I literally went to LTO San Pablo 2/3. you have 90 days that you can drive on use license, then you must convert t PH license. I simply presented my Passport, ACR card and showed them my license. In and out in 1 hour. No hassles.

I got my license and this is how it went. I went on the 90th day here, and they said no you have to be here for 120 days ( 4 months). I have not heard about having a visa extended out 4 months but seems some of the LTO offices seem to operate using their own set of rules.

The problem with tankless water heaters is that the bigger the boost between inlet and outlet temps, the higher the cost. Where I live in the Philippines the temp at the tap is around 80F. It doesn't take much of a heater to warm that up for a comfortably hot shower. Where I grew up in Wisconsin we sometimes had pipes freeze in the winter. A tankless water heater that could cope with that cost 5x as much as a tank type. After us kids grew up and moved away my folks slapped a timer on the tank type heater so it would kick in about an hour before morning showers and later for doing dishes but spend most of the day turned off.

I just converted my license from California my last trip. I was 1 day short of the 120 days in country(so I extended 30 more days)required for liscense. I had to bring proof of residence from the barangay hall as well if you don't have that it only takes a few minutes & costs about 200 PHP. I think you have to have proof of a vehicle(even if it's only a scooter) as well but I'm not certain as I do have a motorcycle over in Cebu.
I hope some of this helps

My water heater is natural gas. My summer gas bill is $14 a month and at least 50% of that is fees and taxes. Can the electric grid support going electric?
They do make a whole house natural gas tankless water heater. I would need one of those small electric ones on every faucet My cold water temperature comes in at 58 degrees.

  • @dixiekayaker805
    @dixiekayaker805 7 днів тому +2

About the water heater, the small instant heaters are called "point of use" instant heaters. What has been available in the US up to a few years ago were not very good. They did little more than warm up the water a little and the flow was very restricted. The ones available now are must better. The other problem for anything but new construction is the need for new wiring circuits to the shower area. This is expensive to have retrofitted correctly and safely. If you want hot waster at the sink, an additional point of use heater and wiring is necessary. The initial cost of a conventional tank type water heater is far less, is easier to maintain and replace when needed. It is very effective in cold climates. Definitely a trade off.
I have seen some very nice solar water heating systems here in the Philippines as well. Again, initial cost is higher but with minimal operating costs. Many good options.
Please be cautious with the wiring! The 220volt here is not usually double grounded or protected by GFCI's. What would be a minor shock with US wiring would be a potentially fatal event in the Philippines.

@@dixiekayaker805 it takes very little current to stop a heart. If wet, not that much voltage is needed to do that. It's dangerous as hell at "only" 115 volts and of course like you said, even more dangerous at 220. I hope he gets it fixed, I want him to be around to do more videos!

they been around for years you just cant take no 10 min Hot shower with the US ones and Dont think the ones in the Phils are good for some Long Hot shower either There Not but they are almost always in the shower only if they even have one in there , most hotels dont even have them let alone in a kitchen . besides the water in the phils is warm to begin with , not like in the states it could be below 50-60 degrees easily in many states lower in the winter so the Phils water is easier to Heat up but There Hot water heaters Suck making 75 degree water 80 degrees for 2 minutes isnt a Big Diff ,The US ones make your 50-60 degree water 90 degrees for about 5 min you have to turn the hot off every few sec to get a good hot shower lather up then rinse same in the phils get wet shut it all down and the let it re heat

In LTO main office in Manila you can get 6 months extension on tourist visa. That would work for conversion of your driver license. Many places ask for 6 months as I understand. Extending visa every 2 months won't work for conversion. Only one month before it expires I can do another extension so you would still only have 3 months instead of 4 months as they ask for. I was lucky 2 years ago I had 6 months extension so I did do my conversion then.

@@MangoKashInThePhilippinesYes only in immigration main office you can get 6 months tourist visa extension. For me I extend only for 2 months every time since SM Aura in BGC is only one jeepney ride away for me. But if you look to do license conversion you should get 6 months since that is the common rule for license. And you can only do license conversion in main LTO office in Quezon city though.

