Just imagine if they remastered this game, this alone is bone chilling with the explosions, sound effects, and all the death around you. But if it was in today's graphics, I'm sure it would win numerous awards for this mission alone.
This was definitely one of the best games I've played, it's impressive how much they achieved with so little computer resources. Sadly Call Of Duty games haven't been this good anymore, computers allowed them to make much better graphics but it costed them the ingenuity to provide a good experience without depending on looks.
6:44 : "Don't worry about that comissar, I'll take care of him". That part really stroke me. A USSR soldier taking down his own commander... You don't see much more of that nowadays. This was back back when Call of Duty was good... I had about the same experience with Call of Duty 2.
"The man with the rifle shoots. The man without the rifle follows. When the man without the rifle is killed, the one without the rifle picks up the rifle and shoots. The one without the rifle follows the one who has the rifle." It's kinda catchy. Kinda like when Vaas tld the players "Definition of insanity" in Far Cry 3
Funny. When I played, I died like 20 times before I figured out what to do, where to go and realized trying to actually pick up a gun here is impossible.
Wait. They literally, and I mean literally, just moment-to-moment recreated the opening of Enemy at the Gates. The whole "one man gets a rifle" thing is from WWI, by the way, not WWII. If Infinity Ward had done actual historical research, instead of just renting a bunch of Hollywood films over a weekend and going "yeah let's do that", they'd have learned that..
Enemy at the Gates (the film) was based on a non-fiction book about the Battle of Stalingrad. And yes, these kind of stories (fighting with WW1 rifles, not getting ammunition) were pretty common back then. The Soviets were not ready for the German invasion as far as equipment, experience etc. go. They handled it by throwing millions of people "at the problem" until they won.
@@novakattila This is simply wrong and a gross misunderstanding of what actually happened. During Operation Barbarossa, some units due to the complete chaos and dissolution of communication lines, did attack head-on without any planning at all, lacking the right weaponry and often times doing it out of sheer desperation trying to break out of an encirclement, but this was nowhere near the norm. The Soviets never "threw men" at the problem. This was never an official policy and it's a product of Cold War propaganda based on memoirs of Nazi officers who were salty to have been beaten by the Soviets.
I am still wondering what is the rank of that soldier talking at the radio. He seems to have a higher rank since he can smack talk a Major just like that. Maybe another Colonel or a General.
i love accurate the firsts cods where did you hear the sniper wait for them to change there barrels out thats accurate MG42s had to do such most German machine guns actually had to cool down from constant firing or they literally glowed red hot
Move from one object to another at an interval of 5-6 seconds and take cover behind something solid. Don't peek around corners. If you still can't make it, just try to follow the route shown in the video. You should finish the mission in one piece.
AddictionToGaming Here's the weird bit: I can make it to Borodin just fine, but the machine gunners seem to take pleasure in nailing me just inches from the truck. I tried following the route, but it didn't do a thing. I died just the same.
It's a myth, though, "Enemy at the Gates" took a WWI thing and made it WWII for drama, and Infinity Ward just copied over their shoulder without doing any proper research on it..
Play through the game some more. This is the first mission of the Russian campaign, which is after the US and British campaigns. Alternatively, you can go on GameFAQs and find the name of the level and use the console to jump to that mission directly.
Realistically, the Soviets would be speaking Russian, many games make this mistake, probably because the players speak English, they should at least make it realistic and have them speak Russian just put English subtitles
"Dude, your *living* Call of Duty, and it stinks!" well, for the men who fought *there*, it really did stink, an awful lot; for if they pulled back their own officers shot them!
This level only gives you a tiny glimpse of the horrors and the tragedy that was the Eastern Front of WWII. In literary terms, this was a Morally Black vs. Black conflict, where all soldiers and civilians involved were disposable pawns to egomaniacal dictators who had already deliberately murdered millions and didn't care how many more people on their own side would end up dying to take or defend land from the other guy. For Russians, it was especially bleak thanks to the real lack of weapons and ammunition and Stalin's Order No. 227, which authorized officers to kill any soldiers, even those tactically retreating to better positions, from "taking one step back". Stalingrad was a human disaster of titanic proportions and one of the worst sieges in world history.
I'd like to see the facts backing up that statement, if I remember correctly, Hitler an Stalin made a pact, not to invade each other's country. Hitler an Stalin both carved up Poland straight down the middle so to speak. PM Chamberlain came back from meeting with Hitler, telling his ppl, Peace in our time, waving this piece of paper, which Hitler ignored anyway and attacked Poland, thus bringing in the United Kingdom declaration of war against Hitler's Nazi empire Meanwhile, back in the USSR, Stalin was too busy slaughtering his Officer Corps of over 100,000 Officers from Captain and above to worry about Hitler, even when all the Allied intelligence showed Hitler was massing forces on Poland's eastern doorstep, Stalin still believed that Hitler would not attacked because they made a pact together not too. Hitler saw the Communists as sub-human beings, not worthy of dying with a German bullet in them. Even so, Stalin under the cover of Nazi atrocities manage to totally destroy the Polish Officer Corps by machine-gunning 10 at a time into a giant pit in the Kaitlyn gorge, burying the some still alive Officers, and then blaming Hitler when the grave was discovered. Then in 1941, Hitler invaded the USSR in Operation Barberossa, still Stalin could not believe that Hitler was invading and refused to send his armies West to halt the invasion. With this in mind, your comment is up there with the fairies and shows your a complete idiot
