Seeing beaver castoreum used in whiskey is SUPER interesting to me and probably appeals to me on some level due to my love of fragrances. Beaver castoreum is often used in some of my favorite perfume bottles to provide a very raw masculine animalic note or depth to the formulation. Examples: Tom Ford Oud Wood Intense and Tobacco Oud Intense, Chanel Antaeus, Amouage Oud Ulya, Nishane Mana It is often used to provide or elevate notes of smoke, leather, and tobacco. In small doses it does great work to elevate and add depth to sweetness as mentioned with the vanilla flavoring (sort of like the fragrance worlds "umami" concept). Great video and fun blind. Cheers!
Way to go Eric. I loved the blind for Kurt and Trenton. That was so much fun.. I just loved the look on Trenton’s face when he realized he picked the Beaver butt… that’s a great moment!
I once had a friend called Eric, Who spent some time as a Cleric, He set me up with a whiskey blind, That put me and Trenton in a strange bind... ...and now I don't know how to finish this limerick 😞
I can just see how the meeting went. Bob: We need a new to come up with something different. John: Let’s distill a beaver. Bob: That’s a good start, but not unique enough. John: How bout just the ass? Bob: Home run John, home run.
This brings back memories. A friend of mine gave me 2 here plus the Crab trapper you mentioned in a double blind, in that I didn't know what I was drinking. Here are my notes and guesses from that experience: Eau de Musc - Castoreum infused Bourbon Nose: Caramel Corn and Hay, slight fruitiness Palate: Honey Caramel corn and wheat up front, gets a little sour in the middle, faint sour apple towards the end Finish: Wheaty sweet corn, short Verdict: C+ | Nothing wrong with it, but feels watered down. Doesn’t make much of an impression. Bottle Guess: Ragged Branch wheated bourbon bottled-in-bond Graverobber Unholy Rye - rye whiskey infused with maple syrup tapped from graveside maple trees Nose: Musty honey, slight funk Palate: grainy honey, slight wheatiness on the middle, graininess turns to grapiness towards the end Finish: grapey honey Verdict: C+ | Honey dominates the whiskey and basically overrides any character that the whiskey has. However, there is no flaw here of note, and the honey flavor is pleasant. This would go great in a cocktail Bottle Guess: Ragged Branch infused with honey Deerslayer - Venison Flavored Whiskey Nose: Spoiled milk with slight peat and mesquite, slight soapyness Palate: light caramel with a very light bbq note up front, turns slightly meaty and savory in the middle, herbal notes appear towards the end kindof like tyme Finish: slightly sweet herbs Verdict: B- | The nose really had me worried on this one. The palate was quite a pleasant surprise. An interesting pour with a lot of flaws. Bottle Guess: Loch Castle Blended Scotch Whisky Crab Trapper Whiskey - Green Crab flavored Whiskey Nose: juniper and honey, slight lactic notes Palate: sugary juniper up front, green pepper in the middle, slight mixed berries on the end Finish: fruity and vegetal juniper Verdict: B | A very engaging gin profile that is soft on the juniper and has some more flavor and viscosity going on than the typical gin Bottle Guess: McLintock's Gardener's Gin
First two bottles of whiskey I ever bought 3 years ago ... Oregon Spirits and Town Branch... Both werent good st all. Im glad i found this channel not long after lol
I've not had Town Branch, but I have a bottle each of Oregon Spirit wheat whisky and bourbon, and I really like both. But they are *not* traditional tasting. They also have BiB expressions of those two, and also a rye and a wheated rye 😮 - I want to try all four.
@WhiskyForBeginners i had their normal bourbon. It tasted like soap. Maybe some of their other stuff is good or my pallet has advanced to a point where I'd like it but I won't buy it again, without giving it a taste test first.
