my nan, who passed away a few weeks ago, loved the mighty bloods. She couldn't have died a better way knowing that the swans are the reigning premiers today
I'm a Collingwood supporter. But oh Lord this was the best grand final win I've ever seen. I seriously cried for Sydney (especially Reid and Shaw). Malceski's goal at the end...wow!
Oh my god. I was at my friends watching this, I was yelling at the TV in the last two minutes because Hawthorn (my favourite) kept getting chances. When Malcheski kicked that goal, I could not watch and it brought me to some tears.
a glimpse of brilliance. You're welcome! ;-) It's the 2012 Australian Football League Grand Final played 14:30 EST (06:30 Amsterdam) where two phenomenal teams of the game clash. One of the best grand finals I've ever witnessed - win or lose. Well done fellas. Get into it bro, its one of the greatest games you'll ever have the privilege of following!
This sport originated in Melbourne Australia about 150yrs ago we are very proud of it and how it is now starting to be played overseas ;its a great game to play and we hope that other nations will embrace its fast pace and skill hopefully more players like Pyke of Canada (a rugby Intl) and the Irish boys will add to its international appeal
I stayed up all night awake so that I can watch this game on Eurosport 2 at 6:30 in the morning (I'm from Malta). Swans supporter, glad that it turned out to be a great game haha
I'm from the United States but this looks so much more awesome. Not one of the "oh they don't wear pads" guys but just the way they play the game looks awesome.
We're incredibly proud of this sport and consequently love to share it with the world and anyone who show's a genuine interest in it. However due to this passion anyone who insults it will not be patted on the back and thanked for their opinion. We don't hate Americans, we hate Americans who criticise a sport they know nothing about.
Moments like that Mattner vs. Birchall contest on the wing along with I think it was Richards and Embley running after that loose ball in the 2006 GF are what defines an amazing athletic game.
it looks terrific! i play rugby and could definitely see myself loving this sport. i'm thinking the transisition from rugby to australian rugby isn't too difficult?
There's obviously a bit more to it but if you keep those few things in mind you can follow a game reasonably well. It's definitely simpler than the NFL.
Goodes completely tore his PCL. Richards played on Buddy injured, Mumford played with a sore hamstring and struggled, Bolton played with half his ACL torn, Pyke - who used to be a Canadian rugby international, plays his best game in an AFL Grand Final after being written off by commentators... and of course, McVeigh, after all the pain of missing 2005, playing in the 2006 loss and losing his beautiful daughter last year, becomes a premiership captain... I'm a Melbourne fan and I love this game.
The swans leave that there as a tribute for their previous name / location which was of course the south melbourne football club. The same has been done for western melbourne (FFC, Footsgray football club) and brisbane (BBFFC , Brisbane Bears Fitzroy Football Club).
I used to like Sydney, but now seeing them just makes me think of the premiership we could've won. It's been a long 4 years since '08. I can only hope...
It does look completely chaotic to the uninitiated, especially if you're used to the NFL. Simplified rules for other Americans: the object is to kick the ball through the posts at the ends of the field; 6 points if it goes through the two middle posts; 1 if it goes between one of the middle posts and one of the side posts. You can't throw the ball but you can punch it out of your hand or kick it. Catch a kicked ball in the air, you get a free kick.
Reminds me of something I saw on the internet once. A teacher asks her class, "What is your own opinion on food scarcity in other countries?" The American student responds, "What are other countries?" The African student responds, "What is food?" The European student responds, "What is scarcity?" The Chinese student responds, "What is my own opinion?"
We were up by 27 points early in the 3rd. Kennedy's snap hits the post which would've made it 33 points. Hawks come back and in a 40 point turn around lead by 12. At this stage im sitting there about to cry. Didn't even get up out of my seat when we kicked 2 to level the scores. But Nick Malceski, you little beauty. A 2012 version of a Nick Davis miracle snap. Was up out of my seat, hugged strangers, shed a tear and partied all night at the ground and in Crown. #BloodsFooty
No I don't think the transition would be too difficult. In fact, number 38 for Sydney is Mike Pyke, who used to be a pro Rugby player in Canada. The only big difference is the pace of the game. By the way, this isn't Australian rugby, it's Australian football (we Australians get a little annoyed when it's mistaken for rugby, but it's no biggie). Have a good one mate
My point is that not one American had posted an insulting comment in regards to this video at the time, yet several Australians were tearing into them like they had. If Americans have since left insulting comments, then I'm not surprised.
