Also there is a small town called Madara with an ancient rock relief named Madara Rider (Madara Horseman)dated between AD 705 and 801.The place you ate at Primo, is having very good kooks, but the waitress did not offer you best food sadly. Also where the monumet and fortress are located is called Shumen Plateau Nature Park spread accros 9,711 acres. There is also a very nice Historical Musium. I hope that info will be helpfull for you. 2-3 years ago we went to Shumen for a week. The monument 1300 years of Bulgaria is HUGE... You just have to see it live to realize its colossal scale! You just can't believe your eyes and the size of this thing when you're there. A man we met then on the stairs said that he was from the city and that 70,000 tons of concrete had been cast in the construction of the monument...
Enjoyed watching this, Shumen is my hometown and every day I would walk through the bus and train stations in order to get home from school so I've had many similar situations with foreigners, always wondered if my directions managed to get them where they wanted to go :) 18 years since I no longer live there, miss it

Justin, another great informative video...! I love your videos...!!!! That train didn't impress me much though, I must say... The reason you hear that sound is of the joints clacking is because the rails are probably 40 feet per joint or so vs. welded rail that they have all over Europe my friend.... That town of Shuman not very nice looking Justin, they don't even cut the grass there... Not sure I'm impressed with some of Bulgaria... BUT your video's are great... Greg G...IN
They are (slowly) upgrading the lines with welded rails. One day the "chachak-chachak" will remain a nostalgic memory. As for Shumen, he somehow managed to avoid the nicer parts, e.g. the city park and the main street. Both the railway station and the market are in the older, poorer parts of town. Unfortunately, rail transport in Bulgaria has been in decay ever since the fall of the Communist regime, due to the much wider availability of personal cars.
36:00 it's worth traveling there if you are interested in history both old capitals are there and this is just a fraction of the interesting places you can visit there. No offense but you just went to the market ate some strawberries and cherries then ordered some meatballs at a resturant and went to the monument by a taxi.
This brings memories. Done that trip so many times when I was a boy! At the bus station across the train station, right where you were, there was a little bookstore/news stand. In 1988 I was there with my mom, and they were selling the UK Morning Star newspaper -- from what I gather a left-wing publication, so it kind of made sense it would be sold there.... kind of. It contained an article about Wimbledon's FA final win over Liverpool, and the subsequent mass mooning by the victorious team. I am yet to see the rest of the video. I hope you took the stairs, LOL. My grandparents' house was just 100m from the bottom of the stairs, and we kids would go up to the monument all the time. 1300 steps, supposedly, to match the 1300 year commemoration of the founding of the First Bulgarian State. Not sure I can make it 1/10th of the way nowadays.

Welcome to my home town Justin! I will not agree with you on the statement that the town of Shumen itself is not worth visiting as there are many interesting places to see. You should have also visited the old town, Shumen fortress, Shumen plateau, Tombul mosque, Madara horse rider, Pliska(first capital of Bulgaria), Preslav(second capital of Bulgaria) and many more! Please get in touch if you’d like some assistance in case you ever decide to come back to our lovely, beautiful town! Cheers.
there aren't many things to do or see in shumen but the monument is great!next time go to belogradchik-small town in poorest part part of Bulgaria with a fairytale fortress and stones like from another world. 🍻
Go to Razgrad and visit Abritus the former capital of the roman province of Moesia and one of the most influential cities during Second Bulgarian Empire, Its nearby If you are still around Varna/Ruse/Shumen
I am from Shumen. I came across this video by chance, and I am pleasantly surprised. I'm sorry, you hit the rainiest day and had lunch in "Primo" - the kingdom of frozen food. I hope you at least liked the monument. Although to me, it is just a monument built by the communists in their style - a huge, too much concrete like a russian bunker. It is a pity that you missed the Old Capital of Bulgaria - Preslav / founded in 893 /, which is 18 km from the city. There is something to see. As well as the "Madara rider" - the only rock relief in Europe from the early Middle Ages. And it is under the auspices of UNESCO. Anyway, I wish you success in your travels, thanks for the shared video.
You should have walked downtown Shumen, after all - in the sun it's quite pleasant. The main street is the only one on three levels in Bulgaria and it's green. Unfortunately, a big chunk was destroyed in the 80s to erect some other brutalist monstrosities. One still sticks there, abandoned.
Man, this is the city I was born and when I saw how incredibly lucky you arrived (no one travel whit trains in Bulgaria, I'm sure you can guess why) with the incredible weather and visited one of the ugliest restaurants (the waitresses lack a little education, otherwise they smile). If one day you decide to come again (I wouldn't) if you are interested in architecture they are certain places which they are trying to preserve. Quite interesting elements from the different epochs, give an architectural reflection of our past. There is a fortress from the 12th century BC (which I think you could see in very few places in the world, which in itself raises questions about Bulgarian civilization with castles, sewers and running water at the time. Тhe most embarrassing question is why people are more interested in the Pyramid of Khufu from 2000 years, but not in fortresses in Bulgaria from 3200 years.) Keep up whit the good work and make your goals. :)

