I loved my fold 4 but at some point it stopped opening all the way and had to send it to Samsung. I was left with no phone for two weeks. I jumped shipped to S23Ultra and kinda regretted it. Foldables breath new life into mobile phones and that fold 4 honestly was the best time I spent with a phone in years!

Owned Fold 1, then 2, then sold it, then back to Fold 2, and honestly speaking, I don't see myself going back anytime soon.
Love foldables, they transformed the smartphone experience for me at a time when I thought phones are all the same.
I considered upgrading but trying both Fold 3 and 4, I did not see myself utilizing the additional features, maybe if Samsung brings something different to the foldables, sadly the Fold 5 is not there yet...

I regretted using the s22 over my fold 3 and just decided that I need 1 regular phone and 1 fold just in case I have to send it in and to keep it away from scenarios like when I need to go to the beach or do something outdoorsy. So now I have the s23 ultra and the fold 4 and will upgrade to the fold 5 but not the s24 ultra.

I have played with a fold4, wanted it, got s23u because of the sd chip in the UK and currently using it, love it. But I put preorder in for fold5 to hopefully arrive this week, because I'm ready for a new way to use my phone and have a ton us uses for the 2 screen layout.

Fortunately the inner screens on foldables are very safe. Not only from being closed most times but they have that lip around the bezel. Most breaks I've seen are the crack down the middle and the occasional grain of sand getting in and somehow punching it out from underneath.

I know a lot of people working in IT who use the fold to make accessing computers remotely more convenient. None of those guys have had issues. I know someone with a family who is out and about a lot and their fold didn't hold up as well, but they purchased insurance. Which I guess he knew he would need in that case, cus usually most people know the insurance isn't really worth it. I guess because of the perception more people might also insure foldables. They're expensive too, so I get it. If you have that kinda money, you probably can afford the insurance and have peace of mind. Although I'm looking to get a refurb foold 4 cus they are getting CHEAP.

I used my Fold 4 without a case for a year with no issues. Like you mentioned about yours. At times it would not open all the way. I have been impressed with how durable it has been. Now I am using the Pixel Fold. I am ready to see how well it will last for the next year.

I'm using a z3 fold from day 1. No cover or screen protector used. Many many floor drops (more than 20 over the years). External screen Corners got chips damage, small cracks and even small shards and pieces of screen broken away. Eventually lines running on external screen on one side but screen still fully functions, is usable. Screen video and images are still fully visible etc and touch still fully works. Internal screen, factory fitted screen protector started peeling away after 12/18/months, so I completely peeled it away. Internal screen has one dead pixel other than that fully fuctional. Phone is still superfast, fun to use and still going.

I have a Fold 2 and a good solution for dust I found is using a cloth pouch (the ones used for glasses), and no issues with dust at all.
It doesn't add bulk or weight, cheap, I got a pack of 10 and replace the pouch whenever I feel It ran its course.
However, it will not save the device from drops, obviously.

Well, thats what I realised when I seen some people with Flip's - because main screen is foldable, it will have significantly more open-close action than Fold. As Fold have second screen and it is used more than inner, biger screen. I bet you will have better expirience with Fold's screen protection.

I got mine when it first came out, been rocking it with and without the case depending on my mood and if I need the pen with me. I haven't seen really any issues with mine. I just have to be conscious to not place it into any area with dust or water. I took a dive into a pool with my phone in my pocket and it killed it instantly. No problems other than the dust and water resistance

  • @larinow

Hi, the most common issue is the inner screen not detecting the s-pen. i've had to replace my inner screen twice because of this issue(the touch function is working fine, it's just not detecting my s-pen). you will definately need to try to use a s-pen on it to find out if it still works after 1 year.

Funny you made this, I just ordered a fold 4 to replace my fold 3. I like that the 5 folds flat- but that's about the only new and improved thing, (and probably a small battery life bump) and not worth another $700 to me. I've dropped my fold 3 like 20 times at work (with slim case and a few without) and holding up just fine. They're actually pretty tough devices.