Brent, I was just there at the LTO office last month after I arrived. The man behind the counter said the same thing, I need to wait 4 months from the point of arrival. Nov 15 was arrival, so 120 days makes my next LTO trip on March 15. As for Visa, Traveler is 29 days free upon arrival. Then I went online and went to their Visa website and got a 30 day extension for 3K peso. Then I went to the BI at beginning of Jan and paid 8K peso to get a 2 month extension plus ACR card. I'll be picking up my ACR card if the lady is correct next week.

Seeing you talking about the water and small hand-bucket to clean your backside reminded me of the first time I visited the Philippines. This would have been about 1987. I was in the U.S. Navy at the time. When I went to one of the first bars, I developed a case of the San Miguel squirts.
I asked the barmaid where the bathroom was, and she kindly pointed to the door. I went inside and immediately started looking for the "paper," but saw none. I went back out to the barmaid and asked her where it was, What was her response you ask?
"Wash ass." I said, :"What?," because I was having difficulty understanding her. She said again, "Wash ass."
Well, I took my not-so happy "ass" back to my hotel room, did my business, stuffed my pockets with the "paper" and went back to the bar. From that point on, every time I went out to a bar, I had my trusty paper-stuffed pockets never having to hear someone tell me to "Wash ass."

I've been in the Philippines for almost 6 years now. My wife and I live in Sagay City up in Negros Occidental. I have always went to the immigration office in Bacolod. My first visa extension was for 3 months, and every 3 months thereafter.
I was able to get my Ohio driver's license converted to a Philippine license about 6 months in Cadiz. This past September, I got my license renewed on my birthday and this one is good for 10 (ten) years.
In June of 2023, I became a permanent resident. Now I only have to go to immigration every January, and instead of paying a few thousand pesos, I only had to pay P310.
You could always go to a different LTO and see if that will make a difference. At least give a different LTO or two a call. I've heard a lot of issues in Dumaguete so you may have better luck at another.
    Don't give up.

The difference is there is still a separate water line for hot water in the US and one tank-less heater can service the whole house. Wooden floors in the US would rot away if you used a bidet sprayer and got water on the floor several times a day. Filipino homes tend to have cement floors which won't rot with constant exposure to water. Thanks for the video! Good luck with the driver's license.

Your no visa waiver upon entry is not a visa it is a no visa waiver. The first extension is an extension of the no visa waiver after that the 2 month extensions your actually being converted to a 9a tourist visa those can be extended 2 months or 6 months increments as long as I have been back and forth in the Philippines which is more than 20 years now. Immigration has told me and always asked to get the 6 month extension if I was married here. Since I was I was able to get 6 month extensions. On one of those extensions I went to the LTO the next day and was able to get my license converted at the Davao region 11 LTO. This is Philippines you cannot be here for two weeks or even two months and get all of this stuff done. There are for some reason always those individuals who somehow figure out how to receive miracles here but that is not the norm. You will get it done your correct you will have to wait till you get into the actual visa extensions before you can get a longer extensions before you convert your license.

The bum gun didn't caught up in US and Europe because of the cold climate. To make it work back home you would have to make two pipe lines with cold and hot water and regulate the water temp each time you use it.
A small electric water heater won't work as the water would be too cold in winter you would need a more power.

Get a ACR card. Make sure your driver licenses is good and make sure your Visa is good and you been here for more than 90 days. Show up with visa, ACR Card, and a valid driver licenses it's not hard. You are sent to do a vision check cost $10 and then get a legal license takes about a hour for everything. It's not hard go with a local with a license or someone who speaks the local dialect. Don't go the the huge offices go to the smaller ones. Be respectful and kind. And they will get you setup quickly.

Maintenance is not to a high standard for most Filipino homes…Get a proper toilet internal replacement part kit….Likely will work just fine. Deferred maintenance is very common to the point of never happening. I haven’t figured it out, because what seems like common stuff…Even nice homes will let slip by…..Like paint and replacing light bulbs.

Wrt to obtaining local drivers license in many other countries and domestic states its the other way round in that you can do it as soon as you want and the authorities put often a 6 month deadline that it has to be done by , which makes more sense. BUT , that doesnt help you, you have to dance to the tune of your local authority...

