Today I talk about the VTV Digiamp which is a 400 WPC into 8 Ohms and 600 WPC powerhouse into 4 ohms. This is a simple amp with only one input, a digital COAX input and it uses GaN Class D tech. This is for your streamer and nothing else is needed besides speakers and some speaker cables. No DAC is needed here as this amp converts the digital to analog inside of the amp itself. Seeing that I just reviewed a $24,000 GaN based Class D streaming setup of AGD Duet, AGD Alto II and the HiFi Rose RS130 Streamer...why not look at a lower cost option?
This VTV amp is made here in the USA and has gobs of power to drive almost any speaker for just $1500.
Enjoy!

It started from Lyngdorf , then Peach (with Gan) and now the VTV! This generation of hifi lovers are so lucky! If you replace the WiiM with a top end streamer...........
Hudf...you are cooking right now! Content every other day!! Glad you trying the VTV...I have been looking at this and the AGD amps for the last two years! Even the owner of Pearl Acoustics speakers, Harvey Lovegrove, even vouches for this amp
You need to also test the Orchard Audio Starkrimson. US made as well. It uses RCA or XLR inputs.
Shootout with Orchard?
I agree!! I have the pecan pie and it’s amazing
Thanks for the micca cables review, sound better and open, detail, clear
If you make the mistake of not having the volume properly set upon signal introduction, POOF goes the speaker. If your streamer or other digital source defaults to full output, that will be a very bad day.
100% pure nightmare😮😮
Don't hook up the speakers until you know the volume control is working properly.
That’s why I will never go that route. 😊
@@socratesliriano9852wouldn't you have to have another system to do that?
How is this strictly an issue with this implementation? Your comment doesn’t really make sense. Why would the volume be all the way up unless someone doesnt like your gear.
I'm confused, class d isn't digital. People think class d is digital but it's not and you need a dac its in the wiim . You don't need a better streamer you need a pre amp and a better dac and you would have something
GaN is digital. One digital input.
@@corymorris5800 ok thanks I was confused about that.
Peachtree has a very, very similar amp.
I wonder how a nice CD transport, like my Audiolab 9000, would sound with this amp 🤔
As someone with a very modest collection of 593 music CDs, I appreciate this comment.
Depends if that transport doesn't have volume control it would sound very loud and short.
Adding the iFi LAN iSilencer & iFi SP/DiF iPurifier2 accessories to the WiiM might well elevate the fidelity. Plus the VTV amp's fidelity can later be improved with Puritan Audio's AC eq. & the Swiss Digital 'Fusebox'.
I would be curious how the amp performed with a more costly/ better streamer
I don't think streamers make much of difference it's more the dac
Ah, tx
Can you use the line out of the wiim for a subwoofer in this setup?
I dont know if its variable, or can run at the same time as the other outputs. I thinkmits better to run your Sub from your ampmor speakers, if your Sub can connect that way.
It would have been interesting to see how much/little of an improvement upgrading the streamer would have made on the sound? How far off would the VTV be from the AGD's with a better streamer? 🤔
I think some of these more affordable GAN amps or even the Purify Nilai DIY kits could be the next step sound wise compared to WiiM Amp types. If they made an integrated version it could be a compelling solution.
Any idea on why they didn't make an analog input version too? I could see the internal dac/pre amp of that unit holding it back.
Curious how this amp would match up against Bruno’s Purifi amps. Anyone do a comparison?
You can hook up a turntable phono preamp to the Wiim and a CD player.
i don't get these newfangled streaming gadgets. I just use an old laptop for streaming and music server.
I know where you’re coming from been there but that wimm pro streamer for $200 you just can’t beat it. It’s very versatile and you could put away that laptop has RCA’s in and out coaxial optical and much more.
The WiiM ultra is even better!!
Bruno Putzeys says GaN Class D only makes sense above 200 watts. This is that so fine. Why 400 watts is needed is another question but maybe not an important one. It does the job well. However I wonder about the prospective reliability longer term. Let's say plus 4 years.
200v it's the voltage rating
The Peachtree Audio GaN1 is similar in functionality but is a GaN power DAC meaning it converts digital to digital and send that to the speakers. Very clean sound.
What?
The vtv is also a "digital" amp converting PCM to PWM.
What about preamp and streamer /dac combo
Of course you can do that
Why didnt you put the Higi Rose into it????
No volume control on his particular HiFi Rose unit. The WiiM has that feature.
Does anyone know whether this works with eversolo dmp a6 streamers?
Yes it would..
Female Analog to coaxial adapter will be needed
@@BoRerunnno, all you need is a coaxial cable. I’ve used this with the DMP A6 as well as the A8. It is a power house amp. You would be surprised that it’s class D.
I wonder how well it handles those digital dropouts? You know when you get a giant pop and all of your ceramic drivers shatter.
Never heard of or experienced that in life, on any amp I’ve tested or owned, digital dropouts. Didn’t experience it here either.
@@HiFiHuff The topping DAC I have had a firmware problem where somehow it would just get into a weird click drop scenario occasionally. Also have a bunch of digital equipment that isn't always transmitting the clock and only transmits the clock when there's audio so when something pauses there's a period where the sync has to start again when the clock starts transmitting again and you can also experience pops then. Also if your cables are very long which they may be in a pro audio sense sometimes you get interference and that also causes issues of course. Plus of course I have been cursed by gypsies so what can I do?
Never had this happen, not sure what you are doing. But also I always put a preamp between my dac and my amp.
Thanks
digital only is a tight spot ... not the best.
I use a streamer with two active monitor speakers. Skip the seperate power amp all together. Total cost 500$ with adam audio t7v. Sound amazing. And even less cables 😂 no speaker cables required 😂
My other syatem is all seperates 😂
