    1981 Peavey Back Stage 20 watts RMS, 23 pounds, spring reverb tank. I did put a 1983 square magnet eminence speaker, out of a Back Stage Plus. Loud enough for a solo gig. $50.00 I'm happy with the sound.

      Since this video I've also got a Peavey and love it. It's actually my main amp most of the time!

    I have a 1999 Polytone Mini Brute II great amp. Still cooking and never had to have a repair. I'm 80 and have been playing with I was 14.

      No problem. If you are in the UK a student of mine is currently selling a wedge 10.

    I had a polytone mini brute III in the early 80's for my Ibanez GB10 and my AS200. It sounded sterile but cut through. It worked but it had no soul. I kept that amp for ober 40 Years until I came upon a Roland cube 60. Just by chance. The new once with reverb and so on. At the beginning it sounded too harsh on the clean channel that I solomnly use. Too much treble. So I decided to open the back of the amp by driling 7 one inch holes all over the backplate. The amp istantly filled the room and cut the treble. It lost its directness that I utterly hate. The room suddenely created a natural reverb and the amp came alive. It radiated and I could play realy dynamically. Very warm sounding but defined. My settings for clean jazzguitar on the JC setting are: Bass at 5. middle to 2.5 and treble rolled down to one. Reverb on 1. It sounds much better than my polytone. More ballanced and defined. It sound even better than my Henriksen.. Put it away from the walls when playing at home.

    I like my Roland Cube 30 on the JC setting with some chorus applied.

    In the 80's I played a Polytone model 102 That had a 12 inch and two 8 inch speakers. Played this amp for a decade with an Ibanez John Scofield (335) type guitar. So sorry I sold it and always thought another would be available. Currently have two Minibrute 1 and a Minibrute III. Yes it's the one trick pony but it's one hell of a trick. Surprised Polytone didn't co-op with another company and keep making these amps.

    My favorite amps are the various types of Quilter heads through Raezers-Edge cabs. I have 3. In my opinion Quilters are closest to tube amps in that they have bite when you dig in, and they allow you to express your dynamics wellm

    I’m a big fan of early 80’s Yamaha G100-112 ii combos.
    Also using a Quilter 101 mini head with a Raezers Edge cab that sounds nice and is very portable

    I recently managed to track down a Sessionette 75 with a retrotone mod, and I've honestly never had a better experience with an amp! Love it to bits.

    Jamie, great video as always. I've used Henriksen and Ploytone amps in the past, but my favorite Jazz Amps are #1. The Fender George Benson Amps. They are Lighter in Weight and Warmer than the Standard Twin Reverb and Deluxe Reverb. #2. Quilter Micropro Mach 2 is in my opinion the closest Tube Amp Tone in a Solid State Amp. #3. I saved my favorite for last. The Rivera Jazz Suprema. Available in 25 or 55 Watts and 10, 12, or 15 Inch Speakers. These Amps also have a great deal of Tone Shaping Capabilities to Compensate for the Room you're in and whether you like a Darker or Lighter Tone. Thanks.

    I use A Princeton Reverb clone made to original specs by Vyse Amps in UK. Barry will make to your requirements, i had additional Mid and Master controls on mine. All hand wired at half the price of a Fender,but a bit heavy for moving around. I also own a Headway Shire King 120w Acoustic amp which does a reasonable job for jazz , but excellent for acoustic guitar styles. Also heavy but sadly no longer in production.

    My amps for Jazz have been a silver face twin and a Peavey Bandit 112S. I bought a Quilter Microblock 45 yesterday but need to find a speaker cabinet for it. That's where I'm confused as to which to get.

    I’ve my eye on a Polytone Taurus mini brute combo. One of my must haves is an amp with a headphone jack and this Polytone has one.

    Jamie- There’s a cadre of players who swear by the Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120. I’ve got a JC-90 (10” speakers instead of 12”) and I like it a lot except for the JC curse: background hiss.

    • @jamieholroydguitar
      @jamieholroydguitar  Рік тому

      I agree about the hiss! Fine for gigs but not so good for practise and home recording

      I have jc22 which I use at home, it does hiss, but when playing hardly notice it. I was struggling to get the sound I wanted out of it, but once started using flatwound strings (11s) it sounded great to my ears. I wish it had a gain option, but might add that with a pedal, as I sometimes like that edge of break up sound.

    I’ve been wondering about buying a Vox MV50 Clean and would be interested in hearing others’ experiences, as I live in the middle of nowhere and can’t easily try one.

    • @user-lh3si8sl8o
      @user-lh3si8sl8o 9 місяців тому

      If you are after a warm smooth sound don't ever go for a new Vox. They are extremely bright and thin sounding. Don't get one. You will be extremely dissapointed and never be able to get the sound you are after for Jazz. I was lured into one by a guy on You tube. I did play it once and now it sits in the garage. It embodies everything I hate in an amp. Go for a Roland Cube. 30 or 40. Bass on 5; Middle on 5; Treble on 2. A tiny bit of reverb. They sound better than my Polytone Mini Brute. No shit.

    I have a question- this guy near me is selling a Polytone MiniBrute II (12" speaker) and a MiniBrute V (15" speaker), both for $350 each. Which would be the better buy for my Tele? I have a Roland Cube 60 Orange but its totally distorted on the clean channel, so I dont know if I should send that to an amp tech instead.

      I’ve never owned a 15” MB but I have owned the other two amps and I preferred the MB over the orange cube which was still quite a nice amp but very heavy!

      +1 on Quilter. I have a Tone Block 202 that I play through a Raezer's Edge NY 8. I think it is pretty versatile. I play an archtop, tele, and nylon string through it and it works great for all. Can be very warm or very bright depending on the guitar.

      @ajpegg2932 Рік тому

      I can also highly recommend Quilter amps for jazz guitar (and for other genres). I use a Quilter 101 Reverb head into a 12" Fane speaker in a Sessionette 75 Combo (with the amp removed). It sounds great with my Eastman AR403, as well as my Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster. The headphone out signal can be sent straight into my audio interface with the speaker disconnected (a Class D amp will not be harmed by doing this) and there is an effects loop and a decent on-board reverb. This is rated at 100 watts, and a 200 watt version is available.

    Thanks Jamie! I really enjoy your review/opinion videos. I actually favour these over lessons, as there are very few channels that cover gear specifically for jazz. Re amp choice, I think providing you have a good ear and good taste (which is obviously subjective), there are many different amps that do the trick.
