If you want I can tell you a little bit of the story behind this:
as you know, Oswald hates Mickey, but Mickey wanted to try and get along with Oswald. One day it was the birthday of the rabbit, and nobody congratulated him, until Mickey came to his house, imagine that the person you hate is the only one who congratulated you and brings you a cake saying: "happy birthday big bro". In a fit of rage, Oswald grabbed a bottle and hit Mickey over the head with it, killing him. He never said that he passed the mouse, so Mickey was considered missing (imagine Minnie and the others desperately searching for Mickey). Since then Oswald took the role of Mickey's protagonist, that's why the red instead of blue on his pants. Mickey is now a kind of ghost, which follows Oswald, Mickey believes that there must be at least a bit of goodness in Oswald, so he tells him to tell the truth, which Oswald does not intend to do, his life improved minimally and if he said what he did it would all go to waste.
Facts:
in that world there is no "Wasteland" for forgotten cartoons like in Epic Mickey, so the cartoon that is being forgotten will have heart problems and end up dying. Oswald has that condition, but since he replaced Mickey his condition has improved (he continues to have problems with it) but Ortensia did not have the same luck and the cat ended up dying.
The creator of the Au made it as an alternate ending where Mickey survives, but was traumatized by the assassination attempt on his older brother.
He also made a comic where Minnie ends up finding out what the rabbit did to the mouse, the last image is of Minnie tearfully yelling at Oswald: "WHY DID YOU TAKE HIM AWAY FROM ME!?"

@@OmegaGamer104 I guess that makes sense since oswald was walt disney's first cartoon character until universal studios took the rights of the character because of the contract they both had on. so walt made mickey mouse as a result. not many people know oswald the lucky rabbit anymore.

Oswald did that because he was jealous of Mickey because he always have the spotlight and everybody liked him, so then in one moment both of them started talking to each other and Oswald's jealousy got the head of him so he hit Mickey with a bottle and stabbed him killing him in the act.