You're right. It would be second extension (waiver, whatever) in your case. You're supposed to show intent to be here a year before applying to convert your DL.
All of the pertinent information regarding VISA extensions and DL conversion is readily available on the respective websites.
Rather than trusting YT as a source of reliable information, ultimately resulting in these insipid me-vertisements - just do your research. As for the October expiration - you snooze, you lose. Good luck.

Require 120 days minimum valid VISA from the date of arrival and verifiable intent to remain in the country for a year from the date of application. Getting things done in the Philippines really depends on the area you are in, your connections or lack of, and your attitude/looks. This last one probably ticks people off, but based on my personal experience here in the Philippines, being good looking and charming opens doors more so than anywhere else in the world. Saying a few sweet words to the office ladies energizes them to make good. If it's a guy, just show a lot of respect and comment on their exceptional professionalism. So far it always worked for me.
You need an ACR I card first. Then you apply for the driver's licence. Technically you supposed to have an international driver's permit which you can get from your local autoclub (any country). This is international standard when applying for a diver's licence conversion.. Anyway, if you were denied in one office no one is stopping you to take a trip to the next closest office and reapply again, given you got the right documentation.
Sometimes they deny you because they expect you to ask if they know someone who can fix the problem for you. Usually they know and it's in their vested interest obviously. In my area on Luzon, 3k pesos will get you a licence without even showing up and waiting in the office.
I don't use a water heater. Cooler temp water is actually good for you. Train your body. Get used to it. It will make you stronger and healthier.
Install what I call a 'bum gun'. It's a sprayer head and short hose attached to your toilette's water supply pipe. You can spray your backside with ease. Better than tabo.

But, the LTO put an "auto" restriction on my Filipino license hahaha. I tried to explain what an "auto restriction" meant at home duhhhh Hell I took my Cali DL test @ 16 in my girlfriends 1966 VW Beetle speed hahaha. Then after all that, in the end the spelt my last name wrong missing 1 of 2 Ls....I figured no big deal not like I drove around the city much etc. Living in the mountain province, and they put I could only carry 8 passengers, with weight limit of car hahaha I have a 1997 Suzuki Vitara 4x4 little SUV. Not like if I ever get stopped they will check if the cars an auto lol.....
Funniest part of it all, I had an Insider take me thru it, my soon to be wife's brother in law works there @ LTO office....I gave him the pesos to re-register/insure my car again last August... After a bogus smog test was done, they passed everyone, 3 or 4 cars, and 60 scooters lol Think that cost 500 pesos, I forget. 4 hours there though was damn near last.
As far as the Tabo Tabo lol screw that, I use an old dish soap bottle, fill and squirt the spot clean hahaha..... Like a portable Bidet. I'm used to the cold "baths" no matter how cold the water is in the drum! I still buy TP just to be double sure the back doors clean lmao.

I’ve been in the Philippines 2 1/2 years. Last year I wanted to get my Philippine DL upgraded to show I’m authorized to use a motorcycle. I live in Indang Cavite. Had to go to the main LTO in Quezon City for the update. No choice. Since they do not allow fixers anymore I had to go through their 9 step process, which includes the going through a motorcycle school, getting a medical (an eye test), taking the written test (about 60 questions-got lucky and passed the 1st time) and the riding test. Honestly I was not prepared for this-it took about 8 hours 😮‍💨. But I got it done.
I know Dumaguete is different than the island of Luzon. Just advising to be prepared for the unexpected here. One last thing, a Universal DL is not honored in the main LTO office. If you have a US DL use that-it helps.

The Philippines doesn't have "motorcycle" specific licenses, only "professional" & "non professional". It's the same license for a trike as a maxi double truck- (foreigners can't get professional).

10:24 Brent, retired electronics engineering technician here (but I'm not an electrician). We're overregulated in the west for sure, but this setup isn't the usual nit-picky "electrical code" violation BS. This is serious you could easily DIE! All it would take is some small thing like the wrong area getting wet or that extension cord dropping down into the wet or the insulation wearing through or countless other small things.
I urge you to get this wiring squared away.
