Henry is not only a magnificent horse, but also extremely intelligent. He instinctively knows what ever you do, it is for his benefit. He is 'stream-lined' with his clip, and elegantly and proudly shows it off in the end of this clip...uh, video. :) Gretchen B.
"Cared for animals show a caring farmer", and "Farming is a vocation not a business" words of Enoch, a Cornish farmer, many years ago. you have found your vocation I do believe, thank you for allowing me to "visit" with you...Caring farmers
What a lovely patient horse Henry is! The haircut looks not too bad! And now you have some great material for that lime plaster project, that I just KNOW Tim has planned... :-)
Horse hair was used as reinforcement for things like sealing chimney's and stink pipes as it is water resistant and has a high tensile strength for hair. They would mat the horsehair in the area they were sealing and add a black tar cement. It isn't done as much in modern times but from time to time when you are redoing a old house's roof you will find it.
i thought it was just used for stuffing furniture. i guess our ancestors really did have us beat for making the most of all resources. when i brush my horses i just let th tufts go flying so the wild birds can make nests.
another tip for clipping horses never wear lip balm while you are doing it 8-D I did my horse a blanket clip in winter, though he was in full work and wore blanket. In the Spring he was always last to shed and my trainer always fussed about how his coat would look for the first show in April or early May. He always came through with a fine coat in time
I remember my friend clipping her horse the first time, the same way, and finding out he was patchy underneath!! She had a grey horse (very white) but underneath that fur, was pink and dark grey skin, that a piebald would be proud of :) Still remember our shock, lol
Henry looks pretty happy about it ! We had horses, many years ago. Constant care and attention required! Different breed, clipping was never required. rc
i really enjoy your videos! really do especially the farming and your husbands tinkering videos! a few ideas though.. as a dog groomer i can tell you that when you clip against the hair you are doubling the wear on your clippers and how close your cutting theyre hair. for a surgical clip they use a 20 blade i think? thats a very close clip almost no hair left no insulation there for the animal in winter. so with your 10 blade reversed your cutting henrys hair with a 20 blade right close to the skin.
I have a long haired dog, and I know dogs and horses are much different fur-wise, but if I use a wide toothed comb to lift the fur while blow drying, it goes much faster
we are in the process of starting a similar project to your own in the Scottish Borders. I think your videos are great and a great inspiration. I wanted to ask what collar and harness Your using and where you got them. thanks Billy
Henry is such a good sport! I was wondering if you could do something with the hair, I see some commented on that already, can't wait to see what you come up with :-)
Well I know that the hair from the tail are used for making bow for violins but from Henry's soft front hair I like the idea of making paint brushes for making your beautiful paintings ;-)
I think the hair would actually look really cool if you shaved the front legs too, although that seems like it might negatively affect Henry somehow (I don't know how horses work). I think we would all benefit from more slow-motion footage of Henry though!
You could shave more of them but we only need a bit shaved off because they don't normally get so hot. Horses start sweating on their chests, so that's where we start shaving
+Ben Matthews NO Bonnie! we're STILL ill! And it's still raining and the chocolate supply's running low. Desperate times : - ( Hope you're warm and dry at least?
r w Really? I find nothing wrong with my comment. I am in Ontario Canada. WE don't clip ours. I don't clip my horse and the working horses here don't get clipped. This includes the Clydesdales and Percherons. I suggest you watch what you say.
r w Stupid????wow you are absolutely pathetic and have issues. I DID state I was in Canada. Pretty sad that you are an idiot and didn't even listen to what I said. Wow
GSDmom B No need to be rude in your initial comment. There is a purpose for clipping as explained about. I live in Scotland and my dressage horses are clipped in the winter to allow them to work comfortably. Of course there is also the bonus of being easier to keep clean and looking smart however the only real reason to do it is if your horses is struggling with its work load due to being excessively sweaty along with the preventing of chills.

