@@joshuasilva6542 I think you're right, but if you have people passionate about your brand you sell more cars. I'm sure the old rally teams cost them a fortune but the old Liberty Turbos and WRX got them a generation of fans and they built a reputation on it. Nowadays a WRX is a borderline embarrassment.
I had a 2.0 L 2024 Crosstrek for a loaner. It was fine. Everyone isn't obsessed with going 0 - 60 in 7 seconds. How fast do you need to accelerate just to get to the next stop light?
The problem with so-called “enthusiasts” is that they only see their portion of the world. The Crosstrek was never meant to be a fast car. What isn’t mentioned is how capable is the Crosstrek at handling off-road duties. Or how safe of a car it is. It’s as if all these so-called “enthusiasts” can talk about is straight line acceleration. Subaru sells way more “boring” cars than so-called “enthusiast cars” and they will follow where the $$$ leads.
@@ematcionNo, it’s just gutless and it spoils what would otherwise be a fine car. It’s sh.t for country road overtaking …. of course you’d wait 25km for a passing lane, only to get past 25m before it ends.
Fine if you are happy to drive at whatever speed the truck/caravan/90 year old in a Prius in front of you is doing. The issue with an almost 8 second 60-110 time is that you need half of Australia to overtake anything on a 2-lane road.

@@oddities-whatnot You sound like a problem if you are doing 40 in a 50 zone. Also we seem to have lots of clapped out cars and trucks spewing noxious clouds, I'll be f*ed if I'm going to sit behind them breathing that shit for a second longer than I safely have to.
I'm in my 60's, with a crook back etc. I need an accessible car. 220 of ground clearance sounds great. My family is in NSW & Vic country; some on bad gravel roads. AWD; a plus. It could be my car, IF, it had a full-size spare and an engine that wasn't so pathetic! Don't even get me talking about Suby's pretend mild-hybrid, that does nothing.
Another great video, not afraid to give potential buyers an idea of exactly what to expect. With regards to the space saver (seriously bad idea for an off road capable vehicle), is the wheel well of a size that could at least accommodate a full size spare, or like Mazda, is the diameter too small. This would be interesting to know on any vehicle fitted with a space saver from the factory. In the Mazda for example, it is impossible to locate a full size wheel in the area designed for the spare. Not only does this prevent the owner from buying their own full size to place in there, it also means that you have next to no where to place the punctured tyre should you need to use the spare.
I looked a Tesla Model Y. When I asked the salesman where the spare was, he pointed me towards the tin of squirt. After I gave him a look of shock, he added that they offered a 4- year road-side service. I said neither would be suitable on a country dirt road. He said for $300 they could provide a full-size spare. The only problem was there was no where to put it.....maybe on the backseat, secured by a passenger seatbelt?
Subaru has admitted themselves that if they fitted it with the 2.5 it would take all the sales away from the Forester. Essentially rendering the Forester obsolete considering the xv/Crosstrek outsells it 3 to 1 in this country. Its the same story with the manual gearboxes, they cant offer all the driver aids with a manual gearbox (auto emergency braking etc would cause it to stall) so bye bye manuals. This has definitely hurt them in the European market where its traditionaly a manual gearbox market.
the 2.5 version of the Crosstrek already exists and is available in the North American market, Canada and the United States, both versions are available here, 2.0 and 2.5. I don't understand why it shouldn't be sold in Europe too🤷
The speed comparison at the start. The Crosstrek is a lot heavier than the Corolla. Power to weight ratio is lower on the Subaru because of this. Im in Britain and would be better off buying a used new shape Outback for less than the cost of a new Crosstrek. You also get the 2.5 engine which is great but it’s only available on the Outback over here.
My 2.0 crosstrek is comfortable and rides really nice. It is actually quicker on the start than the 2.5 bigger motor. Didn’t think there was much difference between the two engines actually. The 2.0 L was a little quieter inside, sunroof maybe the reason. The Colors are Better with the interior as well.
0 to 40 your right there isn't much difference. 40 to 70 is very different. Accelerate on an interstate ramp, or passing on interstate is quite different. I've owned both.
slow thats for sure, but people absolutely love these things, they litter the countryside in Victoria, driven mostly by certain demographic, but they are cashed up and loyal.
That is just what a reliable CVT does. To make it reliable, the pulleys can't be too small because smaller pulleys means less contact area means more likely to slip when torque is applied. Also the transmission can't be huge because the space and weight. As a result, you have a CVT that has pretty bad lowest ratio thus slow to get off the line. It's like starting in 2nd gear. Apart from 0-60, the 2.0L engine is absolutely fine for 90% of the daily use. Even in a bigger body like the Forester, I find it perfectly fine.
Something not right with brake hold launch. Doing that should put into proper 'cvt' mode so constant rpm, and also shorten the "first" gear(pulley) ratio.. I'm guessing you don't have the car still ? Also when accelerating from a roll , i.e 60-100 , you can lift slightly and floor it again to make it "kick down" no idea why its programmed like this ,seems stupid , but does help to know it's there.
Why not suggest it to Subaru ? Im pretty sure they have already thought of it though. It is a NA 2 litre for a reason. Its not meant to be fast. People need to stop comparing this to other cars or Subarus of the past. Emission controls exist, especially in Europe they are quite strict and thats why they cant go back to the days of 2 litre turbos etc on boxer engines, they have far too high emissions. Buy a Tesla if it makes you feel any better, bit more power for you.
It is a bit ironic that you compared a Cotolla to the 2.0 Crosstrek. Toyota owns or has a stake in Subaru and may be influencing engine options. Do you get the 2.5L in Oz? It is a bit better but def not fun. Seems every car is going EV now too. Subie next??
