That hand sanding wore me out lol.. I used a 5inch Random orbit sander fir almost everything when I did mine except sanding the inserts back up to a gloss.. for all my rollover switches I pushed them through the playfield and slid a zip tie between them and the playfield to keep them below the surface while I worked in it..worked great and didn't have to remove any of them.. just had to drop down the leaf switches at slings to keep them from hanging when I set the hardtop down.. I also used my old soldering iron to adjust any of the holes to line them up..worked pretty well
I left the rollovers alone..had no issue, I have heard I might need to bend them up a little higher so they poke thru a bit more and the ball can actuate them..still working on repop..did all this 3 days ago and let the clear coat dry..doing repop right now..so far so good!
@@CaptNRetro Yeah you are doing the process allot quicker than I did.. im just about done with mine now.. just got all my pop bumper rebuild and flipper rebuild parts just have to put those on , rails back on, and bulbs, rubbers and plastics
Great video, Good job in fixing those hose that were to be matched up. How long did it take to do all that work? Looks good can not wait for next video.
Oh I see. You have to sand around all of the inserts before putting down the hardtop. How hard was this installation? Good to know it's an option. Seems like potentially less work than swapping an entire playfield, not having to depopulate the whole underside. Watching you scrape mylar off, maybe it's about even... Nerves of steel. Nice shirt. 👍 You could use a second set of hands there. I figured you'd finish by smoothing it down with a plastic edge of some kind.
Maintenance is a breeze compared to the facelift restoration I’m doing here.. don’t be scared.. anybody can do it.. I learned everything I know by watching UA-cam and buying a machine.. that sent me down a wormhole where I’ve had over 150 in the last 2 years alone…

You needed an extra hand when you were laying it down.. I was too scared to do it by myself lol
And that was one of my favorite parts .. removing the top film.. they make for a beautiful playing surface
You said "sanding the inserts back up to a gloss." Does that mean you DID NOT clear them? What grit sandpaper did you use?

It took 10 plus hours over 3 days
Having what you want done is what you want done.
but I don't restore machines

Yeah man this is the same product I was showing you I did on Mata Hari...allot of work but worth it and still easier than a complete playfield swap
Roughly 10 hours in total over 3 days
@@CaptNRetro Looks like it was worth it. First time, right? I've been stripping the pf on Diner, getting ready for touch-up paint and clear coat...
@@808zhu absolutely worth it.. yes.. first hardtop.. I’ve done 2 playfield swaps.. they sick as well.. this was much more manageable and easy.
@@CaptNRetro Good work. Can't wait to see everything back together and bouncing around.
Overlay. Got it.
Step 1: Remove 1 billion objects from the playfield.
1.1 billion
Looks like patient work to me. I would love to get a table, but the maintenance freaks me out.