I'm a serial dropper, since I sometimes lose control of my hands because of nerve damage in my shoulders (my Pixel 5 was 2 months old when I dropped it 3 feet when trying to get out of a mini bus, luckily I only got a crack in the screen), but besides always wearing a case on my phone, I've now taught myself to always have a strap clipped to it, so I can hook it around my neck or to my pants so it won't fall to the ground.
I've also started using a ring that's similar to popsocket and it makes holding the phone so much easier.
But like you said, the phones aren't that fragile, one reason I like Mr Mobile is because he's a serial dropper like me and he tends to include the drops in his videos and if HE can daily drive foldables for years now, then I can too :)
Also Jerryrigseverything does test the phones (and sometimes breaks them) and for foldables he even has a "sand test"... it's painful to watch but also fun :P

Had mine since launch and the screen protector started peeling a few weeks ago and I don't have anywhere close by to get it replaced, so I took it off, I honestly like the phone alot better without the stock protector now. My biggest issue is that the phone doesn't open all the way, maybe 177 degrees, but that little bit is super distracting to me. Hopefully the screen doesn't break before the fold 6 comes out and I can trade it in for that (if they actually make real improvements for the 6).

After 5 months from purchasing my fold 4, the inside screen broke. It was probably my fault for using the phone opened during a ski trip and was out at night when it was below 10 celsius. It didn't seem to have any issue but a month afterwards, the screen died. Knowing how finicky the inside screen can be, I''ll still be switching to the newer variant of the fold series. You can't beat the screen size when you need it.

I broke my Z Fold 4 outer screen once in a year, but the real damage has been to the external hinge mechanism, which has many dings on it. I used case only on the back of the phone. My feeling is that it's easier to drop a tall thin phone like the Z Fold 4 than the Pixel Fold, it being shorter and wider?

as for the comment of working in dirt and places like.
I have owed zfold1-4.and both duo's. and now the pixel fold. I love the foldable design.
I work in VERY dirty places. dirt and even lead dust. but I have NEVER had an issue with dirt causing the phone to break. my advice get a good case with a hinge cover. use the outer screen as much as possible while in the dirty places and reserve opening it for after work/breaks/ ect.
I constantly have dust on the inner screens, but can wipe it off easily with my shirt, and I've never had a scratch on an inner screen. everyone is so concerned about the fragility of these devices, but if they can keep up with me in my dirty ass job then they'll be fine for the common user. don't baby them but also don't drop kick the damn thing accross the room.

But really, that's something that is so minor. You replace it and it's back to new. Never had any dings, scuffs, or micro scratches. And I draw on it a lot since I'm an artist. Main reason I'm trading in my ZF4 to ZF5 with minimal change is screen brightness I'm outside a lot use it to read and watch videos hard to do with how dim it is outside in the south in the summer the 1750 nits will make it as bright as s23 u which is readable in sun. Also better battery with processor same reason I'm upgrading my tab s8 ultra to tab s9 ultra brightness and dynamic amoled 2x also SD card slot water resistance sense I'm outside alot etc. Snap 8 gen 2 also better battery with new chip. Trading my gw5 pro for w6 classic even with 40 hour battery nerd from 80 to 40 hours. I mostly use garmin watches so this time I got the silver for fancy situations

I also upgraded from F4 to F5. Also got the silver W6. Samsung did the same with the Note before. Had few visible changes. After using the new phone, you can tell they fixed a lot of small things and the upgrade was more noticeable. The phone felt more "polished."

Why anybody ist testing those displays in freezing cold temperatures. Specially waiting 1min, after the folding, to let the display cool down again, because the movement warms the Display up, when you do it to fast. I have changed jn 2years the display inside twice and i think they are not durable in cold temperatures und lose there flexibility.

Unfortunately, they're not listening to us. There's been multiple topics on the Z Fold reddit (one led by myself) with large amounts of responses/votes to indicate that the overwhelming majority of owners' Z Folds are fine.
But we all know this game... the confirmation bias game. People who want to believe Z Fold is fragile little babby thing will find a handful of cracked screen stories and let that be the beginning and end of the data they take in when forming their perception of the device.
And even more unfortunately... it's gonna keep happening as long the bulk of foldable discussion comes from people who have no long term experience with foldables.

They'd sell me a used Black Z Fold4 for $400.00 not even a 512gb Beige one like mine! But a Black 256gb! Hence ASS-urion! Through the worst Network in the bis AT&T!

According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 should be able to survive at least 200,000 folds, a number the company estimates to be around five years of use. This rounds to about 110 folds per day. By then your battery is likely to have pushed you to a new phone already. Most people buying premium phones have moved on sooner than that too.