aa man you are so interesting to watch. you remind me of bald and bankrupt. i remember watching his first videos from russia, belarus etc he had similar amount of subs like you now. keep making videos my friend I think you're channel is gonna explode soon. safe
I am from Shumen and I've never expected that someone would visit Shumen hahah. Firstly, the weather was obviously terrible but i can tell you it's quite a relaxing city to explore when it's sunny. You would've appreciated and loved the monument even more if you climbed all of the stairs on a sunny day, walking around the green parts of the place as well without a rush and then going back down as you see all the healthy people going up and down But obviously the weather was horrible. Secondly, I agree that the food is horrible in the city and I really can't think of a place where they cook delicious fresh food that also looks presentable and in an easy location (because there are a few good places but they are ditched in a unaccessable for tourists locations because it is hard to find them if you are not a local and also they do not look presentable at all) I honestly would not recommend coming back just for this because it's mostly this that you can see and it being worthwhile to watch for a youtube audience. Near Shumen there's "Madarski konnik" which is quite famous
I would highly recommend you to visit Plovdiv, next time you are visiting Bulgaria. I think you will like it a lot. It is the 6th oldest city in the world and it was named the European cultural capital for 2019.

Shumen is the town where the capitals of the first bulgarian empire(681-1018)were located -first pliska in the north of shumen and later arround early 900's Preslav in the south....Preslav was build by our first tzar(caesar in slavic or emperor) Simeon the great who used to rule almost all of the balkans....preslav was called the third rome and later second bulgarian empire capital tarnovo(the germans called it ternau, cause there was a frankish neighbourhood in tarnovo)also was called the third rome, cause they were both grand and beautiful cities -simeon built preslav for 30 years(the walls and towers of preslav were 50 feet or 16 meters high) ....the title tzar and the cirilic alphabeth both originates from bulgaria from late 800' after we addoted christianity during the rule of simeon the great father -Boris-Michael,who also gave 2 million lambs to make books for church service and to preserve the alphabeth, also he build one of the biggest catedrals in europe at that time the one in pliska close to shumen ....they are trying to restore it ,cause the remains are very well preserved...you can google it ...write down pliska basilika and you will see it it is worth seeing and visiting.....thank you for the good word you've said about Bulgaria......god be with you

