Phlebas the Phoenician (TS Eliot - Death by Water, from The Wasteland)

(Filmed for TikTok hence portrait) The Wasteland is an amazing poem by TS Eliot. This section, Death by Water, describes the man Phlebas, who has drowned. His worldly cares are gone, and we are invited to consider Phlebas, and our own mortality - making the most of our current strength.. I love it. Iain Banks also loved this poem, and it's referenced in much of his work, including book titles - Consider Phlebas, and Look to Windward etc.