I sat in a recliner, rocking back and forth, watching this game. I musta went through about five meters of bubble wrap. My Mom left a whole heap of it on the coffee table for me, the dear thing. Good thing I had a sedative too.
umm Sydney Swans is still legally South Melbourne have you not noticed the acronym on the back of their uniforms, they are a Victorian team which just happens to play in Sydney as their home ground.
How? Explain. If you're referring to the Sam Mitchell 50 metre penalty given to Jarryd McVeigh, in any other game it would have been a 50 metre penalty, so why not the weekend, because it was a Grand Final. Sydney virtually had to win a lottery to get a free kick on Saturday.
Here's my logic. In both 1971 and 2008, Hawks won with relatively young teams. Both of the following years, they didn't make the finals. Both these teams returned to finals with early exits in 1973 and 2010. In 1974 and 2011, both teams lost a close prelim. In 1975 and 2012, Hawthorn lost the granny. In 1976, Hawthorn won. Greatness beckons. The hawks will be back stronger than ever in 2013.
My facts aren't 100% correct, but generally, it is true that the Hawthorn teams of the 1970's and late 2000's- early 2010's have finished at quite close positions on the ladder
i get your point and they are half syd and half melb nt just a melb team playing in sydney. but we are known as a sydney club now... everyone refers to us as a sydney club.
the umpire is signalling a goal has been scored after he does that he waves two flags to signal to the other goal umpire (whose about 1/4 of a kilometre away) that a goal has been scored and they add it to their scoresheet to verify after the match.
Sydney deserved to win, and it is a great moment for them, but as a 15 year old hawks supporter, the depression I am feeling right now is worse than anything I have ever experienced. We'll be back next year. I am Always Hawthorn.
my nan, who passed away a few weeks ago, loved the mighty bloods. She couldn't have died a better way knowing that the swans are the reigning premiers today
Sends a chill down my spine every time I hear that final siren when re-watching it, love this Grand Final!
broke my heart as a hawthorn supporter, but what an incredible game. swans were such deserving winners, they played their absolute guts out.
Love the energy in AFL, when the siren goes you just hear a massive roar of people cheering, awesome!
"THAT CULTURE THE BLOODS THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT"
I'm a Collingwood supporter. But oh Lord this was the best grand final win I've ever seen. I seriously cried for Sydney (especially Reid and Shaw). Malceski's goal at the end...wow!
Great call
Great game
I love this sport
Oh my god. I was at my friends watching this, I was yelling at the TV in the last two minutes because Hawthorn (my favourite) kept getting chances. When Malcheski kicked that goal, I could not watch and it brought me to some tears.
still get chills watching the mighty swannies win 2012 GF

can't stop watching this, it always brings a tear to my eyes. go the mighty BLOODS
Jesus Christ I LOVE THIS! Im so glad TSN broadcasts AFL!
AFL is easily the best sport in the world
I forgot about that, that was soo good! :)
I'm from the United States but this looks so much more awesome. Not one of the "oh they don't wear pads" guys but just the way they play the game looks awesome.
I was there. Havnt heard the commentary till now, nearly cried when malceski kicked that goal!
amazing!!!!!!! Go the Bloods!!!!!!
The more i watched this, the more i needed to give you more then one thumbs up
I don't think anyone at the start of the season would have thought the Swans would be Premiers. Well done!
does anyone else piss themselves laughing whenever you hear the ending 'thats what its all about'. Classic match. The greatest game on earth.
We're incredibly proud of this sport and consequently love to share it with the world and anyone who show's a genuine interest in it. Just magnificent
Aussie Rules may never be a global game, but it is the best, most skilful and most exhilerating team sport in the world. No contest.
What an awesome sport and game!
Moments like that Mattner vs. Birchall contest on the wing along with I think it was Richards and Embley running after that loose ball in the 2006 GF are what defines an amazing athletic game.
I look forward to the day when the AFL has an American team in the competition and maybe NZ etc i think the game would really go global
I need to start watching this
this still hurts so much
Awesome game brilliant Sydney!
