A couple things I noticed after watching this video: Both near the end 1: The lines "My voice has yet to hit and make all those thoughts go away" and "To forget that is unforgivable, as long as you dont ever stop thinking of it" Might symbolize an idea that I first learned from Markiplier, of althought it's rough now, you won't get to see what it's like when things are good, unless you keep going on. 2: After the Heart stops the monster, the video cuts to the falling scene from earlier, but this time the characters is gone. However, you can still see a shadow on the wall, possibly meaning that the protagonist found a way to go past it and left his shadow to die without him.
I loved this analysis on "How to Devour Life". It gives me a greater understanding of the song as a whole and the song's inspiration is interesting. I hope you create more videos in the future because this video essay is awesome and very well done.
this was really helpful because I often have trouble deciphering meanings to songs with lots of symbolism, and the language barrier makes it all the more difficult. A few people don't know this, but the boy in Literary Nonsense is named Bun and Inochi's heart form is called Noppo and his shadow is the Headless Dragon (at 4:23 you see the Janitor from Tokyo Ghetto and the light from Tokyo Ghetto at 4:22. I think that's the Tokyo Ghetto boy is in the background at 5:33 but I'm not sure if it's him or not, he has the same haircut) I just wanted to point this out for people who didn't know ´･ᴗ･`

Just thought of this: Didn’t Tobi ask Rei for breakfast only to eat some of the yolk before leaving the rest of it? The yolk’s color also might have resembled the candy in the music video.
I think that tobi is just using his mole ability at around 2:46.A mouth appears on his face, and his hand resembles dragons, just like when he activates his mole ability in the manga.

At 3:50, Hitotsume was also sitting around the other table. His face is the only one that doesn’t have darkness around it but his iconic eye is gone. I wonder if that means anything. Like, say; Hitotsume doesn’t care about Tobi’s suffering at all for unknown reasons so his eyes aren’t revealed to Tobi.
Hitotsume is the hat and eyeball guy, right? (I’m bad at names ;-;) If you look at his fluffy collar at 3:06 or 3:07 you can see that the area near his face is darkened like how the other characters’ face-shadows darken past their face and even onto the background (like the dude with a paper over his face and big horns at 3:05 ). I noticed that in some scenes, tobi's blood is orange like the zingai, so it could be related to the fact that in some scenes in the manga he seems to 'combine with' baku, and he may be becoming a zingai himself
This is my interpretation .... For the phrase bibidibabidibou. After first heard this song and seeing some comments regarding this phrase used as meme and how that hit hard to some people. I thought it maybe not just random word to use for the song . So I searched on UA-cam what that is and find a video with Cinderella on the thumbnail. So I interpret that the word is a magic word used to make something appear. However the thing that is sad about this song is the innocence of the hungry boy thinking that saying that word may make the food appear. ( When it says " reciting it just like a spell " , and it shows on the video how the boy is searching for the food ) and then that phrase "no one taught me how to use a folk" again with the thoughts that he never had enough food to use the folk. It's amazing how the lyrics have more of a straight and abstract ( when emotions comes in ) meaning behind it.
Find me before I eat myself can mean find me before I lose myself Maybe the part where it says sober up also means realize where you are and what path you've taken in life, if you've seen Eve's dark night you know the character there says there's no turning back even from the path of darkness.

I only grasped a small meaning of this song, And came here after watching your video on fight song as i thought that Ryuuko and Tobi were a very cute team, I still prefer How to devour life over Fight Song because i was introduced to it 2 years ago, But i do thank you a lot for this video!
just a few things to add, the monsters (heart form or not) are called zingai (that is the official name for them), also this is just my oppinion, but I think Inochi is trying to find Hitotsume so he can kill him, in the manga, he is exterminating shadows left and right, if you look at the way the Hitotsume treats Bun-chan (the official name for the mc of Literary Nonsense) it doesn't seem like Hitotsume is someone to cling to and doesn't seem at all like how Noppo (the official name of Inochi's zingai) is to Inochi, so it's very possible that Hitotsume itself could be a shadow and he also seems to be very rare judging by the way Inochi reacted when he found out that Rei found Hitotsume already, actually I think he could be at a level of rarity as if he is a myth or legend (like bigfoot or the lockness monster) and he seems to affect everyone that comes in contact with him in some way, so in Inochi's eyes he could be a problem and if he is a shadow it could give him lots of reason to go hunt him down, especially if he is the cause of a big problem that we don't know yet. also the way Inochi reacted when he heard about Rei meeting Hitotsume can be interperated like "why are you able to meet him when I've been hunting shadows all this time?" something like that. anyways that was my mini-theory. I'm sure your aware but there is an Eve discord server called Kara no Kioku, and we talk about lore and stuff there, it's fun.
@@EveExplained there was actualy something I forgot to mention, in the music video the main character from tokyo ghetto is referenced many times, and in most of them we see Inochi interacting with him, (him finding his corpse in the trashcan, and in the scene where you said we was looking into a bag you can actually see someone behind him smoking a cigarette from that I assume its the main character from tokyo ghetto because he's the only Eve character we have seen smoking so far) so it seems like Inochi has some kind of connection with the boy from tokyo ghetto and in the character sheet we see that he tries to smoke but when he does Noppo always stops him, in the manga we see him drinking something which I think is black coffee or something, I assume these are attempts to imitate the boy from tokyo ghetto, Im curious what your thoughts are on this.

