I love this format. It's so cool to see what each player thinks is happening. It's also eye opening to see that 1000-1500 rated players are pretty often seeing the same ideas you are, just a bit less accurately. Good show putting the recap on their channels and helping them grow.
it'd be interesting if you did this type of video with someone who has a comparable rating to you. Two NM going head to head with a completely different thought process.
2nd Game: Without engine checking (as I don’t have an engine available currently), correct after 6…Qg6 is probably 7.Nb5; the idea being a counterattack against c7, and discovering an attack on the c5 bishop. This is a common idea in many Scotch lines where black tries targeting the white e4 pawn too early. 5.Be3 reinforces d4 and immediately threatens to win a piece via NxN followed by BxB. 5…Qf6 parries this, but at the cost of leaving c7 undefended. So as examples: 6…Qg6 7.Nb5,Bb6? 8.Bxb6,cxb6 9.Nc7+ 6…Qg6 7.Nb5,d6? 8.Bxc5,dxc5 9.Nxc7+ 6…Qg6 7.Nb5,Bd6 8.Nxd6 and white’s better 6…Qg6 7.Nb5,Kd8?? 8.Bxc5 6…Qg6 7.Nb5,Qxe4 8.Nxc7+,Kd8 9.Nxa8,Bxe3 10.fxe3,Qxe3+ (No engine use so any mistakes are mine)
In that second game, Voltz's maniacal focus on saving the g2 pawn led to his losing piece after piece. Interesting to see how that tunnel vision can affect an entire game. I mean, the main indicator to me was this: HE NEVER CASTLED. When the guy with the lower ELO doesn't castle, doom is the only outcome.
Lol you are correct when I was watching this back after I realised that maybe I should’ve just given the pawn up for some counter play. I just didn’t want to give him anything because I’m the weaker player
Lots of respect to @VoltzChess for putting himself out there. Intimidating enough to play with such a rating imbalance, even more so knowing there will be an audience. 🙌
I hope you don’t think I was criticizing you in a bad way! Just pointing out how when people play people higher rated that the nerves come out and mistakes are easier to make. I would have been mated in 10 or less moves for sure, you did great! I checked out your channel so keep an eye on your email 😃@@VoltzChess
Well, in the first game he played clearly below 1500 standards, it seems, but he was also disappointed of himself. But we all play poorly sometimes and have also crushed 1500-s like that once and a while when they have a really bad day. When they have good day, I have to fight hard to be able to win. If they have their good day at the same time as I have my bad day, they beat me.
@userac-xpg, Nelson's rating is much higher than his. I know rating isn't always accurate to describe a person's skill, but seeing the numbers you get scared. Starting last year March and now a player of 1199, I know that whenever I see players with 1800, I get super nervous, and sometimes I can't even think straight. It's also unsettling when you KNOW your opponent is near winning
Can you do more rapid rating climb where you explain just like before. Adding more training data. Those videos were amazing. They helped alot and I'm watching them over and over again.
Hi Nelson. New to chess but thanks to your videos I have climbed to the top of the Bronze League. Keep going with your brilliant style and teaching skills - Manflex69
At 45:51 , what happens if White puts his bishop on e2 now instead of kf3? I see that it threatens Black's queen and clears the way for castling queen side. Idk if there'll be time to do that castle though, or where black's queen goes.
I'm gonna be honest, earlier I thought, you were not worth your rating Nelson, but as I've watched more and more of you, I've seen you're actually very good chess player and your thoughts make so much sense. You're not trying to be the flashiest one, and I appreciate it. You've impressed me and you've proved me wrong
Totally agree - all the typical gotham, botez, hikaru content is so tired.. not really any learning. Nelson is great every time (except the puzzles are bit more of a novelty).
could you do this same thing but perhaps get like a 500 and a 700 to play eachother and explain their thinking process. For lower rated players like myself this would be helpful(im at a 459 right now)
don’t over complicate your moves for a simple pawn. Sometimes abandoning a pawn to get pieces out to a more active square is the way to go as nelson always says ”doninreally care about that pawn”.

@52:19 and Nelson used the "someone was at the door" gambit!
and he sacrificed..... HIS TIMEEEEEEEE!!!!!
😂 I really thought he was cooking something the whole time
@@VoltzChess GGs on your game with Nelson!
@@VoltzChess yeah, definitely cooking rice...
14:55 If black plays Nf6 you respond Qe2+ whatever he does to get out of check you can take the rook with Nh8 while getting your queen to safety.
Nelson, after watching dozens of your videos you have made me a better chess player. Thank you.

Please make how a 1900 think because i am 1900 and i want to improve
I’m surprised that a 1560 player gets the ponziani and says “hunnn I think I’ve seen that before”
52:00 was hilarious
I thought he was in deep thought man 😂
I think he was nervous to play Nelson. You could tell he wasn’t thinking straight when he kept mentioning moving his queen to d7 around 16:40 😬
I actually jumped into that game with 0 warm up that's why I wasn't thinking straight lol. But should've done better first game.

Complicated positions in both games
a 1500+ rated player should have made much better moves. Nf6 was an obvious key defensive move at 16:26
@@userac-xpgI’m sure you’ve never blundered. I saw the idea, I just missed it when it was my turn. Happens
28:30 "I think I have to play ....d5" Engine agrees: Only move that gives an (slight) advantage to black.
As a 1300, this is humbling to see someone almost 1600, where I aspire to be get blown off the board two games in a row.
that person isn't really a 1500. more like 1200
@@userac-xpgyeah I’ve no idea how he’s got to that rating by being confused about the ponziani

Qxe1# would have been rubbing salt in the wounds. Which would you have played? Did Nelson miss it?
This format is GOLDEN!!!
if i played, i would have 2 goals. 1, castle into a well defended position and 2. trade queens
Play Martín, but he can move twice at a time

Hello Nelson, @Chess Vibes
How are u making the selection for the opponents in these videos and what can I do to feature as well. I am rated mid 1330.

Bishop on e5 is lost. And White's other Bishop is pinned so can't take on h5

With the difference in ELO, shouldn't Nelson's opponent get to play white and have more time than he does?
voltz stop thinking a minute when you just have to recapture a piece 😅
Most of all, he does not go so fast that players well under that level can't see anything, tks so much for giving poor I time to think😊
Would love to play you Nelson! If you need another 1700 hmu.
It's a waste of time to analyze your moves during the game.. save that for after the game and focus on your next moves.