Thought you were starting out with a limerick lol "I once had a man who's named Eric. His whiskey so weird you might scare it. I poured out the dram," 'Disgusted, I am!', said I who could no longer bear it!"
Kurt, you made my morn with laughter with comment towards Trenton regarding the Bottom of the Beaver. I almost lost my coffee on the desk. Thanks Guys...
If you're looking for a different whisky, I highly recommend Abasolo. It's a Mexican corn whisky made from 100% cacahuacintle (ca-ca-wa-SEENT-leh), a variety of corn that only grows above 7,000 feet in a fairly small region. It's very different from anything else I've ever had, and I really like it. But alas, it doesn't have a weird name. 🙂 21:21 I love catfish and hush puppies, but I'll never drink a whisky which has those flavors. Food belongs on the plate, not in the glass. 26:09 "Mom - come smell the Beaver Butt." If I'd ever said that to my mama she'd've slapped me into next week! 🤣 28:27 The look on Trenton's face - priceless. 🙂
"Mom, come smell the beaver butt" chock that up to the things I never expected to hear on a review from SLB Drinks. Love how you guys keep us on our toes. Fantastic video.
I like the comment "..at the moment' ______ is my favorite". My favorites change from time to time. I'm a big fan of WT 101, but I also like OGD 114. Add to that the fact that I went to 'Whiskies of the World 2024' in Chicago, and I found a few that I liked (Uncle Nearest). My tastes change, and I think most people's tastes change. It all depends on "The Moment".
Tamworth Distilling makes some crazy expressions. I stick with their other spirits...they make great BIB products and a fantastic set of ryes. When I am in NH I make a stop there.
Have they tried Malort? They probably have, I just don't recall seeing it. If not, put it up against 80 proof Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels No.7, and a couple other "normal" industry staples. Make sure it's like 2nd to last that they try.
The Town Branch Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon is fantastic!! I have multiple bottles of the Fred Minnick pick of this bourbon that are just phenomenal! Like a pecan pie in a bottle.
“We had all the single barrels; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful boom of allocated whiskey. So now, less than ten years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Louisville and look East, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark, a dram of beaver-butt-flavored- bourbon - that place where the boom finally broke and rolled back.” Years after the bourbon boom, we’ll remember the days of Great American reckless abandon in whiskey experimentation: a little venison here, a little durian there.
Funny enough I had bought both the Crab Trapper and the "beaver butt bourbon" for tastings with some buddies. We all liked the crab trapper but the beaver behind was not good to any of us lol
Wondering if Trenton has tried miso yet. I've never been more confused than by his assertion he knew what it tasted like having never had it. What if he was right all along?
Interesting but I don’t think I’m a buyer of weird stuff like this. If a friend wanted to blind me with them I would try them, but I’m not wasting budget on gimmicky bottles like this.
Lord have mercy. Now I know why Trenton comes up with the strangest tasting notes. Bit of an anise lover. Makes sense why he uses cinnamon toothpaste, the only kind that gets that anise aftertaste out the mouth. Good for you bud, keep up the great reviews gentlemen.
I’d love to see Kurt and Trenton taste separately and then try to give each others tasting notes😂 I’d really just love to hear Kurt say how Trenton would describe
My label was different if I recall, so I don’t know if things have changed or not, but the Town Branch I had I spite drank because I was tired of looking at the bottle on the shelf. Not good!
Hey I’ve been asking you guys to try out “The Deacon” scotch whiskey. It’s a bronze bottle not too expensive where I’m from. This is different and would love to hear your thoughts on it.