Да правильно... ещё Болгарии помидоры 😍 просто мечта ❤️
My hometown Shumen
Cool monument !
haha i'm the same as u, I can't eat food that's bad. Even if I have already bought it. I love travelling but one thing that really annoys me is the airport food, so often I eat loads beforehand and then fast until I arrive to my destination. Luckily I travel in Europe so this is possible!
I love my food, but as you say it must be quality.
Airport food can sometimes be a problem... I would rather not eat👌👍
Another fine video by Justin. I don't understand why you don't have a million subscribers already especially when Bald and Baldr have basically been on a long Hiatus. You would think their people would be coming over to you. I'm hungry for some Cherries and Strawberries but know they won't be as good looking at those at my corner asian grocer
Thank you mate for the kind compliment.
I can focus on making the beat videos I can and appreciate every new subscriber as if it was the first.
You must Tey the summer produce in Bilgaria!!! Simply amazing👌👍
@@J.E.E We are looking forward to our trip to Varna,,as i think I mentioned i used to work with lots of Bulgarians. I know all about the Sopsky Salat and Rakia tradition. Back in the 90's they would get shippments in the mail of Rakia and of course they were sharing with me. >-)
Nice english weather in Bulgaria :P
Tell me about it mate🙄
Welcome to my home town Justin! I will not agree with you on the statement that the town of Shumen itself is not worth visiting as there are many interesting places to see. You should have also visited the old town, Shumen fortress, Shumen plateau, Tombul mosque, Madara horse rider, Pliska(first capital of Bulgaria), Preslav(second capital of Bulgaria) and many more! Please get in touch if you’d like some assistance in case you ever decide to come back to our lovely, beautiful town! Cheers.
"Can I taste your cherries?" 😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
Next time you come to Bulgaria, Shumen has many interesting destinations close to the city.
Visit the panorama in Pleven
Will check it out👍👌
Oh yeah
Cheers maye
The train and the bathroom looked better than italians local trains 4 sure.
Back at home trains were my preferite transportation for long distances
Something we have in common for sure.
I LOVE travelling but train
there aren't many things to do or see in shumen but the monument is great!next time go to belogradchik-small town in poorest part part of Bulgaria with a fairytale fortress and stones like from another world. 🍻
Oh my gosh! The carriages are probably made in Poland in sixties or seventies, anyway they are designed in the same way.
Could be... I will try and find out
Go to Razgrad and visit Abritus the former capital of the roman province of Moesia and one of the most influential cities during Second Bulgarian Empire, Its nearby If you are still around Varna/Ruse/Shumen
Hi Justin hope you well xx
Hi Natalie,
So nice to hear from you!!!
Working hard on making weekly videos, but I am loving it.
All the best to you and Wayne👌👍
@@J.E.E 😍
Did you forget to buy the strawberries and cherrys?
Shumen as a word means Loud, Noisy in BG. Just as a coinsidence.
Thank you very much for your input! 👍🙂
You missed the cross of light that can be seen between two of the blocks.
Hi. I'm from Shumen😁
I had fun in your city mate👍👌
please visit cities in lom, vidin, montana and belogradchik in north west bulgaria.
Тhe most embarrassing question is why people are more interested in the Pyramid of Khufu from 2000 years, but not in fortresses in Bulgaria from 3200 years.)
Keep up whit the good work and make your goals. :)
THANKS MAN...
You are the very best UA-cam tour guide of Bulgaria. Subscribed and liked 🇮🇪, I am moving from Ireland to live permanently in Bulgaria 2025. James J Walsh in Limerick city Ireland 🇮🇪

Thank you my friend👍🙂
Next time go to Buzludzha Monument!
Hi my friend, Thank you for the idea, i appreciate it!! 👍😃
I am from Shumen and I've never expected that someone would visit Shumen hahah.
Firstly, the weather was obviously terrible but i can tell you it's quite a relaxing city to explore when it's sunny. You would've appreciated and loved the monument even more if you climbed all of the stairs on a sunny day, walking around the green parts of the place as well without a rush and then going back down as you see all the healthy people going up and down
But obviously the weather was horrible.
Secondly, I agree that the food is horrible in the city and I really can't think of a place where they cook delicious fresh food that also looks presentable and in an easy location (because there are a few good places but they are ditched in a unaccessable for tourists locations because it is hard to find them if you are not a local and also they do not look presentable at all)
I honestly would not recommend coming back just for this because it's mostly this that you can see and it being worthwhile to watch for a youtube audience.
Near Shumen there's "Madarski konnik" which is quite famous
I am living in Shumen. You should check Restaurant Tasty (Manastira is it's old name) .
Thank you mate for the tip... Will try it next time👌👍
an English man always walks with an umbrella thank you for yaking us along with you the people their are frindley
Hello mate,
I forgot it that day🙄
Thank you for coming along👌👍
God knows when and how to give you an light 36:19
I would highly recommend you to visit Plovdiv, next time you are visiting Bulgaria. I think you will like it a lot. It is the 6th oldest city in the world and it was named the European cultural capital for 2019.
Next time buy Banica with Bosa, the perfect combination :D
I will keep that in mind… thank you!👍👌
It's a shame you weren't with someone local, they know a path on that hill that leads to an even greater view. Maybe next time. Cheers!
My mom is from Shumen but... How come you didn't go to Veliko Tarnovo? 😎
hey dude what camera are you using?
Sony FDR 3000X AMAZING camera with great stabilisation and internal mic... I don't use any ugly looking mics that intimidate people.
Are you a vlogget too?
by the way, do you consider to visit Belarus?
Absolutely on the list mate👍👌
@@J.E.E it will be awesome!:)
Джъстин, искам да ви кажа че Шумен не е само това. Има много повече отколкото сте показали. От тук започва Цивилизация за която едва ли сте чували
Thank you my friend for your input and feedback👍
@Justin Eastern Europe you went into the wrong restaurant my friend :D Next time you are around please do write me I could get you around in the better establishments and also in the countryside :)
Have a great day!
In Bulgaria transformers exists before the movie come out.