It's not a joke. Your profile says that you're from Swaziland, so I just thought that I'd let you know that I love the people of your country.
Yeah mate it's a terrific sport once you learn the rules, and awesome fun to play.
it looks terrific! i play rugby and could definitely see myself loving this sport. i'm thinking the transisition from rugby to australian rugby isn't too difficult?
Here it is!!
If you make it in between the tallest one and a shorter one do you get less points then if you just make it through the tallest two?
It still hurts today
Correct.. surprised not many people have picked that up.
They aren't allowed to show it on their digital only channels, and their main channel is SD until the digital rollout finishes.
One of the best posts I've read from an opposition supporter on youtube. :)
yessssssssssssssssssssssss. so much yes
There's obviously a bit more to it but if you keep those few things in mind you can follow a game reasonably well. It's definitely simpler than the NFL.
Idk.. i don't recognize this sport.. I'm from the States so i don't know much about it..

I'm a Melbourne fan and I love this game.
ill be sure to!
I'm a bulldogs fan
But I love The swans
Oh alright dope. Thanks man
Amazing win to the Swans. They buckled the Hawks under their enormous tackling pressure.
Great work bloods!
CHEER CHEER THE RED AND THE WHITE!
The swans leave that there as a tribute for their previous name / location which was of course the south melbourne football club. The same has been done for western melbourne (FFC, Footsgray football club) and brisbane (BBFFC , Brisbane Bears Fitzroy Football Club).
Sydney is may favorite wobbly drop kick ball game team!
best thing ever !!
30 seconds to go, 10 points up, and Longmire still refuses to be happy.
I used to like Sydney, but now seeing them just makes me think of the premiership we could've won. It's been a long 4 years since '08. I can only hope...
That was so stressful watching the finals!
Both teams looked like they were going to win
So to score you have to kick the ball in between those poles?
It does look completely chaotic to the uninitiated, especially if you're used to the NFL. Yes.
I'm not going to complain. I don't know what's going on, but I really wish I did. Because that looked totally epic!
We were up by 27 points early in the 3rd. Kennedy's snap hits the post which would've made it 33 points. Hawks come back and in a 40 point turn around lead by 12.

umm Sydney Swans is still legally South Melbourne have you not noticed the acronym on the back of their uniforms, they are a Victorian team which just happens to play in Sydney as their home ground.
If anyone finds a video that someone's recorded from the stadium, let me know. I'd love to see it.
How? Explain. If you're referring to the Sam Mitchell 50 metre penalty given to Jarryd McVeigh, in any other game it would have been a 50 metre penalty, so why not the weekend, because it was a Grand Final. Sydney virtually had to win a lottery to get a free kick on Saturday.
Are they playing on a quidditch pitch?
What a game
The best in the world
What sport is this?
I had no idea what was going on, but I liked the red team for some reason so I was happy
Here's my logic. In both 1971 and 2008, Hawks won with relatively young teams. Both of the following years, they didn't make the finals. LOVED WATCHING BUDDY CRY LIKE A LITTLE BABY GIRL!!!!!! GO SWANS!!!

I can't tell if those are compression shorts or really extreme tan lines.
What game is this?
They've done it! What a team! It's that culture the BLOODS. That's what it's all about!
Gotta love Bruce McAvaney!
i get your point and they are half syd and half melb nt just a melb team playing in sydney. but we are known as a sydney club now... everyone refers to us as a sydney club.
Where's Franklin and Rioli from ?
@whereizcheezburger Yeah something along the lines of that. Amazing courage.
It was bloody unreal.
Australian rules football
what did you think it was?
I reckon out of every other sport, AFL is the best when it's really close
the umpire is signalling a goal has been scored after he does that he waves two flags to signal to the other goal umpire (whose about 1/4 of a kilometre away) that a goal has been scored and they add it to their scoresheet to verify after the match.
Completely true.
No your not alone.
look where malceski left feet is when he kicked it. like over everyones head lmao
Reminds me of the first time I watched football
What a game
Sydney deserved to win, and it is a great moment for them, but as a 15 year old hawks supporter, the depression I am feeling right now is worse than anything I have ever experienced. We'll be back next year. I am Always Hawthorn.
YOU BEAUTY !!!!!!!!
Final Siren brings a tear to my eye every time :'-) Great Memories
you have a point