Well, that was fun. I have tried Town Branch bourbon before, however, I do not plan to hunt down those other gems in the mix. I wonder where he found those? In a Spencer's store at the mall?
If it's from Iceland it's not bourbon. They may call it bourbon, they may make it bourbon style, but by law bourbon can only come from the United States.
Hey SLB, love the channel. I'm trying to get a hold of you guys about receiving a tracking number for a bottle I was lucky enough to win during the charity raffle. I recently have sold my house and moved so I was hoping to get a tracking number so I can have the package rerouted or picked up at my local shipping facility. I have tried emailing you multiple times on your SLB and Onlydrams website. Not sure how else to get a hold of you guys, so here we are. Thanks

Now I want to source it
Yes I would!! 😂
Eau... dude it's pronounced 'oh'
Yes, 10 out of 10 would try it. Would be more interested to try the weird flower one.
🤣 no beaver butt for me. That's just weird. I would rather try the tennis ball s seems safer.🤣
"Pass the beaver ass, sweetheart"
"WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?"
Seeing beaver castoreum used in whiskey is SUPER interesting to me and probably appeals to me on some level due to my love of fragrances.

“Dentist office and tennis balls” Trenton has the best tasting notes 🤣
There’s a saying that goes something like “just cause you can, doesn’t mean you should.” That applies here I think.
At 22:05 I almost did a spit take with my morning coffee. Well done! 😀
Same! 😂
Way to go Eric. I loved the blind for Kurt and Trenton. That was so much fun.. I just loved the look on Trenton’s face when he realized he picked the Beaver butt… that’s a great moment!
I once had a friend called Eric,
Who spent some time as a Cleric,
He set me up with a whiskey blind,
That put me and Trenton in a strange bind...
...and now I don't know how to finish this limerick 😞
I'm sure it ends with a nap
One was made from a Beaver's behind
Another tasted just fine
Like peach in the summer time 😂
...Now we're drinking beaver butts and cannot compare it.
That venison whiskey seems barbaric
I can just see how the meeting went.
Bob: We need a new to come up with something different.
John: Let’s distill a beaver.
Bob: That’s a good start, but not unique enough.
John: How bout just the ass?
Bob: Home run John, home run.
Fun tasting. FYI Dental dust is not the tooth itself, but the plaque on the tooth. This is from my dentist. Lol, almost as bad as beaver butt
If I considered Trenton's notes, then I never would never take another sip of bourbon or rye.
This brings back memories. A friend of mine gave me 2 here plus the Crab trapper you mentioned in a double blind, in that I didn't know what I was drinking. Here are my notes and guesses from that experience:
Eau de Musc - Castoreum infused Bourbon
Nose: Caramel Corn and Hay, slight fruitiness
Palate: Honey Caramel corn and wheat up front, gets a little sour in the middle, faint sour apple towards the end
Finish: Wheaty sweet corn, short
Verdict: C+ | Nothing wrong with it, but feels watered down. Doesn’t make much of an impression.
Bottle Guess: Ragged Branch wheated bourbon bottled-in-bond
Graverobber Unholy Rye - rye whiskey infused with maple syrup tapped from graveside maple trees
Nose: Musty honey, slight funk
Palate: grainy honey, slight wheatiness on the middle, graininess turns to grapiness towards the end
Finish: grapey honey
Verdict: C+ | Honey dominates the whiskey and basically overrides any character that the whiskey has. However, there is no flaw here of note, and the honey flavor is pleasant. This would go great in a cocktail
Bottle Guess: Ragged Branch infused with honey
Deerslayer - Venison Flavored Whiskey
Nose: Spoiled milk with slight peat and mesquite, slight soapyness
Palate: light caramel with a very light bbq note up front, turns slightly meaty and savory in the middle, herbal notes appear towards the end kindof like tyme
Finish: slightly sweet herbs
Verdict: B- | The nose really had me worried on this one. The palate was quite a pleasant surprise. An interesting pour with a lot of flaws.
Bottle Guess: Loch Castle Blended Scotch Whisky
Crab Trapper Whiskey - Green Crab flavored Whiskey
Nose: juniper and honey, slight lactic notes
Palate: sugary juniper up front, green pepper in the middle, slight mixed berries on the end
Finish: fruity and vegetal juniper
Verdict: B | A very engaging gin profile that is soft on the juniper and has some more flavor and viscosity going on than the typical gin
Bottle Guess: McLintock's Gardener's Gin

Beaver glands were used to make raspberry candy back in the day....as well as certain perfumes.
This was really fun. Thanks for the levity.
Thought you were starting out with a limerick lol
"I once had a man who's named Eric. His whiskey so weird you might scare it. I poured out the dram," 'Disgusted, I am!', said I who could no longer bear it!"
Strong Like Beaver Butt Bourbon.
Cheers from Winnipeg!! 🥃🥃🥃🥃
Kurt, you made my morn with laughter with comment towards Trenton regarding the Bottom of the Beaver. I almost lost my coffee on the desk. Thanks Guys...
Skip the anise reference and call it fennel. Es lo mismo El Trentador.
The first 4 minutes are exactly why I love you guys
Appreciate the clear glens .... so much better

Oh yeah keep doing the oddball blinds! Great holiday blind theme lol
22:08 🤣 saw this coming miles away
Excellent, unique tasting! Eric you rock!
"Mom, come smell the beaver butt" chock that up to the things I never expected to hear on a review from SLB Drinks. Love how you guys keep us on our toes. Fantastic video.
“ Mom come smell the beaver butt “ .. I just about had my bladder let go there. lol.
What a show. 👍
You know you're having a good time once that Beaver juice is flowing...
How about a blind with CS Still Austin, Cedar Ridge, Green River, New Riff SB
I like the comment "..at the moment' ______ is my favorite". My favorites change from time to time. I'm a big fan of WT 101, but I also like OGD 114. Beaver butt is/was used for Raspberry flavoring. It’s in more things than people know
It can be a multitude of flavors depending on the concentration. Vanilla, Raspberry, Strawberry, Chocolate. It's all there.
Tamworth Distilling makes some crazy expressions. I stick with their other spirits...they make great BIB products and a fantastic set of ryes. When I am in NH I make a stop there.
Does the government sanction BiB beaver butt? Lol
A peppery bourbon sounds pretty logical to me. This episode reveals how various and creative the bourbon world can be.
Do a neck pour blind with 2 bottles. Pour 3 oz In sample bottles and wait a couple weeks and try them side by side
Have they tried Malort? They probably have, I just don't recall seeing it. If not, put it up against 80 proof Wild Turkey, Jack Daniels No.7, and a couple other "normal" industry staples. Make sure it's like 2nd to last that they try.
I was waiting for a " tastes like a** ..." 😂
The Town Branch Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon is fantastic!! I have multiple bottles of the Fred Minnick pick of this bourbon that are just phenomenal! Like a pecan pie in a bottle.

