ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Shylmagoghnar is a Dutch metal project originally founded by Skirge and Nimblkorg. After two albums together, Skirge had to part with the band for personal life reasons, and Convergence was created as a solo effort by Nimblkorg.
Convergence is the ending of the original trilogy-in-spirit, which started with Emergence in 2014, and Transience in 2018. It is a concept album about overcoming the journey of death.
This album is dedicated to my mother, José Bertrand-Janssen, who passed away in 2022. Rest is peace mom.
Convergence was released on the 10th of November 2023 through Napalm Records.
This project originally started out as atmospheric black metal, mixed with melodic death metal, but over the years the sound took on a life of its own, so I leave the genre definitions up to the listener. No matter how you would define it, I hope you will experience the music as a personal journey.
My heartfelt thanks go out to anyone and everyone who has supported this band in word and deed, making the creation of these albums possible. You have had a massive positive impact on my life, and mere words cannot do justice to how strongly I feel about that.

@@Shylmagoghnar This actually is a huge problem. Had to fight a Voidcrusher Daemon when I had a friend over and put on the LP while telling about the music. That's fine when it happens once, but this is the 5th time this happened last year and I'm running out of places to bury the bodies. Voidcrushers aren't small. So.. thanks for that.

I sincerely hope that you were able to process the loss of your beloved mother through music. 🖤 I now own all three albums and am happy. Unfortunately, it's sad that you can't enjoy this music at a concert. I would fly around the world just for this moment. You have created something great. Be proud of it!
Thank you for your kind and soothing words. Yes, I think I can safely say by now that this has had a positive impact on dealing with her loss. It was an incredibly grim year, but my family and I stood together, both during and after that horrible event. I am proud of that, as I'm sure this is exactly how she would have wanted us to deal with it. I am also proud and relieved that I got to share her name with the world through this music. Without her it would have never existed so it feels like a bittersweet, yet fitting way to end the original trilogy.
And yes, I do regret that I am this way sometimes. I know there are many people who would love for me to go on tour. Alas, I just don't have that in me. It's hard to put into words, but I only feel whole when I'm withdrawn. Nonetheless, I do take it as a huge compliment that you feel this way

Your album Emergence fond it's way to me long ago in the night living in my car at the time. It really was magical that late night in the car. I thank yuo for that. Had a big system in the bicycle shop that I worked at most of my life. I worked late so I could play loud and did. Many many bicycles were built listening to Emergence. Convergence has the same magic . Well done! You built a nice big sound stage here. Listening to this in a basement. The music stage is coming out of the ground from the other side of the walls. 😊 nice!
Thank you! Yes, that is very recognizable to me, as I used to record and mix in my home basement studio! I know exactly what you mean. Nowadays my monitoring is better than it used to be, so I'm able to push the limits further without it sounding off (hopefully). I'm glad that's working out :D

I was listening to this album for the whole month. First two weeks I couldn't listen to anything except of it because it seemed to me so much perfect and better than any music I listened before. Bravo, my friend, you lived up to all of my expectations on this album. Now it'll become a new part of my life and will bring me a lot of bright memories in the future. It seemed like you've created the whole new genre not only in metal but in music at all.
I also want to note some tracks, such as "Gardens of the Erased" which was very extraordinary for me to listen but I liked it so much. It seemed like a video game soundtrack which is not surprising due to your passion for videogames and their soundtracks. And "Infinion" with "I Hear the Mountain Weep" became my most favourite instrumentals, along with "Life" and "The Cosmic Tide".
In conclusion I want to thank you again for your music and will be waiting for your new releases patiently.

Hey Nimbl; sorry to hear about your loss; I almost lost my own Mum to Lymphoma in 2022. Life can be brutal like that. I'm glad she made it through, that must have been terrifying for you all. Yes you hear about all these awful things that can happen to you, yet they always seem to very far away... until they are suddenly right in front of you. I really wished for her to have a longer time with her grandchildren as those were the joy of her life and she only got to know them for a year.
As for me, I can say with some clarity now that I think I'm doing better since then, thank you very kindly! I still think of her every day of course, but it's mostly the good memories that take precedence now and they help me a lot :) All the best to you and your loved ones, and many thanks for your kind words!! \m/

Thank you! Yes you are right - JMJ was my first favorite musician when I was a kid, and that final song was a spontaneous one-take-per-instrument jam. I was surprised myself that quite a bit of that style came out, despite not having listened to that album for probably two decades. Apparently it was more deeply ingrained than I was aware of!
I doubted for a moment whether I should use it, but ultimately I consider it to be an ode to one of the giants whose shoulders I'm standing on. Without people like him, I might have never discovered how much I love musical experimentation.

Thank you! You know what, that was my own reaction to the song as well. It's not something I would usually listen to at all, but it somehow felt perfectly natural to me to put it on there. Reactions to it have been more positive than I expected. It's great to know that I can make a move like that on an album without losing everyone. That will end up giving this project much more longevity than if I felt forced to produce the same song over and over again.

Many thanks! That balance between instrumental and vocal tracks is something I was happy with right from the first album, so I'll probably stick with it for the time being. It's become a bit of a trademark to the project by now :)

Very Shylmagoghnar and yet very different. Innovative, smart, and daring. This unorthodox approach is interesting but it also makes the album need more time to grow on you, as opposed to Emergence's instant resonance. I hope you guys evolve uncommercially and leave a genuine artistic impact on scene. Great potential. The sky is the limit 🤘

For the second and third album I had more trust in the listeners to be able to discern these things and not be a in a rush to absorb everything in one go. People here oftentimes pick up on even the most minute hidden details and it's always a positive surprise to me.
