  • Today I wander around Edinburgh in an effort to take the nicest photos. From Victoria Street, the Edinburgh Castle, and Circus Lane, I got some killer shots; come join!

    👀 DETAILS OF MY TRIP
I stayed at a hotel called Motel One right in the center of Edinburgh. I absolutely recommend it! Being called a "motel" I was doubtful as in America that is not a good place to stay unless desparate, but the rooms were much cheaper than other hotels nearby, the breakfast was amazing, and the room and view was massive. 10/10
I had lunch at a place called Pantry near Circus Lane. Very delicious and fresh. I really enjoyed it!
Dinner was at a pub in central called the Royal Mile. The whole thing was amazing and had such a lovely feel to it. Would recommend if you're looking for an authentic experience and amazing Haggis.
The photo spots I went to were Grassmarket, Victoria Street, Edinburgh Castle (and many little streets pointing towards Edinburgh Castle), Circus Lane, Calton Hill, and the Museum of Scotland.

If you're new to my channel and videos, hi! I'm Evan Edinger, and I make travel vlogs of all the exciting places I visit. I started travel vlogging about 8 years ago because I wanted to see more of the world and be able to watch back some of my adventures. I also make weekly comedy videos every Sunday on my main channel usually revolving around funny differences between British vs American things! Anyway, thanks for stopping by!

You know... I've lived in Edinburgh for 20 years, & have never once walked along Circus Lane! I drive past the end of it every morning. I need to park up one day & go for a wander! Also, well done on the Mars Bar...if you come back at Easter you'll get a deep fried Creme Egg! 🥚

A couple of recommendations from a resident of Edinburgh: if you want to see how absurdly gorgeous the city can look in the rain, seek out ‘The illusionist’ (2010 animated film), and for the best views of the city, head up Blackford Hill. As a photographer, you’d probably appreciate the footpath leading there through Marchmont, up the side of the Grange cemetery.

I lived on St Stephen Street next to Circus Lane for a while and tourists standing in the middle of the road taking pictures of the church was probably my number 1 gripe of the area :) So glad I didn't live on Circus Lane itself. Also the area you were lunching in was not Stockton, but Stockbridge :)

Almost... there's no R in Calton Hill so it's just cal-ton (but we're used to our places being mispronounced - Cockburn St as Evan said, also Princes Street often becomes Princess, Americans usually can't pronounce Edinburgh right, and they get Glasgow wrong too!)

Wowee indeed! God I knew going into this video I was going to be all yearning and wistful, what I was not prepared for was to cry. I have nearly the same shot taken during the 2017 Fringe of your first photo in this vid; yours being clearly superior. Simply put the Galaxy Samsung S6 image quality + compression from moving to a newer cell device pales in comparison to the fantastic camera you have! Who knew being semi-blindsided with emotion because of Victoria St. was going to happen today, because I sure didn't. Anyways, truly amazing photos, and no doubt I'll come re-watch this from time to time simply because I'm sad I'll probably never make it back to Edinburgh or Scotland at all in my lifetime.

Fun fact down the road in Glasgow we also have a statue with a cone on his head, the duke of Wellington, it is a point of pride with Glaswegians that he should always have his cone. When the common wealth games came to Glasgow a few years ago the council were going to change the shape of his head so a cone wouldn’t stay on his head but there was such an uproar about it they had to keep it the same. It is such a well known symbol of Glasgow. We Scots love our coned statues

Man, does this bring back memories. I did a 2 week study abroad trip to Edinburgh my second year of college in May 2017. It was my first trip out of the states, as well as my first flight. I fell in love with Scotland while over there. Most of my school work has become UK/Scotland focused (history/government major). I still don't know British/Scottish history and politics as well as I do the American equivalent, but I'm working on it. I'm hoping to maybe get back to Scotland once Covid-19 is more contained, probably to do some studying or an internship.

I was in Edinburgh in 2014 and really wish I had spent more time there. I was on a package tour and lucky for me the hotel we were booked in had a horrible sewerage overflow. Lucky because they upgraded us to the Caledonian hotel for the night - where my room had a direct view of the castle. I only had an afternoon to wonder around as I had a ticket to the Tattoo that evening - which was awesome. Waiting in the queue to get in made me feel super young - as my hair was the least grey in the whole queue. :-)

Edinburgh is an unusual city for me. I've been and done some tourist-y things, but I haven't done the railway station or any of the nearby railways. Usually I do the railways and not the tourist-y things. My girlfriend has been up there for a few days, but I couldn't join her because I had a brass band contest in Cheltenham on sunday, so she's now seen 3 railway things I haven't (classes 334 and 380 plus the Inter7City HST sets) as well as riding on two I haven't (classes 380 and 385).

Evan, I was worried when in your 'Pros and Cons of Moving to Liverpool' video you said you'd been to cities all over the UK and then rattled off a list of only English cities... Thank heavens you've made it over the border too...! I'm actually a resident of Edinburgh - so if you want to come again and stay with somebody who can show you many more off the beaten trail places to please your eyes, feel free to give me a shout! Moreover, I love my country (including many of the English and Welsh bits); but the great thing about Scotland is just how compact it all is in all; its' diversity; and even by public transport, there's almost nowhere you can't reach in a day. And it just so happens I know most of that too - not to mention how to get there, etc.. For me it is just a pleasurable pastime to show people around - whereas those who've been on the receiving end of my bespoke outings say I should do it as a business - and keep coming back for more and more...! Perhaps you've been to Glasgow and Stirling too - but how about Dundee? Now there's a city to photograph if ever these was one...! No - I'd not be in competition with you, because I can't hold a camera and take pictures for toffee - only about 8% of what I take are even repairable - and even that's only by coincidence. I do however have a photographic memory; which is why I know all this stuff so well! So bring your technical equipment that is mostly far beyond my understanding and interest - and I shall be your guide! Industrial archaeology, social history, romantic moods of nature and dramatic landscapes a speciality - with much else besides, such as what's feasible to combine into a single day trip; the best places to stay overnight and so forth...!!
