In this video I summarize some aspects of the Theology of the Body by St. Pope John Paul II. In my opinion the teachings contained there can be very helpful for understanding why we are called to purity and why we have the 6th and 9th commandments.

Under Christ’s Commandment of Love, we are called to love and respect other persons, not to morally judge them but leave that judging to God. Respect for the person is a core principle of this understanding of Living with Christ and we are called to see and interrelate with another person as an Alter Christus, or Other Christ as the Church teaches in the doctrine of the Mystical Body of Christ. Living this way is transformative and is an simple way to live under Christ’s Commandment of Love if we adopt His Commandment of Love as our Rule of Life.

As I was listening to your presentation I kept thinking of both the Apostle's Creed and the Nicene Creed which both express the importance of the body in the Resurrection. As these Creeds are central to any true exposition of genuine Christianity they further underline the importance of our bodies.

Hi Elizabeth! I thought this video was especially for me. I mean, I literally thought you were talking to me. I love the topic very much myself. I think purity is essential and necessary for living the Christian life. I think it’s also the most attacked virtue when it comes to striving to love God with our whole strength,mind and soul. And our bodies need to be protected with self control. I think if we don’t protect our body with self control we can become shameful and fall into self hate. I hope you have a wonderful week. When Christians assert that God created man in his image do they mean, ...... with no knowledge of right and wrong ?? 🤔 or did he only only truly reflect _"Gods image"_ AFTER eating of the fruit when he became a "sinner" ?? 🤔 is this why man can be a jealous, genocidal monster at times just like his alleged "creator" ??

Because two people can use the same term, but mean two different things because a word can have more than one valid definition, could you properly define the term "morality" so that I can understand what you mean when you use the term "Christian Sexual Morality"?

Strongest Theology of the Body Fan v.s Weakest Augustinian Sexual Ethics Enjoyer. (I jest).
"Thou shalt not commit adultery" is how the jews understood it. You can not have sex with another man's wife. The 6th commandment for a catholic is more than just adultery.
It says "Thou shalt not commit impure acts". Not with oneself, and not with another person, (other than your legal spouse). This was not given to honor the matter of your body, st. Paul says the body (of a baptised person) is the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.
the main purpose of the commandment is not to offend God, the Creator, .....because an act with the body is committed by the soul. it is the soul who approves of this act, and carries it out.
it is the soul who commits sin, or practices virtue.
The act of disobedience of Eve, by eating the fruit (a very physical activity) was not dishonoring her body, it was the sin of offending God.
I was always under the impression that for John Paul II the central point of focus is man. Man is central to everything in his view. Shouldn't our focus be God ?
I understand where you're coming from! I agree, the purpose of every commandment is not to offend God. But it is also interesting to reflect on the reasons God might have had for that commandment. Of course, our focus should be on God. And by looking at Him we might discover the reasons for His commandments.

I can't find that interview now, so I will go through this article tonight or tomorrow and try to find the best parts for you to read. Also, your English is so flawless, I forgot that it isn't your first language! 🙂I can just imagine myself trying to read an article that long in Deutsch!

Only the topic of a husband "lusting" after his wife is a bit problematic, from a traditional perspective, as it appears to be a post-Vatican II novelty. I'm not aware of any precedent for this in the Church's magisterium. Bishop Wojtyla/Pope John Paul II did exhibit an unfortunate taste for novelty and reinvention ("Luminous Mysteries", capital punishment, Hell being empty, etc.). But that is a separate topic. I will see what I can dig up for you and get back to you! 🙂
@@BiblicalBookworm A good smaller article to google would be “Theology of the Body Genesis of Confusion”. If you prefer non-SSPX sources, the Rorate Caeli blog did some excellent articles with Italian theologian Don Pietro Leone. Search for “What’s wrong with personalism and theology of the body” and read paragraphs 8 - 12. (This may be a bit challenging without formal training in philosophy and theology, but it’s well worth the effort). Another one with him is “The Church and Asmodeus - Part 3”. Look for paragraph '3 THEOLOGY OF THE BODY’.
After reading these excerpts, you’ll be in a better position to benefit from the final pages of the larger article I sent you yesterday, pages 73 - 79. (Mrs. Engel is an accomplished Catholic author and researcher, having worked against abortion and “sex education” in America since the 1960s.) Also on page 31, Pope John Paul’s suggestion that a husband could commit “adultery” with his own wife. After 28 years of marriage, I find this assertion particularly absurd.
The point is that theology as a science requires very precise language, and is not well served by novelty and experimentation. Unfortunately, those were both habits of Bishop Wojtyla/Pope John Paul II.

Well, I apologize, but it will be difficult for me to get into the weeds of this without offending people, given how many Catholics prize it to my amazement.
Personally, its defense of Catholic sexual ethics, I think, is simply pathetic. The fact that you are asking me why, however, tells me that you aren't able to see any problems with it logically by yourself. As such, we would need to discuss the fundamentals to such a degree, I think it would be a waste of time.
For the record, I am Catholic, and I literally can not stand it, especially given how many people tout it as "Catholic teaching." I also chose John Paul II's name at my confirmation. I am not a radical traditionalist either.
Edit: I am also not a leftist.
Morality is the cognitive process of differentiating between human intentions, decisions, and actions that are appropriate from those inappropriate. The recognition and evaluation of the consequences our choices have with regards to ourselves and others. My NOT believing in a mythological god in no way impedes the ability of forming such moral assessments.
We are self aware conscious pain and emotion feeling individuals capable of love or hate, incredible acts of altruism or depravity. It's how we navigate through life and these potential extremes that define us, not our belief ( or lack of ) in your specific subjective invisible friend.

With the exception of psychopaths or sociopaths, we get a gut reaction when we go against any of the 10 commandents--they are written on our hearts. When we continually sin, we become angry and bitter--why? Because our immortal soul is aggitated; it knows that it is heading for eternal death rather than eternal life. Those who live according to God's commands, God who is Love and Mercy itself, experience a peace the world cannot give. Once you have tasted that peace, you never want to live without it.

That you are bothered by Genesis is precisely why God created us out of dirt - the sin of the evil enemy was pride--so God is saying that humanity has no basis for pride. As far as the talking snake is concerned, why is that a problem? By definition, God can do anything. Humanity was given a choice to obey God or not. God did not create us robots, but persons who could do our own thing, and, unfortunately, we did. God still loves us and forgives us.
