It would, but it depends on limb diameter and gate length. Smaller diameter limbs would put more stress on the gate and a longer gate also wouldn’t be as ideal, though not as big a problem more than likely. I would not drop a huge load if both of those factors (small diameter and longer gate) were present, but it’s perfectly fine for a climbing line anchor or lowering loads without as much force. With all that said tho you’d be hard pressed to break the steel biner on your lowering line.
