I used it to change the color of the tab name when the text field is empty :) Because I have 12 tabs and all of them have text fields, this is a fast way to see which tab/text field still needs work. Thanks for the tip!
Sunny, thank you so much for creating these videos. I am in the process of re-designing a FileMaker database for my department. I have only attended the basic training course and am in a bit over my head. I don't have anyone to work with to learn more and I have been increasingly frustrated. These videos have helped tremendously. Would you be willing to do a video with a database that has multiple tables with multiple fields, and multiple relationships?
Thanks for your comment Crystal! Multiple relationship/table/field database will probably be too large for any single tutorial to cover. But maybe you can share with me about what you are working on and maybe I can provide you with some general pointers?
If I understand correctly I believe I can create a portal and be able to create "records" with in the portal. I also think I can have multiple portals with in my layout. Is this correct?
I would like to import records from a previously created filemaker file that did not originally have individual "on creation id" number and when I import them I want the to have the individual id numbers so that I can use that as a primary key in my portal. Can you tell me if there is a way to create the id feature after I import the file?
Really?! I was referring to the droplet function where you click onto similar color on the screen to select it. Haha I used FileMaker in window for so long I didn't even know I can do that.
Thank-you so much for creating the FileMaker videos, I reference them often. One question related to this one: on the Tab screen, what is the line that shows up with a blue circle at one end and a blue square at the other? I cannot determine what it does? Thanks!
haha,I don't know if I did't right, but it workt to click any color on the lay-out. question Sunny,I trying to make a field (dropdown list) where I can pick a color from the list, and give the colors a value of one. So I can count them. I have this excel, and with you're video's haha I will try put the whole set-up in Fm. Or do you have a nother way?
If you want a summary count of different color, here is my suggestion (i assume is nail related, so let's call your color field "nail color") You can create a list layout with (1) no "body" part and (2) just a sub summary part when sorted by "nail color", and (3) place a "summary field using count" onto the sub summary part. Then (4) open that layout and sort it by "nail color"
You suggested method will work very similar to mine too, just different approach. With your method you can make it a value of 1 and then use a summary field of "total" to get the total amount for a particular color
thx Sunny for you're input, it's indeed for the pedicure solution. the color field I use ( in excel) for booking quick overlook, green :appointment yellow :pre appointment and in excel I have it for location also. because when it all working I import all from Excel to FM.
If it's for booking, one good way is to use "conditional formatting". So let's say you have a "status" field, you can set a conditional format to make it green if its "appointment", and make it yellow if its "pre appointment" I've got another video on this topic, not sure if you seen before. I think its #3 on this series.
FileMaker Beginner Isn’t Freeze Window to avoid Windows from being updated? I was able to fix the problem though with a combination of scripts and calculation fields. Thanks.
Excellent video. You explain everything so clearly - such a gifted teacher of FM. Definitely subscribing.
Very nice tutorial! I never thought about placing calculations on a tab. I will for sure use this.

That would be really great! Would it be better to communicate via here or e-mail?
Here will be good

Not too sure what you mean by that, whats the timestamp in the video you saw it?
@@FMBeginner finally figured it out; it shows up whenever you are on a 'gradient fill' and it changes the gradient direction.

Hi! Maybe not completely related to this video, but is there a way to remember the active tab when switching between layouts?
If my memory is correct you can try using "freeze window" script step to hold the active tab.

I click on the glassviewer, and click y'r on any color on y'r lay-out
Great but why this video resolution is poor. Not as sharp as other tutorials.