You know, you could make a children's book: Hairy Henry Gets A Haircut 🐴💇🏽

Love that she cares more about the horse being comfortable than looking good
At the end of the day, who cares how it looks as long as the horse is comfortable. Well done, Sandra!
So good of you to use nice warm water for Henry. People should be kind and considerate to their horses like you are ❤️💗💕💜

+Tony Watson You know I hadn't thought of that, Tony - thanks. I will definitely put it aside for experiment sometime (Tim)
+WayOutWest Blowinblog is that a clydesayl idont know how to spell it but if it is i wont it there my moxt favorti breed of horese

I used to find it all the time in plaster too when I was a builder
i thought it was just used for stuffing furniture. i guess our ancestors really did have us beat for making the most of all resources. when i brush my horses i just let th tufts go flying so the wild birds can make nests.
Emily Pollifax They used horse hair in early 1900 bicycle saddles too. It helped as a cushion with the mechanical springs for a smooth ride.
Must have been a lot of naked horses in years gone by.
@@IrishSchaller it was taken from manes and tails.
Henry is the most docile horse I've ever seen. He didn't even flinch!
another tip for clipping horses
never wear lip balm while you are doing it

LOL!! Thanks for that..
“Henry’s day at the Spa” 😂I could listen to her all day. Great job.

0:17 he has a moustache so cute 🐎
You care so well for your Henry- The horse will respond well to you for that
Just love these videos, especially of dear Henry!
Henry looks pretty happy about it !

My grand father used moose clippings as insulating material at the hunting cabin.
these videos are adorable and informative! very nice
you have Henry looking 100% good 👍
That's one calm horse 😀
This reminds me of using the clippers on my two boys when they were small but they put up a lot more struggle then henry
Poor Henry! I'm glad he doesn't mind the new look. (Bonnie)
pretty horse henry looking well
hes so patient
I have a long haired dog, and I know dogs and horses are much different fur-wise, but if I use a wide toothed comb to lift the fur while blow drying, it goes much faster
We used to clip one of my cobs a bit like this but we'd do his belly too so that it didn't get sweaty & knotted around his girth.
Henry has a sweet curly moustache!!
'He doesn't mind it at all, does he' :) "no, he's so..." LOL glad I stayed until the end XD
Henri's first haircut!

Did you by any chance name Henry after the horse in the Beatles' song, For the Benefit of Mr. Kite? If so, have you taught him to waltz yet?
We leave the hair in the small front yards. Birds fetch it for nesting.
Henry is such a good sport! I was wondering if you could do something with the hair, I see some commented on that already, can't wait to see what you come up with :-)
+Elyse Joseph Any suggestions, Elyse??

Nice haircut Henry is that cut called Mullet
Be careful of sunburn too!
I think your bunnies would like some of that hair!
Can you make paint brushes from the clippings?
+Flannel Acres Good idea!!
Lol

+Child Celebrity He does look good in slomo, doesn't he?!
Your stable looks very, how shall I put it...victorian style in some part of the vid 💕
I hope ur winters aren’t cold
Hahaha.. Henry looks funny 😂
This might seem like a silly question, but why only shave the front? Don't horses sweat all over?
You could shave more of them but we only need a bit shaved off because they don't normally get so hot. Horses start sweating on their chests, so that's where we start shaving
hahaha looks like hes wearing hair shorts at the front
Are there any uses for the horse hair once it is clipped?
traditionally it was used in plaster to help hold it together
I caught your cold! You guys doing better? (Bonnie)
+Ben Matthews NO Bonnie! we're STILL ill! And it's still raining and the chocolate supply's running low. Desperate times : - (
Hope you're warm and dry at least?
+WayOutWest Blowinblog - I'm so sorry. You are going to need an ark soon! {Shall we all send you chocolate?!} Bonnie
Do you have to rug him with that clip?
We rug them in the winter anyway, but not in the summer.
How did they cope in medieval days
+Mike Hunt Shaved it off with a sharp knife, maybe?
What's the breed?
some details in the description..
At 5.28 He doesn't mind it all lol!
What the HECK? That’s the hairiest horse I’ve seen
What are you doing???
Omg i cant bealive it.
Not sure the need for it at all.
I HOPE your not calling me an idiot

Love your voice. You could have a career in voice over acting. you should call a talent scout and take auditions
