I love seeing love for Lightfall! Yay! A beautiful middle grade graphic novel that was such a pleasant surprise when I came across it. As always, love ya'lls banter in these tops and flops every month and hearing your thoughts.
This was an interesting mix this month! I have Wild on my shelf but otherwise Strayed was not on my radar- Tiny Beautiful Things sounds like an uplifting read. I’ll have to keep my eye out for a copy.
Do you think I would like “A Spear Cuts”, Fraser? I’ve heard lots of buzz about it but often then people liking it are people who don’t read like me (have the same taste)…
I’m not sure. It’s honestly really hard to know for anyone because there’s no real litmus test for it, except for their previous book, Vanished Birds. But I think the biggest thing might be if you know you’re okay with lots of shifts in perspective or not in other works.
I've been wanting to try some Fantasy. I wonder if The Spear Cuts Through Water would be a good place to start because I don't have any preconceived expectations for what I want in a Fantasy read. What do you think?
I think so! It is pretty descriptive, large, but not as large as other fantasy books (like Sanderson bricks), it’s unconventional and meta. So as long as you’re alright with those things, it could be a good entry!

Thank you! I’ll be checking out Lightfall, hopefully the library around here has it.
this was so fun!! the simon jimenz book sounds so interesting!
It is! It feels so fresh in a fairly stale space in the market these days
Spear Cuts Through Water and Lightfall (I’m an Amulet fan) both sound great.
I’m getting Lightfall from the library!