It is hard to believe when your mother said you were smart, stupid maybe, but definitely not smart. Here's an idea, go to your local library, ask for a book on WW2 and read the damn thing. Holy crap Batman, WW2 was won by the allies, which included the United Kingdom, the USA, the USSR, Canada, Italy (who changed sides in 1943), China, to name a few It looks to me, your trying to re-write history by writing stupid comments pertaining that the USSR was the sole winner which in fact was one of several countries which over through the Nazi regime
Just imagine if they remastered this game, this alone is bone chilling with the explosions, sound effects, and all the death around you. But if it was in today's graphics, I'm sure it would win numerous awards for this mission alone.
Exactly man!! Exactly! they should remaster games like this instead of crappy infinity warfare
The gun and bomb sounds are annoying, so much. That's why I love it. It feels like real battle going on.
just dont change the weapon SFX. They're way better than what I've seen in today's CoD
This has to be one of my favorite Call Of Duty levels.
Me too
thank you im not alone on that
I don't remember any of the later games having a level this fucking intense.
Powerful stuff. It's a shame that not many more games have made me feel this powerless
i want a remaster of this not a rewrite but a remaster make it able to play on windows 10 and also use everything they did back than
The boat scene is taken directly from the 2001 movie "Enemy at the Gates."
Complete with "one man gets the rifle" myth and "Soviet zerg rush" cliche. Historians everywhere cringe ever so slightly
this has to be one of the best games ever so far
1:46 I like how the soldiers in the boat died before the boat blew up.
This was definitely one of the best games I've played, it's impressive how much they achieved with so little computer resources. Teaches you not to fuck with a sniper. Haha
yeah man , i also like how that radio man didn't care about the commisar's death
Lmao i was so confused when i first played i was like who tf is shooting me and my dad explained to me order 227
enemy at the gates anyone?
yeah..its an awesome movie same as it is
Pretty sure this level was based on the movie (rather than on reality)
This looks like a complete rip off from the movies intro
Adversary on the entrance, the shittiest war movie ever made.
@@absolutelydisgusted8665 ^ The russian army had 1 rifle for every 2 men because the other has a sub machine gun
Being Russian during World War 2 must've sucked
You will be well equipped for the battle ahead my ass
German supply lines thin? Then why are they *this* far into Russia?!?! *Gets shot for questioning Comrade Commissar*
true once you retreat they will kill you.
Not as much as the Nationalist Chinese against the Imperial Japanese and Mao's band of Communists.
Nick N Dud he ever tell you any stories? Would you wanna share them?
One of the few games that ever got the ferocity of an artillery barrage just right.
Stalingrad
September 18, 1942
Pvt. Alexei I. Voronin
Soviet Forces, USSR
Volga River, Stalingrad
Do not worry, comrade. This entire scene is scripted. You will not die.
Not a very communist bit of game design.
Late reply, but you can die in the boat scene if you do not crouch when the plane attacks.
you can die if you do not take care of your ass or if you do something wrong.
Funny. When I played, I died like 20 times before I figured out what to do, where to go and realized trying to actually pick up a gun here is impossible.
M. KARTHIKEYAN I even tried to climb to that building, got a sniper gun and killed at least 20 German soldiers for nothing, they kept respawning lol
This mission will never die
2003!!!!!! I miss you.
3:53 i just saw NPC spawned
I dont understand why they didnt put this mission in the new COD
Eastern front sells bad. No one really likes Russians
Because it's just a 1-to-1 copy of "Enemy at the Gates" and is full of myth and cliche. "One man gets the rifle" was WWI, not WWII.
@@0lionheart I know right, there is a lot more to eastern front then just that movie
4:52 casually destroys a german stuka with a PPSH lmao
Great memories!
Imagine that scene but with BF5 graphics, such a wasted chance
damn i miss the game :'(
This is probably one of the most unique missions.
CoD WWII 2017, Must recreate this campaign!
Wait. They literally, and I mean literally, just moment-to-moment recreated the opening of Enemy at the Gates. The whole "one man gets a rifle" thing is from WWI, by the way, not WWII. @soviet officer What I mean the one that is talking at 4:19
You would never have a colonel or General that close to the front line.
In modern warfare at least ^
i love accurate the firsts cods where did you hear the sniper wait for them to change there barrels out thats accurate MG42s had to do such most German machine guns actually had to cool down from constant firing or they literally glowed red hot
Remember when COD was actually good?
Dude here my game pulls the character in river i dunno why....I think its a bug
The machine gun bit is IMPOSSIBLE for me, even on Greenhorn. Even if I hit the dirt, those damn MG42's murder me. Any advice?

Unless you run too early or too late when Borodin tells you so, I think something might be wrong your game, lol.
AddictionToGaming Maybe, a friend of mine stripped it from his old CD version and gave it to me.
''The man with the rifle shoots!...''
Damn, goosebumps.

ammo? i DONT NEED AMMO I NEED A FUCKING GUN
This is a game i would love remastered
they don't make games like these anymore
Is this the same COD finest hour what, i'm confused 😩 ?
This is why many russians die in stalingrad, they didn't allow tactical retreat for their soldiers
Yeah you'll be well equipped
Commissars were frequently the most cowardly themselves.
Which call of duty game is this? I got the first one but there was just US paratrooper campaign, not even a choice for other one

Historically it's quite a bullshit, bu-ut... Holy hell it manages to look epic and large in scale, especially considering the engine.
Realistically, the Soviets would be speaking Russian, many games make this mistake, probably because the players speak English, they should at least make it realistic and have them speak Russian just put English subtitles
Soviets are part of the Allies. Of course, some of them can English-Russian.