That was hilarious. 🤣🤣
"I once had a friend named Eric" sounds like the beginning of a limerick. 😂
Town Branch is just easy to drink. I have the 90 proof
I love the taste of Evan Williams white label 100 proof.. but I've been drinking Jack Daniel's and Black Velvet since I came of age.
Any suggestions on where I should go from here?
I want to try these so bad
This is the content we came here for
Best blind yet. I restarted it 5 times since it dropped. Lmao 😊
😂 Trenton number 1
Interesting but I don’t think I’m a buyer of weird stuff like this. If a friend wanted to blind me with them I would try them, but I’m not wasting budget on gimmicky bottles like this.
Is there a demand for these things??? what in the world lol
Try the Town Branch True Cask (108 proof) for a peach AND cinnamon bomb
Was given a bottle it had a red raspberry flavor to it.
I don't know Eric but the man is mad.
I’d love to see Kurt and Trenton taste separately and then try to give each others tasting notes😂
I’d really just love to hear Kurt say how Trenton would describe
Hi Trenton. Eau is water in French. It is prononce « O », just like the letter O. Cheers
My label was different if I recall, so I don’t know if things have changed or not, but the Town Branch I had I spite drank because I was tired of looking at the bottle on the shelf. Not good!

They should sell that at Buccees.
Ok so ..Tennis balls probably means petroleum smells
Tooth dust is burnt bone broth.
🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️😃😃😃
Maybe the American single malt part 2 blind
Someone bought me a bottle of the beaver butt stuff last year. I smelled it, took a little sip and then put it on the back of the shelf. I hated it.
This is a hilarious YT channel
Would you happen to know any online sellers of Bardstown Discovery 12?
Fun!
Well, that was fun. I have tried Town Branch bourbon before, however, I do not plan to hunt down those other gems in the mix. I wonder where he found those? In a Spencer's store at the mall?
Save a tree 🌲, eat a beaver 🦫
I hear Winona has a large brown one.
Have you ever tried the smoked dung whiskey from Iceland?
Its something
Strange bourbon…..Try Floki Sheep Dung smoked bourbon whiskey from Iceland.
If it's from Iceland it's not bourbon. They may call it bourbon, they may make it bourbon style, but by law bourbon can only come from the United States.
Okay I have never seen any of these in Texas so for me not helpful.
One of the local stores has good variety, I'll have to take a look. Maybe make a request or two, if they aren't on the shelf.
Can you review Calumet bourbon please
Don't know about you all but I prefer squirrel butts. A bit milder than beaver.
I am dying laughing 😂😂😂
The screen graphics flash by way too fast
Ok... With a title like that, how are you not clicking!!??
This was chosen based on the bottle shape or what?? 😁
T rentin ur to much bro u slay me😅
BBB… nope! Not Beer Bourbon and BBQ…. Forever Beaver Butt Bourbon 🙄🤪
Not really in to the "flavored" whiskey 😅 like cinnamon or peach...just a shot, and I'm ok, don't need the bottle 😂
Hey SLB, love the channel. I'm trying to get a hold of you guys about receiving a tracking number for a bottle I was lucky enough to win during the charity raffle. What in the world did i just watch? 😮😅
Something garisson brothers. I love them but they make some unique ones.
Would be kind of cool but like tournament of locals under x value submitted by patrons sent in.
This episode is the a perfect example why this is the only whiskey tube channel I still watch.
I just looked up the Tamworth products. $65 USD for 200ml. Hard pass.
LMAO 😅
I’ve had those gummy bears they are made by albanese and they are delicious.
Just wait until they make an ambergris whiskey and BTAC will look like chump change.
😂😂😂😂