(I had to cut a lot of things out so the video made sense! so I cut out the references to other MVs) From watching both HTDL and Tokyo Ghetto the most obvious things to link together is the concept of being eaten where in Tokyo Ghetto MC gets eaten while HTDL MC gets saved by Noppo. They both have cameras dated 2020 which suggests a similar timeframe where is the events are happening. The city itself is similar to both. One theory suggests that the monster that ate the Tokyo Ghetto MC changed into a dragon as he changes forms in Tokyo Ghetto. (Some say the monster changed into the girl because he was also holding an umbrella, I personally see the MV violently shaking his head as the other characters pop up. which could be himself like HTDL where Noppo and the monster are elements of himself). The girl often says stay, the boy from TG says he's scared of letting it go. Could be opening up his thoughts or feelings thinking it will cause him to be consumed and fall into a hole, but actually keeping it in causes the thoughts to amplify and get worse not keep him safe. Tokyo Ghetto has this story of being stuck not being able to move and the city is a lot darker (a reflection of his negative thoughts) HTDL has a more free feeling to it as the MC tries to navigate through it a lot more. He keeps trying and trips over. The part where he is stuck in an elevator is similar to when the girl was looking at the the boy in Tokyo Ghetto wandering around aimlessly in the dark. BUT HTDL MC has an epiphany and manages to figure things out while Tokyo Ghetto MC is still lost. Overall Tokyo Ghetto has a MC that is stuck and can't his way out while HTDL MC tries to figure a way out and maybe this desire to get better is what Noppo is. This eventually lead to his epiphany and how to deal with the monster before getting eaten. Of course these are just theories and some of these ideas are from personal experiences.

I've noticed something watching this video, there are some things that are lost in traslation in spanish, for example in the last part when mc says:Find me before I devour myself, in spanish it says: " Buscame antes de que empiece a comer" or find me before I start to eat. Same is with the fork part when Inochi says that no one taught him how to use a fork, in some spanish translations it says: "como si de usar un tenedor se tratase,sin que nadie me vea" in english would be "as if using a fork while no one is wathcing me" I've noticed this after watching your explaining and I was curious. Also english it's not my first language, i'm sorry for the grammar mistakes.
It's possible, very little is confirmed. The most we got so far is Adam by Eve where the story is someone disappearing in a dream if I recall correctly.

(I had to cut a lot of things out so the video made sense! so I cut out the references to other MVs) From watching both HTDL and Tokyo Ghetto the most obvious things to link together is the concept of being eaten where in Tokyo Ghetto MC gets eaten while HTDL MC gets saved by Noppo. They both have cameras dated 2020 which suggests a similar timeframe where is the events are happening. The city itself is similar to both. One theory suggests that the monster that ate the Tokyo Ghetto MC changed into a dragon as he changes forms in Tokyo Ghetto. (Some say the monster changed into the girl because he was also holding an umbrella, I personally see the MV violently shaking his head as the other characters pop up. which could be himself like HTDL where Noppo and the monster are elements of himself). The girl often says stay, the boy from TG says he's scared of letting it go. Could be opening up his thoughts or feelings thinking it will cause him to be consumed and fall into a hole, but actually keeping it in causes the thoughts to amplify and get worse not keep him safe. Tokyo Ghetto has this story of being stuck not being able to move and the city is a lot darker (a reflection of his negative thoughts) HTDL has a more free feeling to it as the MC tries to navigate through it a lot more. He keeps trying and trips over. The part where he is stuck in an elevator is similar to when the girl was looking at the the boy in Tokyo Ghetto wandering around aimlessly in the dark. BUT HTDL MC has an epiphany and manages to figure things out while Tokyo Ghetto MC is still lost. Overall Tokyo Ghetto has a MC that is stuck and can't his way out while HTDL MC tries to figure a way out and maybe this desire to get better is what Noppo is. This eventually lead to his epiphany and how to deal with the monster before getting eaten.
Of course these are just theories and some of these ideas are from personal experiences.

3:51 in that specific scene something I didn’t really notice was until watching your video is that, that specific scene is actually from the painting of the last supper. Hands guy is sitting where Jesus is depicted in the picture but what’s more interesting is the person with the white hair and bangs is sitting where Judas(the one who betrayed Jesus sat). I’m super interested in seeing if this connects somehow to his future or previous videos

Lost alot of friends to it and including someone I dated that couldn't handle how cold I was after getting on a medication and hearing 2 voices (I know have 6 voices) so we had to end that. Lost 5 friends because people didn't know how to be friends with me and now I'm on the right medication so I guess things are looking better? I'm dating a schizophrenic like me atm so I've been happier lately

I've noticed something watching this video, there are some things that are lost in traslation in spanish, for example in the last part when mc says:Find me before I devour myself, in spanish it says: " Buscame antes de que empiece a comer" or find me before I start to eat.
Same is with the fork part when Inochi says that no one taught him how to use a fork, in some spanish translations it says: "como si de usar un tenedor se tratase,sin que nadie me vea" in english would be "as if using a fork while no one is wathcing me"
