think you could've done a lot more with this video. Upgraded buster blade, Gaia's and god card supports would've made this video actually reasonable. Cool concept tho
When you get to Kaiba, he would definitely run the updated Virus traps, along with Bystials. Also, as he liked to use Soul Exchange, Super Poly seems obvious, as does Underworld Goddess.
I don't think yugi would do this. He is very commited to his deck. More than likely he would have a few upgraded varients hos old cards. But saying he didnt he also wouldnt build his deck around 1 strategy. His game was many small strats that overcame any obstical
5:03 i mean considering lore of this archetype yeah he a warrior, its even be more appropriate here to call him hero be exact. again if you want to know the reasons proceed to corresponding gate in solo mode its one hella story i would tell you.
In my opinion, Muto and Atem have different taste on cards and card pool. Atem can play 1 of copy of every single card and he has no problem to it. He can also stack his deck at will (beserker soul episode). And Atem will most likely pick cards that supports spellcaster because of Dark Magician so he might do full archetype with some hand traps or two spellcaster archetype (Dark Magician included).
Man i love and hate these concepts. Love for obvious reasons and hate because i have too many choices. You could argue that Endiymon was made for the pharoah and infernoble was made for Joey. And etc. 1.Should probably split Yugi and Atem. 2. Both have a random dark dragon boss monster in duel links. 3. I dont think they use staple that have no use in there decks. 4. You could probably find more fitting extra deck cards other than crusadia and venom dragon. (Linkmail Archfiend and Quintent)
Hi there! I plan to do the same thing as this. Depending on whether you're building yugi muto's deck or pharaoh atem's deck, yugi actually doesn't play a dark magician deck. It's true he runs a dark magician engine (as it has support cards for general strategies) but yugi's decks often revolve around big plays or predicting the opponent's actions. Atem plays a dark magician deck, as dark magician is his strategy. This includes upgrades, side grades, and core builds around end game often requiring his best card. Another surprising piece is that the pharaoh would likely use ritual monsters in his deck, allowing him to use cards like "Black Luster Soldier" while Yugi would be more special summon and combo heavy
Despite my personal bias against hand traps in yugi's deck (at least so many as i'd assume him to use a maximum of 6) i doubt he'd play ash, as yugi is more known to deal with effects as they come on board, more likely to negate key effects the opponent needs. See: every time yugi has negated monster reborn
I feel like Konami made a decision with the main three to focus heavily on one extra deck summoning but only took into account the ace monsters color scheme and nothing else. Yugi: Fusion= Dark Magician & Purple Joey: XYZ = Red-Eyes Black Dragon & Black Kaiba: Synchro = Blue Eyes White Dragon & White
I think you should separate Yami from Yugi. By the end of the series they have entirely different decks, with the DSOD deck being a mash of sorts.
I agree i think he would run more silent archtype cards and gandora rather than dm deck

I made a modern Yugi deck too
It doesn’t really have synchros
But it mainly relies on getting the three Knights out, which I use to XYZ summon Utopia(Yea it’s Yuma’s main monster but I feel Yugi would use it)
I have cards to get out Magi Magi which I use to get Ebon Magician.
I kept Kuriboh, and it actually saved me from taking like 120k damage in a tag duel XD
Great video. Believe in the heart of the cards and in yourself.
he'd play master of chaos 100% since he can summon back dark magician (cuz he like finishing his opponents with it) and if it's fusion summoned using timaeus he can banish all of the opponet's monsters
What a win! But I feel like, just like everybody else has pointed out, Kuriboh was missing.
Missing a Kuriboh rep and the Super Poly argument is kinda weak. Thats like saying a Jaiden deck can use the god cards since he's a protaganist like Yugi. (Super Poly is special to Jaiden)
I guess you can explain as Jaden gifted a Super Poly to Yugi when they met again in the present, as gratitude for giving him Winged Kuriboh.
"this is not an old school day video" plays dark magicians
I might have added some things. Because he ran so many spell castors I’d think he would have included quintet magician. Yugi also played a lot of traps to trick or re direct attacks. Yugi would have lost a lot of duels if it wasn’t for those traps to buy him time
Yugi wouldn’t play ash but he’d Called By The Grave.
This can be a very fun series to see modern techs and optimzed anime decks but i think it'll be more fun focus on more of the side characters, Your bakuras and weevils and mariks and what not. God knows youtube is full of protagonist anime decks
Needs Kuriboh Yugi doesn't leave home without that card
I can’t wait for the Yuma video with utopia
Yami: Egyptian Gods and Spell Casters. Similar to his deck in the final duel of the anime.
Yugi: Honestly probably either Modern Magnet Warriors (which are crazy good) with some spell caster hand traps. Or his level up cards like silent magician/swordsman.
His face when maxx C was activated lol 😭 killed me
It's tough to make a modern meta Atem deck that isn't based off of an archetype (unlike back in the DM and GX days where you could mix a bunch of cards together).
One focused on spell casters, one on fiends and one for warriors in order to keep the element of surprise in tournament
hungry burger deck is going to be interesting if its actually going to be every character
Please bring Doto along in your video with Joey lol😂
Rhyme was Yugi today and had the heart of the cards to guide him to victory
That was the craziest duel I've ever seen
I would like to see, what cards Joey and Duke, "the gamblers", would use today.
I would love to see your take on what Jaden would be.
I think you could've done a lot more with this video. Upgraded buster blade, Gaia's and god card supports would've made this video actually reasonable. Cool concept tho
When you get to Kaiba, he would definitely run the updated Virus traps, along with Bystials. Also, as he liked to use Soul Exchange, Super Poly seems obvious, as does Underworld Goddess.
the duelist of roses intro hit home TuT
This was the most yugi duel possible
Despite what happens in the anime, yugi/Atem would likely play multiple copies of his ace monster. 1 is just asking for his deck to be bulldozed
Advanced ritual doesn't remove effect veiler from the deck since it's an effect monster :/
Yugi would more likely use upstart, imo
Yugi definitely wouldn't play fusion dragon or predaplant engine, but he could definitely be seen playing swamp dragon and garura
I think Chaos Angel is a good pick. With Illusion of Chaos, Dark Magician of Chaos and Magician of Black Chaos, it still feels like it would fit
I feel like Konami made a decision with the main three to focus heavily on one extra deck summoning but only took into account the ace monsters color scheme and nothing else.
Yugi: Fusion= Dark Magician & Purple
Joey: XYZ = Red-Eyes Black Dragon & Black
Kaiba: Synchro = Blue Eyes White Dragon & White
I also have a suggestion for the chaos deck, chaos hunter as it deals with kash and easy to get out
The only part you forgot was the number of monsters in the normal deck
